I found another spot in nearby Vail but when we arrived I quickly learned they don't want outsiders in Vail. No parking that we could find. on the way back towards Avon, we found this spot. An old Harley was the only vehicle in the lot. inside there were maybe five other customers. I started to grow concerned but all was erased when the food arrived. My group stopped in for some brunch on Sunday and am so glad we did! The place is designed with a lot TVs, tin signs and is super welcoming. I tried the chicken hash and ate every single bite. Route 6 Cafe is a great sports bar favored by locals. It was recommended to me by a Beaver Creek bus driver as I was looking for a place that was open late and was not fancy. I have been a couple of times and have not been disappointed. I've enjoyed a burger and a philly cheese steak. Both were delicious. This most recent visit I ordered at the bar and sat outside (trivia inside and the weather was glorius). The outdoor seating was pleasant enough and my food was delivered to the table very timely. 20+ year patron of Route 6 Cafe, going back to the prior location at the old gas station further east on 6. Went for lunch today, sat at the bar. Bartender was great and took our order. Not busy, but it was an hour before the kitchen could produce a burger and a sandwich - not for lack of bartender trying to get them moving and issuing many apologies for the continual delays. Actually getting up to surrender and leave when the food finally arrived. Cold, soggy fries (wrong type to boot). Overall very bad food. Poor barkeep ending up comping the meal because he felt so bad about it. Go for a drink, maybe play some pool, or listen to some music. But whatever you do don't go for a meal. Awful. read more

Clean & in a convenient location right off I70 in the Colorado mountains. Friendly staff eager to provide excellent customer service. I had the chicken quesadilla which I had hoped to be more flavorful but was actually a bit bland and uninspiring. I love this place for Sunday brunch, but I will say today was pretty busy. My boyfriend and I got the last open table around 11 and were seated in the corner in the sun (I hate that table). I got a Bloody Mary which was pretty good. He ordered a coffee and it took so long to get cream and sugar we had to ask another waitress for it. By the time we finally got our food it was past 12. Although was my food was delicious (besides the slightly burnt toast), they forgot the onions and cheese on my boyfriend's hash browns. The chicken wings were so crispy and the hot sauce was so tasty - would highly recommend. Stopped here for lunch on a Sunday afternoon around 1. The restaurant was less than half full and the tables that were occupied were finished eating. Our party of 4 Sat on the patio. We ordered pancakes, kids French toast, a ham and cheese omelette and an Asian wrap. The Asian wrap with sweet potato fries was the only decent meal we got. Not great just decent. The sweet potato fries were good. It took more than 30 minutes for our food to come out. When it did come out, the hashbrowns were black and cold. The French toast was half cooked. The omelette had no flavor. We had to ask for condiments including butter for the toast (which was also cold and chewy). No one came to check on us and I had to hunt the waitress down to pay the check. And to add insult to injury they charge you to use your CC. Just skip this disaster and go somewhere else. Came here after a long morning with little sleep from a day assisting filming with NBC, this spot was pretty close by the Vail resorts & my people said they enjoyed it from the other day so we came back for an early lunch. Let's see route 6 diner is a calm spot for sure staff was chill & we were seated quickly, the waitress gave us menus & a few minutes to order I was being so indecisive stuck between 3-4 items I wanted to order lol. The service was good & the place was clean as for food I ended up ordering the breakfast burrito & some French toast I ate everything except half my burrito I took that home & ate the rest after my nap it tasted better then lol (no shade) it was just a strange morning is all, the food portions sizes were good definitely more then enough for one person. This used to be an o.k. place for breakfast. I have no idea how it went so far downhill. I found something floating in my beverage, and they still charged me for it. I was supposed to get hashbrowns, didn't, had to ask for them. They should probably buy a water filter, as the tap water has a very distinct "taste." This was the worst dining experience of my entire life. From the moment I stepped in the door until I left, it was horrible. It took about 30 minutes to be seated even though there was plenty of open room. When the host finally acknowledged our existence, he spoke with a fake Australian accent before continuing to ignore us. When we finally sat down, the waitress completely forgot about us. After 1 hour and still not getting any our coffee, we had to find the waitress ourselves and remind her we ordered food and coffee. That didn't work though and another 20 minutes went bye before complaining a second time. The food tasted mediocre at best and was aesthetically displeasing. I can't stress enough how bad my experience was with this restaurant. The Taco Bell drive through has better service. I would Rather starve than eat there a second time. Stopped here for breakfast and a mimosa on the birthday trip. Atmosphere: super cool cafe/bar feel inside. Like just a good ol boy family ran style place. Really fun ambiance. Route 6 seems like the type of place where locals know to go to for a reliably good meal of comfort food. They also serve several entrees one wouldn't expect from a cafe such as Curries, Picattas and Yorkshire Pudding. I had the Cheeseburger with a side of fried okra and was pleased. At $9 during happy hour it was a great deal, and very filling. There's an adjoining bar to the cafe and it also is very down to earth and has some surprisingly good cocktails on the menu. Stopped in for brunch on Saturday on the most beautiful day. The patio was packed and everyone was enjoying getting out and about. The host was the sweetest man with a BEST accent! He showed us to a table right away! I got the chicken fried chicken plate and it hit the stop. My dad got the bagel with cream cheese and salmon and he devoured it! My hubby got the crab cakes and poached eggs. We had no complaints in our group. It was a quick and fresh brunch! Route 6 Cafe is a casual type establishment, located right off the highway. Yet, you feel like you are located off the beaten path some where. It's a good place to grab a reasonably priced breakfast. It has a cool atmosphere of diner meets dive bar. We ordered the Chicken Fried Steak, Vegetable Omelet, and Two Eggs Scrambled. The food was fine, a bit on the salty side, but everything was cooked made to order. It did take a while to receive our order. We were looking for a family friendly spot. I wasn't sure if they had a kids menu, so I called them. The man who answered was very welcoming and friendly, he even said "Cheers" when we hung up. That sealed the deal. "Kids get in the car, we're heading to Route 6." What a great set up, bright lights and an open dining room looking out onto the front patio. A very fun vibe. The is a very large separate bar area. The third reason why I feel in love with this place, the patrons at the bar were also super friendly. There were well behaved dogs just hanging out, and wagging their happy tails at us. What a fun and inviting establishment! Very spacious, and there was seating inside and out. What about the food, Kimberly?? I had chicken and pasta. The chicken was prepared deliciously, and I appreciated that there was so much lemon incorporated. The pasta serving had a lovely al dente texture and it was just enough to enjoy, but not so much that it felt like gluttony. Perfectly portioned and wonderfully seasoned. My family also enjoyed their food. The whole crew was happy. Our server's name was Hippy Jeff, and he was so nice. Checked on us frequently, and he was engaging with my shy little monkeys. We had a few rough moments earlier in the day. (people letting it be known that they don't care for Californians). It's very laughable and also sad that you've made up your mind about disliking someone you've never met. Colorado is beautiful, I really don't care about a few ignorant hippos, BUT I don't need it to ruin my 6 year olds vacation either. SO, as we were leaving, I told Hippy Jeff that we loved the entire experience. The decor, the patrons, the dogs, the food, and the wonderful service he provided. Good selection of hard ciders and beer. Depending on when you go it can be rockin' or quiet. Love the outdoor patio in the warmer months. The service is quick and efficient, servers are nice and accommodating, and the outside area overlooks lush mountains.
