We moved to Westerville from San Antonio, Texas, and we tried every "barbecue" place around, but none of them were even close to all the great Texas barbecue we'd been taking for granted. Ray Ray's absolutely blew us away. Is it an odd little drive thru? Yes. Did we eat our meal in the Home Depot parking lot? We sure did. Another visit to Ray Ray's. Ordered a pulled pork sandwich, had a little more fat than I like but they put some sauce on it with the right amount of zip, all on an Auddino bun. Ordered bake beans that had a very lackluster flavor to them. You have to do something other than canned Bean taste. Corned bread pudding was very dry. Greens we're half liquid and just not super flavorful. The best was the Mac n cheese, a lot of cheese in it but also could tell it was the last of that batch. All in all not bad not good. I really really wanted this place to be good. The flavor of all the meat we had (baby back ribs, pork and brisket) was fantastic. But... The meat was Dryer than stale bread. So severely disappointed. At least the dog ate it. I presume that on differient days there is higher quality of food, based on the reviews I've seen. Simple things go a long way. Like using a slotted spoon when scooping collared greens, checking the meat as you cut into it. It was very obvious by looking at both the ribs and brisket that it was over cooked. It was more like beef jersey than BBQ. I have honesty never ate ribs that were suction cuped into the bone before. I think my unborn child would have been able to tell me that it's dry before I bit into it. The Mac and cheese was like boxed Mac and cheese, and the bbq sauces main ingredient was sugar, sugar, and more sugar. Tried 3 sauces and the all tasted the same, like sugar. $75 later for a lb of ribs, a half pound of brisket and pork, with 2 small sides. Wanted it to be amazing, but just left curious how they can call themselves the best bbq in Ohio. 2/5, only reason I'm not giving one star was because the Smokey flavor of the meat. I would not reccomend this place. Just get city bbq instead. It's just more consistent. read more

Yum!! We have heard all about Ray Ray's but had not been there before. We live in Dublin and thought it was a haul to get there. Wow. What flavor. We did a phone-in order and drove over to get it. (hint- use the walk up window if you already ordered). Got two orders of ribs with dry rub and sweet BBQ sauce. 4 different sides so we could try them out. All were delicious. Not sure what some of the negative reviews have been about lately. This place was absolutely AMAZING! We went on a Sunday afternoon and the grass fed brisket was the BEST BBQ sandwich I've ever had!! It was so tender and full of flavor. Their sweet BBQ sauce is really really good. We also thoroughly enjoyed the mac n cheese, corn puddin' and the the baked beans. All of these came out hot and very fresh. The line was not long when we got there around 2:30 and it was nice to be able to walk up to the window and then go sit on the picnic tables in the shade once we got our food. I keep coming back for disappointment. There are good things to say, but the end result is always the same. I wish I had picked someplace else. The final straw for me today - the reason I probably won't go back - is that they just couldn't be bothered to trim the silver skin from my ribs. I don't quite know why this happens. I had a similar experience at Rendevous in Memphis and they are world renowned. At least there the sides and sauces were in the right place. Ray Ray's sauces are lackluster, downright forgettable, and the sides are just ok. It's a shame. I want to love them and I just can't. My husband and I were wanting to find a super good bbq spot in Columbus, and after some searching and review reading, we knew we had to try Ray Ray's. We stopped by on a Saturday afternoon and only had 2 cars in front of us in the drive thru. My husband ordered the meat sweats box and I ordered the Carolina chopped pork sandwich. We didn't get any sides because #1- None of them really appealed to us. #2- The other reviews described the sides as lacking. I did find myself wishing they had some fries or potato wedges to go with my sandwich, but it is what it is. To echo what most other people have already said about Ray Ray's- it's good! Like, really good! The meat has fantastic flavor, and the rubs and seasonings just totally permeate every bite. I'm personally a dry rub lover, and I don't like very much sauce at all. So this was perfect! I really enjoyed my sandwich, although I have to admit I was still a little hungry afterwards with no sides. My husband loved his box, and sampling the different meats. I tried a piece of the hot link from his box and thought it was awesome! (And I'm not a big sausage link type of person.) The verdict- We will definitely come here again. Although, I can see us probably buying the meats by the pound, and then bringing them home