I initially tried to place an online order through their website but they weren't taking online orders at the time so I ended up walking in to order. Located in between several industrial companies, it can be easy to miss if you're not looking. Plenty of street parking along the front or just across the street. The shop is segemented into 3 connected sections; the main room where orders are taken, crafted, and served along with bags of coffee beans. The connected room had shirts, sweatshirts, and a fridge with grab n go items. The back room, had a few vintage pinball machines along with some tables and chairs. That'd be such a fun place to hang out at! Ordered a vanilla latte with almond milk and ice maple latte, also with almond milk. Both were wonderfully crafted and provided the morning jolt needed.

It offers a variety of coffee, tea drinks, and pastries. Outside, there are tables and benches where you can sit and chat with friends or other visitors while enjoying your drink. The coffee drinks are good, and the beans they use are organic and come from a San Francisco-based coffee roaster called Linea. I like them because they are somewhat different in their setup and atmosphere. So, whenever we are there and feel like a cup of coffee, Toby's is where we stop. One thing to note is that Toby's also has a small shop where you can buy local products, books, and gifts. It's a nice place to browse while waiting for your coffee. If you have kids, there's a small playground next to the café where they can play. Overall, Toby's Coffee Bar is a great spot to relax and enjoy a good cup of coffee.

The space itself is warm and inviting, with a lived-in feel and a glowing sign in the back that somehow makes the whole room feel softer. There's a large communal table, plenty of indoor seating, and a steady hum of conversation that creates excellent white noise. It's a solid place to get work done--as long as you're not recording audio, because it does get a little loud--but for emails, planning, or a casual work session, it absolutely works. Now, the matcha. This is the real headline. I'll be honest: I used to actively avoid ordering matcha here. It was mediocre at best. About five months ago, they changed it--slight improvement, but still not there. I know the ownership was proud of that update, but something clearly changed again since then, because today's matcha was genuinely impressive. Like, stop-what-you're-doing impressive. At this point, I'm comfortable saying this is the best matcha in Sausalito. Egg Lady's is fine, but it doesn't come close. They're also great with substitutions, service is quick, and the owner has a genuinely warm, welcoming presence--lots of friendly back-and-forth with regulars, which adds to the atmosphere rather than distracting from it. I didn't try the pastries or sandwiches this time (not much of a pastry person), though everything looked solid. Outdoor seating exists, but with the weather being a bit unpredictable lately, indoor is the move. Fair warning: parking is a hassle. I parked in the lot near Trident, and while it worked, the valet experience was... unpleasant enough that I probably wouldn't do it again. Plan accordingly. All in all, this is a comfortable, local-feeling café with excellent matcha, good energy, and enough seating to make it a reliable go-to. It may not be the "scene," but it's exactly the kind of place you end up recommending when someone asks, "Where do you actually like to go?"

Even though they were busy, the service was still excellent. I sat at the bar and ended up having really good conversations with the baristas and a few customers about how much East Bay Coffee has grown over the years. I even showed pictures from when they first opened and it was only a coffee shop. It's been really nice watching this place evolve into more than just coffee while still keeping the same welcoming atmosphere.
