Quaint little coffee shop
Holly W.

Happened to stumble upon Coffee Roastery in Fairfax on our way to Cataract Falls for an early morning hike. Such a charming little corner spot in the heart of downtown! We stopped in around 7 AM and were pleasantly surprised to find a local musician performing--gave the place a cozy, old-world feel. The interior had a warm, inviting vibe, perfect for a slow morning. I didn't grab coffee since we were heading out for a hike, but a couple of my friends got pastries and enjoyed them. Unfortunately, the gluten-free selection was very limited--just a nut bar--so I wasn't able to try anything. Would love to see more GF options in the future! Otherwise, a delightful little spot to start the morning.

I really loved the roastery's location and the interior decor. If you are a coffee fan, you simply are attracted to it by its nameboard on the outside. Once you step in you get immersed in this quaint old building with vintage menus and seating arrangements. I really loved my cappuccino- as the coffee had a great flavour and it was dark roasted as per my liking. Although I would say stay away from desserts, as I tried a almond crossaint but was severely underwhelmed by it- it was really spongy and kinda had no crispness to it and probably it was aerated for quite a long time The people serving food and drinks are very warm and welcoming and I had no complaints there!

This place is definitely a happening place for a coffee shop one of the oldest ones in the area and first sip of the coffee definitely blew our mind. Very delicious and very smooth. This is definitely a happening place in Fairfax. They're super fast with their service as well. Clean and welcoming.

My partner and I were in the area and decided to stop at the Coffee Roastery for a quick pit stop. You can never go wrong with coffee especially if the coffee shop has pastries so I was very excited to see that their display cases were packed full of options. Parking is all along the streets, no meter and no payment necessary. We parked a block away and took a nice stroll over. I will say, it seems very packed on the weekend even around 3pm in the afternoon so not sure what the right time is to beat the rush. I opted for their black & white and a blueberry coffee crumble cake. While the drink tasted pretty standard, the star of my time here was the blueberry coffee crumble cake. It was unbelievably moist and packed full of flavor and I would get it again.

If you've spent the morning in Point Reyes and find yourself in need of a caffeine fix on your way back to urbania, you may want to consider making a stop in Fairfax where there's a plethora of sustenance options. I don't know what constitutes a 'plethora', but there was a lot to consider once you park in the busy public lot. I wasn't feeling complicated. I just wanted coffee. I entered the rather ornate premises and ordered the $4 Large Cafe au Lait (photo: https://bit.ly/3V70iVR). It was quite pleasant even though there was no place to sit to enjoy the dancing maidens in the trompe l'oeil. I strolled out to discover Fairfax in about ten minutes. COFFEE - 4 stars...nice and smooth AMBIANCE - 3.5 stars...the dancing maidens were a nice touch SERVICE - 3.5 stars...pretty hectic when I arrived TOTAL - 4 stars...a good caffeine pick-me-up in Fairfax RELATED - Exploring north of San Francisco? This quaint -hippie- modern coffee shop is too cute! Last time I was here there was a musician playing, and I love their organic coffee options! I was the first costumer in line and the Barista was very patient with me, since I can never figure out what I want to drink and I ended up getting a specialty espresso drink. Hee. Plus all their sweets and even gluten free items. Hee. I always stop by here when I'm in the area.

The iced maple latte was very good, you could actually taste the maple without it being overly sweet! Nice location and fast service on a Sunday.

refreshing frappe and a hot Mexican mocha

After hiking the Cataract trail on Mt Temalpais we needed somewhere quiet to catch our breath. We stumbled back into town and headed for TCR. Street side parking is free up to 2 hours too. The space is small and quaint and gives that small hometown feel. In the main dining area there are tables for coffee dates or and a row of bar seats to perch yourself by a window + a few secluded seats by the side exit door. Be ready to really read the menu above the baristas, there are so many yummy concoctions, in addition to a descriptive roadmap of roasts of their coffees. If you're a coffee connoisseur, I'd suggest you take a seat and a big breath in to delight your ol' factory bulbs. You can never go wrong with just a coffee black but if you have more than 5 minute, order yourself a Mexican mocha; you won't regret it!

