Bread Basket with Loafs
James A.

Went to the grocery store to pick up a loaf of bread, wasn't a huge option but someone at the store recommended going to the Rustic Bakery at Larkspur Landing. I went in and the pastries and loafs of bread all looked wonderful. Looking at what people were eating and that looked good as well. The environment was lively and people seem to be enjoying themselves. The loaf of bread turned out great, will come back to try breakfast or lunch as the quality of the food all looks good !

Rustic Bakery is a mainstay for lunch for me. They offer quality pastries, salads, sandwiches and soups - plus wine and to go cookies and salads and juices. They gave multiple locations; my usual spot as in for this review is at Marin Country Mart - Larkspur Landing. I've been coming here for several years. I will say that several years ago, the service was lacking at this location at least -- order mistakes, extended waits -- but happily, this seems to have been corrected as far as I can tell! My several visits in the last few months have been smooth and easy. The team is courteous and accommodating. I feel like in the past they may have been understaffed? In any case, it's a happy improvement. The food is the true star of the show -- with clean, delicious ingredients well composed into yummy dishes. Highlights from my latest visit is the chopped salad -- add chicken for best results! The champagne vinaigrette is a perfect dressing for this yummy - and attractive! - salad. The turkey pesto sandwich is a family favorite also, just the right ingredients. We chose sourdough bread. Inside there is community counter height seating plus some regular bar counter spots by the windows. The environment is clean and comfortable and inviting. Infused water is available. Outside there are multiple picnic tables for relaxed dining in the courtyard of the shopping center. Online ordering ahead is available and pick up is easy. Rustic Bakery satisfies. One tiny quibble - feeding my two children and myself can cost $75+. This seems a little higher than I'd imagine. I'd like to get a little better value. But, for quality food and service - it's a small complaint. If you're looking for good consistent food and a good experience, you'll be satisfied.

Visited the Marin county today to do some last minute Christmas shopping, and decided to stop by rustic bakery. I've seen their crackers but never been to their actual bakery before, so this was my first time! There were a bunch of people, and the vibes were great! So many people sitting inside and outside with their food. It took us a minute to figure out what we wanted to try, since there were so many options. We ended up getting a few items to try: 1. Pain Au Raisin - a tonnn of raisins! def for the cinnamon n raisins lover aka me! I enjoyed this pastry, but wish I had it warm. I believe it would've tasted better warm. 6/10 2. Chicken Salad - DELICIOUS! Great balance of flavors! I love that they include apple in it. 10/10 3. Baguette - it was a bit hard from sitting out. I wouldn't say this is the best baguette I've ever had, but it's decent. It paired with the chicken salad perfectly 7/10 4. Cheddar Scallion Scone - same as the Pain Au Raisin: wish we were able to get it warmed up. It would've tasted better warm. Need a bit more scallion for a better balance in taste. 4/10 5. Flourless double chocolate cookie: SOOOOO YUMMMY! It was incredibly chewy! So if you like chewy cookies, this one is for you! Overall, experience was great! Only wished we had the choice to warm some pastries up, but beside that, everything else was fantastic.

Really yummy soups, salads, sandwiches, and pastries. We ate here on a chilly Sunday afternoon. We enjoyed soup, a premade sandwich, beer, and blueberry muffin. I would give it five stars if the soup wasn't burning hot and salty. Tip- ask for the soup to not be so hot.

Rustic Bakery gets pretty busy during farmer's market days. Luckily we found seats outside by the bike rack. It is the type of restaurant where you order at the counter and they give you a number to put on your table. We ordered a couple of sandwiches, a Caesar salad and some pastries. Everything tasted OK. Nothing stood out as extraordinary.

Stumbled upon the cutest bakery in Larkspur during our stop to the SF ferry. I had the avocado toast and sipped on espresso. I also ordered a fig and Brie sandwich to go! The service was over the top fabulous, the decor screamed fancy beach, and the atmosphere was welcoming and fun. Absolutely one of my new favs in larkspur. Note: Dog friendly.

Location, ambiance, and service is lovely. The sandwich, was just okay :/ Bread was really hard and tasted slightly stale, and the aioli was very strong and lots of it. Overall I'd go back.

