Yes, the hype is real. The best BBQ in CBus. We stopped at the drive thru location for a quick snack and as usual were not disappointed. So happy they have this as one of their dining options. Every one of the locations never misses the mark. I have been a backyard amateur smoker of BBQ for years and totally appreciate all the work that goes into preparing t their food. All the food is amazing and i have never been disappointed with their brisket, pulled pork, chicken, speciality items, or sides. Service is always top notch. Staff is very pleasant and takes time to answer any of your questions. Locations are always clean and what you expect for local BBQ flavor. The drive thru location has smokers on site and makes food right there. It is not trucked in. This location also has a walk-up window and picnic tables to eat outside. Came here on a Saturday to grab a pup cup of brisket for our good boy. Ray rays has no inside dining but it does have about five or six picnic tables. One side of the BBQ hut has walk up ordering... the other side is drive thru. There are three or four parking soots plus one handicapped spot on the side that has walk up ordering. Service is friendly and usually quick. Today a big order came before us so there was an under ten minute wait. Not a problem. The food is definitely worth the wait. Was there yesterday drive thru closed so we had to stand in the cold rain to place our orders. Girl got mine wrong I ordered two sandwiches and she only charged and prepared one. When I asked about the other sandwich I was told I didn't order it and then said "why you looking at me like I did something wrong"?? Was a little aggressive I felt threatened so I left. The brisket here is so good it feels wrong! The pulled pork is always good! I like it with the mustard BBQ or the Carolina, or a mix of both! The ribs are the better than competition style, definitely get those tossed in spicy rub! If you like spicy try the jerk chicken! The food here is excellent; so much so that I'm keeping the bookmark to make sure I come back the next time I'm in the neighborhood.  All the meats I've tried thus far have been deliciously juicy and tender.  One of my favorites from my first visit was the brisket; it's succulent and rich with a taste that's so good it will always leave you hungry for more!  Tip: Portion sizes are all large, especially the sides.  While you might find it tough to save room, if you're a dessert person I recommend both the peach cobbler and the Reese's Pie read more

All that ordered was brisket. 3/4lbs. The drive through worker asked for a tip. Is that crazy? To me it is. It's a drive through, you are doing your job. This used to be good here! The last 3 times I've been, they got my order wrong! Either missing an item or the wrong side was given, etc. When I called back after getting home they told me to just "drive back there"- ugh no thanks. They also asked me to leave a tip- so tired of this at every place- do your job! Place the food in a bag- maybe even get the order right! That deserves a tip?! The prices are sky high & the brisket is so dry! I didn't even see a smoke ring on the meat, yet they have smokers on premises. One day, the man said, "sorry it left a 22% tip (on my $60 take out order) and I can't change it, our credit card system is messed up- well you probably wanted to tip me that anyway, right?" I was in the area and decided to try it out (drive-thru) Service - service was good. They only had one register between two windows but not a big deal. The attendant was great Food Mac and Cheese was your basic Mac and cheese. The noodles tasted a little thicker, which was nice. I am not sure if it was my imagination, but I can tell you it was not soupy and the noodle did not disintegrate. Rayray's Hot Link was a good sausage sandwich. I am not that big on eating barbecue, but every so often I like to give a BBQ place a try. I tried the brisket sandwich which was not bad. They sprinkle a dry rub seasoning which gave the sandwich some flavor, but was a little salty for me. I got the sweet sauce on the side since I was not sure if I would like. The sandwich had a lot of meat, but I could have used more sauce--I was given only one little container, but could have used two to give the meat a little more moistness. The baked beans were piping hot and delicious... I would have liked if meat was warmed, or at least sauce was warm which could have warmed the meat. All in all, everything was okay, but nothing to brag about. I doubt if I would return. read more

The meat was so so so so great! Love it so much! The service was very nice and people there were very friendly. They only do drive through so don't expect here as a dine-in place. There are some parking and some grass if you want to eat in the car but I always take the meat home. It was a good truck a few years ago but now it's a house with easy drive through. I haven't get BBQ in awhile and happened to pass by Ray Ray's Hog Pit. For this location, you can order either drive thru or from the walk up window. They do have couple picnic table on the side for you to enjoy to eat outside. I do like the Baby Back Ribs with the Carolina BBQ sauce. The meat is very tender and charred. As for the Jerk Chicken, it is moist and I love they paired it with the pickled cabbage. read more

This place is really easy to miss, we drove around in the parking lot a little before we found it. You can go to the drive through or go to the walk up window. My parents went to the Clintonville location a couple weeks ago and loved the meat sweat assortment so we gave this location a try. I had the pork sandwich and was impressed by how much meat they gave me. The flavor was decent, would have liked a little more sauce. My parents had the chicken sandwich and both of their chicken was undercooked. My dad didn't finish his sandwich and that never happens! They were pretty disappointed because they absolutely loved the other location. As far as esthetics, I think it's a cute little family place. They have some picnic table you can sit and enjoy the nice weather. read more

