Orochon Ramen lunch. $25 including tip !
    David D.

No complaints about the quality of ingredients or the service. I was the only customer at 1pm on a busy weekday. Office towers are across the street and lots of residences steps away. And I found out why... $25 including tip for a modest bowl of Oroochon Ramen. Seriously, an adult will not feel full or properly nourished with the serving size. I simply cannot feel satisfied with the value.

A very small restaurant, 5 tables for 4's but non stop take out orders being picked up while we were here for a very late lunch. No issue with service since we are the only table here that late. They are in the middle of changing all the prices so I have no idea how much our meals were going to be when we ordered. I can see the kitchen is clean and orderly from where I sit but the one that always bother me with these kitchens is those white plastic bucket they have sitting on the floor. In this case it's the bean spouts and it's all good - the visual just bothers me. Not taking a star of tho. The one star off is the soup - which I'm picky about. It's a common thing here in all the Toronto Ramen shops - the soho is always too salty. Kenzo is no different. The flavour is great but I asked for a cup of hot water so I could dilute it before I could eat it. We also order the pork shoulder and Katsu - both excellent.

Love the salmon nigiri and ramen, the food came quickly and the staff were kind, and the inside was nice and not to crowded.

Small restaurant with friendly staff. The ramen is hearty and ingredients were fresh and flavorful. This is my go-to restaurant for ramen.

I had the king of kings ramen and the katsu curry and they were both so tasty, perfect amount of spice, tender meats.

Known for their ramen (which we did not have as we had dinner previously, but we will definitely come back to try). Instead we feasted on small plates, Japanese poutine (which was not small but shareable), karage, matcha cheesecake and yatsuhashi. We got there after 9pm, at the time only one other table was occupied but it is only a 4 table shop so it is very quaint and personable. The Leafs game was on, a few Toronto team sports memorabilia donned the wall by the TV, a soccer jersey hung which gave it a bit more character ... I love the idea of being able to watch sports and snack on yummy delicious snacks. It is a great place to hang out and chat with friends, maybe even a date The dishes were great. We were happy, warm and full! On top of it all the chef had comr over to chat with us too, he introduced us to the yatsuhashi and we learned he has beem operating for 8 years. The name, Nobuya stands for his name and 'ya' means store. We cant wait to go back and try the ramen!

We ordered the laksa and Hainanese chicken. The laksa was quite coconutty and had a nice flavor to it. There was a bit of toppings to it, but the portion was overall small. The Hainanese chicken had a lot of chicken, but was served on plain rice. Service was oddly slow, even when there were only two tables there. but overall, it was worth trying.

There was the correct flavour profile for both but it was not strong enough. Nasi Lemak: the rice had a super light coconut scent & no taste (it tasted like normal white rice). The sambal was super spicy & had some coconut in it. Spiciness aside it was pretty good. The chicken itself seemed was pretty tasty (it was probably ayam bakar, though the flavour didn't penetrate far below the surface) but it was covered with sambal which basically obliterated the underlying taste. The peanuts were good - not too big & some were slightly sweet with some flavoured crust. The anchovies were very deep fried & rather dry. The egg was a ramen egg - pretty good as ramen eggs go, but it didn't go with the dish. The dish was served with Vietnamese fish sauce dip, which didn't go.

We shared the tako wasabi and beef carpaccio which were both pretty good! Tako wasabi - can't go wrong. The beef carpaccio was also quite nice - lots of flavour and super tasty, cracker gives it a nice crunch. I tried their Paitan shio. It was pretty good - the broth was delicious and very creamy. On presentation - it's super foamy which I've never seen before. I added a ramen eggs, but it is also topped with pork, bamboo shoots, and more.

From the outside, it's a blink-and-you'll-miss-it spot, but the inside has an authentic, buzzing vibe, complete with what I can only assume was a Japanese top-40 station playing. The layout is long and narrow, making clever use of the space. There are tables for two, larger group spots with benches, and a fully stocked bar complete with stools that seems ideal for solo diners or couples. Practical touches are everywhere: coat hangers at shoulder height, bag hooks under the bar, and a carafe of water that appears on your table moments after you do. The decor is an interesting mix of traditional (wood and paper light fixtures) and quirky (a random yellow bicycle mounted on the wall). I opted for the creamy chicken broth ramen, upgrading with an egg and pork wontons. Now, a heads-up for ramen purists: this isn't strictly traditional. The broth was surprisingly foamy - a first for me--but the flavor was fantastic and deeply savory with clear soy notes. The bowl came with bamboo shoots, red onions, slices of chicken breast (another new one for me in ramen), noodles of course and pork that had the texture of thinly sliced ham. It was an unexpected but delicious combination. So, why four stars and not five? The noise. For a small, intimate space, the sound level was... a lot. Between the music being a touch too loud and my neighbors narrating their entire lives at top volume, my post-tai chi zen was thoroughly rattled. I found it a bit unsettling and couldn't really hear myself think, let alone savor the ramen in peace. Bottom line: The food is inventive and genuinely delicious. If you're looking for a lively, bustling spot with a great bowl of ramen, this is it. If you're a person who prefers a more tranquil, contemplative slurping experience, perhaps bring noise-canceling headphones (which i eventually pulled out) or aim for an off-peak time. I'll be back for the food, but I might need to mentally prepare for the auditory adventure.

So when the opportunity arose to pop in for a quick drink and some food, I was pretty stoked. We showed up shortly after 6:00 on Thursday evening and the place was empty. As far as ambiance goes, the joint wasn't super promising; there was an oscillating fan sitting on top of one of the tables, a woman was caring for a baby near the back, and the music was being piped from a very clear Bluetooth speaker. Not great. The food and my drink fared slightly better. For my cocktail, I went with the Lucky Strike ("Lucky Charms Milk Punch + Nikka Days Whisky"), which I thought was fine. There was no real complexity of flavor and I thought that it was too sweet, but I basically enjoyed it. We got a couple of Dim Sum options, the Har Gow ("shrimp") and the Cha Sew Bao ("barbecue pork bun"), and they were both pretty middle-of-the-road but generally satisfying. The three accompanying sauces helped, too. I feel like Resurrection was having an off night, so I'll maybe go back and give it another shot in the future.
