If you're looking for a nice, casual place that for lunch, then Aroma Cafe is the place. They offer a variety of sandwiches, salad, and beverages (including wine). WOW what a gem in San Rafael. This was probably one of the best breakfast wraps I've ever had. I think it was because the avocado was layered with the egg and salsa. I would come back just for this wrap lol. The smoothie was not too sweet which is good, but I wouldn't get it again. It was a cool spot to just hang out with beautiful paintings from local artists. When I'm in the area for breakfast, I'd stop by this spot again! read more

Aroma Cafe - Best Breakfast Wrap I've ever had - Coffee & Tea Near Me - San Rafael, California

We had a good experience for our first time here. Great and friendly service. Lots of menu selections. We ordered avocado toast and a ham and cheese croissant. A smoothie and an iced latte. We sat outside in their outdoor area and enjoyed the sun. We will go back! Sorry for the bad lighting in the photos. We were outside under the umbrella. read more

I would truly give this place a 3.5. We've lived by this place for years and we've never tried it, which is a shame. The coffee is great and the prices are comparable to a Starbucks. We wanted to try the food, but opted not to due to their prices (we walked down the street for another establishment). Someone ordered an Italian soda while there and it also looked delicious. The service was great! Staff were friendly! They do offer a Daily Happy Hour and I may return for a Happy Hour stop to try their food in the future, since the prices are decent during that time. Their establishment is quite large and looks like a great coffee shop to meet with friends. read more

Love their cappuccinos and their lavender cookies :) Their hot sandwiches are on point :) and yummy Only thing I don't like it's getting large coffee on large glass it gets hot and kinda impossible to grab . Literally Not a cool idea serving it on large glass. Always treated nice ands that's enough reason to come back . Quiet and relaxing read more

I had lunch today at a place I've enjoyed many times before, but unfortunately, this visit was a real letdown. The beet and avocado salad, which is usually fantastic, fell flat -- much more lettuce than beets I've come to expect. We also ordered the grilled mixed veggie sandwich, and to be honest, it was just okay. Maybe it was an off day, but I left feeling uncertain if I'll be back agai read more

Aroma Cafe - Coffee & Tea Near Me - San Rafael, California

There are quite a few cafe choices with many different vibes in the San Raphael area, but Aroma Cafe is one of my favorites! Their baristas not only make great drinks they're also very consistent so you know what you're getting and you can see the pride taken in their Java stylings (the presentation matches the taste!) I haven't had their food yet but I'm guilty of eye hustling other people's plates. When I'm out this way I'm usually here for my favorite wrap spot down the street but one day soon I'll try one of the panini offerings (Did I mention they have a happy hour menu?!) Aroma is more than a cafe, it's inviting, modern, trendy and you can feel the focus on community! It's very spacious and there's always local artist works on display. I personally go for the white mocha's (of course) and the blanc brownies (which seems to be a running theme for me!) I honestly can't imagine coming out this way and not getting something even if I don't plan on staying to enjoy my drink! Do yourself a favor and check this one out for yourself! You're welcome in advance! J read more

This is a great lunch spot or anytime spot! We dropped in on a visit to San Rafael looking for an easy and delicious bite to eat. We ordered at the counter and received a buzzer once our whole order was complete. They have breakfast and lunch items, desserts (The carrot cake from Woodbine was delicious!) so many choices! I had the soup of the day and was very impressed. The location is easy to find, the interior is spacious, the staff was very nice. read more

I love coming to this place. The only thing I dislike is they charge you like $2.50 to refill your coffee. I think they could at least fill your cup one time considering the amount of money I spend there all the time. ‍ read more

A comfortable spot on 4th St. in San Rafael to hang out with their rich, dark coffee or the tea of your choice, a pastry or light breakfast and the morning paper. The Aroma has been a favored meeting place for friends as well. Perhaps also importantly, the restrooms are well maintained and I don't think anyone has ever been asked to leave for hanging out there too long. If you've never stopped in there, it's well worth a try. Many locals swear by it - and for good reason! read more

Unbeknownst to us the inside of the cafe was being renovated so unfortunately it was very loud and disruptive. Besides that service and tea was very good. I hear great things about this place so I'm looking forward to trying it again in the future. read more

This café has it all. It's ideal for breakfast, lunch, dinner, afternoon coffee break, glass of wine, meeting with friends, or to study. It's one of the only places that I know in Marin that is open late (8:30pm) though before Covid it was open even later. There is ample seating, and I always like to get a seat by the window that looks out onto busy 4th street. The food selection is vast from breakfasts, salads, wraps, sandwiches, soups, coffee drinks, beer and wine, smoothies, and middle eastern fare. I'd recommend the couscous stew which was filling and flavorful, good on a cold day. I wouldn't recommend the Aroma classic mini pizza as I thought the gorgonzola cheese was too strong for pizza. read more

UNSANITARY!!!! I'm truly shocked. None of the workers had gloves on while handling the food and making the juices. I can't stand places like this it's so disgusting. And they're literally touching anything and everything without even washing their hands in between. read more

