This is for the Clintonville Ohio location. This is a very small spec with only two , 2 top tables. It is ment to be a pick up and or delivery location. Decor is very nice for the small space. Decent ambiance given their restrictions. Ordering was straight forward and efficient. I ordered two 2 piece Chicken Dinners with two sides. The sides were Geeche Rice , Greens and Hush Puppies. All the side were excellent. The Chicken was outstanding. Perfect crunch. Perfect Doneness. Just the right spice to not distract from the flavor of the chicken. Now just an FYI The chicken is not really spicy. Not a bad thing since the Rice , Greens and Hush Puppies supply the spices. Interesting take on the dinner. They also have Catfish . Can't wait to try both the regular and the Blackened Version. Haven't had really good Catfish since we lived in East Texas and stopped on a Fish Camp restaurant on a Bayou in Louisiana before Shreveport. One of my favorite places to eat in Columbus! If that you love southern food, you'll love this spot. It's tucked into Budd dairy food, hall, so tons of drinks and seat seating options throughout the restaurant. If they're crowded, it can be a little bit of a wait, but I've never waited more than 30 minutes, and it's well worth it. For food, you have to get the blackened catfish. It is so yummy. Their mac & cheese is delicious, their cornbread is cooked perfectly and melts in your mouth, and the french fries were good. Really you can't go wrong with any of these sides; it's a lot of southern staples. If I could, I'd order one of everything in terms of sides. Definitely will be back! read more

This was great food! The chicken was super juicy and nicely fried crispy (it could use a touch more seasoning, but it was fine). The mac and cheese was creamy, and while the coleslaw wasn't quite for me, it was still very well made and had good flavor. Service was friendly - they're busy, so things took a minute, but everyone did their best to stay on top of orders. I'd recommend ordering online if you can, that will speed things up especially for takeout. Delicious meal! Authentic soul food flavor. My first trip to Bud Dairy Hall and Modern Southern Table was well worth the trip. Even my 90+ year old mom loved it all and rated it A++. The only downside is limited parking and the building itself is not very accessible so it took some doing to find a side entrance that my mom could handle. There are steep stairs at front entrance and a lift but you have to call to get someone to operate the lift. Anyway the folks at MST are pros. The order was ready in about 20 minutes. I ordered via DoorDash. The food didn't take long at all. Chicken was perfectly fried, just needed a tad more seasoning. Mac and cheese tasted like home but I think needed a little salt. The greens were perfectly seasoned, but a little salty so it tasted perfect with the Mac. Yams were pretty good and not overly sweet. The blackened fish was perfection. I do wish it came with some type of sauce though. Corn bread tasted like quality. I usually like a sweeter cornbread, but this was good not dry and perfectly baked. 1st time at Budd dairy and this was the greatest place. So many friendly faces. Except for here at Modern Southern. The food was good , but it was early 2pm and they were already out of Gumbo, and blackened fish as well as dessert. A tall worker was rude to some people who were waiting around for thier food and told them they would call them. I leaned on the counter while waiting for my sides ( I didn't get a main dish because I wanted the gumbo) and was told to step away and not lean on the counter. A nice treat on a coll summer day Gumbo was perfectly seasoned and a heart portion. Made with a combination of chicken and sausage okra served over white or yellow rice.the orange rough dinner comes with 2 sides of your choice. We opted for greens and okra. The greens have a pinch of sugar in them. I don't mind but my husband hates sweet greens he likes them spicy. The fried okra is just ok. They are not anything special could use a little more seasoning and less breading. As for the bar they are efficient friendly and have a wide variety. The pomegranate theory came with a buzz ball. I never had one of those before but 8t definitely opens your pallet . It is a special peppercorn flower that reacts differently to various people and can cause a numbing sensation. Located within Budd Dairy food hall, this place delivers some absolutely delicious food. This is probably our 5th or 6th time eating at Budd and each time except one we are pulled back to Modern Southern. The food hall is always busy as is Modern Southern but their service has been very good each time. It's a great atmosphere to get a nice drink, eat some wonderful food and have casual meal with friends and/or family. My wife loves the fried chicken, Jojo fries and the Mac and cheese. For me the gumbo is top notch as are the crispy hush puppies. This has become our go too whenever we are in the area. read more