There's street parking, but we parked across the street in the lot by the music shop (it's closed on weekends, which makes it even easier). Zero stress before carbs -- we love to see it. It has that super local, neighborhood energy where everyone clearly knows exactly what they're ordering before they even walk in. Always a good sign. The bread basket? Unreal. The soup was divine -- comforting, flavorful, and exactly what you want on a cozy day. And the bread somehow manages to feel indulgent and wholesome at the same time. Warm, hearty, and clearly made with care. The space itself is just as inviting -- warm, relaxed, and effortlessly charming. And the pastries... they looked dangerous in the best way. I didn't even get one this time, which honestly just means I'm definitely coming back for round two. Already planning my next visit.

My "Soft Scramble" was a pile of astonishment. It was so unrefined that it was an insult the the ingredients. There was nothing soft about the eggs, they were overcooked. The only thing soft on the plate was the watery run-off from the vegetables they heaped into the eggs: Too many chewy mushrooms and HUGE. Too many cherry tomatoes. I had to dig to find the eggs. The leeks were strips of inedible ribbon. The toast? I think it had been toasted yesterday and left on the top of their oven overnight and then reused today. I had to get up from the table and ask for butter to make it edible and still I worried whether I was going to break a crown. The pickled vegetables? Again, HUGE, hard and barely pickled. I will refrain from criticizing the service because they are all unaware of the nightmare in which they are working. Bless their hearts. I was so sad and annoyed. People think they can buy a restaurant with recipes and wholesale accounts and staff and just run it, "business as usual" but they are wrong. I went in and asked if they had sold the restaurant and was told, "yes." I imagine some tech-bro's wife or some hedgefund community doodler wanted a pet project with zero idea about food or food quality or how to treat and retain employees because what happened to MHBB is astonishing. It's rude and insulting to anyone who opened this restaurant and put in their best to keep the name and claim to be catering to the same people. But then again, this is par for the course or, from my vantage point, everything wrong with what's happened in Marin in a nutshell. Faux authenticity. Zero care. This is now all about the money. I will never bother with it again.

This spot popped up pretty high, and funnily enough, my boyfriend--who doesn't live locally--had actually heard of it from a previous visit, so we decided to go for it. Right off the bat: huge win on logistics. There's a nearby parking garage with ample space, and parking is free on Sundays and holidays, which already put us in a good mood. The place was packed when we went (Sunday), but in the best way. It's honestly adorable--there's a small playground, multiple seating areas, and everything feels very thoughtfully put together. I don't usually gush over ambiance, but the furniture, layout, and overall warmth of the space really stood out. Cozy without being cramped, lively without being chaotic. There were three people working, one of them quite young, and while we didn't order food, I did get a matcha--and wow. It took a while to come out, but when I saw how they were preparing it, it all made sense. Unlike most high-volume spots that rush matcha, they actually take their time with the full process. The result? Easily top 10 matchas I've ever had. Fresh, clean, energizing in a way that felt genuinely good for my body--not jittery, just right. They do have pastries and a couple of food options, though the savory options didn't really tempt me personally. That said, I'd 100% come back just for the drinks and the space alone. There's just enough white noise to sit and work comfortably, and the ambiance makes you want to stay awhile. This is officially going into my coffee + work rotation.

I initially tried to place an online order through their website but they weren't taking online orders at the time so I ended up walking in to order. Located in between several industrial companies, it can be easy to miss if you're not looking. Plenty of street parking along the front or just across the street. The shop is segemented into 3 connected sections; the main room where orders are taken, crafted, and served along with bags of coffee beans. The connected room had shirts, sweatshirts, and a fridge with grab n go items. The back room, had a few vintage pinball machines along with some tables and chairs.
