The Aroma has been a favored meeting place for friends as well. WOW what a gem in San Rafael. This was probably one of the best breakfast wraps I've ever had. I think it was because the avocado was layered with the egg and salsa. I would come back just for this wrap lol. The smoothie was not too sweet which is good, but I wouldn't get it again. It was a cool spot to just hang out with beautiful paintings from local artists. I would truly give this place a 3.5. We've lived by this place for years and we've never tried it, which is a shame. The coffee is great and the prices are comparable to a Starbucks. We wanted to try the food, but opted not to due to their prices (we walked down the street for another establishment). Someone ordered an Italian soda while there and it also looked delicious. The service was great! Staff were friendly! They do offer a Daily Happy Hour and I may return for a Happy Hour stop to try their food in the future, since the prices are decent during that time. There are quite a few cafe choices with many different vibes in the San Raphael area, but Aroma Cafe is one of my favorites! Their baristas not only make great drinks they're also very consistent so you know what you're getting and you can see the pride taken in their Java stylings (the presentation matches the taste!) I haven't had their food yet but I'm guilty of eye hustling other people's plates. When I'm out this way I'm usually here for my favorite wrap spot down the street but one day soon I'll try one of the panini offerings (Did I mention they have a happy hour menu?!) Aroma is more than a cafe, it's inviting, modern, trendy and you can feel the focus on community! It's very spacious and there's always local artist works on display. I personally go for the white mocha's (of course) and the blanc brownies (which seems to be a running theme for me!) This café has it all. It's ideal for breakfast, lunch, dinner, afternoon coffee break, glass of wine, meeting with friends, or to study. It's one of the only places that I know in Marin that is open late (8:30pm) though before Covid it was open even later. There is ample seating, and I always like to get a seat by the window that looks out onto busy 4th street. The food selection is vast from breakfasts, salads, wraps, sandwiches, soups, coffee drinks, beer and wine, smoothies, and middle eastern fare. I'd recommend the couscous stew which was filling and flavorful, good on a cold day. I wouldn't recommend the Aroma classic mini pizza as I thought the gorgonzola cheese was too strong for pizza. read more

Went to this place to study once and think it's safe to say that it became a regular spot for me. While it's a tad pricey, I would order my go-tos (vanilla latte & their Hungarian coffee cake) as a motivational treat! Aroma has plenty of table space and charging ports for those who may be worried about getting a good spot to study in. I recommend trying this place out, they also have a full menu (though I haven't been able to get myself to try anything but their Hungarian coffee cake). This coffee shop is near where I live, that's why I went there. Not anymore. Went in there Friday afternoon. The price is often different depending on which person rings you up. Younger guy helped me has a major attitude. I asked him if the price had gone up being that this was the most anyone had charged me ever. Instead of explaining he became confrontational. This guy has no business being in any Customer Service role whatsoever. Some of the people are OK that work there but there's a couple that are just complete assholes. My money is better spent elsewhere. Don't patronize a business who doesn't appreciate their customers and treat them like crap. I give them zero stars if that was a possibility. There's another café, just a couple doors west of them (Sana Cafe) they know how to treat their customers and their coffee is really good! A long time staple in Marin. Everyone who's been here awhile knows where Aroma is. Before and after a movie (next door at The Rafael), casual food, beer, wine, coffee early and late, Aroma is reliable and good. I think the crew has been here a long time. Vince is at times happy and helpful and grumpy others. But who wouldn't be?!? They deal with a lot of public here who can be in a rush and not too patient. Tuna melt, avocado beet salad, affogato (more like a coffee milkshake bc there was a lot of ice cream) are favorites of mine. They also have Greek chicken lemon soup and always a vegan soup. Used to come here all the time as a college kid. I would say that it seems... basically unchanged in the last 15 years, with the exception of the attendant price increases over that stretch, and they now have a requested two-hour time limit for patrons--this seems a little silly for a cafe of this generous size, I will say, but whatever. But the food I've had there the last couple weeks has been... just pretty far below the standard I would expect to be served at a large cafe right on 4th street. Attached is a picture of the "avocado toast with scrambled egg" I ordered today, more than $11 after tax and even more when factoring in a tip. I just don't think this is acceptable quality. The avocado had that slight tang to it that you get with pre-mashed paste out of a tub, rather than fresh avocado, and the "scrambled egg" was a rubbery puck that looked like it'd been stuck in a microwave for a minute and pulled out. I haven't tried the higher end of their menu (I recall the caprese being pretty good several years back) but I can't in good conscience give a great review when I'm shelling out more than $13, tip included, for this. The same price would get me actual quality avocado toast, on rustic bread and even with salad greens and a poached egg, at countless other spots in Marin. Coffee was fine though, and it's a good space to work, although as mentioned they have a sign up urging you not spend more than two hours there. If I have a better experience with food quality there in the future I'll update my review, but as of now, it is what it is. read more

Dining room is massive and well kept with plenty of seating, although, I come here when it's pretty tame and not sure what the morning rush is like or even if they have one. My favorite things to get are the smoked turkey sandwich (if youre doing the sandwich and a side salad you have to try their lemon garlic olive oil dressing) and the iced white mocha latte with oat milk. The service here is pretty good and they're nice but overall was not satisfied with my drink.
