I usually get here in time for the happy hour which is great. $10 beet salad $10 tzatziki with pita bread and $10 spanakopita. I've only had the rosé which I love but there are other wines on happy hour. And I am a huge fan of the frozen yogurt and fries. I plan to keep coming here for a light snack. read more

I have passed by the restaurant a number of times, putting it on my rotation of places to eat. I was waiting for my husband to finish with his appointment so I ordered the lamb salad at the counter, adding garlic fries on top. So much for my vow to stay low carb. It was mid-afternoon, quiet and warm, so I sat down outside, perfect for people watching. A server brought a large bowl of perfectly dressed greens with chunks of lamb, and a healthy addition of crisp garlic fries. The salad is a generous portion, more than I could eat at one sitting. It started getting to warm outside for me so I moved inside. Hubby finished his appointment and joined up with me, finishing what I could not. We ended with a small bowl of their plain, Greek frozen yogurt. It was perfect, just the right amount of tang. It's tough to assign stars. Service was great and wait time was short. The staff was helpful with my decision making on which meat to order. I got the salad option with pork. The pork was tasty though there was quite a bit of fat. The salad is where I was disappointed. I didn't see anywhere on any menu that it was a kale salad. Had I known I wouldn't have ordered it. Not everyone can eat raw kale and to me a salad is lettuce unless you name it differently, like 'spinach salad' or 'kale salad'. I got the meal to go so didn't realize until I was home. I ended up picking out all the kale, a messy endeavor, and sautéing it until it was well done, then added it back to the salad. Then it was edible. The dressings were so-so, not special. This is my first time actually eating food at Souvla! Usually in SF I just come here for the frozen yogurt. The chicken salad was so refreshing but filling. I'm normally not a fan of salad actually but this was really good! I also really liked the garlic fries, very thick and potato-y. I come here two things. The chicken Salad and the lemon orzo soup. Hands down the most tastiest food I have come across. The chicken in the salad is marinated very well and with the mandarin orange flavor just perfectly blends together. Though it is like a $20 salad. I will eat here everyday if I could. Located in Marin Country Mart in Larkspur, this place serves either a sandwich or salad featuring chicken, beef, lamb, or vegetable (I think what type or where the source is differs periodically...I'm not sure). I chose to get their chicken salad with a side of Greek fries (choice of harissa, garlic, ranch, and other dressings I forgot the name of). For a fast food place, this is pretty good. Flavorful and not dry. You can either eat indoors (music from speakers) or outdoors (fans in case it's a hot day). This time, the chicken served is "Freebird All-Natural Chicken", and it is served with fennel, navel orange, pickled red onions, pea shoots, and Mizithra cheese, with "Granch" dressing". Souvla - or perhaps I should say "Souvla in the City" - never fails me. It's that place that I'm always happy to pop into for a salad or a sea salt and olive oil topped frozen yogurt. I actually find it hard to pass by a Souvla without popping in for the latter. So now there's Souvla in Marin, a place I thought I'd be all over but truth is that I'm rarely-to-never over in this part of Larkspur. I recently made time for a Roast Chicken Salad at the Larkspur Souvla and aside from the fact that the salad would've benefitted from some additional orange slices and that the wait in line to order moved extremely slowly I was pleased with the experience. However, by the time I wanted to follow up my salad with a yogurt for dessert the slow-moving line had grown into such a slog that I couldn't be bothered. The lines at Souvla's San Francisco locations (particularly the Hayes Street outpost) move much more efficiently. It's clear that I like Souvla much more in SF than I do in Larkspur but I still like the place, inefficient lines and all. read more

