We have not been at katsuya in a long time as they close a lot of different locations. So it was nice to see that they were still open, and my girlfriend loves their crab cheese ball. We went around lunch 2 o'clock in the afternoon on a weekday and it was pretty empty. Price is definitely went up. It seems to be a combination of three restaurants that serves Korean fried chicken, Korean pizza and the Katsu. There was staff working, but it was a little hard to get their attention, but they did come check on us from time to time. They did play music, but it was not too loud. We were able to speak pretty easily. Most importantly, the food it tasted the same nothing changed. The portion seems to have gone smaller and the amount of sauce you get seems to be quite minimal. The garlic did taste a little burnt rather than toasted so I left like a bitter aftertaste.
This place is on Yonge street near Centrepoint mall. There are a few parking spots. We got lucky and got the last spot. The place is bigger than I thought. Lots of seats, all booths which is nice. Lots of deals also on the walls for frontline staff like police, firefighters (except nurses, they're "not frontline" enough). They have 13% off for cash pay, so tax free. Service is a bit slow here but it's tolerable. The waitresses are really nice. The Katsuya was honestly SO DELICIOUS! The breading is light and the right crisp. The chicken was also tender, not bad at all. They gave us the wrong wings instead of what we ordered which was the bulgogi wings (forgot to take a pic). We ate one of the wings and the server came back to let us know and took it back. They apologized, brought the right wings, took a while so they said immediately that it's on the house. Very kind of them. One of the wings though wasn't cooked to be honestly... maybe they rushed it? We didn't tell them or take it back, we weren't paying for it. I had food poisoning the night of, felt like vomiting. Regardless I would come back here honestly because the katsuya is just so good. Would like to try other ones or maybe a pizza.
Katsuya - Summer Promo Combos Worth Trying When: Weekday lunch at 1:15 PM (July 2025) Who: Two people Promo: Summer event - up to 50% off select combos ($9.85 each!) Valid Mon-Fri, 12-5 PM at North York location only We tried both summer special combos: 1. Regular Combo - Buckwheat cold noodles + 2 shrimp tempura 2. Loin Katsu Combo - Buckwheat cold noodles + loin katsu Noodles: Fresh and springy, served cold (without ice) in a sweet-and-sour broth that was balanced and flavourful -- great for those who prefer to have cold noddles during summer. For me I feel like my body need hot broth more! Shrimp Tempura: Nicely battered and well-made, though served not piping hot. Dipping sauce for shrimp was a standout! Loin Katsu: Thin-cut, crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and lean -- great if you prefer a lighter cut, but may not satisfy those who enjoy thick, fatty katsu. Katsu Sauce: Delicious and elevated the fried dish -- definitely a highlight. Atmosphere: Casual, clean, and spacious -- two guests could sit comfortably at a 4-person table. Lighting: Adequate for a weekday lunch, no harsh glare. Odor Note: A slightly unpleasant smell noticed upon entry, possibly from cleaning cloths or table wraps. Pricing: Incredible value during promo -- $9.85 per combo is unbeatable for what you get. Overall Value & Tips Worth it? Yes, during the summer promo window. Tip: Go before 5 PM (Mon-Fri only), and visit the North York location -- other branches may not offer the same deal. Best for: Lunch breaks, casual weekday meetups, who are nearby or if you're craving katsu on a budget. Let me know your favorite combo--or if you prefer your katsu fatty or lean!
I used to go to Katsuya every month, but because they closed in Markham, I haven't been able to go. But when I learned that the north York location had free parking, I went immediately. The restaurant is large and roomy with many available booths. All the tables were kept spotless, and the waiter was always ready to assist. In this Katsuya, it was combined with Pizza Mary, giving plenty of options. But this day I ordered the pork loin Cheese Carbonara Pork Loin Katsu, as well as the Cheese Crab Croquette, which was my non negotiable for myself as it was my favourite. Prior to our meals, we were given the complimentary soup. And it hit the put as always. The cheese crab croquette came out first and they were as good as I remember, maybe even better as they put lots of sauce on the top. When the katsu came out, I was a little surprise to see that it was much smaller I remember, with much less sauce. In terms of the flavour it reminded me of their carbonara udon which I enjoyed. Overall, regardless of the size, it was plenty and satisfying.
The portion is huge! The restuarant has a lot of tables but the location parking is quite limited. Based on the two dishes we tried (original katsu and sweet chili katsu), the sweet chili katsu has a good flavour profile with a bit of kick. I do wish they gave more sauce, but they do charge extra if you would like more. The original katsu was alright.
