Made the suggestion to go to Good Kitchen 614 because I wanted some homemade food. Very disappointed because every dish except the broccoli and cheese casserole had extremely too much salt in it and I could not eat it. This has happened to me a second time coming here. However the service is always with a smile, the food looks amazing and I really was disappointed in the taste this time. On a quest to find a delicious soul food restaurant that I can frequent. I ordered a couple of dinners so I could get an idea of how the food taste. I ordered them Salisbury steak with mashed potatoes and gravy and macaroni and cheese and I also ordered the meat sauce and spaghetti and garlic toast. I had never heard of sweet potato cobbler so I had to give that a try. One thing that I noticed as I was carrying my bag to the car I noticed that the container did not feel warm. When I got home the food was barely warm so that tells me that I did not receive hot food in the first place. Anyway I just popped the food in the microwave when I got home. The Salisbury steak and the mashed potatoes were delicious. The macaroni and cheese was mushy (it had plenty of cheese, though) but I guess some people like their macaroni noodles overcooked but I prefer my noodles to have a some chew to it. The container with the meat sauce and spaghetti was so heavy, but when I opened the container it was like a pound of spaghetti and just a cup of meat sauce which made the meat sauce almost disappear when I mixed it all together. What I should have done was remove some of the spaghetti noodles before mixing the meat sauce. None of the food was hot just look warm. I have had other carryout food from other restaurants and even traveled a longer distance to get home, and the food was still hot when I got home, so that just shows that this food was not hot in the first place. I wanted to try their catfish but they did not have it so I just opted for One piece of whiting to get an idea of the seasoning of their fried fish, which was fried well. Lastly, the sweet potato cobbler was extraordinary! I will definitely return to this restaurant so that I can try the liver and onions which they only sell on Wednesdays. I'll start with the good, because it was really good. I called early ( around 12:15, they opened at 1 PM ) and the guy that answered the phone offered to start up the fryer early in order to make me a pork chop for lunch before I headed out of town. Now if that isn't customer service I don't know what is! I declined and actually just waited since I was so moved by the offer. The lady behind the counter was also extremely nice. So their customer service is top tier! Now for the bad : One Pork Chop and Two Pieces of Bread is $10! - that's way too expensive, I know inflation is crazy right now, but damn. Also if you order ahead over the phone you have to pay with credit card right then and there, I guess too many clowns have ordered and not picked up their meals. Also the taste of the pork chop was fresh, but weird. It taste as though they used the same batter that just put fish in, or fried fish in the same oil. It was just really unpleasant. I had to finish it though. Can't let $10 go down the drain. Ha Side note, be prepared to eat in your car or at home. Choose your meat and get two sides- but you'll have trouble narrowing it down to two, so you might want to get some extras! It all smelled and looked great. I got the fried perch, with mac and cheese and greens; and smothered pork chops, with cabbage and sweet potato casserole. They also had mashed potatoes, broccoli casserole, and a few other sides. The perch was perfect: hot, tender and flaky, light breading. The pork chops were very good: meaty, fried up nicely, with a good gravy. The mac and cheese was very good home-made style (though it has to compete with Sweetie's mom's pinnacle of excellence, and it is close but not up there.) The greens were excellent- vinegary, tender, flavorful. The cabbage was perfect: not overcooked, and a few other veggies thrown in for color. The sweet potatoes were so good I had to slow myself down. Service was friendly and fast. Prices are very reasonable- we got all that for under $20, and it was plenty. We'll be back. This restaurant offers very Good Food and my husband and I have been patronizing their business for many days. I ordered my food and was told there would be a 20 minute wait on the sides I ordered (collard greens) and if I wanted to substitute my sides. I decided to wait the 20 minutes which turned into 40 minutes. I decided to check on my order and when it was finally ready I asked for a complimentary dessert for my wait. Another worker decided to challenge my waiting time and even suggested checking the cameras to verify how long I had to wait . (Really) I thought her comments were Poor Customer Service.... I've been here twice. The 1st time I had someone order me a pork chop with cabbage and greens. I didn't like anything but the pork chop. The cabbage had a lot of other vegetables in it, which was different than I am used to BUT it would've been fine if it tasted good. The taste was too salty and I don't know what type of seasoning they used but it did not go well with that cabbage. The greens, I actually can't remember exactly what those tasted like but I remember not liking those either. I went there again recently. Bought the 3 piece fried perch with 2 sides and added sides and shared with my hubby on Juneteenth! LET ME TELL YOU it was a plate full of divine yum!!!!! YOU will not be disappointed!!! Soul food is my JAM so I was super geeked to try this place and it did not disappoint. Fried fish, mac and cheese, and yams, amen. The yams were some of the best I've tasted, it almost tasted like there was some vanilla in them, the mac and cheese was cheesy and just right, and the fried fish was crunchy and seasoned to perfection. The greens are perfect. As far as I am concerned this is one of the best soul food places there is in columbus. So perfectly seasoned you don't have to add anything. I grew up eaten truly good southern comfort food and this place bye far to me is the best. The owner truly knows his way around the kitchen. Kudos to the young lady taken and filling the orders, so polite, well mannered and very courteous. I hope this business does well and receives support from the community and Ohio Dominican College located close bye. We tried this place today and I'm glad we did. First, walked in and was greeted by the owners... husband and wife team... and asked questions since we hadn't been there before. The answers were "would you like to try it?". Which made deciding even more difficult since every sample was good. My wife had the double pork chop with sides of baked beans and greens. I recently attended an event at Trinity/CU in Columbus and The Good Kitchen catered the lunch following a dynamic speaker. It was so delicious! The greens are perfect taste and texture, the breaded fish (cod, I believe) was crunchy breading and super moist, meaty center, and OMgoodness the mac and cheese is the best I've had ever! I'm only in Columbus about once a month, but I have every intention of including The Good Kitchen as my favorite go to place to visit each time I'm in town. Probably one of the worst black owned businesses I've pardoned recently. They were not following Covid-19, Coronavirus social distancing guidelines set in place by the Centers for Disease and Control and our President/White House. I felt compromised the entire time and everyone else seemed just fine. I don't know. I would follow doctors orders before disregarding them but hey okay. Aside from the extremely, unacceptable long wait, the food was something out of a horror movie. What box did this mashed potatoes come out of? Mac and cheese was decently, good actually. Salmon croquettes were not right, something was lagging in the first taste wave. Rice grains were cooked great and were not mushy. Gravy tasted homemade, I will give it to you. That cabbage though?? What in calamity was that? Did you blend in mixed vegetables with al dente, crisp cabbage? Chicken wings were not done enough to my liking and I don't favor the darker colors towards the bones, no siree bob. The area of which this is located is actually pretty significant. It's near the Historic Valleydale Ballroom on Sunbury Road, adjacent to the reminiscent Dairy Queen. The cashier, and everything else she was doing except changing those tired ass gloves she kept touch EVERYTHING with, did apologize for the wait. I ordered The pork chop meal and had it delivered through Trap eats ( a new delivery service Black owned ) and I only received 1 piece of pork chop, instead of two shown in the picture advertised. I also ordered cabbage , which was nasty , it had different vegetables in it which i haven't seen in cabbage before like peas, carrots and corn . also the pork chops wasn't seasoned well.
