Bagel Macher 2 Star Review: flavor delivers and the seeds are abundant and great. The bagels are SO HARD and TOUGH to bite into. We have bought them twice. I am so scared I will BREAK my front DENTAL implant and veneers. So I have to CUT them up INTO small pieces for the back of my mouth. The family agrees they are though to bite and chew. Forget about serving them the next day, as they are rock hard. Probably no preservatives and must be consumed immediately. They are also hard to slice with a bread knife. If your not careful you'll need stitches (been there with a bagel before). Guessing either the guys don't know what they are doing, the dough isn't right for bagels or the oven is too hot. Flavor delivers, but they need to fix the outer texture. Pizza Hacker: 4 star review!! Pizzas are very good. Fresh thin and delicious. Haven't had a bad one yet. Meatballs are great too. Kale Cesar is good but way over dressed. Ask for half the dressing. One thing I don't understand is why Pizza Hacker is so much more expensive in Tam Junction than SF? Caeser salad is groosssss. All goopy mayo-y dressing unmixed and globbed over chewy leathery kale. No balance no flavor. Just sloppy goop. Because you order via QR code at table, it's all automated, so I interacted with exactly one person who just brought by food out. Nobody greets, nobody checks on you. Even getting a box is self serve. All that's good except their app still defaults to 20% tip. If you vacate all human interaction, what's the tip for? Pizza was 4 stars tho. I came in tonight with a group of friends and we had an incredible time! There are plenty of tables surrounded by heat lamps and there's even a fire pit we were able to sit around. They are technically two different businesses operating in the same space. One is Pizzahacker (food) and the other is the Junction (booze). Atmosphere: The outdoor area is awesome and very spacious! They have cute string lights, a playground for the kiddos, and plenty of space for multiple parties. I want to say they have room for at least 15 parties of at least 8 with social distancing enforced. Food: I love any spot that offers quality, filling vegan AND non-vegan options under one roof because it means I can dine with my friends at a "normal" restaurant without any compromise. If you're vegan or allergic to dairy, they offer Miyoko's Vegan mozzarella for an additional $3. This isn't a great deal, considering they are very conservative with how much cheese, basil, and sauce was on my Margherita pizza BUT it's my favorite vegan cheese because it's organic and doesn't taste like chemicals. Needless to say it was worth the $22 I paid and I'll definitely be coming back. Drinks: They have a great selection of beer, cider, hard kombucha, and wine. They have a great selection of drinks on draft as well! It sounds extremely sweet and over the top but I tried the Bare Bottle Gelato Kush Hazy IPA and loved it. I'm in the middle of planning my birthday party and I just discovered this place for the very first time a couple of weekends ago and have already decided that this venue is exactly where I want to host my upcoming birthday party for friends and family . The reason for my decision : the ambiance . Feels like a perfect gathering spot. The pizza here is delicious Philadelphia style by a restaurant, called the pizza hacker/and the bar serves wonderful beers on tap. all of this is connected to a large outdoor area. They called a beer garden with Bonnes outdoor fireplaces, scattered about as well as a great playground for children in the very back. if my birthday were in the summer instead of in the winter, I would not even consider renting their private party room, which is large and offers your guess a chance to mingle privately. It isn't hard these days for any restaurant to offer decent gluten-free options. Most pizza places have a gf pie on their menu. It's typically offered in one size only and is more expensive than a regular, but your craving for a legit pizza will still be satisfied. This is NOT the case here. If you order their "gluten-free pizza", be prepared to pay $24 for a tiny rectangle (4" x 6" or so) of focaccia that is 98% bread with the other 2% being an insulting schmear of something resembling pizza toppings on top. I made the mistake of ordering this not once, but twice. Shame on me, but damn, Pizza Hacker - how have you guys gotten this far in the bay area with this embarrassment of a gf "pizza"? Might be time to check out what some of your competitors (Little Star, Pizza Place on Noriega, Presidio Pizza Co, hell, even Good Earth to name a few!) are offering to