Been meaning to come here for a long time. Finally had a chance today. It's tucked in an alley off 3rd, doesn't look like much from the outside, but is beautiful and comfy inside. Service was great the whole time. There's a lot on the menu I wanted to try, but I saw smothered pork chops. I've liked them since I first had them, so whenever I see them on the menu, I usually get them. You can get them as a bowl, but I got the dinner. Two bone-in chops, tender and juicy and breaded with a little seasoning. Covered with a gravy/sauce that adds more flavor. And over top of tender short grain rice. I got baked beans as one of my sides, and they were soupy, but savory, and very tasty. I also got fried okra, which was a large portion of perfectly fried chunks. Also nicely seasoned. They do give you ketchup and vinegar, and hot sauce, and I tried those on the okra. But it was plenty good on its own. I came in hungry and left stuffed. They offered dessert, but I didn't even look at the menu because I knew I had no room. Parking is absolutely awful. Not their fault, of course. There are a couple of spots in the alley, but they are 30 minute only zones. Enough for pickup, but I didn't think it would be enough for dine in, and it wasn't, though my food did come up pretty quickly. Other parking is nearby but some of it is time limited or somewhat expensive. Limited street spots and a parking garage or two. You are right downtown, so you're going to pay. Warning: Long review I was in Columbus for a conference. I'm a foodie and always searching for a REAL soul food restaurant when I travel. So I decided to try Soul 2 Go based on the reviews. First off, the street that it's located on reminded me of New Orleans (my favorite place) so the experience was off to a great start. I picked up my food from an unfriendly young lady, perhaps having a bad night. When I got back to my hotel with my jerk chicken dinner, I tasted it and IMMEDIATELY started texting everyone about the flavors. First time I had seen any restaurant add diced onions AND tomatoes on top. The cornbread was the perfect texture and sweetness. The next night I order from a Korean place. Not impressed so my last night, I went back to Soul 2 Go. My staff told me to get the perch or the salmon pasta but the lemon pepper chicken was calling my name. This night I was greeted by a beautiful and friendly woman with beautiful braids. She even said thank you for coming, unlike the other young lady who just said sign your receipt and walked away. This dinner was just as flavorful as the other. This time I added yams and fried okra. The yams were good, but a little too much cinnamon for my liking. The okra was not frozen, to my surprise. I grow okra in my garden every year so I could tell this was fresh! I live in Central KY but have already made plans to make the drive to visit Soul 2 Go again. Side note: It's a huge dinner! First time in Columbus to participate in the Cap City Half Marathon brought me to the Renaissance Downtown hotel. After checking in to the hotel, myself and a few other ladies were famished and looking for good food. I opened the Yelp app and Soul 2 Go was at the top of the lunch nearby search. Even better, it was literally located across the street from the hotel a few feet down this alley type side street. We arrived at a great time because about 20 minutes after being seated, a crowd of people were filing in so we would have had a wait. I ordered the Soul Food Sampler which consisted of small but perfectly sized portions of Mac and cheese, sweet potatoes, collard greens, and 3 chicken wings pieces. I washed it down with a yummy cocktail. I do not remember the name and I did not take a picture of the drink menu but it's one of their fun named cocktails. We didn't feel rushed to exit the table once we finished our food but we were mindful of people waiting for a seat. Apparently word got out about this restaurant to other runners because the next day we attempted to go back for dinner and there was a crowd of people with an estimated wait of an hour and a half to an hour and 45 minutes. Chicken was good, unbearable but good fry/ breading. * Hot sauce bottles didn't work, had to take the cap off. * Hostess was super sweet, called to hold seats on my way from Dublin and she was able to accommodate me and remembered me when I came in. My husband and I tried this restaurant for the first time on a Friday at 3 pm. The hosts were very friendly and sat us immediately. Our servers name was Britney. The restaurant has a very nice set up and cool art and music and was perfectly clean inside. I had the jerk chicken pasta, red beans and rice, mac and cheese, and cornbread. I was very very happy w this meal. It's literally the best jerk chicken I've had since I've been up north. My husband had the fried fish and he said it was the best he's ever had. They asked if I was there for the first time and a patron leaving said that I would not be disappointed. I was greeted immediately by one of the owners. I received water right away. Took a little while to receive a menu. Roughly 10 minutes. However a superstar of the place, Brittany came through with explanations and recommendations. The did not have a cocktail menu but She told me by memory. I decided on a Soul Sister, something like a Tequila Sunrise which included Don and Grand Manier. I knew it was trouble. String. Delicious. I packed my patience for the order taking and receiving the food. The Blackened Salmon Pasta and Fried Cornbread was worth the wait. Large portions were seasoned to perfect. Long travel day, reached hotel and quick local search uncovered Soul 2 Go. Quick check of the menu (which looked amazing) and off for a short walk to meet our conference travel team for dinner. We got in about 40 minutes before closing on a Tuesday evening, in that spot where you never know if staff is present or checked out looking to get home already. To our benefit the team was friendly and hospitable, we were quickly seated and food was everything we were looking for! There used to be a jerk chicken spot in my neighborhood, though it closed and now when an opportunity presents itself am all in. Jerk chicken, mac and cheese, greens were all exceptional and the ladies traveling with me meals as well. We did start with the cornbread and chicken tender which was really good. The vibe in the restaurant was chill yet upbeat, and really, just a great way to finish a long day of travel with a great meal before a conference. They had a dj with line dancing and a cowboy hat competition - a lot for the small space. The