I've been coming to Ray Rays for a few years and I would have rated it 4 stars a couple years ago but things have changed. I don't know if it's related to the pandemic but they've also made intentional changes to the menu that I don't care for, the bun changes for the sandwiches was a loser in my perspective. I had a bad order of ribs that were over cooked (dry) and Most recently I ordered a chop sandwich and they served me pulled pork. I would have ordered that if I wanted that. So I'm three strikes and out which stinks because I was set to go to the new location in Granville this week. They have it in themselves to get back to being a Gold star bbq joint. I think they've lost their way or taken their eye off the Westerville location. read more

Is this place weirdly situated in the middle of a random parking lot and difficult to find? Yes. But who cares. Best barbecue in Columbus! On a Friday afternoon my friend and I ordered a few things to share for takeout - the jerk chicken, dry rub baby back ribs, and wagyu beef brisket with sweet barbecue sauce on the side. Everything was fantastic and better than expected. The beef brisket was the absolute star of the show and I ate way more than I should have. It was so tender and juicy. I could have eaten it without any sauce at all because it was so flavorful, but adding the sweet barbecue sauce really took it to another level. When it comes to the baby back ribs, I do wish they had just a little more meat on them, but they were so delicious that I kind of forgot to care. Finally, the jerk chicken was incredible and had the perfect level of spice. One quick tip: I do recommend parking and walking up to the window to order, as this is MUCH quicker than waiting in the drive through line. At this point I don't think I can get barbecue anywhere else in Columbus because I just don't think it'll be up to par. Can't wait to come back to Ray Ray's again! read more

I have had BBQ all over the country. I frequent trips to St. Louis for BBQ, so to say I have a high standard is an understatement. The location is a very tiny shack inside a very busy /odd placed area between home depot and Wendy's. Expect to wait. I am fine waiting for great food, but it seemed a bit over the top. All the time trying not to block entrance to Wendy's while in drive thru. Also with no awning on the drive thru it is very hard to see the card reader. Now for the good! The food is great! The meats were all very tasty with their own signature flavor. The meat that did it for me was the Hot Link Sausage. Very different and very tasty. Ribs were very good as well. read more

I came here today for lunch with my Bella boo and boy was she salivating when we got to the ordering window. The girl must have been able to tell what she wanted as a pup. I ordered my usual baby back ribs with sweet sauce and collard greens. My baby got a free cup of leftover brisket meat. Of course as we left the window it had to be served right away as this pup is very inpatient when it comes to her meats. The gesture to give my dog leftover meat was so sweet. I was going to say no because I wasn't sure if they use it for anything else. My meal was as good as it smelled. Smokin' ribs and those collard greens, all I have to say is yummy. Right consistency of sauce and everything just right on those collard greens to make this girl happy. Thank you Ray Ray's for having this little spot in Maxtown. Not that this place needs anymore reviews but damn it was good. Should be after winning some national recognition. The only thing I didn't like about it is that they turned it into a chain and this Westerville location is only a drive through. Not really an issue but you can definitely say something more special about tasting an actual pit master's art rather than someone following the recipe. Anyways, had to get me the "Meat Sweats" comes with Brisket, Rib, Pulled Pork, Jerk Chicken, Hot Links, Sauces, Pickled Onions with REALLY good pickles. Can't say enough about how much I enjoyed that pickle. Crunchy and tasty the whole time. Ribs were dry rubbed, 4" long rib 1/2" thick 1" wide. Smokey, tender, spices were still fresh like they were just sprinkled on a bit. Just wish it was a little warmer. Some of the ribs didn't have quite as much meat on them, but the bone provides a better flavor. If anything wrong, the spices are a bit more salty than they should be, a little overpowering. Brisket was excellent but not at warm or moist as I like it to be. The Fat had an Amazing Flavor, but the meat not so much. That's when I need to fat to melt into the meat but the meat was just a little dry. Bark on it was a bit more tough than most people would like. But the flavors that were there are fantastic. Pulled Pork was just like I like it, not over pulled, still had some chunks but not Chopped pork. Rub seasoning was mixed in it. Hardly any chunks of pork fat, could be a tiny bit more tender. Jerk Chicken was pretty much chopped jerk chicken and then smothered with a sauce of your choice. All the chicken meat was from the Thigh so it had a lot more flavor and better texture. I could taste the heat from the jerk spices, or at least I thought I was because the weird sauce they put on it might have had all the flavor in it. Mac and Cheese was pretty much a store bought style. Velveeta cheese sauce style. Beans were excellent, bits of brisket in there, beans cooked perfect, More gravy sauce than I would like but the sauce was crazy good, I'd just put that stuff on toast or mashed potatoes. Corn Pudding looked like a corn fritters ripped apart and mashed up a little. And OMG it was Goood! If it had some Honey Butter melted on top or some Cinnamon Butter! HOLY LORD! They had Stout Brownies for dessert that day. Mostly a Fudge topped brownie that a little hard to tell it has anything to do with stout. Very very very dense but delicious. Melt that bad boy up with some butterscotch drizzle and a scoop of Vanilla! Mmmm! Sweet: Glazy, not quite as thick as most places (good thing) a nice zing to it, I really liked it, but not what I would call super authentic. North C. Vinegar: I couldn't put my finger on why but I liked the N.C. better than the sweet sauce. Almost had this strange Holiday inspired fruity zing to it, like a Cherry balsamic kick. read more