Nice atmosphere, good seating. I ordered the avocado toast with scrambled egg for about $13. When I went to pick it up, I was stunned at how lame it looked. 2 slices of bread from a grocery store, with a smear of what looked and tasted like guacamole from Safeway, with scrambled eggs on one slice, that tasted like it was from a premixed batch of eggs. Pathetic and way overpriced. Wow. read more

Love this place, OG cafe on 4th street in downtown San Rafael. Food and drinks are made with love. The ambiance is perfect for students and locals. Had the chicken lemon rice soup ( a friend was buying) and there was nothing Greek about it. It was just chicken soup. We were hungry so we went to il Davide and had a delicious meal. Went to this place to study once and think it's safe to say that it became a regular spot for me. While it's a tad pricey, I would order my go-tos (vanilla latte & their Hungarian coffee cake) as a motivational treat! Aroma has plenty of table space and charging ports for those who may be worried about getting a good spot to study in. I recommend trying this place out, they also have a full menu (though I haven't been able to get myself to try anything but their Hungarian coffee cake). The baristas & staff are all very welcoming and kind, even offering to watch over my electronics while on their lunch so that I could quickly move my car to avoid a ticket. read more

A long time staple in Marin. Everyone who's been here awhile knows where Aroma is. Before and after a movie (next door at The Rafael), casual food, beer, wine, coffee early and late, Aroma is reliable and good. I think the crew has been here a long time. Vince is at times happy and helpful and grumpy others. But who wouldn't be?!? They deal with a lot of public here who can be in a rush and not too patient. Tuna melt, avocado beet salad, affogato (more like a coffee milkshake bc there was a lot of ice cream) are favorites of mine. They also have Greek chicken lemon soup and always a vegan soup. Many plant based options. Thank you Aroma for staying with us! read more

Used to come here all the time as a college kid. I would say that it seems... basically unchanged in the last 15 years, with the exception of the attendant price increases over that stretch, and they now have a requested two-hour time limit for patrons--this seems a little silly for a cafe of this generous size, I will say, but whatever. But the food I've had there the last couple weeks has been... just pretty far below the standard I would expect to be served at a large cafe right on 4th street. Attached is a picture of the "avocado toast with scrambled egg" I ordered today, more than $11 after tax and even more when factoring in a tip. I just don't think this is acceptable quality. The avocado had that slight tang to it that you get with pre-mashed paste out of a tub, rather than fresh avocado, and the "scrambled egg" was a rubbery puck that looked like it'd been stuck in a microwave for a minute and pulled out. I haven't tried the higher end of their menu (I recall the caprese being pretty good several years back) but I can't in good conscience give a great review when I'm shelling out more than $13, tip included, for this. The same price would get me actual quality avocado toast, on rustic bread and even with salad greens and a poached egg, at countless other spots in Marin. Coffee was fine though, and it's a good space to work, although as mentioned they have a sign up urging you not spend more than two hours there. If I have a better experience with food quality there in the future I'll update my review, but as of now, it is what it is. read more

This coffee shop is near where I live, that's why I went there. Not anymore. Went in there Friday afternoon. The price is often different depending on which person rings you up. Younger guy helped me has a major attitude. I asked him if the price had gone up being that this was the most anyone had charged me ever. Instead of explaining he became confrontational. This guy has no business being in any Customer Service role whatsoever. Some of the people are OK that work there but there's a couple that are just complete assholes. My money is better spent elsewhere. Don't patronize a business who doesn't appreciate their customers and treat them like crap. I give them zero stars if that was a possibility. There's another café, just a couple doors west of them (Sana Cafe) they know how to treat their customers and their coffee is really good! Bye-bye, aroma you're not getting any more of my money. read more

I've frequented this spot for twenty years and it's always been a wonderful place to grab coffee or a quick lunch.

The tuna melt was delish. I shared it with my mom and it was enough for both of us. I wasn't able to take pictures because it was closing soon. Mom said the coffee was really good. The cafe was clean and well lit. The staff were friendly. read more

The best fattoush salad by far! The service was efficient and the atmosphere was great.

Ordered off the menu. Egg scramble. With WW toast. Received two eggs over easy with white toast. Sent it back. 2nd attempt: received a scrambled egg with a funky urban spice sprinkled on top of it along with a multigrain toast. So we got closer but still nowhere near what I actually ordered. At this point I surrendered. read more

Came here for breakfast with a couple of friends and my husband. The place is quite spacious, tons of seating. I ended up getting the Bagel and Lox [$12.50], comes with capers. A lot of indoor/ outdoor seating and a nice welcoming environment. I think the space could use some color! Add plants, book wall, or something unique that catches the eye. I think it could use some more comfortable seating areas like large beanbags or big couches or something cool rather than just your standard table and chairs. Coffee shops are getting very creative around here! They have a lot of potential for upgrades in such a large space (: The drinks were good, a lot of selection for food and other beverages. The service here is pretty good and they're nice but overall was not satisfied with my drink. I come here for the Turkish coffee and will normally get a snack along with it. The place has this typical pleasantly appealing neighborhood coffee shop vibe. Dining room is massive and well kept with plenty of seating, although, I come here when it's pretty tame and not sure what the morning rush is like or even if they have one. The coffee I get is really good and the staff is really friendly too.