Came for their summer time promo with cold noodles. Nice and refreshing, the katsu is smaller than their regular items paired with rice, but portion was still decent.
Take out the fish katsu and after air frying it, it still tastes good. My best sauce is still red carbonara though
Came here for their 10 year celebration promotion for only limited for a time( check their IG). Admitted my first time here. No lines got there at opening. Staff were friendly. 4 different katsu to try for this promo. Original, Japanese, curry and sweet chili. Came with small bowl of soup and our katsu came quickly. The sesame in a mortar and pestle nice touch but doesn't add much to the food on the original flavor katsu as it gets stuck in the bowl. All katsu came with rice and cabbage and small yellow radish. The katsu was a large portion crispy light the pork was tender could cut with chop sticks ( though I'd prefer an actual knife to cut the bigger pieces). The sauces were nice curry tasted like golden curry cubes, original had a sweeter slight tomato taste to it was very good and the Japanese style all crispy no sauce on top instead had a plum sauce on side. I did find the sauces were good and would prefer it on the side as it would make the katsu soggy. I would recommend and come back to try other items on their menu. Outside there is a small parking area in front of the store fully parked. Large waiting area with some seating. The table closest to front is the windy cold seat as there are no double doors and wind gets pulled in. Booths seat by the window other table and chairs seats. Open kitchen view can see the staff cooking from a far. They also have an "incentive" where if you give 5 star review you can get a free drink this was advertised on the table. This means there could be bias reviews on their Google reviews. Just an FYI.
Friendly service Parking is very limited Ordered the weekday special plus a 10" pizza Weekday special $22.50 for Katsu, udon and Tempura Shrimp and BBQ chicken Korean style pizza Seating is comfortable and restaurant is clean
Decent katsu chain restaurant -- the pork katsu was flaky and crispy, and had good flavor. Definitely not the best but great portions and value. Waitstaff kept on bringing us free appetizers (from cancelled delivery orders?), which was very nice. The kids enjoyed munching on pizza. A casual restaurant experience. Parking is extremely limited, but you can park on the side streets in the residential area.
I originally wanted to come here for my birthday weekend, but unfortunately they do not take reservations on weekends. So I ended up coming here with friends on a Tuesday. The restaurant was pretty empty a 6PM, but the service was quick and efficient. The best thing about the North York location is that you get access to both the Katsuya and Pizza Maru menus in one location. We ordered the following: The Pizza Maru Seafood Bay 16" pizza: This pizza was huge! It had a sweet ranch sauce, cheese. crab meat, shrimp, ham, pineapple, onions, mushroom, bell peppers, corn and sriracha mayo. Overall it was an OK fusion pizza. It was a bit different than what I'm used to since it was sweeter than we thought. 3/5 The Katsuya pork loin Katsu: This is their signature dish, and never a disappointment. The pork was tender and juicy, and was deep fried to absolute perfection! It came with a sesame sauce coleslaw and a side of rice. The Worcestershire sauce was slightly sweet and fruity, which perfectly complements the katsu. All in all, a great experience! 5/5 Highly recommend! The Boneless Chicken Karaage: This was a bit of a disappointment. For the same price as the katsu, it didn't come with any sides and the portion was quite small (1 lb). It was fried in a different batter than the katsu, and was not really crispy. The waiter also forgot to bring the sauce, twice. So we were eating it dry at first. I think that the Karaage is better at other places. I would not order this again. 1/5.
Came here to have the Mala Promo again Nov 18-21! Delicious Carbonara mala pork katsu! My only complain is the rice is tiny! I ended up getting a refill and having my friends review also! The place wasn't that busy, but they did have lots of takeout of order!
I've been a loyal customer to Katsuya and I love their different variations of Katsu as well as the broad range of flavour profiles alongside the sauces. I went in today to grab a special platter for myself to try and I've got to say that I'm very much impressed. The service is an added bonus as the establishment has friendly and hospitable staff that will accommodate to your allergies and try to make your experience the best way they possibly can. Last but not least, most places have loud background music, but this place gets it right with a soft backdrop without it being too overbearing This set included: Japanese Pork Loin Katsu + Deep Fried Shrimp (x2), and a Small Udon + Side Dish