Okay, so the first time I came here, it was pretty good. I shared the veggie and chicken sandwiches with the wife. Marin has a dearth of Greek joints so we felt this could be a nice, affordable night in Athens for us, perhaps once a month. Next time we went, same order: the food was inedible! Only problem was, we ate it. We vowed to never go here again. Third time we went. Same order. Yes, we were stupid. We wondered if the second time was just an off night. Maybe the main cook had a wedding to attend. Huge mistake. The food was absolutely disgusting. Completely inedible. And yet, we were ridiculous and ate it anyway. Worse yet, after the meal, we were incredibly thirsty! I don't think I've ever been that thirsty in my life. Can you imagine how much sodium they put in their food? Never ever again. I've now eaten at Souvla three times, so I think it's time to do a review. The space is clean, bright, and reminds me of Greece. I love some of their design touches, like the spiggoted water urn. And if you go for lunch, you'll see a wall of chickens cooking on their rottisserie. Everyone orders at the counter, and they then bring your food to your table. Service was very fast each time I visited. The menu doesn't change for lunch or dinner. And the main course options are straightforward. Basically you choose either a sandwich or a bowl, and then one of four items: pork, chicken, lamb, or veg. I've had both the chicken sandwich and bowl, and both were excellent. The chicken was juicy, full of roasted flavor, and offered in large chunks. No one is being miserly with the servings here. But my favorite item is their Avgolemono Soup (Traditional Egg-Lemon Soup with Chicken & Rice). I love it! Definitely make sure someone in your party orders it so you can all have a taste. I've also ordered the Juicy Potatoes a couple of times -- very rich in flavor since these small potato wedges are sitting in rotisserie drippings (along with fresh oregano). So good! To top off the meal, we had their frozen greek yogurt. This is not your fast food style frozen yogurt, but very flavorful, sour, and tangy. You have your choice of toppings... so far we've sampled the Greek Sour Cherry Syrup and the Baklava Crumbles & Honey Syrup. Loved them both. We'll keep coming back! Great to have Souvla move across the Bridge in the Marin area with solid Greek food. When I had Souvla for the first time in SF, I was won over by their solid chicken salad and - more importantly - their frozen Greek yogurt. Therefore, hearing it would be coming across the Bay was welcome news! It was even better since they would be a part of the Larkspur Landing which I already enjoy visiting. The new Souvla is pretty spacious with both indoor and outdoor dining options. On the two recent occasions, I decided to eat inside because it was quite cold. However, for those brave enough to brave the cold, there is some outdoor heating to make eating outside bearable. In terms of the food, I want to say I was a bit mixed but overall thought it was good. Chicken salad (4/5) My favorite of the salads that I tried! I enjoyed the tender chicken pieces that were well seasoned. With the creamy dressing that is balanced by the citrus slices and pickled onions, this one had a little bit of everything. Juicy potatoes (4/5) These potatoes soaked in drippings were oooo so soft and juicy! Each bite was full of flavor with herbal hints oozing in each. If you want an alternative to fries, this is it! Frozen yogurt (4/5) A semi guilty pleasure since at least it is Greek yogurt so at least there is some protein? :D The only reason why I am not giving a higher score is that the yogurt seemed particularly ice-y. I would prefer a little bit more fat to give it a little more creaminess. I really enjoyed the honey topping! Lamb salad (3.5/5) Definitely enjoyed the flavor of the lamb! The combination with the feta cheese and pickled onions are classic. However, I felt the proportions of the meat to everything else could have been better. Pork salad (3.5/5) The pork was well seasoned and tender that paired well with the tomatoes that made this a little unique compared to the other salads. However, it didn't really scream Greek or unique to Souvla to me so probably would skip this next time. Lamb sandwich (3/5) Similar to salad except wrapped in a pita. However, feel like I much rather preferred the salad mainly because the pita bread was not toasty or warm! Think salad is the way to go! In terms of service, you order at the counter and sit down with a number where food comes out pretty quickly. They are also pretty good about coming around to clean up afterwards. For parking, there is generally good amount of parking in the lot, but it can depend on the time of day. Overall, Souvla is a welcome addition to Marin but hope that it makes small changes to make it better! read more

Souvla has moved into Marin, and has already become an anchor store drawing diners to Larkspur Landing. Who can blame the crowds looking for fast casual options in a setting that feels a little closer to fine dining. Their outdoor dining room is spacious and features comfortable seating and overhead heat lamps. (Outdoor dining here is covered, but not weatherproofed.) Souvla has the exact same simple menu as their Hayes Valley flagship: your choice of pita wrap sandwich or enormous greek salad with their Greek-inspired rotisserie chicken, fish, pork or veg. Of coarse they have their parsley and cheese enhanced "Greek" fries and their fro-yo topped with either sour cherries (my favorite), baklava and honey, olive oil, honey or plain. They serve wine, greek beer and various NA beverages including water that you decant at their almost too-pretty water station. The indoor area is nicely appointed. I came midday and was happy to see the normally quiet Larkspur Landing shopping center bustling at lunch. (I did feel a little sorry for Rustic Bakery, which has clearly lost some of their lunch regulars to their shiny new neighbor.) read more

Sooo excited that this establishment has opened in Marin! We came on opening day and I was pleasantly surprised how well everything ran. The food wasn't slow, the staff was attentive and the place was popping! Truly a round of applause to this establishment for no brazen bumbs in the road that every establishment experiences on opening day. The food is good, but not as good as I remember from their SF location. The sandwiches were unbalanced with all the toppings at the front of the sandwich and most of the meat in back middle. But a slight correction in hand fixes this issue. The homemade sauces are all delicious.. the garlic and the red Greek sauce were our favorites. We loved our meal at Souvla tonight. Edwin was patient and helpful with our ordering / making the right call with our side item (juicy potatoes). Standouts - the olive oil that surrounds the rotisserie 1/2 chicken is seriously addictive. I joked to my wife that I wanted to lift up the plate and drink the whole thing. Overall, everything was fresh, flavorful (can never get enough dill), and perfectly cooked. Sasha was also incredibly kind with our frozen yogurt order and accommodated our request to split it into two cups for us. We just moved back to town and planning on making this a weekly dinner spot. Once you sit down service is attentive. The queue is annoying because they only have one operational Register where in reality they should have two or at least allow QR code order to table. We waited for 25 mins at 1:30pm on a Sunday for reference. As with any new restaurant the place has some quirks to work out however, all in all I do recommend. Place has a nice vibe. Rotisserie chicken for two is good. I always get the pork shoulder wrap which is flavorful. Ingredients are fresh and once you order the food comes out in a reasonable time frame. The space feels clean, inviting and modern. Be sure to get the baklava frozen yogurt- probably highlight of any meal here. read more