or to a family get together where there are other side options! This place was so good, the wife and I came back two days later before we left the city when our vacation ended. It's no-frills barbecue. Doesn't need to be anything else. The location we visited was tiny. All the seating was outside, and it was comfortable in the summer. There was a drive-thru line that stayed long and full. And the outside line for those that parked was the same. And oh man, was the barbecue GOOD. Pretty sure we tried all the sides, and tried the family platter to figure out which was the best. I'm a vinegar fan, but the sweet sauce and haberno sauce were awesome too. I like spicy and the haberno sauce doesn't hold back while still maintaining flavor. We also got the kids meal, Mac and cheese, and collard greens. Lately, I feel like all Mac at bbq joints are such a miss. This Mac is awesome. Really cheesy and flavorful. The collard greens recommended by employee were awesome. The broth is so garlicky and comforting. Kids meal is huge by the way, enough for an adult. As a negative, the brisket sandwich is expensive for the amount of brisket you get on the sandwich. My friend got the cauliflower burnt ends which was also undercooked and chewy. Just went here for the first time this week during lunchtime and it was awesome! We got two sandwiches (one pulled pork and one brisket), their largest side of mac and cheese, and two beverages for $25 + tip. Sadly their is no lunch special deal like the old bbq shack, and the bill ran up quicker than I expected, but it was still worth it. They do not skimp on the size of the sandwiches. They fill an entire hoagie roll with meat, and let me tell you, the pulled pork melts in your mouth like butter. You've heard meat described this way by many people I'm sure, and once you experience it, you know the saying is legit. Their mac and cheese is also way better than Hot Chicken Takeover's. Sorry for you fans out their, but it's true. They add a bit of cayenne pepper and it adds a subtle heat to the cheese sauce without overpowering it. It's a nice contrast to the sweetness of the bbq sauce. Their largest container was more than enough to share between two very hungry people added on as a side to our sandwiches. Even on a Wednesday afternoon, this place attracts quite a few patrons. The line goes quickly and there are several picnic tables to eat at in the shade. I'd heard of Ray Ray's for quite some time, and now they're open in Westerville. It's a great addition to the food options north of the outer belt. Even though they've only been open for a couple of weeks, there was a good line for service late Sunday afternoon. Ray Ray's is a walk up -- true to their food truck heritage -- although there are several picnic tables with umbrellas if you want to dine al fresco. Parking is challenging at the Westerville location, however. We got pulled pork, brisket, jerk chicken thighs, cole slaw and Mac n cheese. They gave me a ramikin of Carolina vinegar-based BBQ sauce. Other options are available, but be sure to ask for it. The pork and brisket were the best. Well executed barbecue; better than local competitors like City Barbecue. This place posted priced for the Brisket sandwich for 8.00 om their site. I drove over waiting in line for about 30 minutes. (Car in front and behind me of I would have left). Poor or no management on site to ease the traffic jam of 4 cars. So after sitting in a long line to find out they raised the price to 15 dollars for a leftover brisket sandwich. I asked why they changed the price and I was told I didnt have to eat there. I told the employee I wanted to either speak to the manager or the owner, he replied the owner dont talk with customers so I asked for a manager and was told he was busy doing something else. These guys are open a limited amount of days during the week but it is well worth it. Offer a variety of some of the best barbecue you can find in this area. Sides are available also. It is a drive-through but you find yourself ready to race home in order to (dig). I would highly recommend the pulled pork, their coleslaw is great and I like the jalapeño sauce that just adds a little more spice. The Mac and Cheese was dry and steam-table rubbery, the slaw overdressed and limp. The sauces were undistinguished, mostly tomato paste or ketchup and brown sugar as far as I could tell, and there was none of the deeply smoky low and slow melting flavor I expect of pit barbecue. I stumbled upon the place quite by accident today and decided to give it a try because I was hungry and that moment. I ran to the UPS Store and came back up here to pick up some food. First off I was appalled at the pricing it cost me $18.50 for a beef brisket sandwich and a drink it came with no sides, my meat was cold, the bun was not soft and for the price I paid I didn't get a single napkin for a barbecue sandwich which I did not discover until after