I find that this mushroom pizza is heavy on that umami mushroom taste. In my opinion, the crust was perfection. After walking around the plaza, I wanted some lunch before heading home, so I decided to try Boca Pizzeria. Unfortunately, I didn't have a great food experience. When I walked in, the host was nice and asked how many were in my party. I told him one, and he seated me in a spot where I could see the TV, which I appreciated. I ordered the short rib pizza and a salad with salmon. Sadly, the pizza didn't taste good. It had almost no flavor. I was hesitant about ordering it but decided to try something different instead of my usual pizza choice. When I took a bite, the cheese and meat slid right off, leaving me with just the bread which was really disappointing. The salmon salad was okay. It came with plenty of vegetables, which I liked, but the salmon had a strange taste. I'm a big fan of salmon, and I was expecting it to be the highlight of the salad, but it just wasn't. I really enjoyed my experience at Boca. We stopped in Corte Madera to get lunch yesterday and my daughter really wanted pizza. I can go on all day about how much I enjoyed my Short rib pizza. This was possibly the best, non-red sauce pizza I've had in a long time. The flavor of the bechamel sauce, carmelized onion and short rib was out of this world. I will say though that if you don't like loads of garlic then this may not be the pizza for you. It feels like there's enough garlic on this pizza to kill a vampire, but I'm not complaining. We also ordered the Mediterranean pizza, which had a much more mild flavor to it. There were a lot of crisp veggies on it with a nice pesto sauce. The lasagna was also really quite excellent with a beefy ragu sauce and also heavy on the garlic. I don't eat out in Marin very often because much of the food scene leaves something to be desired, but Boca is one place that has genuinely made it onto my favorites list. The space is warm, comfortable, and welcoming, with good seating and usually plenty of availability. It's great for groups, works well for all ages, and is a place you can sit and enjoy without feeling rushed. Plus, it's very affordable, which is a big bonus. Appetizers are generally good, but I'd pass on the burrata--it's small and the fruit pairing feels uninspired. It came with fresh tomatoes, slices of baguette toast, some type of pesto garlic aioli, & drizzled olive oil. I spread burrata, aioli, & cut/diced up a tomato and put that last on top of the toast. It was DELICIOUS! I ordered the Organic Beet Salad. This was SO good as well. The beets were large slices. I ended up adding some of the tomatoes from the burrata dish to my salad. Not that it needed it but no one was eating the creamy burrata dish so I just added it for some extra ingredients. It was great. They have a happy hour from 3p-5p. It's about $5 cheaper. Steak was too well done when we actually requested medium rare. Moving on, the chocolate cake was velvety but in my opinion was too rich. A couple scoops and I was done. Tiramisu tasted average (similar profile to store bought). The only things I enjoyed was the pizza, and our burrata tomatoes and bread appetizer. Other than that every other item was unappetizing. Ate here two nights in a row both nights seated at same booth, both night service was mediocre at best, first night had to request a second cocktail ( spicy margarita) tasty drink at $14 each but truthfully while tasty have doubts on how much tequila was used, two drinks and might as well as had ice tea. Fennel sausage pizza was tasty. Chopped salad was tasty as well. But service needs work and cleanliness is an issue. Second night no refills offered on coke and water glass occasionally refilled, service not up to the prices. By eating there twice was able to verify that cleanliness was an issue and not just a one night thing. Only real question on food was the " rustic apple tarts" wasn't rustic at all , tasty but not as described on menu. The parking lot does fill up but there are still a lot of spots so grab one when ya see one. Free parking and we love that! This restaurant has a lovely outdoor area with fire pits that creates a beautiful ambiance. The inside is also lovely and has plenty of space between tables for more intimate conversations that you don't have to yell over others to try and compete with. Our server sat us right away and was super lovely for the evening. As we chatted the night away and bonded over food we were cared for and checked-in on without interrupting. We ordered our food to share because we wanted to try many items. We ordered the garlic flatbread which comes with gooey cheese and fresh garlic with a dipping sauce that was so divine and just the right amount of ooey gooey and powerful garlic. We had to get the truffle mac and cheese that has lemon which helps balance the richness of the sauce, you've got to get this one! The Caesar salad was refreshing and super tasty to balance our carb heavy dinner. Then our main was the short rib pappardelle which was rich, creamy, a nice balance of acidity, and that short rib meat was succulent. It states that it is a spicy creamy-tomato sauce but I didn't taste any heat on it at all. Very tasty but no heat! This is a great place to share dishes and get a wide variety going. Really close to my work so I've stopped by a couple times for drinks and small bites. The location is easy to get to, lots of out door seating and a large dining hall. The staff is nice, but can be a little slow from time to time. The menu is large, and they've got good specials - the cioppino is delicious. The beers are limited, but they've got good choices. We needed an early dinner with our toddler and the people at Boca were so friendly and welcoming. It just helped make dinner more comfortable. They don't have coloring sheets and crayons but the hostess gave us a sheet of paper and a pencil which was enough to keep our 2.5 year old entertained until her dinner arrived. We had the lasagna special, spaghetti and meatballs, and the salmon dinner from the children's menu. Everything was perfectly cooked and presented.
