    Their coffee bean roaster.

I love small town coffee shops. And I love how on this small but thriving 'downtown' area of Fairfax, there are no chains, all quaint and quirky small businesses. I finally stopped in after many years of passing through this town. Super casual, I'd even say 'hippie' vibes. Seemed like more seating outside than inside, so not really a camper's spot. Lots of antique-y looking things inside and I wouldn't even doubt if this space was once a saloon. Looks like they still roast their own beans here, which is a unique draw. In one corner you can see this old mechanical contraption that screams the industrial age. No automatic digital readings here. It wasn't in operation the time I went, but I'd love to come back sometime when it is. Iced Coffee ($6ish/4*) Don't know what type of coffee they used but it was unique. It was both earthy with slight nuances of fruity. Lighter in body tho, as I usually prefer bolder and darker flavors in a cold coffee drink. Still not bad at all. Brownie ($5ish/2.5*) I got this to eat for a later time at a campsite, after dinner. I think I got it cuz it had walnuts, I love chocolate and nuts together. But this brownie was a let down chocolate wise. The lighter color kinda worried me at first and sure enough it just tasted like a brownie made with more brown sugar than chocolate. Also more dry and cake-y than it was gooey and moist. Upon paying I also noticed they had a ton of their coffee beans already packed in 1 pound bags laid out on their counter. I love grinding and brewing batches at home so I snagged a bag. Got a Bali Blue Moon ($21ish/5*) which I never had. And after several brews at home, I really like this bean and roast. I'd say this was medium dark in roast and has great coffee notes and structure. Next time I roll through town, I'm definitely gonna snag another coffee drink to try and another pound of coffee from another origin. Makes me stoked that I'm always gonna leave with a nice parting gift after a roadtrip.

First off the location is amazing! Right in adorable downtown Fairfax. We stopped here to grab a quick bite and coffee after backpacking in point Reyes. They toast their own coffee here so I was excited to try it! The inside is super cute and fun, with cute decor and fun murals on the walls. It gives it a very cool coffee shop vibe like before Starbucks took over. My coffee was pretty good. I ordered an iced vanilla latte with light vanilla. I couldn't really taste the vanilla or the espresso much, but it was refreshing. My friend got an iced vanilla latte with regular vanilla and I tried hers and could barely taste vanilla either. My husband got the iced chai latte with espresso added and his was delicious, not too sweet, but still spicy. We ordered bagels with egg and cheese, and although they were good, the servers were rude when we asked to have them cut in half to share. He seemed upset by the request, which is odd because most bagel sandwiches are cut in half so they are easier to eat. The rude server made the experience awkward, and the coffee wasn't good enough to make up for it. Cute shop though!

Happened to stumble upon Coffee Roastery in Fairfax on our way to Cataract Falls for an early morning hike. Such a charming little corner spot in the heart of downtown! We stopped in around 7 AM and were pleasantly surprised to find a local musician performing--gave the place a cozy, old-world feel. The interior had a warm, inviting vibe, perfect for a slow morning. I didn't grab coffee since we were heading out for a hike, but a couple of my friends got pastries and enjoyed them. Unfortunately, the gluten-free selection was very limited--just a nut bar--so I wasn't able to try anything. Would love to see more GF options in the future! Otherwise, a delightful little spot to start the morning.

I really loved the roastery's location and the interior decor. If you are a coffee fan, you simply are attracted to it by its nameboard on the outside. Once you step in you get immersed in this quaint old building with vintage menus and seating arrangements. I really loved my cappuccino- as the coffee had a great flavour and it was dark roasted as per my liking. Although I would say stay away from desserts, as I tried a almond crossaint but was severely underwhelmed by it- it was really spongy and kinda had no crispness to it and probably it was aerated for quite a long time The people serving food and drinks are very warm and welcoming and I had no complaints there!

This place is definitely a happening place for a coffee shop one of the oldest ones in the area and first sip of the coffee definitely blew our mind. Very delicious and very smooth. This is definitely a happening place in Fairfax. They're super fast with their service as well. Clean and welcoming.

My partner and I were in the area and decided to stop at the Coffee Roastery for a quick pit stop. You can never go wrong with coffee especially if the coffee shop has pastries so I was very excited to see that their display cases were packed full of options. Parking is all along the streets, no meter and no payment necessary. We parked a block away and took a nice stroll over. I will say, it seems very packed on the weekend even around 3pm in the afternoon so not sure what the right time is to beat the rush. I opted for their black & white and a blueberry coffee crumble cake. While the drink tasted pretty standard, the star of my time here was the blueberry coffee crumble cake. It was unbelievably moist and packed full of flavor and I would get it again.