We tried the soba sets here and were completely impressed. The tempura/fried items were crisp and full of flavor, and the soba noodles had a great texture and taste. The absolute highlight was definitely the katsu (pork cutlet)--it was super crispy on the outside, tender, and incredibly delicious! Highly recommended if you're craving a solid katsu and soba meal. read more
The food was good, and portions are super generous. I appreciate how many options and variations there are on the menu. Got the original chicken karaage boneless - I appreciate that it comes with 3 dipping sauces so you can try various flavours and not just stick with 1 flavour like at normal fried chicken restaurants. If you're not in the mood for Katsu, there's other itemskke karaage, baked chicken , rice cakes, or udon. They also serve pizza from Pizza Maru which operates from the same premise. However, the menu was hard to read. The service wasn't super friendly - I almost felt like they were hoping we didn't dine in so they can focus on take out orders. We were the only 2 people that were waiting for their dine in orders and the food felt like it came out slow. The ambiance was quiet. Lots of empty seats. Perhaps it was the day we went, but even if the restaurant isn't busy the atmosphere wasn't as welcoming. Ie, it felt like I wanted to quickly finish eating and leave asap rather than enjoy my meal with my company. Limited parking spaces, but is free. read more

(4.5 rounded up) Food: 5 | Service: 4 | Ambiance: 5 It's been a long time since I last visited this location, and I was pleasantly surprised--it's now renovated and expanded to about twice its original size. Lots of seating is available, including comfortable 4-6 person booths. The only downside is that parking right on Yonge is very limited. The menu has expanded beyond katsu to include pizzas, wings, udon, and tteokbokki. The katsu was excellent with its light, crisp batter, and the special set came with a great variety of sides plus both rice and a small bowl of udon. The pizza and wings were also fantastic--we ordered the half-and-half pizza with the signature shrimbul (highly recommend if you like a little heat) and Korean bulgogi. The wings were flavorful and delicious as well. Service was decent, though we docked half a star because some drinks on the menu weren't available (only 2 out of the 5 beers listed). That said, we still had a great experience overall and will definitely be back! read more

I usually go with the pork loin with cheese katsu but they were having an anniversary deal only on the original pork loin. Although no cheese, the katsu was still super delicious and crispy. The set comes with miso soup, cabbage salad, and rice. The rice is refillable once but the others are unlimited. Sadly due to supply issues there was udon soup/oden soup instead of miso. Still good! I got the sauce on the side and I got their original house sauce because I am not a fan of soggy katsu haha. I can never eat it quick enough for everything to stay crispy! The house sauce has quite a bit of depth and is not one note which I enjoyed. Might like it over the other sauces!! Service was attentive and food came out fairly quickly. We also added a side of takoyaki and they were huge and came out piping hot. There was 1-2 pieces of octopus in each ball and heaps of bonito flakes on top. Overall, it was a delicious meal as always and I'll be back :) read more

Went an hour before closing, and there were only two other tables seated. Ordered a carbonara pork katsu and the snow one. Waited 10 to 15 mins and when the food arrived, we found the sauce-covered half of the katsu to be a bit too soggy. The rest that was uncovered was crispy, but it wasn't hot. I would have preferred a lighter texture as well. Flavour was just ok. Feels like the pork was unseasoned and a bit dry. Size also felt a bit small for the price at $21. The salad was very good though. read more