The staff is really nice and the bakery is in a cute location. The food/drink is okay nothing spectacular, but if you're in the area it's worth a try!

I normally love Rustic Bakery but this location needs some work. The location itself is prime and it is clean and new. I ordered online a bunch of parties to bring to work right at opening. I appreciate that they open early. Ordering online was no issue (ordering the night before when the store was closed). I walked into the store and it's run by a bunch of high school students and they're loud and talking among themselves which is totally fine. I don't have an issue with it but just odd there's no acknowledgement. I asked if I can pick up my order and it was prepared and ready for me at the counter. However after opening the box, the pasties were cold and not fresh. The pastries have essentially no filling (as seen in the photo). The order was also wrong. I ordered a Meyer lemon croissant and I got a chocolate one instead. Overall, I'm disappointed since Rustic Bakery normally makes really good stuff and have been reliably good however this location in particular is a flop. Not the best service, pastries aren't fresh, wrong menu items. There are other options near by that are way better.

We stop at Rustic on the way to Muir Woods. We enjoyed coffee and some bakery. I loved their almond croissant. We also ordered Granola&fruits, lemon croissant which were good. One friend ordered bread pudding croissant. She says they warmed up little too much. Make sure you ask them not warm up too much. Outdoor sitting available. We enjoyed overall

Rustic bakery in Larksburg, California is a awesome local bakery serving delicious soup, salads, and sandwiches. Services friendly, but the food can take a little bit to come out sometimes which is understood since it is not exactly a quick service café. I thought the orange almond oil cake was really yummy but kind of heavy, but the avocado toast was delicious. The café patio is perched on an overlook where you could see the surrounding hills and the Golden Gate Bridge peeking over the clouds. Rustic is a great place to grab breakfast or lunch and relax in the foothills to the Marin headlands

Cute place with wonderful outdoor seating.

Staff are very friendly and patient! We came on a Thursday for lunch, and to my surprise, you can order from the breakfast menu all day. So I got a delicious breakfast burrito. This is one of my favs that I've had for several reasons: love the whole wheat tortilla, the scrambled eggs were perfectly fluffy, the bits of ham/bacon added tons of flavor, and the potatoes were cooked just right (toasty and cut small). Also loved the pico de gallo that came with. My spousal unit enjoyed his grilled cheese with added bacon and the mixed greens that came with. Only downside is that they don't offer Diet Coke - it was a different brand I'm not familiar with, and it had a terrible aftertaste. I ended up only drinking two sips. Looooved the outdoor seating!

Veggie Quiche & 1/2 and almond croissant
Joyce D.

A friend highly recommended Rustic Bakery, so when I found myself in Larkspur, I made a point to stop by for a quick breakfast and I'm glad I did. I tried the spinach/veggie quiche and an almond croissant. The quiche was warm, flavorful, and had a perfectly flaky crust...definitely a solid choice. The almond croissant was huge and loaded with almonds, which I loved, but it was a bit dry and cold. I wish I had asked to have it warmed up, I'm sure it would have taken it to the next level. The space itself is clean and bright, and the staff were friendly even during the morning rush. It was clearly a popular time, with a line out the door and every table filled. I also got a plain black coffee (nothing mind-blowing) but it paired well with the croissant and did the job. Everything I saw being brought out looked delicious, so I'll definitely be back to try more from the menu. Rustic Bakery seems like a great spot for a relaxed, high-quality bite...just maybe not during peak hours if you're in a hurry!

The Castro location is beautiful with its clean, ocean-blue French decor and relaxing, cozy vibe. It is always busy on the weekend, but the quality makes it worth the wait. Everything I have tried there is top-notch, from the perfect croissants and lattes to the savory mushroom crepes, French onion soup, and grilled tuna sandwich. The Larkspur location in the Marin Country Mart has a slightly different, less urban feel that I really enjoy. It feels a bit more intimate, cozy and has a much bigger outside seating area. It seems to have an even wider selection of great entrees. Whether you are grabbing a quick salad or sitting down for a full meal, both locations offer an authentic French experience that is hard to beat. Highly recommended.

