mocha and macchiato

hot pastrami egg sandwich, kids mac, mocha, macciato cute little spot with a great menu! good for groups and little kids with strollers as there is ample space outside. they offered crayons and some coloring pages for the kids as well as a small kids menu. we loved the high quality fresh baked breads and tasty coffees they served up. great to share! portions were are bit bigger than usual! we will definitely be stopping by again to try more of them menu!

This used to be my favorite shakshuka when the restaurant opened. Every time I would come to town I would order it. It's been a few years since I've been for a visit, but it was on my list of must visit spots. Not sure what changed or if it was an off day but it did not taste the same and I didn't care for it. So disappointed. My friend got a mocha and a cinnamon raisin roll. He said they were good. Not sure I'll be back but if I am I'll stick to the pastries next time.

One of my favorite places in Marin County, MH Bread & Butter is always a pleasure. I love their Breakfast Salad and their biscottis! And I always take home one of their many breads. You will not be disappointed!!!

Caprese sandwich

This was our first visit to San Anselmo, and we parked right across from M.H. There wasn't much of a line yet, and the board outside promised a caprese sandwich, so we dove in. Oh my, what a sumptuous sandwich. The bread was divine - chewy, but nut heavy. At first I wondered how I would finish this, but the whole platter, with excellent fruit and arugula salad on the side, was far lighter than I expected. The place filled up while we ate, and we considered getting some bread to take home. Next time, perhaps. And there will be a next time.

I was recommended this spot by the people who ran the Airbnb I was staying at and I could not be more grateful. What a lovely neighborhood gem. You know a place is good when they sell out of items within half hour of opening! I had the breakfast there two days in a row and the portions were big and the food was amazing. I also got two loaves of bread and now I'm dying to go back and get more. The walnut bread is to die for!

I don't know why some of these reviews are so bad.everytime I come by here I'm always grabbing pastries from here.theyre baked good are top notched.ive had their croissants, nice and flaky and moist on the inside.I brought one of the stuffed ones with bacon and cheese and the wife loved it(she's not a pastry person).I've bought their sourdough bread and it's very tasty as my family don't eat much sliced bread.makes excellent grilled cheese sandwiches .their sandwiches are also very good,I don't know how some of these people can compare them to grocery store ones. Very nice and friendly staff,Jenny the manager is one of the nicest person you could ever meet.this is a true mom n pop shop and the neighbor hood should feel very lucky to have such an establishment within walking distance.will definitely stop by whenever I pass thru the area cause unfortunately I don't live in the area

CHICKEN ADOBO
Miller G.

I love bakeries and I love them most when they have French pastries. I recently stopped here on my way to redwoods. I was looking for something delicious to fill me up for the day. I ordered the chicken sandwich and also a baguette. I had a pastry as well which was decent but nothing too enticing. I don't think I would come here again if I had the chance as I would prefer to try something else that's maybe better. It was just not very impressive.

Egg sandwich, bacon and avacado spread- (

A picture tells the story of a bad Egg Sandwich 3 out of 10(10 being the best) The food was barely warm not hot, so the service was slow at getting the food out. The egg was only 10% of the sandwich with some bacon and avocado spread with a small salad in the side. I asked the manager where's the egg in the egg sandwich? He shared one egg in the middle, and the cook slices the sandwich in half so it looks like egg on both sides. The bread was good, but for almost 20 dollars for a cold 1 egg bread sandwich... not good for customers. Now reviewing yelp comments, it sounds other customers felt the same way... Just don't get your hopes up before you go in- Matt

POLENTA

I've been here about 3x on the weekends. The place does get packed. They have seating inside and outside (picnic style with benches). The service has always been great. The pastries are delicious and recently, I ordered the polenta. First of all, it was HUGE! I couldn't even eat half of it Second, it was delicious! I definitely am coming back to order it again.

My beautiful friend and her FRIED EGG SANDWICH

Great spot! Went here with a good friend and we enjoyed a relaxing morning meal. Service was great and the food was delicious. I love burrata and arugula so that's exactly what I ordered and it didn't disappoint. I'm happy to have found this place and will definitely be back.

There has always been long lines here whenever I pass by and when I finally got in, I cannot blame the line! Food was delicious! I got the fried egg sandwich with bacon, avocado and arugula and it was so delicious that I think about it every now and then! I paired my sandwich with Matcha latte which is also good! The service is amazing and the place is rustic and cozy! I recommend this place to anyone who wants something local!

FRIED EGG SANDWICH and this was only half

Dog friendly breakfast/brunch spot. Sit in the patio if you bring your fur baby. The pricing was fair for the portion sizes. The service was overall good even though our lattes were slow to come out (would not recommend the hot chocolate as it tasted watered down and bitter). We stopped on our way to Point Reyes and my husband and I both got the fried egg sandwich with an arugula side salad and fruit (only inconsistency is he got more fruit than I did). We both saved half our sandwiches that we later ate during a hike break. Our kiddo got the kids breakfast which was a perfect portion. Definitely coming back to try other things on their menu as the other plates we saw looked tasty!

Turkey sandwich
Annie L.

Came here over the weekend to pick up some sandwiches for a hike. Ordering online was easy. I ordered a turkey sandwich and a tuna sandwich. They both came with a fruit salad (of arugula, slices of oranges and sweet grapes). Portions were huge, I was only able to eat half a sandwich. Good flavors on their fresh bread (country bread & olive bread). Upon arriving, they made my drinks of lemonade & smoothie. This is a great spot to pick up items for a perfect summer picnic, everything looks good with extensive menu ranging from toasts, eggs, salads, sandwiches and their fresh bread!

Excellent food. Ambiance is open and light. The only ding is it was so crowded because so many people wanted to eat there.

Ask the Community - M.H.Bread and Butter

Do they provide coffee refills?

I've read below in the reviews about a recent ownership change, but I can find nothing about that elsewhere (including searching with Google). Was there an ownership change (and if so, please post info about it)?

I can't find anything about the new owners but the former owner's Linkedin page says they were owners until August 2021 so that confirmed the change

How long do they serve breakfast until?

This is a best guess based on memory, but I believe they serve their breakfast items all day (open till 3) or until they run out. Sometimes they sell out of favorite breakfast items.

Is it dog friendly?

Yes. Outdoor tables

How is the wifi here?

The WiFi is good. Many people work from there.

Do people work on laptop often here?

Not too many but there are definitely people working on their laptops from time to time

They speak Spanish?

Many employees do :)

If I'm going to have a sandwich or any bread, it's gotta be worth the gluten. This place certainly…read moreis. I do ask to have the bread scooped out so I get mostly crunchy crust. But they understand me here and make a mean turkey sandwich. I wasn't quite a fan of the Reuben but I forgot to ask for the scoop so I'll try again. Great lively service, nice people and I love the Sour Kid next door for coffee and breakfast sandwiches. To be in business over 30 years with a popular spin off you have to be doing good things for the community - and they are!

When driving there I thought I was lost... it's not in a typical shopping center but more like an industrial area where you would find warehouses and offices. The inside is small but has decent amount of seating. They have assorted drinks and desserts by the cashier. The sandwiches come out fast and they are HUGE! But the crazy part is... you can finish the whole sandwich in one sitting, it's that good! I got the pastrami and turkey and the second time around I tried a different one which I can't remember. I added extra mayo and mustard. I love how you can taste the red onion, it really gives a nice flavor to the sandwiches. The bread is made fresh and they give you a sliver of pickle on the side. I think I need to sign up for their rewards program because at the rate I'm going I should be getting a free item pretty soon!