If you've spent the morning in Point Reyes and find yourself in need of a caffeine fix on your way back to urbania, you may want to consider making a stop in Fairfax where there's a plethora of sustenance options. I don't know what constitutes a 'plethora', but there was a lot to consider once you park in the busy public lot. I wasn't feeling complicated. I just wanted coffee. I entered the rather ornate premises and ordered the $4 Large Cafe au Lait (photo: https://bit.ly/3V70iVR). It was quite pleasant even though there was no place to sit to enjoy the dancing maidens in the trompe l'oeil. I strolled out to discover Fairfax in about ten minutes. COFFEE - 4 stars...nice and smooth AMBIANCE - 3.5 stars...the dancing maidens were a nice touch SERVICE - 3.5 stars...pretty hectic when I arrived TOTAL - 4 stars...a good caffeine pick-me-up in Fairfax RELATED - Exploring north of San Francisco? This quaint -hippie- modern coffee shop is too cute! Last time I was here there was a musician playing, and I love their organic coffee options! I was the first costumer in line and the Barista was very patient with me, since I can never figure out what I want to drink and I ended up getting a specialty espresso drink. Hee. Plus all their sweets and even gluten free items. Hee. I always stop by here when I'm in the area.

The iced maple latte was very good, you could actually taste the maple without it being overly sweet! Nice location and fast service on a Sunday.

After hiking the Cataract trail on Mt Temalpais we needed somewhere quiet to catch our breath. We stumbled back into town and headed for TCR. Street side parking is free up to 2 hours too. The space is small and quaint and gives that small hometown feel. In the main dining area there are tables for coffee dates or and a row of bar seats to perch yourself by a window + a few secluded seats by the side exit door. Be ready to really read the menu above the baristas, there are so many yummy concoctions, in addition to a descriptive roadmap of roasts of their coffees. If you're a coffee connoisseur, I'd suggest you take a seat and a big breath in to delight your ol' factory bulbs. You can never go wrong with just a coffee black but if you have more than 5 minute, order yourself a Mexican mocha; you won't regret it!

The roast was hosted at his lovely home tucked away on a wooded hillside in Fairfax (Amazing view I must say). Dan started off with some basic worldly knowledge about coffee and then got into different roasting techniques, sharing a couple of his passionate stories about coffee along the way (very enthusiastic and knowledgeable). The part most special to me was actually roasting the coffee beans over the open flame. Putting the knowledge I just learned to the test was a very gratifying experience. I look forward to drinking my freshly roasted coffee with my partner at home. At the end they have beginner roasting kits for sale so you can continue your roasting experience and you can even snag some cool merch! We bought the beans in the summer during a sale and recently started using them. My wife and I began noticing effects of caffeine from drinking it (jittery, anxious, over excited, insomnia, etc.) immediately. We both enjoy coffee but are sensitive to caffeine so look for the best decaf beans from specialty roasters. We've used decaf beans from various roasters (we had a Trade Coffee subscription that introduced us to other roasters) and haven't had these concerns. After drinking the Decaf Shakeout I once again tried a number of decaf beans from other roasters and local coffee shops just to make sure it wasn't me. Then when I went back to Decaf Shakeout I felt the caffeine effects again. At that point I reached out to customer service. They asked me send back a sample, which I did. Within hours of their receiving my sample they said the coffee director inspected them and said they are decaf. They wrote back, "So it sounds like the jittery feeling you experienced may have been from something other than caffeine in this case." That's after they said they don't have any way to test the caffeine levels--so the director looked at them? They said the coffee director "tried" them but the sample I received back looked about the same as the amount I sent. I doubt they brewed it, just assumed I was wrong. I felt dismissed despite my explaining the elaborate process I went through to isolate the experience I'd been having with their beans. I received no refund or any consideration of my concern--so I'm out $96. It's been bothering me so I decided to write a review. I won't buy Equator Coffee ever again because their decaf beans made me sick, and the customer service is robotic and not to be believed.

They used a strawberry cream top instead of a puree, which I actually enjoyed. It added a nice creaminess to the drink, and the matcha was very smooth and strong. It worked well together. I also tried their double hojicha, and while I enjoyed how nutty and strong the hojicha was, I did find it a little bit grainy. I wish it was a little smoother like the matcha was. I usually don't drink/like coffee, but the guava cold brew sounded so interesting I couldn't resist. The fruity jasmine tea somehow paired so well with the coffee and made it a nice refreshing drink. I was also lucky enough to try the matcha crepe cake, which I believe they get from Lady M. It had really nice layers and was light, but unfortunately it was a little too sweet for me. Overall a very solid matcha/coffee option in SF. They have a beautiful interior too, perfect for catching up with friends. Servers were sweet as well!
