Okay, so I really love Pink Owl and have been coming here for years. The lattes are genuinely great and I recommend them to friends all the time. But the service is usually not great. The space itself is super cute, and I've been able to take work calls inside, which I really like. Still, the baristas and cashiers often come off as unfriendly, and it kind of takes away from the experience. I'm a big coffee fan and I truly love the drinks here. Just go in knowing the service probably won't be amazing, but the lattes will be worth it. read more

Cute cafe located on the corner in a strip mall. The day I visited unfortunately was very warm and there was no AC. Very much a neighborhood spot, there were lots of places to sit and a separate room off to the side. I got a half caff Americano and daughter got an iced coffee. The coffee was very good and strong! Prices for food were a bit steep to me, but maybe $8 is the going rate for a PBJ these days? They have some cool baked goods including a chocolate chip cookie that was the size of my head. So so so good! First off, this shop is so aesthetically pleasing. I loved the decor and the vibes. Everyone inside looked like they were enjoying their coffee and food as well. The worker who helped me was great. The name on my ticket said Joe, if that makes any difference. They suggested one of the seasonal beverages and I loved it. The espresso was smooth and delicious. I think it was a honey cinnamon latte. I wish I remembered. But when I go back I'll definitely get it again. I also got a gluten feee chocolate chip scone. Also very good warmed up. The coffee is decent. But I do wish they had a true dark roast because I'm usually buzzing by the time I leave. I like the overall feel of this location. Cozy and has nice light. Lots of parking in the lot outside. The staff are always friendly and it has that nice local feel to it, unlike national and state chain stores. This review is for the 2nd street location If I could r give a less than 1 star review I would. The manager is so rude and the coffee is not even hot. They are not interested in feedback. At the Pink Owl the customer comes last. There are so many other good places to get coffee steer clear of this one. My guess is that they truly are rude by nature but also must be going broke. Cute decor and ambiance. This place is right in the middle of downtown San Rafael and I stopped in to get a chai and pastry. Seems the use a chai tea (steeped in water) and add a splash of milk instead of it actually being a chai latte. I did like they asked if I wanted any sweetener and given the option I opt out. Croissant was good but once warmed up looses its flakiness a bit--wish they'd asked about that first Big variety of merchandise too. Great idea for building their brand, hope they use a local vendor! read more

Two Fridays in late November 2025 I went to the Pink Owl on 4th Street downtown San Rafael. It was about 55 degrees and overcast and both front doors were wide open the hour plus I was there and also when I drove by a few hours later. It was freezing in the coffee shop. I went by a week later on a Friday, same weather conditions, the doors were wide open again all day. Drove by Thursday, 12/18 at about 4 pm and this time one door was wide open, it was under 60 degrees outside. The two women working weren't welcoming or friendly. My boyfriend is very sensitive to whole milk, and although I paid extra for oat milk--he received whole milk in his Chai so it was barely drinkable for him. After stopped at the Pink Owl at 4th and A Street many months ago, I was driving down 2nd Street and noticed, for the umpteenth time, this smaller Pink Owl and decided to stop in and give it a try. Unlike the 4th Street shop, it is quite intimate with a couple of limited, but very comfortable indoor sitting areas, and ample outdoor seating, it is without the unavoidable downtown vibe that characterized Starbuck's at that location. It is quiet and has an almost home-like easy feel about it. One small counter and one barrista. The electronic ordering is probably more of a pain than it is a blessing, but it is pretty easily navigable. Most importantly in a coffee shop is, of course, the coffee. I ordered the same drink. I would never get a Peets. A large nonfat latte with an extra shot. I didn't think it was possible, but this drink was actually stronger than what it served up at Peets! That is not a complaint. I love strong coffee! I sat in one of the small sitting area areas that is furnished with very worn out old overstuffed leather furniture and felt incredibly comfortable. The WiFi, the offer was adequate for my needs and I was able to use it without a problem. I am prone to assume, from my experience with that latte, that all of their coffee is very strong when compared to most of the local brews. The strength brings with it some unavoidable bitterness. If that is not your taste, this might not be the right place for you to get your coffee. If, on the other hand, you were looking for a cozy coffee shop with strong coffee and a nice vibe, this little Pink Owl on 2nd Street on a little strip mall, might be just what you've been looking and hoping for! read more

First time trying this place and I always hear so many good things! Pink Owl did not disappoint! I love the vibe and all the decor is so cute! I will definitely come back to study here. I got the Ube Matcha with oat milk and a ube mochi muffin which they were both so so good! I was impressed by how many unique drinks they have! Also, yay for student discounts!! The cold brew was excellent. I ordered the Avocado Toast, and the picture on the online menu had two poached eggs on the toast. When I opened the to-go box, there were no poached eggs. I went back and read the description. The poached eggs are not mentioned in the description. This isn't very ethical. What a huge disappointment, and I feel scammed. It's excellent coffee, though. I am editing this review and dropping it to one star because the business owner stated that Pink Owl Coffee didn't post a picture of Avocado Toast with poached eggs. I have posted the picture Pink Owl supplied to DoorDash. It would have gone a long way if the business owner had stated that they made a mistake rather than denying it. This place is so overpriced, my partner and I got two drinks a matcha and an iced latte, our total came to $20!! Insane! We waited about 20 minutes for both of our drinks and the matcha came out and it was separated and watery and my partner took one sip and threw it away because it was so bad. My latte came out about 10 minutes later and all I could taste wasn't the milk ($1.25 extra), not the flavoring ($1.25 extra) it was just how burnt the coffee was. I also immediately threw away my coffee as well. So the cost is way too high, regardless of what you put into it, a coffee doesn't cost that much, the wait was way too long for two drinks, and the flavor is atrocious, so bad that we threw them out. read more

We stumbled upon this cute little coffee shop on our way back to the city from the Sonoma area and came in to get a nice hot drink on a rainy Sunday afternoon. The owners are incredibly nice and welcoming, and the inside is set up in such a way that you feel like you are having coffee in your living room. They have overstuffed chairs, a fireplace, tables, wifi, and regular tables if you actually want to get work done. The coffee is excellent. My top 3 lattes- vanilla lavender, matcha, and the chai. You have the option of deciding how sweet you want your drinks. The pastries are worth checking out, especially the coffee cake! My friend and I stopped in here on our way up to Tomales Bay. We originally stopped at another coffee shop a few minutes away that's higher rated, but weren't feeling the strip mall vibe. We couldn't decide which coffee to have so after chatting with the guy behind the counter, who was lovely and helpful in describing the coffee, we ordered the Brown Sugar Cold Brew and Toffee Iced Latte with Oat Milk to share. We also got the guava cheesecake mochi donut and the churro mochi muffin. The brown sugar cold brew really grew on me with each sip, though the toffee was a bit disappointing (maybe just not my thing!). This is by far my favorite coffee shop in all of Marin. We have been coming to Pink Owl for years now, ever since we moved to San Rafael. Their coffee blends are literally the best and of the highest quality, and they have always had such amazing hospitality in their shop. Last year when I got married, and was going to be taking the last name of "Coffee", my husband and I knew we had to have coffee as our wedding favors.
