This is normal in Japan and I believe the owners are Japanese anyway. The staff girl is very kind, soft spoken and extremely patient, reminds me of staff in Japan. The broth itself was quite delicious. Only thing that put the whole dish down was the abundance of beansprouts, there were beansprouts on the top and bottom/side (?) but just a whole lot. The pork was almost paper thin and very small. Maybe if it came with more than just two thin meat, would be better. Otherwise everything else is okay. The price of $24 for the dragon is absolutely not worth it though. Should be around same price less than $20 for it. 3.6/5

The pork char siu slices were very thin, and for the price, it didn't really feel worth it. Flavor-wise it was okay, but nothing beyond expectations. The chicken karaage was even more overpriced. $9.2 for just 4 small pieces - so basically ~$2.5 a bite, not worth it. Overall, it didn't really aligned with our expectations. We thought it was in a corner of the plaza so the price would have been reasonable, turned out that it wasn't really. Probably wouldn't revisit. The service is top here and the owner of the restaurant is so funny and nice. Great guy to have as our server! My only one call out was the food smell in the restaurant was fairly strong since the kitchen is right next to the seating area so all of our clothes smelt like food after we left. Food: - Black Garlic Tonkotsu ramen: 4.5/5 stars. Totally forgot to take a picture of this, but it was really good. I really liked how the Ramen was not oily. The soup base was very yummy. The noodles were cooked to the right texture and the meat was great. Everything was very flavorful! - pork tonkatsu: 5/5 stars. This was the best pork tonkatsu I've ever had. It was fried but not oily and it came with three individual huge slices for only $15. MUST TRY - grilled gyoza: 4/5 stars. Everything was very carefully packaged for delivery and the soup came in plastic container inside of a plastic bag which is good since it did leak a bit. The noodles survived the trip and uncaked themselves once the broth was poured in. I thought the broth was very good! Especially for a place that does more than just ramen. There were also a lot of toppings which kept it interesting.

I decided to have an early dinner after work a couple of Wednesdays ago. Parking is much better on a weekday. I got a spot between Walmart and entrance 9, and walked over. I walked through the door after reading the helpful sign to push it. Push it real good, according to Salt-N-Pepa... haha I was immediately greeted by a woman who would be my server. She led me to a table and I got a menu to peruse. A male staffer was chowing down and a woman behind me was almost done eating when I sat down. It was quiet and nice. A group of three women came in towards the end of my stay. I am normally a miso or shoyu broth person. I looked at how creamy the tonkotsu looked and wanted it. I got it with thick noodles and corn. I also got a Diet Pepsi and gyoza. The former came first. It came in a cup. The carbonation was nice. It tasted crisp. It was cold. I loved it. My ramen and gyoza came together. It was different, but I was fine with it. The gyoza was excellent. The filling was delicious. Each wrapper held everything together. It was pan-fried perfectly. The dipping sauce made each gyoza yummy. I loved the tonkotsu ramen. I normally don't like the smell of tonkotsu. It was different here. The pork smell was down to a minimum. The broth was creamy and full of body. I loved it so much that I drank the whole thing. I have never done that with tonkotsu broth ever. I got thick noodles. They were chewy and bouncy. So good! The chachu was excellent. I got two decent slices. They were so yummy with the egg, black fungus, and green onion. The corn elevated this bowl of ramen. The super flavorful broth is the star of the show, and it's complemented by an array of tasty components. (Ironically, the pork itself was the weakest element, as it had a bit of a leftover-y taste.) The restaurant has plenty of seating, but it definitely has more of a fast-paced feel, with people constantly coming and going. I ordered the udon, which came with katsu and tempura. I liked that it offered a good variety, and everything was cooked well. I also tried some of my wife's ramen, and I'd say both dishes were enjoyable, but nothing really stood out. The service was okay. The staff were friendly, but they seemed pretty busy. I had to ask a few times to get my water refilled, so service felt a little slower than I would have liked. The biggest downside for me was the price. It felt more expensive than other ramen shops with similar quality, and I think you're paying a bit of a premium for the Yorkdale location. Overall, it's a convenient spot if you're already at the mall and craving ramen or udon. I'd come back if I was shopping nearby, but it's not somewhere I'd go out of my way to visit.
