The best panettoni outside of Italy.
Scott G.

We have bought their Panettone Milanese every Christmas for over 25 years. They used to have a venue in Union Square and it was always part of our family holiday tradition. Unfortunately Union Square isn't what it used to be but Larksberg is still as charming as ever. Much safer too. Check it out.

Emporio Rulli has of the most beautiful Italian cakes around! They are well balanced, sweet, creamy, nutty, and look like a piece of art. Every bite is rich, flavorful, and clearly crafted with high-quality ingredients. Whether you're grabbing a slice for yourself or a whole cake for a special occasion, you can't go wrong. I will say, however, walking in for a pastry was a bit more disappointing. They may not get quite enough volume on all of their other pastries for me to say they're worth going out of your way for. They're also pretty, but I found many to be dry or lacking the given added flavor. I would: Come here for a slice of cake or a full cake for a special occasion Get a coffee and pastry if I was in the neighborhood, especially with beautiful redwoods to would to nearby!

Emporio Rulli is such a gem in the heart of Larkspur! The ambience is warm and inviting, making it the perfect spot to catch up with a friend over coffee or even meet someone new on a first date. The Italian coffee here is truly to die for -- rich, smooth, and always served just right. Their pasticceria is incredible too, with pastries that are as beautiful as they are delicious. The gelato is a must-try, and the panini's make for a perfect light lunch or snack. The staff is friendly and attentive without ever feeling rushed, which really adds to the relaxed vibe. Sitting outside in the quaint little town of Larkspur with a cappuccino and pastry in hand honestly feels like a little escape. Couldn't recommend this place more -- five stars all the way!

Cute cafe with wonderful welcoming people. We were visiting Larkspur first time and randomly went to this cafe. Pastries are so good that I can say they are one of the best I have had in a while !! Coffee is delicious too. Do visit this cafe if you're in this area !

It was my first time trying this Italian spot as I always pass it when im driving in dt Larkspur and I've been dying to try it! The staff was super sweet and patient with me ordering. I got an iced vanilla latte and a peach almond tart which we're both super yummy. My iced coffee was the perfect balance of sweet but not too sweet & was super refreshing. The tart was also super yummy and moist. It's such a peaceful spot with so many treats to offer such as gelato, sandwiches and mimosas as well! Would def come back here again

One quarter of the $50 Tarte on a dessert plate!

I used to be a regular before Covid. A lot has changed. I went in to buy a fruit tart--the only person working in the bakery area sold me the only fruit thing she had--a prima something. It looked lovely covered with raspberries. I wanted cookies, but the mouthwatering trays had been replaced by prepackaged bags: 1 lb, 1/2 gluten free. Or a $9 sachet of a few tiny cookies. I got the sachet. There were no options without nuts. My total came to $59! The taste test: the cookies were so stale! We had to toss all of them. They tasted rancid. The Tarte--we ate the raspberries but I'm allergic to nuts and my husband said the filling was bordering on curdling. The section of the store that had lovely wines is shuttered. No one was in the bakery area and now I know why. It is horrible. The cafe area was a little more lively. No one was outside. I'm sad. We had them make a special fruit Tarte for our wedding 25 years ago. The woman who helped me seemed to put on airs and be bothered to serve the only person who had the misfortune to walk in.

Lovely atmosphere and delicious food. Pastries are top notch. Waiters are polite. It feels like you are sitting in a cafe in Europe.

Do they havr tirramisu?

Yes

Do you have any gluten free baked goods? cookies, cakes, etc? I have guests who need this, thanks.

They have a pre-selected package of gluten free cookies that, when we tried them, were so stale as to be inedible. We threw them out and went to Whole Foods.

Do they have the Venetian hot chocolate back?

Yes

The Castro location is beautiful with its clean, ocean-blue French decor and relaxing, cozy vibe. It is always busy on the weekend, but the quality makes it worth the wait. Everything I have tried there is top-notch, from the perfect croissants and lattes to the savory mushroom crepes, French onion soup, and grilled tuna sandwich. The Larkspur location in the Marin Country Mart has a slightly different, less urban feel that I really enjoy. It feels a bit more intimate, cozy and has a much bigger outside seating area. It seems to have an even wider selection of great entrees. Whether you are grabbing a quick salad or sitting down for a full meal, both locations offer an authentic French experience that is hard to beat. Highly recommended.

As I waited inside I admired their beautiful decor (especially that green wall!), and peeped all the equally-beautiful pastries on display. Oh la la! It took all my post-Thanksgiving self-control to resist a sweet treat (next time!). I satisfied my craving with a hot latte. I ordered and paid at the counter/register and was greeted with a lovely French accent. I assumed that my order would take awhile given the bustling crowd inside and outside. But it was ready within minutes - a hot, smooth latte hit the spot and powered me for the remaining drive north. Le Marais is easy to find at the far end of the Marin Country Mart - abundant parking is all around. Before I got back in the car, I took a quick walk through the shopping center. A must-stop if you're in the area, whether you need to shop, to eat, or to simply grab a drink. So charming and can't wait to return!

