I need to preface this by stating, I'm not much for soul food - I think I may have been raised a little too caucasianally. However, I was open to trying Str8 when a friend asked me to lunch. The staff was so very friendly, and patient. I kept to the sides, as I am usually a side girl anyways. I ordered macaroni and cheese and the yellow rice. The rice was surprisingly my favorite followed by the Mac... my friend enjoyed his greens and told me the cornbread was really good. Honestly, I thought this place was out of business -- it's closed on Mondays, and I'm usually in the area on Mondays ;-) Note - this is take away only, but they do have a drive through. This was our first time here. This is a drive thru restaurant. We tried the sample meal which allows you to taste a lot on the meat on the menu . The fish and chicken and the lamb chops . The sides we had were delicious greens very tender and seasoned well . The lamb chops definitely cooked and smoked on the grill very tasty . I had 2 different pieces of fish they were delicious. Updating my review of this restaurant again because I rely on and appreciate reviews others leave...tried the fish fry Friday (whiting) which was a great deal for $2 per piece. Seasoned and fried to perfection. Nice sized pieces. The only issue was the fish had some bones. Also tried the fried turkey leg dinner with mac and. Yams. The fried turkey was flavorful but too dry. It would be good if the leg was injected like a regular fried turkey. The sides are always great! Definitely authentic soul food. Food came up in decent time. quick. Wish there was an option to order by phone but usually no answer which is understandable with the small staff. Hopefully will be available at some point. We will be back! I tried this restaurant b/c my cousin posted about it on IG. The food was very good and seasoned well. Small building on E. Main, you may pass it if you're not looking out for it. There are two lanes for drive-thru. I waited about 5-8mns at the window for my food, but it definitely worth the wait. I'll definitely be going back to try the other items on the menu. read more

I dont know what's going on with the service line, just don't make sense to me to go place my order then keep driving around, took 35 min waiting on order. The food was worse, I had the turkey rib. Was super burnt, I should of check my food better because I woke up in sweat and had puked all the food back out. Please don't eat here unless you want to puke all night. read more

Today was my first time trying it out because someone recommended it to me. Always drove past but never really sure if they were open or what to try. Today I got the chicken wing with Mac and potato salad for the meal and cornbread. My boyfriend got the brisket, baked beans, and Mac and cheese. Everything was so good. The food was hot and fresh and full of flavor. I literally could probably just order sides next time and be happy and full. Wings were fresh and hot. Brisket was tender and saucy. Just delicious. The service was equally great. I had to wait a little because wings had to be dropped fresh so I wasn't even mad about that. It was equally as crispy when I got home. Visited Str8 Out The Kitchen on a late Saturday evening. Ordered online and the representative was very clear and organized as she took my order. She stated who they had and what they didn't have. She let me know that my order would be ready in twenty minutes and in twenty minutes it was ready. I am very reluctant to order fast food chicken or fish because those items do not travel well. This time I was ready with a tool to punch holes in the container however, to my surprise holes were already punched. When I got home my chicken was as crispy as one could ever expect. My greens were seasoned very well, mashed potatoes and gravy were very tasty. I hardly ever order potato salad because the he taste varies often but I had to have some to go with my baked beans. Both were outstanding. It was my first visit and it definitely won't be the last. First impressions were on point. read more

I have visited Str8 Out The Kitchen many times. I always order one of the many fish dinners, this visit the fish was salty & the greens was dry. They seemed to be out of a lot of the sides as well. On each of my visits there has been so much inconsistency with the food. This is a drive thru style restaurant, but should really be a dine in style restaurant because how long it takes to receive the food. As for the service, we weren't greeted at the order box until 3 vehicles pulled off. Once we got to the window, the younger gentleman was very polite though. read more

So many people told me to try this place ...smh this is the worst damn place to get some fish for one so I know I'll never try no damn fish from here again shit was cooked to the point it was just dry in crunchy barely any meat! the biggest problem is the sides . the lamb chops are mid but for me to spend 32$ n I'm not please w my whole plate is very ridiculous to me, it makes me not want to go there anymore tbh the mash potatoes and Mac didn't have any seasoning the lamb chop juice got everywhere in my bag so it start leaking and the kool aid is pure sugar to the point you can't drink it tbh , this was my second time here and it wasn't good read more