The restaurant has a new open kitchen design but yet the interior is very run down. The material used to renovate the restaurant was so poor quality that it looks falling apart. The table we seated was very sticky due to the lacquer painted on it. Which felt terrible. The service was very so so, except for offering o take photo of our group, they weren't very attentive. At peak dinner hour, the employees were eating their dinner, food from next door, and eating them next to us. The worst of it has to be the food. I honestly have no idea why this got such a review on Google and on here. This is not authentic Japanese Katsu, then why named it using Japanese name? The method and bread used for frying the cutlet is not the Japanese style. The sauce used is overly thick and sweet. The cutlet is not moist enough and lack of the meat flavor. The karage is not karage, it is just chicken deep fried. The dishes weren't served together. They cooked the udon first, served it first, and while the set has two bowl of soup udon, they were all made at the same time, but these weren't soaked in soup for 10 minutes waiting for the cutlet sets to complete. The result soup udon were horrible with the udon already mushy. The only good thing perhaps is the portion, it was generous. But if I want to eat a lot, I could go to all you and eat buffet. If I want Japanese pork cutlet , I want quality. This is far away from quality. read more

I loved Katsuya when I tried it dining in once or twice, so I had been meaning to order take-out from them after hearing about their offer of 30% off on all pickup orders! I called ahead today (Mother's Day) around 3:30 pm with the intention of picking up my order at 5:00 pm (but they are able to make your order ready within 15 minutes!) I purchased an order of their pork tender with carbonara sauce, and an order of chicken katsu with curry sauce. With 15% tips, I paid about $31 which I would say is a great deal (cause my only criticism of this place since the beginning is that it is a little pricey). Everything was packaged for me with utensils for my pickup as previously mentioned. I really liked the trays that they packaged the food in! Very presentable - the Katsu, rice and salad were in a tray, sauce in a separate foam container, and a miso soup served the same way. Everything was still hot when I came around to eating it about 30-45 minutes later and it all tastes so good! If you've ever wanted to try this place, this is the time! Take advantage of their 30% discount while supporting local! read more

This place is run by Korean and is benchmarked for their varieties of sauces matched with katsu and unlimited refill of miso soup and salad. I saw a lot of good yelp reviews and decided to give it a try. It was a 3 star experience. We came here on a weekend night and waited for a few minutes at the entrance for our table to be cleaned up. They were clearly understaffed. We only saw one waiter running around in the dining area the whole time, although he was quite fast and efficient. We ordered the chicken katsu original and white snow chilli pork katsu. It came with salad, rice and miso soup. You can refill the soup for unlimited times but the rice only once. The rice actually was offered half of the portion compared to other restaurants offering katsu. So it cancelled out the refill part. Did they think rice was too expensive to offer? The flavour of the food now. On one hand, the miso soup and the original katsu sauce was lack of flavour. On the other hand, the White snow chilli sauce was too heavy. That was to say, what they benchmarked for was not good at all. Nevertheless, the thickness of the breading and the deep fried temperature and time control were perfect. The meat tasted pretty tender and cutlets were quite thick. In general, if you happen to be in the area, it is an okay place for a quick lunch or dinner, but it's definitely not worth any travel here. read more

I've been here a couple times. They had/have this promotion for 30% off when you order takeout. My boyfriend and I thought it'd be a great idea to save some money and have a nice picnic. After receiving our food and driving 3min to the local park, the cutlets were already soggy. The packaging is really cute and organized, but you sacrifice quality and texture when you order takeout. The flavour was still amazing but honestly, just pay for the full meal and eat at the restaurant. Katsuya is best eaten fresh. read more

#1 Japanese Katsu This katsu was really soft on the inside. But it was still really crispy. It tastes really good with the sauce as well. #2 Carbonara Udon This one was my our favorite. We have never tried this kind of udon before. It was creamy and a little spicy. It also had a lot in seafood and bacon in it! Overall 9/10! read more
This is my go-to if I'm craving for Japanese curry. You can go for their original flavour or if you feel adventurous they've alot of other sauces you can choose from. My favourite is the Sweet Chili Chicken Katsu. The chicken is fried to perfection and its soo tender. The sauce pairs so well - a little sweet and spicy! I ordered their takeout before which was pretty good for a takeout order. However, having their Katsu dine-in is so much better! Plus, if you dine-in you get to refill your rice and cabbage. Katsuya never let me down when it comes to their food and service! read more