Due to all Souvlas incredibly delicious food, when they opened in a Larkspur Landing I began a standing DoorDash order of: lamb sandwich, no onions, extra yogurt sauce. Must've ordered 20. Doesn't make sense to go to their sweet little restaurant because there's always a big crowd trying to get in. I hadn't ordered since last summer, so in DoorDash app I chose "last ordered". I wanted to order extra yogurt sauce like I always did, but there wasn't the option. Food came in 40 minutes. Cold dried out sandwich with absolutely no yogurt sauce, but even worse, tons of onions. I really really hate onions, allergic. Meat was tough and cold, and I pictured big Max lined up. The worst part is, the lamb sandwich is a reasonable $16, but with an average tip to DoorDash it was $27!! Money down the drain as I couldn't eat the sandwich. Can't even begin to try to address the issue with DoorDash or the restaurant, everything is obscured. I suppose I could figure it out, but I probably won't bother. I'll hope that another super delicious Middle Eastern restaurant opens up soon . read more

Souvla's problem is, in terms of the food, the whole being less than the sum of the parts. The individual ingredients are of good quality, but the food, by and large, disappoints. There's also a quirky rigidity to Souvla's menu, which I'll explain in a moment. First, the food is kind of greasy. My wife had the chicken sandwich and her pita bread had a curious film of grease on the outside. Similarly, my pork sandwich was also a little on the greasy side. Second, the flavors are kind of lacking. Souvla is supposed to be Greek, or at least Greek-inspired, but it's so highly americanized as to be stripped of the distinctive flavors (lemon, oregano, etc) of the country its supposed to reflect. You're really just eating california cuisine. That would be fine, I suppose, if the flavors were distinct. They are not. The food -- qualify ingredients notwithstanding -- is bland. Third, the biggest disappointment are what the menu terms "Juicy potatoes." It needs to be renamed "potatoes sitting in pool of oil," which won't sell as well, but at least provides an accurate description. Again, greek flavors? No. Grease? Yes. Maybe that's it. It's "Grease" food, not "Greece" food. But... big disappointment on the potatoes. Bland, oily, and lacking in the anticipated flavors. Finally, the menu is foolishly rigid. Seems logical that the options would be salad, sandwich, or a bowl. The same meat that goes into the sandwich ought to be available over rice in a bowl. But, hey, that's their choice. I won't criticize Souvla for the alternate universe of products they aren't selling. However, while the ordering system is awfully solicitous of people's food allergies, should they want to skip dairy or onions or whatnot, you can't swap what kind of meat you want with the various sandwich accoutrements. If you want chicken, you're stuck with the sandwich that comes with the canned mandarin oranges in it (the oranges were not good in a sandwich, btw). So, the ordering system is flexible, but not on the meat, which seems curious to me. Anyway, Souvla is long on hype, but short on delivery. It's bland and there's nothing I've tried there in a few attempts that provide a hook by which to drag me back. "Oh, let's go to Soulvla and eat __ again!" I can't find a single item on the menu that would cause me to say that. Greek food lovers, keep searching. read more

I love Souvla and visit the location in the Marina often. This review is about Larkspur. My favorite thing is the simplicity of salad and I love getting sides of chicken. I'm so glad they're here in Marin. However, ever since they opened, the Larkspur location lacks love and pride in their "work." The side chicken is often too greasy and filled with burnt pieces, sometimes skin and bits of cartilage in it. In this location, they use a LOT of olive oil for the sides of meat -- see photo. The salad was missing the pickled onions, which was a disappointment. There's no place to write preferences online about a particular order. I've spoken to them and they claim they will improve. It has not. I will continue to go because it is overall enjoyable, but I wish for consistency like their counterparts over the bridge in the city! read more

I used to get Souvla a lot in SF so was excited to see this in Marin after a long hike! My favorite thing to order is the chicken salad - it's surprisingly pretty filling. I feel like Souvla has never let me down with the amount of meat they put in the sandwiches and salads. I also love the baklava crumbles and honey syrup frozen greek yogurt. I wish they would do baklava crumbles at the bottom and then the yogurt and more crumble on top rather than just the crumbles on top. Paid $40.00 for a small chicken and tiny side salad. 3 people out front, one young guy slugging down an energy drink. Took over 15 minutes for order and people that came in after us were served first. There were only 3 parties/ already served in the establishment at this time. We were polite.
