Other times I've visited I don't recall the food I chose then as bland. Our server was sweet. We were lucky to get the last table right away at 1:15pm--it was in the shade, too. The outdoor area was completely filled the entire time we were there. No reservations, so you might need to wait for an open table.

Very friendly staff, hop back into your car and park FAR right of State park parking lot, just down the street, for the Dogs/Pets side of the beach. Voila~ a great Sunset with great local pizza. The market is bigger than it looks and has a good selection of items. We came here three separate times during our stay and they always had what we needed....Toothbrush, razors, cold drinks, sandwiches, snacks and they were just a 5 minute walk from the rental. **Side note in case anyone is searching reviews looking for a bathroom** I was outside one afternoon with our dog waiting on the bench in front for my husband to grab me a drink and a car full of young ladies pulled up doing the potty dance and rushed in. There are signs that say "no public restroom" and I guess staff adhered strictly to it because they came out panicked and still squirming. I told them I wasn't from the area but there is a park across the street and although it's a little hidden, there is a porty potty on the East side. They thanked me and ran off and later thanked me again when I saw them in town. If we stay in Stinson again, I won't worry about overpacking because this market has what you need....except a bathroom!

I had almost eaten it before I took a picture, but I spread the coconut pieces out between the couple banana slices so it wasn't just plain almond butter. The shop was clean. The patio was nice. The service was sufficient. Maybe we missed the vibe not getting an açaí bowl or a smoothie. I just spent too much for mediocre food.

The gal taking our order was a wealth of little coffee facts and explained that cortado means "cut," referring to the espresso being cut with milk, traditionally about half espresso and half milk. We both really enjoyed our coffees. My daughter also got a sticky bun and a salsa verde burrito. She said the sticky bun was outstanding. The burrito was a different story. She saw "salsa verde burrito" on the label and tucked it into her pocket for later. We took the dogs for a walk on Bolinas Beach in the beautiful cloudy, cool weather, then headed home. When she finally opened the burrito, she discovered what she thought might be chorizo and cheese inside. That wasn't what she was expecting or wanted, and she ultimately ate only the rice and beans on the side and threw the rest away. Such a disappointment. We'd definitely come back for the coffee and would love to try one of those bran muffins when they're available. As for the burrito, next time we'll be double-checking exactly what's inside before walking away with it!

A new location is planned for 4th Street in San Rafael. The bakery changed ownership in 2021, and while quality remains high, it no longer feels as special as it once did when ex-Tartine alums established the cafe. The menu stayed the same, the dining space is a bit more worn, and bathrooms could use more frequent attention. Service is friendly, but can be slow. I still enjoy stopping in, particularly on a sunny day to enjoy the outdoor space, but things haven't felt quite as special since the original owners moved on.
