Solid spot, agree with other reviews that this is very much a cross of a dive bar and a barbecue joint. We were here on a Wednesday night, so it was pretty easy to get a spot at the bar. They did have music trivia that night too. In terms of the food itself, it came out super quickly, and the brisket was delicious. It was cooked perfectly and melted in my mouth. The cornbread was good too, but I did not feel the mac & cheese with anything special. Next time I would probably just get two side sides of cornbread or a different side. That being said, I'm here for the brisket and it was amazing like I said. Next time I'd probably get two pieces. Our server was actually the owner, and he was very helpful and attentive. Don't get the burnt ends as a side dish. They add it to beans. It totally takes away from the flavor of the burnt ends. The bark will be soggy and you lose that burst of flavor burnt ends give you. Service was average . Portion size is average for Ohio. However it's small compared to Texas. It's worth a try. I always judge a BBQ spot by how it smells down the street. I recently moved back to Ohio from Texas and decided to give Hank's a try. While the cole slaw and fries are above average, there was noting "Texas" about the meat. This is the second local bbq restaurant I've tried where it appears the layer of fat is removed from the brisket prior to smoking. This results in very dry brisket. Disappointing. Well my cold brew martini was phenomenal and hit the spot! The chicken thighs are so delicious, however I only received one :(. I'm pretty sure that they served me two the last time that we were there. I should have said something but it was a Saturday and the place was busy and our server didn't come back for 30 minutes or so and we just decided oh well and my husband gave me one of the ribs that he had. We sat outside which is covered so it was nice. Does seem that the place could use a good deep cleaning but not bad enough to keep me from returning. The service was good with food and beverages coming out quickly once orders were placed. The food was good but maybe a little skimpy on the meats especially with the prices being charged. I had smoked turkey, pulled pork and smoked sausage with slaw and beans. All the meats were very tasty and moist and the sides were solid. We started with the poutine which was very good. I got the 3 meat platter figuring to sample a little of 3 types of meat and have some leftovers but there was not much leftover due to small portions on the meat. My wife had brisket with green beans and Mac and cheese. The brisket was good but was only one slice which is a fairly small portion. I really wanted this place to be as good as it smelled outside. It was not, sadly. The baked beans are more like a bean soup and nowhere near one's expectations for a baked bbq product. The Mac and cheese was uncoated and flavorless to the point even the macaroni didn't taste like anything. Cole slaw and potato salad were ok. Would have liked a bit more kick to them. All in all, I loved the meats. I really wanted to try the 1/2 bbq chicken but they were out. Came with a group of 8 for a birthday on a Wednesday. We were quickly sat, no issues with waiting. Food came out very quickly as well. We started with the bottle caps, tempura fries and delicious. Not too spicy either, I think they were deseeded. For my entree, I chose the corn cakes. There was not a lot of brisket nor were they as crispy as I would have liked. They fell apart and had a more mushy texture. For the pick 2, we chose the pulled pork and the ribs. Both meats were very tender, I wasnt necessarily that big of a fan of their bbq sauce choices though. The meat however was great! Mac and cheese was good as well. The corn bread was good for a corn bread, but it definitely wasn't spoon bread. So that was a bit misleading. The food looks great- nice bark and smoke ring, and the outside smokers look legit, but the meats are oddly bland, with the sausage being the exception- it was moist and well-spiced with a nice snappy casing. The brisket and pulled pork were under-seasoned and lacked smoke flavor. Just flavorless. The chicken thigh was dry and had tough skin. The turkey breast was just ok. High marks for the mac and cheese- creamy, but the potato salad was undercooked with "hard" potato pieces.