Shoutout to social media for the recommendation because when I landed in Ohio, Budd Dairy Food Hall was my first stop so I could stop by Modern Southern Table and get me some fried catfish. They did not disappoint! Everything made to order so after placing we had about a 15 min wait but it was worth it. Each dinner plate came with 2 sides and the choice of white bread or cornbread. Catfish friend to perfection, hush puppies the perfect blend of salty and sweet, and the black eyed pea salad was crisp and refreshing. The sauce that came with the catfish was so good we were dunking the fried chicken and hush puppies in it as well lol. I definitely had to finish off with the red kool aid which was sweeter than sweet a.k.a made the right way. I went to bed with a full belly! If I had time to return I would've. The whole experience give high school cafeteria or mall food court, which isn't a bad thi g but we went on a Saturday about 5v& it was already pretty crowded. We lucked up to catch a table opening. You order then wait on them to text you your food is ready. MST was just OK. I got two piece chicken with greens, macaroni and cheese & cornbread with the red Kool aid punch. There's a nice menu full of fried chicken, fried or blackened fish, and a whole slate of classic Southern sides, from candied yams to mac 'n cheese, plus hush puppies. Simple and delicious! I ordered the 2 piece meal with a side of Cole slaw. I almost always opt for white meat, but I wanted to switch things up and chose dark meat. Checked this place out for my birthday. The food looked really good in pics and I wanted to support a black business. The customer service was okay and the food was ready pretty quickly. I ordered the fried whiting with greens and Jo Jo fries aka wedges. I also got a Southern grape Koolaid to drink. The fish was just okay, I didn't realize until my second piece that it had bones in it. They leave the skin on, which turned my mom off, but I didn't mind. The seasoning just isn't what I expected, sort of bland in my opinion. The collard greens were the standout, they were packed full of flavor. Probably the best collards I have ever had, sorry Maw Maw! The Jo Jo fries were also, just okay. They give you some sort of sauce and I wasn't sure if it was meant for the fish or the fries but it was a nice compliment to both. My family and I finally got around to checking this place out today and I must say, I was underwhelmed. Let's talk about the pros: Chicken: was perfect. It was well seasoned, crunchy without being overcooked, and the pieces were all a good size. Timing: Upon ordering the estimated time was 40-50 min, but I got the alert saying it was ready in about 20 min. I'll gladly take half the expected time! Portions: I do think the sides and overall amount of food I received for a $15 was very reasonable and I had leftovers. Now for the cons. All the sides, quite frankly. The collars greens were way too salty. Another review mentioned that so I think that's the norm. The cornbread was overly dry. The rice was undercooked, and while the Mac n cheese wasn't bad, it was salty as well. I don't know if I will be back again, but if I do it'll be for the chicken basket only. Very rarely is a place worth all the hype but from the first bite I was sold. The fried catfish is fried to perfection. After a while it can feel like it's salty but tastebuds are different and I'm aware I'm a tad sodium averse. Even so, I loved it. The greens were the star of the show for me with a nice little kick to them as well. The Mac and cheese wasn't my favorite but by no means was it bad. The customer service was great and I can't wait to bring my father. This place is in Budd Dairy Food Hall. It was fantastic southern faire. Pricing wasn't too bad and the food hall it was located in had a nice rooftop section with a bar. Service was very quick and they texted us when our food was ready which gave us time to look around the space and it's open seating. I didn't see any "gluey" texture in it, just light orange look and lots of salt. The cornbread was sweet and