Nights at On/Off Toronto Restaurant & Bar really do hit different. Atmosphere The moment I walked in, the neon glow and low lighting instantly set the mood. This place has been around for 3 years if I remember correctly. And I remember their food was quite decent last time when I visited with friends. But unfortunately, this time we got a bit disappointed. Platter was filled with cheap/frozen fries that I don't event want to put it in my system. Salmon udon looked so sad, and we couldn't finish it. Cocktail was not bad though. I liked their lighting and decorations. The server looks cute but doesn't seem to be knowledgeable when we had questions (and keep forgot our requests..) I support local businesses and hate to say this. But probably I may not come back anymore as now there are many other fusion bar options available in North York. *This is only personal opinion, and your experience might be different. Cute little Chinese izakaya spot at Yonge and finch. They definitely don't skimp on the alcohol because the drinks are strong! Service was good. No complaints. This spot only opens at 6:00 so when we got there for 7:00. The place was cold and still warming up. And everytime the door opened it would Get cold over again so that was the uncomfortable part. I checked out the menu beforehand and the prices seemed reasonably good, so we decided to give this place a try. It's definitely a nice spot to hang out with friends, grab drinks, and enjoy some small bites. Coming here specifically for dinner, though, might not have been the best choice. Once our food arrived, the pricing made more sense. The dishes were essentially fusion-style Asian pasta bowls. Think udon, sauce, and about 4-5 thin slices of meat. Portions lean toward tapas-sized, and I found myself worried I wouldn't be full. I ordered the Creamy Curry Udon with Pork. The sauce was delicious and paired well the udon and lastly topped with a spoon full of mashed potatoes and grape tomatoes as a garnish, which was surprisingly enjoyable. Still, I couldn't help feeling a bit shortchanged with only five small slices of bacon. My husband ordered the Spicy Beef Udon. The flavor was great, but he was disappointed by the tiny amount of shredded beef and the complete lack of vegetables. Overall, the food tastes good, but the portions and protein-to-noodle ratio make it feel more like a bar snack than a proper dinner. This was a fun looking bar with bright neon decor. It's not a big space but it has a few tables and small bar top. Didn't order any of their drinks but saw some from other tables that looked pretty good. We tried the salmon fried udon which was okay but something about the combination of the smoked salmon flavours with the cream sauce was a little off. The Taiwanese popcorn chicken was decent and crispy but nothing special. The corn cheese pizza which was Korean cheese corn on a scallion pancake was pretty good. I preferred the corn without the pancake however. The Chinese style poutine was the best dish. It had good flavour and the fries and meet were seasoned well. Initially, I wanted table seat but soon after, I felt lucky to be seated at the bar counter. It was such an opportunity, especially at ON/OFF! From the bar counter, I can see how the bartender is creating cocktails. He was mixing sprits with precision and detail for each drink, constantly checking aroma and taste. The bartender was also interested in my preference. He was eager to know customer's needs (type of spirit, boozier, sweeter, more citrus, amount of ice etc), and created something that was specially perfect for me. He even showed what he put by pulling out the bottles in front of me behind the counter, and gauged it carefully and put it in my drink. It made me want to learn more about those spirits. He was happy to discuss his craft and share his knowledge. Very stimulating. I enjoyed this interaction only when before this place got busier. Gosh this place was packed - we exited around 9:30 and there were people lining up outside. I was lucky. I felt that this already skilled/experienced bartender was eager to develop creative recipes through the interactions of customers - humble attitude, politeness and creativity - that wes thhe thing I appreciated most. The food was great, too. We had: - Pan fried beef tongue - Deep fried squid I did not expect much when I ordered the food (as my focus was on cocktails) but they were surprisingly good. Came here to try their "Day Menu" from 11am to 6pm. All the main dishes are around $14. We had the Fried chicken omurice and gyudon (beef rice). The Gyudon was kind of disappointing. The beef was very tough and the flavour wasn't anything special. The fried chicken was very crispy, juicy and tastey! The omurice was pretty much just a scrambled egg on fried rice which was pretty comforting. We also had a grapefruit cocktail and mojito. We liked that they weren't loaded with sugar and were quite refreshing. Unfortunately there were A LOT of flies and fruit flies flying around the restaurant from the night prior's sugary beverages. Amazing cocktail bar! Been here a few times for drinks, it's a great spot for cocktails and food! The bar has a dimly lit, neon nightlife vibe. The tables all have mahjong tile lights that illuminate the table softly, but very sufficiently. The vibes are very much that of the big 4 popular Asian bars/clubs downtown, but provide more of an intimate setting to chat with friends or a date. For the ladies: Tuesdays are ladies' night! All cocktails are 50% off, and now appetizers are 50% off as well! The cocktails here are all amazing! They have many classic cocktails, but also a wide menu of their own creations. Every single one of them are delicious but also SOOO pretty--which makes them dangerous. Fair warning that most (if not all) of their house cocktails are sweet--stick to their classics if you are looking for low-sugar options. I was also really impressed by the food here, considering this place is more known as a cocktail bar. The service is a bit slow for food, but if you aren't hungry then it's totally fine. Dined on a Saturday night , restaurant was full. Our drinks came timely with the wasabi octopus. However, the restaurant was busy so we waited a while for the rest of the food. We were sat 7:50 and waited till 8:40 for everything else. They did give us complimentary sunflower seeds to munch on while we waited, and we finished