I'll post this here since nobody responded when I reached out on Instagram... I'll start by saying that I've been a loyal Ray-Ray's fan for years. I used to frequent the Clintonville location when I lived off Henderson after college. My wife and I bought a house in Westerville and I always rave about your BBQ. She is not the biggest BBQ fan, but to my elation, she finally decided to give Ray-Rays a try today. I picked up a pound of baby back ribs, a brisket sandwich, and a cauliflower burnt ends sandwich and brought it Home. The brisket was 70-30 fat to meat, it was almost inedible. The ribs were over-cooked, and were as tough as beef jerky. The cauliflower was okay, not really my thing, but as I've never had it before, I don't have much to compare it to. I'm extremely disappointed in the quality of food I received from your Westerville location today, and worst of all, now I fear that my wife will never give Ray-Rays another chance. Hopefully this was a one-off and not the norm. Anyway, I just thought someone should hear this from a loyal customer. read more

Finally made it up here. We've been going to Ray Ray's since it was Smackie's, but this one is a haul. I think Sweetie brought some home from here once. Met a friend here, on a perfect summer day. The place is pretty much the old Barbecue Shack, in an odd location in the middle of a parking lot. Walk up or drive through. A few spots near the building, otherwise, park in the big lots. They've replaced the picnic tables, thankfully. My friend got the Meat Sweats box and loved every bit of it. I had just had breakfast so stuck with a brisket sandwich and some corn pudding. Both were excellent, as at the other locations. Massive amounts of tender, flavorful meat, but still easy to handle on their good bread (Audino's was delivering as we ate.) Drinks are rather limited, with Boylan's and a few other things. Massive amounts of sweet tea would be the ideal accompaniment, but they focus on the food, and do an amazing job. Prices are appropriate for the quantity and quality. Get to Ray Ray's, somehow, somewhere. read more

Good food, slow service, outdoor seating, broken tables. The food is really good here, so I'll give them a pass on the broken picnic benches that are made for little kids. This place is literally in the middle of a parking lot. There is no place to go inside. You just walk up to the window and place your order. After your food arrives you find a seat at a picnic bench in the area beside the building. Watch out for cars as you walk across the parking lot. When we arrived we were the only ones at the window. However it took the lady forever to acknowledge me. I could see she was working on a carry out order but she didn't say a word until she was done and it took quite awhile to complete the order she was working on. Order: Spare ribs, 3 bones with sweet sauce $6 Mac n cheese $4 Beef brisket sandwich w a side of sweet sauce $9 The food is delicious! I love the sweet sauce on the ribs. The ribs were tender and had lots of meat on the bones. The Mac n cheese was ok. It was made with penne noodles and not very creamy. The brisket sandwich was a pretty large sandwich with a good amount of meat on it. Next time I will call ahead and use the drive thru. I keep coming back for disappointment. There are good things to say, but the end result is always the same. I wish I had picked someplace else. The final straw for me today - the reason I probably won't go back - is that they just couldn't be bothered to trim the silver skin from my ribs. I don't quite know why this happens. I had a similar experience at Rendevous in Memphis and they are world renowned. At least there the sides and sauces were in the right place. Ray Ray's sauces are lackluster, downright forgettable, and the sides are just ok. It's a shame. I want to love them and I just can't. Good BBQ. Outdoor seating is low to the ground and most of the tables are broken. We got a sandwich, some ribs, and Mac and cheese. The sandwich is a very large portion. The Mac and cheese is made with penne pasta, which is unusual but hearty. The Smokey flavor of the meat is really the star. The sweet sauce is good but I have had better sauces elsewhere. It was difficult to find a table that didn't appear to be a hazard to our toddler. We settled for one where the broken parts were near the umbrella so she was unlikely to reach it. So I first tried Ray Ray's by accident. I went to an event with some friends from out of town. We thought it was public, but was a private work event and Ray Ray's was catering it. So once we realized, we snuck some food and got out without anyone noticing us. The food was amazing, but I wanted to taste it for myself and not by crashing a party. I went through the drive thru. Which is not the most convenient when it's busy. But it goes pretty quickly. I got the ribs, cole slaw and beans. The ribs were falling off the bone. Probably some of the best I've had. I didn't care for the slaw. I prefer the creamy, sweet version of slaw and it was more vinegar based. I prefer their meats and sauce over the sides. read more