moist. Sweet potatoes good. Greens? Well I think most of us are pretty particular about greens but it's flavors went well with the rest of the meal. The coleslaw? Like KFC. That's not that good to me as I don't like it chopped and prefer some color in it. Green and orange (carrot) preferably. Still, the place is worth stopping by again. Some local "influencer" ranted and raved about the Low Country dry rub on their wings which is a $1 more upcharge so I tried it and juxtaposed them against their regular "Alabama" fried wings. Albeit good with that "Low Country," that's earthy and smoky tasting flavored, their Alabama original tastes MUCH BETTER. It tastes better because it's well seasoned and flavorful on its own, a dry rub or enhanced flavoring isn't necessary. Hot sauce isn't necessary either as everything for the most part are FLAVORFUL. Their sides are very good, especially the mac and cheese and geechee red rice but the cornbread is MISERABLE. Everything here is a homerun but they need to collectively go to the drawing board and redo their cornbread recipe. It's sandpaper dry and tasteless. I kinda wished they cut corners, got lazy, and just used JIFFY cornbread mix out the box because their scratch recipe ain't it coach! Nevertheless EVERYTHING ELSE outshines their cornbread. They also had hella business and a steady flow of customers that superseded other food hall restaurants. They've got a good thing going there and have the market for soul food in that geographical diameter on lock. The only other places are Crispy Coop way in Grandview if they're even in existence anymore and Royals in the hood way east on 5th IN THE HOOD but ya might get your brains blown out trying to get a wing dinner fried in the same grease as their fish and everything else that's sprinkled with that white powder "crack" seasoning. Unlike Royals that I just mentioned, Modern Southern Table is in a safe, clean location. Hopefully they understand they've got a good niche operation going and don't start over expanding where overall quality suffers like the damn near defunct MELT, Hot Chicken Takeover, etc. Out of all the places to dine in Budds to me this place is #1 but please please please FIX THE CORNBREAD! 4 stars that would've been a 5 if it wasn't for that cornbread. read more

Having grown up in a traditional Southern family, it's delightful to find this style of food available at a local restaurant in the frozen North. I like to browse around at the Budd Dairy Food Hall, and this evening will be no exception. However, I selected two side dishes from the wonderful menu at Modern Southern Table to try out - I posted pictures of those two items: Southern Mac & Cheese, and Collard Greens with Smoked Turkey. To wash it all down with they offer an excellent Southern Kool-Aid Punch (sweetened just as I remember as a kid... a lot). The Kool-Aid Punch come in two flavors: "Red" and "Purple." If you don't understand the colors are flavors philosophy of Kool-Aid, you'll need to do a little independent research. This is quite a sweet, so be forewarned! I also had a look at the ( Southern) Alabama Fried Chicken and it looked incredible! They also have a Low Country Chicken, which is essentially their fried chicken basted in BBQ Spices - didn't see it but if it looks or smells anything like this Alabama Chicken I'll bet it's really tasty! You know what? I'm not browsing tonight - I'm going back for the chicken... ya'll! So I went back and picked up two pieces of the Alabama Fried Chicken & a side of Candied Yams - it smelled so good I devoured half of it before remembering to take a photo for Yelp, LOL! I probably shouldn't admit it, but I eat this every other week. The catfish (5/5) is so good and so are the greens (5/5). The cornbread is also good (4/5). The mac & cheese (2/5) is a hit and miss to me personally: sometimes it's good and other times, it's ok. Overall, I rate this meal a solid 3.75 out of 5. Oh, and the Kool-Aid... the best! There was a delay in getting to order due to employees being out on break during dinner rush which was sort of weird but oh well. My friend and I both went with chicken dinners, we did the Alabama chicken because the spicy was sold out. The Mac is solid soul food Mac, elbow macaroni with good flavor. The candied yams have a different zing to them, I believe there's some allspice in there which my friend loved but I admit didn't do it for me. The cornbread was a nice addition and had some sweetness to it. The red cool aid I thought would be cherry but was actually like a fruit punch.