it all lol. The drinks were $15 each, the blue blue sky was good. The food was good as well, the pork tacos and the chicken wings were my favourites. Really impressed! I came here with a friend on a Thursday night and while it was pretty empty at first, the place started getting busy towards the end of the evening. When it comes to izakaya food, I expect that I'll still be somewhat hungry after, but I was pleasantly surprised to be satisfied and pretty stuffed after our visit (we split 4 of their dishes). Season Greeting, My friend recently visited me from Hong Kong and wanted to explore Toronto's night life. Therefore, I searched on Yelp and found this Chinese theme bar. I can really feel the Chinese theme vibe the moment I walked into the bar. Good thing I booked a table ahead of time, as the bar was full after we sat down for five minutes. Cocktails: Since I only been to Whisky bar before in Tokyo and Macau. Therefore, I cannot comment too much regard of their cocktails. We ordered four different cocktails to try. Including Blueberry Sky, Oolong, Seoulaxy, and Yuzu Fine. All cocktails look wonderful and tasted great. My personal favour is the Blueberry Sky cocktail. Food: I am really surprise on how good their food tasted. I am especially impressed with their Typhoon Shelter Chicken Wings. It tasted like Vietnamese style butter fried chicken wings with a lot of red chili peppers on top. Surprisingly, the Typhoon Shelter Chicken Wings does not taste very spicy at all when eating without the red chili peppers and the wings is moist inside. Their Pan-fried Beef Tongue tasted better than many Hong Kong style cafes. The only item I can picky on is their Truffle French Fries, which tasted exactly like McDonald's fries. I've been walking by and bought take out at On/off before but dining in is a total different experience. I can enjoy the cocktail and this time I tried the green dragon. It is a melon flavoured drink. Almost reminds me of a Long Island with green melon. Not too sweet. The highlight was the tofu noodle as it is a cold noodle, just the right level of spice and minced pork with some peanut. This will be perfect for summer and the noodle was not soggy. Came for grand opening. Small place, about 20 seats, which is pretty normal for the area. Didn't see any bar seats but maybe it's not ready or people just stand cause no space for stools. It's got a nice vibe. I don't go to bars often nor do I drink much so that's about all I can say. We had corn cheese pizza, typhoon shelter wings, beef on little skewers and creamy curry udon. Enjoyed everything and it was also reasonably priced! The waitress begins by dropping off a table light in the shape of a mahjong tile at your table since it's too dark to see the menu otherwise. It's a bit gimmicky and not that useful because It doesn't light up the entire table. The cuisine of the menu is broadly "Asian" because it had Japanese, Chinese, and Korean inspired dishes. They have a whole section of Fried Foods on the menu. There is also complementary sunflower seeds given at each table that were sweet not salty. Food 3/5: Food wise it was just ok. Drinks were very expense. Cocktails cost $15 and we weren't even downtown. I thought it was ridiculous. For food we ordered: 1. Taiwanese popcorn chicken [3/5] - hard to mess up fried chicken. It was tasty and it wasn't popcorn sized, but bigger. However, nothing amazingly special. 2. Mustard octopus [2.5/5] - refreshing hit with the mustard / horseradish to cut all the fried food we order but it was really heavy on the mustard and horseradish 3. Udon [4/5] - probably the best thing I ate that night. The dish was plated like it was a sunnyside egg however, it was actually yellow baby tomatoes sitting on a bed of mashed potatoes over the udon noodles. Initially I thought udon (carb) on mashed potatoes (carb) would be a weird combo, but it worked. Udon had nice bounce. I was pleasantly surprised with this dish. 4. Chicken wings [1/5] - way too greasy. The batter was like an english pub style batter for fish and chips except it was on chicken wings and it sucked up so much grease. Additionally, there was zero seasoning on the wing itself. I thought maybe the seasoning was the fried garlic and chilli bits, so I spooned a bunch into my mouth to taste it on it's own as it's basically falls off of the chicken wing tower and it basically tasted like a mouthful of unseasoned grease and oil. Yuck! Was really disappointed because how they plated it like a mountain made me think of the fishman lobster clubhouse plating of the lobster towers. Also tasted like old stock wings. Like chicken was about to go bad so they saved it by deep frying it. 5. Soju - soju is soju anywhere. I initially ordered Plum flavour but they came back and said they ran out. Ended up with mango apple. It wasn't that cold and it cost us $20. Most places charge $18? But I guess inflation? IDK Overall rating 2/5 - would probably not go ever again. Go to MeNami udon & sake bar next door instead for better food, prices, and vibes. read more

I came to On/Off with my friends on a Friday night, it took maybe a few minutes for us to get seated and the place was fairly packed! We sat at the bar while waiting for a table and ordered cocktails. The blueberry sky is amazing, tasted great and looked aesthetic to the brim. For food we ordered the Gyoza, the Typhoon wings, creamy udon and the unagi rice. The Gyoza was very crispy with a chilli oil sauce, and the Typhoon wings were breaded wonderfully. We also enjoyed the udon and felt it was plentiful in terms of portion. The unagi rice was decent and exactly what you'd expect. We also met the owner Gordon who was very pleasant and took a shot with us! Overall a great place to chill and I recommend coming here for food/drinks. Come early as the wait can get f! read more

Such a neat place with lots of unique designs, great music and yummy east asian cuisine, you and your friends will enjoy this place. We got to try: Chefs secret pork taco Chicken wings Guanguan sirloin Creamy curry udon noodle Our favourites were the taco and udon noodles! The taco shells were thin but very crispy and the udon noodles were delicious. The creamy curry texture was . The Guanguan sirloin is sorta like a stew. They've also got a great list of cocktails to try and even offer seasonal drinks. We enjoyed our drinks very much and would definitely recommend them. read more
