Pizzeria Via Napoli - Risotto ai Funghi ($21)

Tried out this local Etobicoke pizza place on the Dundas strip by burnamthorpe. Small place with…read morewood burning stove in front. Food (3.5/5) - had the Margherita and it was ok. Crust was soft but less chewy than typical ones. Neapolitan style where they put a lot of sauce on so u have to eat with fork knife. I prefer a more firm NY style vs a soggier type. Service (4.5/5) - it wasn't busy and I got pretty quick service overall. Pizza was on my table in less than 10 minutes from order as the guy started making it in front immediately after ordering. Atmosphere (4/5) - some tables in front and more in back for larger groups. Seemed clean and in good shape. Overall (3.75/5) - service was fast and friendly. Just wished the pizza was bit better and more traditional margherita style. Similar level to Dino's wood burning but below ones like Super, North of Brooklyn, etc.

We showed up around noon on a recent Saturday and the joint was empty, so we snagged a sweet table right by the front. A bunch of the appetizers sounded really appealing, but we decided to try the Polpette di Melanzane ("Eggplant balls, red pepper and tomato sauce, whipped ricotta"). The dish arrived shortly after and was absolutely delicious. The eggplant balls were cooked perfectly (I was worried they might be a little mushy), while the accompanying sauce and ricotta only enhanced the experience. This was certainly a stellar way to kick off the meal. The main attraction was the pizza, obviously, and I decided to try the Pizza Oro ("Crushed San Marzano tomatoes, house-made sausage, pepperoni, `nduja sausage, garlic, basil, oregano, fior di latte, coriander vinaigrette"). It's an extensive list of toppings and I was curious to see if they worked well together or if it would be a cacophony of flavors. I needn't have worried, because this is one outstanding 'za. Everything works so well together, and the various components complement each other beautifully. The whole thing's held together by a perfectly-cooked crust, too. I could eat this pizza every day for the rest of my life and be quite happy. I hope that more people discover Pizzeria Via Napoli, because I'd rank them near the top of any list of Toronto's best Neapolitan-style pizza.

My husband and I were in town for the Blue Jays game to see our friends. We couldn't get tickets…read morefor the Jays game, so they recommended that we visit the Bull on Bloor in Etobicoke. This was Game 7! Do or die! We were all adorned in Jays' paraphernalia and arrived early to get seated before it got crowded. There were already many Jays fans sitting along the tables. We sat down at the bar and were greeted by a beautiful and friendly bartender, Deja. She asked us how we are. We told her we were from out of town. She knew our friends very well, and she raced around the bar to give them a huge hug. She hugged us, too! We ordered a couple of Blue Jay beer specials, and we got very comfortable. Deja was interested in where we were from and if we had family. We have two grown kids who are away at school. She showed us a picture of her adorable 3-year-old daughter. She loves her so much, and you could see she was a great mom! It started getting busier as it was closer to game time, and at this point, there was only standing room. She had two barbacks help her get the orders in. The game was on, and it was getting louder and louder as people were cheering for our JAYS! It was complete madness with so many people that you couldn't breathe. But the environment was so energetic and fun, we didn't care. We could see how busy Deja was, yet she attended to everyone's orders and never missed a beat in a professional and friendly manner. She was truly amazing! I could never handle so many people at once. The night went by, and we all know the undesirable result of the game. The entire room was in shock, and their faces were just drained in disappointment. I felt like the overwhelming sadness was shared in the room, and we all began to console each other. At that point, some discouraged people stayed and drank some more, but we needed to go. Deja thanked us, and she ran around the bar, and we all had a vigorous group hug, knowing it would be okay. We will heal. We gave her a great tip, and she thanked us and asked us to come back again. We definitely will. I highly recommend stopping by the Bull on Bloor! We made great memories and new friends.

An actual good deal at a bar ! Interior is newish and clean. Customer base is rough and ready which is refreshing. Feels like an American bar. My server and bartender was Deja. She was great. I will return. One complaint would be the lighting. It's too damn bright.

I think I was intimidated because there's not much information about the joint online. I walked in and there were a few people having drinks, so I grabbed a seat at the end of the bar. After walking by for months and seeing the sign for their own Kanu Lager, I obviously had to order that. It's a very simple, very tasty lager that's super easy to drink. I'll definitely be drinking it again. I was feeling a little peckish, too, so I asked to see a menu. Everything sounded really tasty, so I asked for a recommendation and wound up with the Calamari Rings. They're surprisingly, shockingly good. They're perfectly fried and enhanced by a really tasty (and spicy) dipping sauce. I also want to single out the ambience and the service, both of which were tremendously appealing. It's a small, dark bar, which I love, and my server was helpful without being intrusive. I really don't know why it took me so long to check out Kanu. It's a really cool little place and I'm looking forward to stopping by on a regular basis in the future.

The seasoning was spot on, and the portion size was more than generous. The platter was paired with fresh garnishes, tangy ajvar, creamy garlic sauce, and diced onions for the perfect bite. We also had the Caesar salad, which was fresh and crisp with plenty of Parmesan and a creamy dressing that balanced well against the richness of the meats. The presentation was inviting, the flavors were authentic, and it's clear this place takes pride in quality Balkan-style comfort food. Definitely a great spot if you're craving hearty grilled dishes in Toronto's west end. Highly recommend for both sharing plates and casual family-style dining. Not to forget the excellent service. The staff are always friendly.

The Royal Cannon was flavourful, but I found it extremely cheesy and oily on the inside. While the taste was good, the amount of cheese was overwhelming for me. I also got to try the beef chevaps, which I found to be very yummy. The bread was toasted giving it a nice crisp, the ajvar and kaymak went really well with the bread and chevaps, and lastly the portion size was huge! Service was okay. Wait times were a bit on the slower end, and when one of the servers brought someone in our party tea, they carelessly spilled some on the table, and never even acknowledged or noticed the mess they made. If I visit again, I'd probably go for the chevaps myself.
