Solid local sports bar. We came here on a Wednesday evening in fall. We had the buffalo chicken wings as a starter and liked the flavor and the wings were large and cooked well. I had the burger with cheese and thought it was ok, decent but not fantastic. We shared some truffle fries and they were ok. The server was friendly but there were several service glitches. He didn't seem to listen or remember some ordering details. I said we wanted the wings to share as a starter but he delivered it to me, with one small plate along with my main. While driving west on I-70, I saw a highway sign regarding restaurants and lodging. The Southside Benderz sounded interesting. Getting off at the Avon exit it took a bit of navigating. Avon has lots of roundabouts with very little signage. The front didn't look promising until I noticed the great looking well shaded patio. Walking inside, I was greeted by a large bar with comfortable seating. Up a short flight of stairs was another dining area and the kitchen. Unfortunately, they had only 1 server on a Monday afternoon, so the patio was not available. I was served by Monica. Her manager assisted. I sat in the upper room, starting with a draft of Pacifico. Nice big menu with standards you would expect in a burger place. Most of the customers were locals with a few groups of tourists. I ordered the single (6oz) burger with pepperjack cheese, mushrooms, jalapeños and small side of shoestring truffle fries. The burger came with lettuce, tomato and red onion for no additional charge. Very good burger, cooked medium. I asked Monica about their desserts. She recommended the chocolate cake. I got a large slice with fudge between the layers and on top for only $11. I skipped the vanilla ice cream. As I was paying the bill, I noticed an increasing number of servers arriving. Happy Hour is 2-530pm daily. This was my first visit to Southside Benderz. We stopped by on a Wednesday night which happens to be their trivia night. We sat in the upper dining area as the lower section was packed for trivia. The casual atmosphere was great. Lots of families dining around us. We went in winter so we didn't get to enjoy the patio but, from what we would see it looked super cute. We got fried pickle chips to start which came with a nice sauce. The breading on the pickles was quite salty so I was only able to eat a few. I got the greens and grain salad, it was very fresh tasting and the candied pecans added a nice little touch. My husband got the Buffalo wrap. Even though the menu stated the wrap was hot, my husband said it had nice flavor and was not spicy hot. We got a side of tater tots that were cooked to perfection!! "Side" seems relative as the portion was very large but we weren't complaining as they were so good. read more

Located in the same spot as the Boxcar restaurant, Benderz has an updated layout, with a large bar. I ordered an impossible burger with Pepperjack Cheese, lettuce, and tomato (no 2000 island-dressing). The burger was ok. Impossible burgers are good, but the bun left a lot to be desired. I split an order of truffle fries, which were the highlight of the meal, but once again, nothing spectacular. Overall, my experience was ok- I don't have any desire to return again. read more

Southside might be the best happy hour in the valley. They have excellent burgers and cajun waffle fries, but I wasn't a fan of their fish tacos. I'm also a fan of their fried green beans. They have great burger and beer specials for HH and even have NFL Sunday ticket, so you can watch all the NFL games there. I think they also have the NHL equivalent, but I don't really watch hockey. The service is generally pretty good. Everyone has an off day right? The parking can be a little annoying, but there is additional parking on the other side of the building, and you can then walk through the outdoor seating area. It does get pretty busy at times as well. Southside is a staple in Avon and with cheap burgers and beers, it should remain on everyone's list. read more

Very rough start to our experience - we went for happy hour around 4pm hoping to have a few drinks and an early dinner. We waited nearly 30 minutes before we were given a drink, had to ask for menus, were never told exactly what was on the happy hour menu. We were given many excuses for the slow service, mainly due to shift change and that the bartender was trying to catch up before his shift ended. We were driving up to Christy's sports and I saw the $3 man-sized tacos advertisement, which piqued my interest after a long day at Beaver Creek. Walked into the restaurant and was surprised that it ended up being a sports bar, but wasn't disappointed. Looked like they had plenty of beers on tap, a lot of TVs and all the games on. I ordered the tacos mentioned above from the happy hour menu. They only have a carnitas or a ground beef option and the quality is just about what you're paying for them. They're advertised as seemingly large (man-sized, right?) but they're just a bit bigger than a standard street taco. They each had a salsa on them that was very overpowering, just tasted like jalapeño pepper. Probably to cover up the lack of seasoning on the meat. There was also a fish taco option for like a dollar more. Those came out soggy and over battered. Similar to the other tacos, the only flavor came from the topping. I'd come back here to drink beers and watch sports, but I'd probably eat elsewhere. Definitely not eating off the happy hour menu again. read more