The staff is professional and efficient, though clearly busy, so do not expect a lot of chit-chat. I also picked up a box of Cheese Coins, which turned out to be dangerous because I loved them and ate the whole box. I'm not a regular and was unfamiliar with the process but it seemed disorganized. I was given a number. I noticed an ice tea on the counter and asked if it was for me. A little later, the pastry was bagged and on the counter in a different place. Finally, I saw a bag and asked. Yep. The sandwich. I felt like a dummy for not understanding how the system worked, but also was annoyed that I tipped 20% for a takeout order and it was delivered piecemeal with no way for me to carry it. A kind person who watch the whole thing offered me her bag. If not for her, I would have had a sandwich in a loose paper wrap, a bun in a small bag, and a cup. The sandwich was okay. It had two slices of bread, not the traditional three. The turkey was clearly deli meat, not fresh roasted, the lettuce was wilted immediately, the tomato slice was good, and the avocado slice was good. The bacon was sparse, as was the deli meat. My husband didn't eat much of it. He liked the cinnamon roll. But for the money, he didn't want to have food from there again.

Today I needed a cafe with internet access but with actually good desserts (no thanks Starbucks) and solid tea and espresso drinks, so I came to Jane's and grabbed a lemon blueberry slice, an oat milk chai, and got some work done. I found my cake chilled and needing time to sit out and soften, but although not the perfect temperature, it was moist, sweet and flavorful. The new remodel at Jane's bakery has modernized the original space, but left some of the qualities and desserts that made the former Sweet Things sweet and nostalgic.

Authentic Croque Monsieur -- one of the best I've had in the States (just oversized!)…read more Stopped by Le Marais Bakery (Buvette du Marais) at Marin Country Mart in Larkspur for a sunny outdoor lunch. Ordered the Croque Monsieur with side salad and a Maison Perrier sparkling water. This is a proper French-style Croque Monsieur executed beautifully. House-made pain de mie toasted to golden perfection with crisp edges, quality ham, plenty of melted aged Comté and Gruyère, and a light touch of béchamel that binds everything without any heavy, saucy overload (I didn't even spot a thick layer in the cross-section, but the rich, nutty flavor came through perfectly). It arrived piping hot, which made all the difference -- gooey cheese and satisfying crunch throughout. Flavor-wise, it tasted more authentic than most versions I've tried elsewhere in the U.S.: balanced, comforting, and not greasy at all. The simple mixed greens salad on the side kept it fresh and prevented it from feeling too rich. Paired with the crisp sparkling water, it was an ideal light-but-satisfying lunch. The only non-authentic thing? The size -- I've never seen a Croque Monsieur this large! It's generous (in true California fashion), but everything held up well without getting soggy or overwhelming. The outdoor setting is pleasant -- brick pavement, dappled sunlight, relaxed vibe. Their bread and pastries clearly shine here, and this savory dish holds its own. Highly recommend if you're craving a genuine French bistro classic in Marin. I'll definitely be back -- probably for one of their famous croissants or a crêpe next time.

My "Soft Scramble" was a pile of astonishment. It was so unrefined that it was an insult the the ingredients. There was nothing soft about the eggs, they were overcooked. The only thing soft on the plate was the watery run-off from the vegetables they heaped into the eggs: Too many chewy mushrooms and HUGE. Too many cherry tomatoes. I had to dig to find the eggs. The leeks were strips of inedible ribbon. The toast? I think it had been toasted yesterday and left on the top of their oven overnight and then reused today. I had to get up from the table and ask for butter to make it edible and still I worried whether I was going to break a crown. The pickled vegetables? Again, HUGE, hard and barely pickled. I will refrain from criticizing the service because they are all unaware of the nightmare in which they are working. Bless their hearts. I was so sad and annoyed. People think they can buy a restaurant with recipes and wholesale accounts and staff and just run it, "business as usual" but they are wrong. I went in and asked if they had sold the restaurant and was told, "yes." I imagine some tech-bro's wife or some hedgefund community doodler wanted a pet project with zero idea about food or food quality or how to treat and retain employees because what happened to MHBB is astonishing. It's rude and insulting to anyone who opened this restaurant and put in their best to keep the name and claim to be catering to the same people. But then again, this is par for the course or, from my vantage point, everything wrong with what's happened in Marin in a nutshell. Faux authenticity. Zero care. This is now all about the money. I will never bother with it again.
