Coming into Piazza D'Angelo was one of those spur-of-the-moment decisions, where we were hungry and it happened to be close to where we parked at Lytton Square. We didn't check reviews or anything - we just felt like Italian food sounded better than the other options that were within immediate walking distance. We liked it! We were seated right away. The atmosphere was nice and upscale, our server seemed genuinely happy to help us, and the food came out really tasty. I'm no chef or anything, but I kind of feel like Italian food can be easy to screw up sometimes. You know, the pasta might be too tough, or the sauce is too sour, things are underseasoned, whatever. Didn't have to worry about that here. Everything tasted like someone paid careful attention to it. Smooth sauces, well-balanced flavors, tender textures, thoughtful plating. I had the fettuccine bolognase and finished off with a dessert of sorbet. My wife had...some other tasty pasta dish (I forgot the name, but I'll include a photo of it) and the tiramisu. Came here for Mother's Day and everything was phenomenal. The appetizers were honestly the highlight of the meal for me -- especially the tuna tartare, which was absolutely outstanding. For my main, I had the Tortelloni Della Casa, which was light, saucy, and wonderfully creamy. I also loved the potatoes from the Bistecca Di Manzo, it was perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. One thing to note, they do offer bread, but it's not complimentary. They'll ask if you'd like it, so just be aware there's an extra charge. Nice that they ask first, but worth knowing before you say yes! A wonderful spot for a special occasion. The special Market Dinner menu was inventive and showcased the best of early summer - the corn soup and the ricotta pea ravioli were excellent. On the regular menu, my partner enjoyed the Fettuccine Bolognese, and we both loved the garlic bread starter and the smashed roasted potatoes. Service was friendly and professional from the start, with our server checking in just enough to make sure our meal was to our satisfaction. And although we made a reservation for outdoors, we were fortunate with the cool evening to be seated at a cosy window table indoors looking out into the beautiful redwoods across the way in the Depot Plaza. read more

D'Angelos can be nice and it can be horrible. I remember when they had true Italian waiters instead of Mexican ones. I also remember when they used to close at midnight or 1:00 am instead of 8:00 pm! And before you give me crap for mentioning the Mexican waiters, I don't have a problem with them at a Mexican restaurant, but a pride and joy Italian restaurant does not bode well with other nationalities. Furthermore when a Mexican dude arrives at your table at 8:01 to say they closed at 8:00, even though they show online they close at 9:00 that is VERY RUDE! read more

Interesting experience at Piazza D'Angelo. I'm a very long-term resident of Mill Valley, and decided to walk in without reservation for dinner. I was told there were no tables available for outside seating. I walked outside, and called Piazza D'Angelo to book a reservation for an outside table, and they immediately took my reservation. The very same person who denied me a table as a walk-in was obligated to walk me to my table. I've eaten here many times and the food is very good. However, I'm not quite sure how to explain what just happened in terms of seating. I think it's fair to say the service can be spotty at times. read more

Yeah...I wish I had better things to say about this place. I had a realtor, who was hosting an open house for a $3 million listing, recommend this place to me. He is from the Mill Valley area. I took his word for it... I wanted to give my clients a quality Mill Valley dining experience. We ordered the following. 1. Shishito Peppers - the peppers were on the limp side with minimal flavor. We didn't finish this dish. 2. Margherita Pizza - the crust was lacking. I didn't have that, carb organic happy, satisfied eating experience when I finished a bite of the pizza. 3.Gnocchi - this was the best dish of the night for us. The sauce was on point and the consistency of the gnocchi was perfect. 4. Vitella Al Marsala - This dish was solid as well. We definitely finish this dish. The sauce was on the good side. The restaurant is beautiful. The vibe is energetic. And it was packed for dinner on a Saturday night. There's not much to add. However, compared to SF Italian food, this place was on the lacking side for flavor. The cocktails were solid but I found the red wine offers to be a tad substandard for an Italian place. I have always come here for dinner and well a few times in the daytime when the kids were little. I recently met a friend here twice for lunch and they have a great Lunch menu happening during the week and also a different one on the weekend. Starter, main and dessert for such a bargain in such a great location, great food and not too busy & perfect for people watching. Everywhere feels so busy and intense. This vibe is chill and it's perfect for you and your friends & family that are seeking that calm space. Really good food, great service and spacious seating with downtown street views. We couldn't decide between two pizzas, so our server, Christian, suggested the Salsiccia. Loved the thin and crispy crust and simple but tasty toppings (goat cheese, tomatoes, spicy sausage, mozzarella). My husband usually likes more meat on his pizza, but he was satisfied. They added a 4% living wage fee, so with tip, we paid close to $30 for a medium sized pizza. We chose a table outside and enjoyed the fresh air and Sunday vibes. The inside is gorgeous and huge. I just came and ordered two pizzas from this place after not eating here for over eight years. Holy cow this place is gone way down downhill! I'm wondering if the pizza is actually made fresh or if it's frozen. This is basically a cheese pizza and they take a few sprigs of sliced basil and throw it on the top. I would not call this a margarita pizza. The crust is absolutely awful. So sad to see one of my favorite pizza places go downhill to this extreme level. This place is super convenient. It's next to parking and you could easily walk to it. You can't miss this big white building. I love all the windows it has. As you walk in it feels inviting. It's very nice inside. We were seated right away and I requested a table near the window. It wasn't very busy yet, so we had our choice of seats. My friend has been here once before and told me to get the smoke salmon pizza, so I did. We also ordered the avocado toast. In my head I'm thinking, yikes, tons of carbs. But why not? Our view onto the main street was awesome. I love people watching and all the activity going on. It was a beautiful day too. The avocado toast came out first. It was really good. I must warn you that the tomatoes might be a bit too tangy for some as the whole meal had a drizzle of balsamic vinegar. I enjoyed all the flavors together. And then the pizza came out. Thank goodness it was a thin crust because it did not overpower the ingredients. As expected, the smoked salmon was a bit on the salty side, but it was very good. We were stuffed and had no room for dessert. Our waiter was great. He checked on us often. Was pleasant to speak with and answered our questions about venturing in the area. When you walk back to the bathroom, be sure to look up. While walking back there you realize how big this place really is. It's decorated very well. I have been coming to D'Angelo since I was a kindergartener, and unfortunately, it doesn't have nearly the same quality. My food was passable, but on a night where my boyfriend and I were 2 of maybe 15 people, the service was not good and the food came out lukewarm. I was trying to show my boyfriend a restaurant that meant a lot to me, but I was slightly embarrassed after our experience. The interior is still welcoming. I want to write a 5 star review so badly, I have a sentimental attachment to D'Angelo, but I fear that would be misleading. They have some work to do (hiring more/better cooks and staff) but I'm optimistic! read more

