Came here when my first choice nearby was closed for the day. I'd heard a ton of good things about…read moretheir other location, of course, and meant to go eventually but forgot this one was here. Tiny, carryout only, though there are a couple of tables to sit while you wait or maybe to eat a quick lunch. Super friendly staff. Fairly short menu; all the good stuff. I wasn't famished and didn't want to wait for chicken or fish, so I got an assortment of sides thinking that would be quicker. They fried up the okra right then, though, and had a steady stream of pickup orders coming through the door, so it still took 10-15 minutes. It was okay, though, smelling the amazing scents coming from the kitchen, talking to the staff and customers. I hadn't noticed they have ribs (just a picture, not on the menu) so I might've ordered those. Oh well. $20 I think, or they do combos with sides or fish and sides. Anyway. I got fried okra, and it was a big portion and absolutely amazing. No need for any sauces, tasty on its own. Perfectly crisp. Baked beans: my style, sauce so thick you can eat them with a fork. Slightly sweet, mostly savory, very good. Greens (collards) with turkey: outstanding. Tender but not floppy, nicely seasoned. Cornbread: soft, sweet, crumbly, topped with butter. Yum. Geechee rice: seasoned, bacon and sausage, very good. And black-eyed pea salad. I like black-eyed peas but had never had them in a salad. These were great: plump, with bits of tomato and cucumber and onion, in a vinegary dressing. Again, yum. Enough food for two meals. They gave me the side plate special, three sides and cornbread, which helped with the price. I was headed home and not thirsty so I didn't get a drink, but based on conversations with other customers I missed out on the lemonade and sweet tea. I'll be back for those and maybe a rib-fish combo. And to try the mac. Get here if you can!

First review of 2026 and first visit here for me! We headed to Grandview to check out The Crispy…read moreCoop for lunch. This place was described as a farm to table chicken joint and also mentions being "rooted in the flavors of the locally loved Uncle Nick's Greek Fried Chicken". I am not totally sure what that reference means, but I can say the food and chicken was good. I had the medium heat fried chicken sandwich and went with mac and cheese plus the mashed potatoes and gravy for my sides. Everything was good. Mashed potatoes needed some salt and pepper and I never add salt to anything, but after that and pouring some gravy on them it was perfect. The heat level on my was great. I went with Medium and may try the Nashville Hot next but that medium was a just right. My partner loves fried chicken and ordered the two-piece meal with a wing and breast, no heat, and enjoyed it as well. No complaints there. Service was the best. The guy that took our order was so personable and friendly and walked us through the options. After we ordered, even brought the food to the table once it was ready. Everything was hot and fresh. Soda machines were down but sure they'll get it fixed soon, and the restrooms were worn and really cold, but none of that was a big deal really. Overall a good experience and a solid option if you are craving some fried chicken or looking for a good chicken sandwich. The place was packed early for a Saturday but I found out because they were closing. I ordered a 2 piece meal with Collard Greens and Mac & Cheese. The seasoning on the chicken was amazing! Very flavorful. Greens were just as tasty. I hope to see this business open up in another location.

Dawn's Fish and Chicken deserves every bit of praise. I am extremely picky about soul food because…read moreI grew up on real Southern cooking and most places simply do not measure up in Central Ohio (and believe me, I've tried them all!). This spot hit the mark in every way. Their deals are unbelievable. They had one dollar wings for game day along with BOGO meals that included catfish, chicken and even fried lobster. I ordered wings, mac and cheese and collard greens and everything was amazing. The wings were perfectly crispy, the mac tasted like home and the greens were fresh and seasoned beautifully. Most places shortcut and use canned greens but not here. I am so glad I gave this place a try. This is officially my new favorite soul food spot and i highly recommend ! Update: had to come back and update this because I got dessert but hadn't tried it when writing the review, but the banana pudding deserves its own shoutout. I'm always nervous trying banana pudding anywhere new because so many places hit you with that artificial "laffy taffy" banana flavor. Not here. This tastes authentic with fresh cream, real ingredients, and zero shortcuts. Absolutely delicious. I love this place and can't wait to come back for more.