I pulled away. The man at the window asked me if I wanted to tip the crew. I said no as I was already in my head thinking I'm already paying almost $19 for a sandwich and a drink. First time visiting Ray Ray's was on their anniversary celebration. The whole hog sandwich (with sherry wine bbq sauce) is the best BBQ I've had since living in Texas. There were dozens of people in line for their share and families happily feasting on the haven of green space between the Tide dry cleaners valet and Home Depot. Thank goodness for their shady picnic table umbrellas because it was a hot sunny summer day. Several of my friends ordered ice cream floats from their conveniently located ice cream truck. They were serving floats with their famous sherry wine. Makes sense that this BBQ foodtruck has expanded into an empire with local foodie followers! Been hearing about Ray Ray's forever but I was never fortunate to be near his High Street locations. When I heard he had taken over the former barbecue place I was elated that I'd finally be able to partake of his barbecue. In order to give a truly good review I opted to try the brisket, the baby back ribs and pulled pork. I got the baked beans and the macaroni and cheese as sides. I chose the regular bbq sauce and the Carolina gold sauce. Now keep in mind we couldn't eat this all in one sitting. Rather we broke up eating the meats for three separate meals. I was so excited to try this place based on the reviews and overall hype. We went not long after open and it was good but not amazing. We have it another shot...well worth it. Their beef brisket is what they do best. I usually pick pork over brisket, but theirs is so tender & flavorful. On a weekend night the line might be wrapped around the building so prepare to wait. This is such a move addition to Westerville & great use of the small existing building. Tried all the sides, a warning to the picky. The Mac & cheese has a smoked Gouda. I've been here three times now. The first time, we waited in the drive thru an hour to get food. We ordered grass fed brisket, Mac n cheese, coleslaw, and corn puddin. The brisket itself was good, but the bark and fat were really salty! The coleslaw is on the sweet side (like KFC) but super fresh and crisp. I loved it! The corn puddin blew us away. So good!!! We didn't care for the Mac n cheese. The 2nd time, the drive thru wait was 30 minutes. We ordered brisket, baby back ribs, coleslaw, corn puddin, and a stout brownie. Again, the bark and fat on the brisket was super salty. So we agreed this must be how they do brisket here; and the first time wasn't a fluke. So we will not be ordering it again (and we love brisket!!!). The baby back ribs were so dry they were almost inedible, and tasted like there wasn't any seasoning or rub on them whatsoever (we requested dry rub). Some of the ribs only had meat on one half of them, and the meat side was dried and shriveled up. The coleslaw and corn puddin' were good, but not as good as the first time (the corn puddin was kinda dry and the coleslaw not as crisp). We both enjoyed the fudgy stout brownie. One thing that bugged us was that there were three employees not wearing masks. I tried not to worry about it, but I did, as I am immunocompromised. Ray Ray's should have not only the customers safety in mind, but also that of the employees. Then last night, we decided to stop by there around 7:45, because we were in the area and needed dinner. We knew it was close to closing and expected a limited menu for that reason. They only had jerk chicken and sausage left, so we ordered 2 sausage sandwiches. The girl helping us wasn't wearing a mask and neither were the rest of the employees, and there wasn't a 6ft distance between my husband (in the drivers seat) and her. He asked why they weren't wearing masks, and she said they're closing soon and made the decision to take them off (btw she was one of the people not wearing a mask last time either). A coworker then asked her what he asked and she turned around and said to her coworker "he asked why I wasn't wearing a mask and I was gonna get smart with him but decided not to". She was not exactly quiet when she said that. Then we heard a bunch of giggling. Our jaws dropped. That was so unprofessional. If we hadn't already paid for our food, we would've left. The employees clearly do not care about the health and safety of not only their customers, but each other. Wow. Was running errands in the neighborhood and smelled the aroma of Smoking BBQ. So I decided to buy some meats for dinner. For 1 pound of each offering (chicken jerk, brisket, and pork) it came to 41$. TOTALLY worth it! Absolutely delicious Jerk chicken was in a wet sauce and comes with a pickled onions side. Yum! The brisket was my favorite and will definitely get again. Smoky and tender. I can dream of it. The pork was a little dry but we asked for no sauce. So I'm sure it would be fine with bbq sauce.