Top tier Italian restaurant nestled in the beautiful Mill Valley. The service is excellent, with very attentive, servers and chefs who come out to greet you. There are a classic and seasonal menu, both of which have awesome options that beckoned us back for a second night here! The first dish I tried here was the spaghetti neri, which is black squid ink pasta. This type of pasta is always fun, but it was especially flavorful here, with shrimp and breadcrumbs that added an amazing dimension of texture on top of the savory and sweet flavor of the pasta sauce. We also ordered the carpaccio and the bean salad, both of which were perfectly adequate starters for the main course. My second time coming here, I ordered the butternut squash ravioli from the seasonal menu. With brown butter sauce and pomegranate seeds, it was a sweet tooth dream the fact that the pasta was homemade really came out in this dish, as ravioli tends to be a more doughy pasta shape. It tasted wonderful, with so much depth to the brown butter flavor. I will absolutely be back formore! Or should I say it's really a review of the dining experience that we had tonight. It was clear that the owner was not on premise and my partner I could barely hear each other because the staff was loading dishes loudly behind the bar right near where we were sitting. We came here because it was a two hour wait for Buckeye Roadhouse. It's basic, yet expensive Italian food. Chicken Picatta - good sized portion, my husband loved it. 8/10 Crab Risotto (special) - kind of bland and there was zero crab in it, like none. 2/10 Tortellini- Good not great. 5/10 Pasta with Ragu - Good. 7/10. The desserts were good. Tiramisu and crème brûlée. 8/10 The service was attentive. The waiter brought out a taste of two wines for me to try when I couldn't decide. They have a nice size patio for larger parties as well as a bar to hang for a drink & a bite to eat. Staff was very friendly and not overly attentive which I prefer. The Salsiccia piccante pizza was different, had great flavors of spicy sausage, mozzarella and goat cheese on a thin crust. Deliciously light and pleasing taste. Looking for catering? I cannot emphasize enough how thrilled we were with the buffet and service for our son's wedding reception. Well.. if you want to overpay for ambience and mediocre food, this is the place to go. Unfortunately one of the few restaurants open on Fourth of July. It touts itself as an authentic Italian restaurant but honestly, I have made better pasta at home myself. The burrata cheese was much less creamy and rich than any other burrata I've ever had, and unfortunately, the accoutrements in the dish did not enhance the overall flavor profile. Furthermore, if one glances at previous menu photos on Yelp, they can see that the price used to be $19 but Piazza has increased it to a just about a main course cost of $26. Service was overall quite slow. I get it was the dinner rush but this did not change the fact that, although I took my time (~20min) finishing the anti-pasta burrata , it still took them quite some time before they even took my main course order. I had ordered the fettuccine verde, which was more sour than I would've preferred, overpowering everything else in the dish. Oh, and keep in mind that they do charge 4% on the final bill for everyone due to the employee mandate. My friend recommended this restaurant when I visited Mill Valley, and it was a great dinner selection! They offer a comprehensive drink menu, and they had some tasty beers on draft. We ended up sharing several items including pasta and meet entrees. The Tortelloni della Casa had tender pasta that was not overcooked, and the Polla alla Piccata was also flavorful. Combined, the dishes were a satisfying meal that made me curious to try other parts of their menu. The gelato for dessert was a great way to end the meal. This was a great spot to catch up with a friend, but I could also see it being a wonderful place for a romantic date or a group gathering. Service was efficient and attentive. We were excited to introduce new friends to D'Angelo's and recommended the wonderful lunch specials we'd experienced just a couple of months ago. Everyone in our group ordered the lunch special; three of us had the pasta and one had the fish. The fish was prepared and seasoned beautifully, however the two bolognese pastas were very salty. The wait staff quickly accommodated our request to exchange for the other pasta offering which was properly seasoned and tasty. We were quite surprised and disappointed by the significantly smaller Caesar salad and pasta portions on this visit. Otherwise, great service, ambiance and nice place for lunch. read more
