Decided to check out Big Mali's in Linden today. I ordered the 3 bones spare ribs, baked beans, yams, collard greens and macaroni and cheese. The 3 bones were nice and tender with a sweet sauce on them. Good stuff. The yams were well cooked and not too sweet. The baked beans were cooked with ground beef and I believe maybe cinnamon in it. Now on to the stars of the meal. The greens were cooked perfectly and had the slightest of bite to them. Yummmy!!! Then there was the Macaroni and cheese. OMG!!!! Baked perfectly with a creamy cheese. Should have ordered several of the big containers of this. It was so off the chart. Will definitely have to go back for the fish next time.

A friend and stopped in and ordered take out from here a couple of weeks ago. Good customer service. We both got fish dinners 1 perch, 1 whiting. We both had macaroni and one tried greens and the other green beans and we shared a side of yams. Everything was really delicious. Fish was a bit salty for my taste, but fried to perfection. They did forget our bread and some condiments but other than that, no complaints. I look forward to going back.

We had been looking forward to trying this place but missed closing time previously. This time we made it 20 minutes before closing but Big Mal, and 3-man backup, could not have been nicer or more accommodating...did not rush us out after 7:00 so we could enjoy all the fresh food while it was hot! We had the whiting and wings, both fried, baked beans, coleslaw, mac & cheese, and green beans. Delicious! The baked beans were sweet, the mac & cheese was seasoned well and not too cheesey, the coleslaw was just the kind my husband likes and the green beans were not mushy! Friends, expect us to invite you to join us for future visits. PS. At 6:30pm on Saturday evening they did report to be out of beef ribs but plenty of other choices at this very casual restaurant.

Heyyyy Big Mal's we wish y'all the best from TN

This was one of the REAL soul food places that remind us of the good old Southern Soul food homes and restaurants growing up. So refreshing to have dined there with friendly prompt service and definitely recommend and returning and seeing Big Mal and lovely wife.

The atmosphere was modern with a southern twist. I'm not going to lie, I chuckled a bit when I noticed my water glass said "Bless Your Heart". In Appalachian culture, this is actually an insult. We had a large group, but the service was excellent. Very friendly, attentive, and everything was brought out timely and correctly. My food was really good! It was brunch time so I had coffee, the "Mimosa of the Moment" which was an apple cinnamon, a biscuit with blueberry preserves, and the Southern Shakshouka. All were fantastic and I would definitely get again. I also thought the price was affordable for the quantity.

My server was great. The place is really lovely and I like there is now a parking garage just steps away. I started with a specialty sip cocktail - an Orange Cinnamon Bun Old Fashioned, and ordered 3 apps since they were half-priced for happy hour. The Biscuits for a Cause (2 with butter, jam and honey), Fried Pickles (chips with ranch), and Famous Fried Green Tomatoes (I don't normally like goat cheese, but these are served with stone-ground goat cheese grits) were all fabulous and I had plenty to take home after trying all. I had a glass of red blend wine with my entree, which was the Pan-Seared Salmon. My two chosen sides were the mashed potatoes and fried okra. The salmon was perfectly cooked; it was a great dish. I also got the Rosemary & Parmesan Breakfast Potatoes to go to have with my breakfast this morning. The service, food and atmosphere were all very enjoyable. The manager also helped out bringing food, and checking on me. I would return for another meal.

Love this place!…read more Came in here last weekend and sat outside for a warm spring evening. We did make a reservation somewhat last second, but were easily able to get an outdoor table. We actually got to the restaurant a little bit early and they ended up seating us outside, which was perfect. For food, I had the fried chicken sandwich with french fries and mac & cheese. My girlfriend had the chicken sandwich as well, so we each got a different side. The chicken was perfectly cooked without being overly greasy or oily. The french fries were delicious, and the macaroni and cheese was heavenly. Our server was very friendly and intensive to our needs. I felt like our food came out very quickly. Overall great time here and can't wait to come back. Love going to this place in Cincinnati as well, so I was very happy when they opened one up in Columbus.

Everything tasted fresh and balanced, the chicken was seasoned well, and the mix of greens, corn, tomatoes, and that dressing all came together really nicely. It was one of those salads that actually feels like a full meal, not just something you grab on the side. The inside was quiet I went in just as they opened I believe. Service-wise, it was just alright. My server wasn't bad, but they were in the middle of a team meeting, so I was kind of left on an island for a bit waiting on things. It wasn't enough to ruin the experience, though. Overall the food carried everything and I'd still call it a good visit.

Turn in at the light, and be careful about which driveway you pick- I think it's the second driveway, near a daycare, and it winds around back to the restaurant. You can see the place from James. Pretty busy at lunchtime, a few dine in and some carryout. Served cafeteria style, so you can see what you want, and drool over it. Well, there's a clear shield, but you know what I mean. I got smothered pork chops, since I hadn't had them forever. Meaty, tender, covered in gravy and onions. So so good, especially as comfort food on a cold day. You can also get them fried. Plenty of other things on the menu looked good. And all of the sides sounded good. I ended up getting one that was a mix of cabbage and greens, instead of getting the two separately, so that gave me space for another side. I went with mac & cheese. Sweetie's mom's mac is the best in the world. I'm not kidding. This is not quite that good, but is a very good homemade version, loaded with cheese, and baked in a big pan. Service was excellent. Prices are a bit steep, but good for the quantity and quality. Canned pop. Cheap plasticware. I was leery, but the pork chops were so tender that even a plastic knife pulled them apart easily. Hardly needed it. The place is not fancy inside. Old, but clean, a few booths and tables. You're there for the food, not the decor. Or, come in and pick it up and take it home. And have better silverware... I will definitely be back. I loved what I got, and was enticed by some of the other things.

The waiter said it was very subtle, so I had to try it. It was nicely prepared and tasted like an Old Fashioned. We had the Brussels Sprouts and charred Octopus for appetizers. The Sprouts were outstanding. Never had them prepared with blue cheese, apricots or toasted corn nuts. The Octopus and smoked sausage was also good, but I wouldn't order it again. For dinner we both wanted the chicken, which I have a rule against, so my daughter got that and I got the beef tips. The chicken was outstanding! The beef tips were good, but not great.