As I waited inside I admired their beautiful decor (especially that green wall!), and peeped all the equally-beautiful pastries on display. Oh la la! It took all my post-Thanksgiving self-control to resist a sweet treat (next time!). I satisfied my craving with a hot latte. I ordered and paid at the counter/register and was greeted with a lovely French accent. I assumed that my order would take awhile given the bustling crowd inside and outside. But it was ready within minutes - a hot, smooth latte hit the spot and powered me for the remaining drive north. Le Marais is easy to find at the far end of the Marin Country Mart - abundant parking is all around. Before I got back in the car, I took a quick walk through the shopping center. A must-stop if you're in the area, whether you need to shop, to eat, or to simply grab a drink. So charming and can't wait to return!

Ordered the Croque Monsieur with side salad and a Maison Perrier sparkling water. This is a proper French-style Croque Monsieur executed beautifully. House-made pain de mie toasted to golden perfection with crisp edges, quality ham, plenty of melted aged Comté and Gruyère, and a light touch of béchamel that binds everything without any heavy, saucy overload (I didn't even spot a thick layer in the cross-section, but the rich, nutty flavor came through perfectly). It arrived piping hot, which made all the difference -- gooey cheese and satisfying crunch throughout. Flavor-wise, it tasted more authentic than most versions I've tried elsewhere in the U.S.: balanced, comforting, and not greasy at all. The simple mixed greens salad on the side kept it fresh and prevented it from feeling too rich. Paired with the crisp sparkling water, it was an ideal light-but-satisfying lunch. The only non-authentic thing? The size -- I've never seen a Croque Monsieur this large! It's generous (in true California fashion), but everything held up well without getting soggy or overwhelming. The outdoor setting is pleasant -- brick pavement, dappled sunlight, relaxed vibe. Their bread and pastries clearly shine here, and this savory dish holds its own. Highly recommend if you're craving a genuine French bistro classic in Marin. I'll definitely be back -- probably for one of their famous croissants or a crêpe next time.

O R D E R **rating knocked down because everything was cold and tasted like left overs** Roasted Asparagus $8.00 (3.5/5) -- First off all, this would taste so amazing if it was hot and toasty. HOWEVER, they do not remove the tough end of the asparagus so I felt like I was chewing through rubber. There's street parking, but we parked across the street in the lot by the music shop (it's closed on weekends, which makes it even easier). Zero stress before carbs -- we love to see it. It has that super local, neighborhood energy where everyone clearly knows exactly what they're ordering before they even walk in. Always a good sign. The bread basket? Unreal. The soup was divine -- comforting, flavorful, and exactly what you want on a cozy day. And the bread somehow manages to feel indulgent and wholesome at the same time. Warm, hearty, and clearly made with care. The space itself is just as inviting -- warm, relaxed, and effortlessly charming. And the pastries... they looked dangerous in the best way. My "Soft Scramble" was a pile of astonishment. It was so unrefined that it was an insult the the ingredients. There was nothing soft about the eggs, they were overcooked. The only thing soft on the plate was the watery run-off from the vegetables they heaped into the eggs: Too many chewy mushrooms and HUGE. Too many cherry tomatoes. I had to dig to find the eggs. The leeks were strips of inedible ribbon. The toast? I think it had been toasted yesterday and left on the top of their oven overnight and then reused today. I had to get up from the table and ask for butter to make it edible and still I worried whether I was going to break a crown. The pickled vegetables? Again, HUGE, hard and barely pickled. I will refrain from criticizing the service because they are all unaware of the nightmare in which they are working. Bless their hearts. I was so sad and annoyed. People think they can buy a restaurant with recipes and wholesale accounts and staff and just run it, "business as usual" but they are wrong. I went in and asked if they had sold the restaurant and was told, "yes." I imagine some tech-bro's wife or some hedgefund community doodler wanted a pet project with zero idea about food or food quality or how to treat and retain employees because what happened to MHBB is astonishing. It's rude and insulting to anyone who opened this restaurant and put in their best to keep the name and claim to be catering to the same people. But then again, this is par for the course or, from my vantage point, everything wrong with what's happened in Marin in a nutshell. Faux authenticity. Zero care. This is now all about the money. I will never bother with it again.