food was decent, I ordered catfish w/ green beans and sweet potatoes as sides. The menu stated the greens came with onion and tomatoes on them, thus me ordering green beans - well they had the same onions and tomatoes on them also. I've been ordering from Soul to Go for my parents at least twice a week for quite some time now. We've supported this business consistently because we value good food and community establishments. Unfortunately, the service has been declining for a while -- but this last experience was by far the worst. The food was severely burnt and completely unacceptable. It wasn't slightly overdone -- it was inedible. When you're serving customers, especially loyal ones who order regularly, there has to be a standard of care and quality control. I rarely write restaurant reviews, but after my recent experience at Soul 2 Go, I feel compelled to share one. After arriving in Columbus for work, I checked the restaurant's reviews, which were overwhelmingly positive, and decided to stop in for lunch. I should note that I've traveled extensively for more than 30 years and have eaten at well over a thousand restaurants around the world. With that context, I can honestly say this was among the most disappointing meals I've ever been served. I ordered the chicken bowl. The chicken was stale, tough, and oddly coated in an overly sweet, syrup-like sauce, served with only a few spoonfuls of rice. The side of greens was shockingly salty to the point of being nearly inedible. The quality of the food was so dramatically inconsistent with the glowing reviews that it genuinely left me confused. It's difficult to understand how any kitchen would knowingly send out food prepared at that level. To be fair, the waitress was kind, attentive, and professional. The restaurant itself also appeared clean and had a welcoming atmosphere. Unfortunately, none of that could overcome the food experience. What made the situation more notable is that a colleague visited shortly after I did and had a very similar reaction. We both left feeling misled by the reviews and wondering whether the restaurant was simply having a particularly bad day. Columbus has many excellent dining options, which makes this experience even more unfortunate. I don't enjoy leaving negative reviews, but in this case I think it's fair to offer a word of caution to others considering dining there. read more

For starters I had the party wings and fries and the fries was really good while the wings were bland to me. I also had drink here (can't remember the name) that comes with tequila and it was also good but it cost $15 and wasn't worth that price point. Now for my meal I had the blackened chicken Alfredo and that was indeed the star of the show. So great so delicious easily the best food item I had while in Columbus. Its definitely black owned and operated and I was glad about that. The music volume was just right. I don't like going to places and the music is so loud you can't conversate. The conversation volume will get very loud so it's not intimate. Its more like a bar or pub with soul. If you want a quiet intimate night out this isn't it. However I enjoy black culture and it was very refreshing. There are plenty of TV's. The seating can be tight but not a problem.. Its best to make reservations. Parking can be a problem. If you are a person that gets cold let the hostess know not to seat you by the door in the winter. The artwork and colors are a nice touch and I enjoyed that. The bar seems to be well stocked. The menu is clear and easy to read. There aren't a ton of options to confuse you when ordering. I was hoping the server would have asked if it was our first time when she greeted us but maybe next time. The reason why I say that is it would have given her an opportunity to give suggestions and make it feel more personal than ok what do you want to order. However i just asked her myself. We were asked multiple times if we had ordered by different servers and that was fine. Silverware came after we were seated and that was ok. The serve seemed to have good knowledge on the menu which is a huge plus. However she seemed a bit rushed and I didn't like that. But it's not a deal breaker. I say that because these things show superior customers service and make you feel like you are all that matters at that moment. They did keep bringing us drinks we didn't it table order. That's wasn't a big deal. It took a long time for us to get our meal. It wasn't just us and I see why the staff kept asking if we ordered. Our table did t have salt and pepper until we asked for it after the food arrived. When the food arrived it was hot. The chop gravy was a tad salty and it needed more rice with it. The chops were tender and good. The greens didn't have slot of soul flavors. They could have been cooked longer and seasoned better. I do know some people like crunchy stems and I don't. I added pepper and it helped them. Since this is considered a soul food spots they should have ginger at the table for the greens. The cornbread was good but not special. I would order the dish again but tell them to hold the salt. The shrimp and grits were good but not memorable. The grits need to more creamy and cheeses. The shrimp was good and not over cooked. This dish feel short . I wouldn't order it again. Now if the shrimp was wild caught and the grits were more creamy it would close to New Orleans flavor. Peach cobbler for dessert and it was the star of the show. Its. 5 cobbler but I'm taking one star because it needs ice cream. Its not a sharable size. "So my brother you will have to get your own".. we needed a spoon for it but only received a knife and fork. You can't gett all the goodness out with a fork. It would be a great touch if the owners would go to each table and thank you for coming like they do in new Orleans. Overall I will be back for more. Is it true soul food? Catfish is excellent when it comes out hot. The pasta dishes always come out lukewarm. Not sure how they keep missing the mark with this one. I ALWAYS have to send my pasta dish back. Flip side to cold food, the atmosphere is a VIBE. Great live music. Music 5 stars They need to keep the bathroom doors closed whenever possible, sitting close by the bathroom smelling things isn't a good look. Customer Service has always been top tier! Employees tend to know the menu and give great recommendations. Usual people complain about customer service BUT that's not the case at this restaurant . The Bartender shows love when making mixed drinks. Make sure you tip the bartender if you sit at the Bar .