the gf clientele you're losing. This is a review for the pizza place - we love it! The pizzas are delicious, thin crust, freshly made. Worth mentioning is their salad bowls, so fresh and a wonderful mix of sweet veggies, acidic dressing, and bitter veggies. The atmosphere is super chill - there's outdoor seating that are dog friendly. There's also a little pirate ship play area that are popular with kids. There's a few firepit areas to hang out at as well. The only thing is parking can be difficult especially during dinner time. They have a large parking lot, but it's often filled. After coming here pretty regularly every Sunday for a bagel, I decided a yelp review was in order. I don't know what a classic New York bagel tastes like I presume it's more chewy, but I like Bagel Macher better. The sesame bagel with cream cheese is crunchy on the outside and chewy on the inside. We used to live this place after a hike, but the pizza has fallen off in quality. I thought it just might be me, but our friends who have been coming here, agreed. The pizza was watery and the dough was moist. Also, the snotty kid who took our order was short with us and screwed up the order. The management need to do a better job of teaching the staff the art of hospitality. How hard is it to smile and welcome guests? How hard is it to listen and take an order? Firstly, this place opened during COVID so I get that there were some hic ups, and operations are a little touch and go but I gotta jump to their defense in the face of a few negative reviews. Imagine opening during a pandemic, living through all the closures and touch and go moments, reopening and how difficult that would be on an established business let alone a brand new one. So cut these guys some slack. Secondly and more importantly, the za blows all other za in Mill Valley out of the water by a long shot. No question. Order the Yo Vinny or the Spanish Chorizo pie for epic pies, but a plain margarita will still blow your mind. Outdoor seating is epic. Kids play area is a joy for parents (affectionally known as the SS Superspreader in our house hold). Beer list is, and I cannot emphasize this enough, outstanding. This place is a massive boon to Tam Junction and MV in general. Operational kinks will get straightened out and I am here for them every step along the way with pizza like this. We lost our electricity in the storm and needed some comfort food on a Sunday night. We tried this place shortly after they moved to Mill Valley some time ago. It was pretty good and they were running a little behind so I was able to sample some beers while I waited. Good experience but I hadn't been back since. My wife is a vegetarian so we of course got the Shroom and also Rocket Man. Our daughter was home so thought we should get 2 pies. One probably would have been enough, but now we have some leftovers if the electricity goes out for a third time. I am not a pizza snob, but I am a fanatic. Those 2 pizzas were absolutely fantastic. I could have finished them off but I'll save the experience for breakfast. Im doing a dry January so wasn't able to have beer while waiting this time. TLDR: Good pizza, long wait time (~1 hour) My cousin and I just finished a 6-hour hike through Muir and were starving, looking for some good ol' pizza to enjoy as a post-hike snack. Based on reviews this place offered good food and quick service so we decided to stop by. First flag was that it was busy and I'm not talking a normal lunch rush, I mean 3 large family reunions kids, grammy/granpas, etc. so the thought that we might be a little late on the order crossed my mind. We get a table (outside so a little cold), place our order for one shortstack pizza and wait. 30 mins go by we're still waiting so I go to check on the order. Kitchen was busy, but the staff checks and says 3 more mins so I go back. 15-20 mins later I check again and they can't find the ticket so they reconfirm the order and I go back to the table. 5 mins later, we're getting thirsty so we look around and get ourselves some glasses and a pitcher of water while we wait. Finally, after 1 hour of waiting, a waiter unceremoniously drops off the pizza, no "sorry for the wait" or similar apologies (maybe it's normal when it's that busy, idk; it was my first time there). Pizza tasted great (pic attached to the review) crunchy crust, salty-savory meat, not very cheesy so no cheese pull, but that's fine. All in all, a decent pizza, but not really worth the wait ordering as fine in. I'd suggest going for another place if you're looking for a quick bite, but fine if you're willing to sit and wait. read more
