Came for a small group lunch, as we often do, and we enjoyed the meal, as we always do! We sat on the patio, and although we waited a bit for a straggler (the usual suspect!), we were quickly offered a drink order and gladly enjoyed big glasses of iced tea and fountain soda. Finally, the crew was assembled, and we ordered some favorites, plus a couple of new items. Variety is the spice of life! I was one of the holdouts against that, but I did tweak my usual order a bit in a show of solidarity. We ordered two lunch specials off the board, an egg salad sandwich with potato salad, and a bacon, cheddar cheeseburger with grilled onions and many other toppings (lettuce, tomato, and such). We also ordered a hamburger (a regular for us) and the Grilled MAC (my usual), but I switched the bread from my usual sourdough to rye while still keeping the Swiss cheese. All the burger folks had a side salad, which disappointed me as I usually collect a French fry tax from others. But not this time! Ugh - the fries here are outstanding! But so are the salads, soooo... My Grilled MAC, which I usually get on sourdough, was STACKED with grilled mushrooms! I love mushrooms, so this was heaven for me. I liked the rye as a change as well, so either that or sourdough moving forward. All the food was great, as the photos will show, and the serving size is still decent for the price. The salads are indeed good, with a nice variety of vegetables with the lettuce. Speaking of lettuce, the two burgers had a LOT of lettuce, and the burger folks took it off their burgers and added it to their salads. The egg salad sandwich, on lightly toasted bread, was indeed more of an "egg WITH salad" sandwich, having lots of lettuce and tomato, and not enough egg salad (for me), but the guy with that sandwich did not complain and said it was very tasty. Because there was also a birthday among us a few days before, we HAD to celebrate with dessert and chose the apple and mixed-berry pies. They also had blueberry, but I have had these two before and really like them. They did not have ice cream, though (), but a decent whipped cream helped. The apple pie was hot, and although a bit charred along the crust edge (even I do that at home), I just broke it off, and no loss really. The pies were very good. Overall, the food was great as always, and our server Clarita and the beverage guy (sorry, I did not catch his name) kept us in our place! Looking forward to the next lunch outing. read more

2.5 stars We both ordered the Benedict's on the special's board. Randy's was a classic beni with hash browns and I ordered the crab cake beni with chunky potatoes. I don't normally get Benedict's and I shouldn't have today. The hollandaise was more like a cheese sauce with a bit of lemon in it and neither of us really enjoyed it. My potatoes lacked any flavor but were crispy. Randy enjoyed the thick Canadian bacon on his Benedict. Our server was...maybe nervous or something? I asked if there was anything spicy on the crab cake Benedict because crab cakes usually come with a spicy remoulade or aioli and I didn't want that. She said she didn't know if it was spicy so I asked her when she found out, if there was anything spicy to please put it on the side. As she was walking away, she asked Randy did he want HIS hollandaise on the side too ugh. I tried to explain when she came back what I was asking and she seemed annoyed. Haven't been eating breakfast out as much. But I missed Le Croissant and had to return. I was not disappointed. Service is excellent. Food quality and amount is a good value. My go to breakfast here has been the breakfast burrito with green sauce. It's delicious and large and will definitely stick to your ribs. read more

Nice no frills place for some standard breakfast/brunch fare. We got to pick our inside table by a window and took our time looking over their menu. Definitely ordered our coffees first and got a serving of whipped cream along with them. Fancy! Breakfast was standard and good. We ordered the Mexican omelette & the low carb plate. The omelette had a little too many pickled jalapenos, but was flavorful. The hashbrowns could use more browning/crisping, but were good. The low carb plate was actually just perfect for me. We had a lovely server, all smiles, and very gracious. If in the area again we'd like to try other items as well. read more

I got an extra-large croissant that came warm right out of the oven, and it was delicious. Loved that they serve a generous side of fresh fruit instead of heavy potatoes. The eggs were cooked well, though they just needed a pinch of salt to be perfect. Must be racist day again because just after I changed the review I wrote previously, I open the bacon and the container looks like it was dragged across the floor prior to them placing my bacon in it. I also ordered a menu item with the price of $18.99. By the time she finished ringing up "sides" it came to $27. I won't be back. I can't stand inconsistent service or food and I can do without dirty containers and rude treatment. If someone sitting at the counter is in the way of the staff, then perhaps remove the chair. I've recently had the Cobb Salad, and also the Salmon Salad. The Cobb had generous amounts of bacon and avocado, which really appealed to me. The Salmon was a very large piece and perfectly prepared with a moist center. Loved both dishes! Also the service is great - really nice people have been there forever. Highly recommended! read more

I've been going to this restaurant for years. Same great food, same great staff, except for one new server today. I handed her a $100 bill and asked if they were OK with a large bill, and she said 'yes'. My meal was ~$32 (I don't remember the change) and she came back with ~$18. I told her she was short by $50 and she said she had given me the full amount. She then said the owner would review the video tape (?) and call me back, she took the tip I left her, and that was it. I never got a phone call. I will call the owner tomorrow and dispute it again, but watch out. This was a VERY strange experience. Beware and I'd suggest only paying by credit card. I was in the neighborhood and decided to stop here for breakfast. They had a nice patio area to sit in, that was covered and cool. I had the egg white scramble with chicken breast, spinach and tomatoes, black beans and tortillas. The eggs were served quickly and it was a healthy and tasty meal, which is what I was looking for. The beans were great, and the tortillas fresh. The scramble had fresh tomatoes chopped on top of a good sized scramble with chicken breast and spinach. Delicious! My family and I stopped in here for a late breakfast/early lunch before heading to the Muir Woods. It was a fairly close to out Airbnb and easy to find. We found a parking spot right outside on the street but there is a small lot as well. This place isn't that big, so my large party decided to sit outside and enjoy the beautiful Nor Cal weather. Customer service was super friendly and accommodating to some of our pickier eaters. I was expecting more classic breakfast and pastries items, but they also had some Creole and Mexican dishes as well. As good as the breakfast items looked, the waitress said one of her favorites was the crispy chicken sandwich. I don't know if I was hungry or what, but that sandwich was outstanding. It was seasoned perfectly, crispy as advertised and delicious. The pepper jack cheese gave it a nice little kick and the fresh veggies balanced everything out. Walked in the door just after 0700. Quiet but it looked like a few regulars were already there. Turns out I was too hungry to take a picture of my food. Ordered a potato dish with Cajun seasoning. This breakfast/lunch place that takes cash only is an iconic San Rafael restaurant. It's been in San Rafael longer than I have, which is to say, more than 35 years. You won't get a bad meal here, whether it's for breakfast or lunch. Plus, during COVID, the owners added nice outdoor seating while preserving parking in the back. You can get eggs prepared lots of different ways with lots of different sides, including bacon, corned beef and some of the the largest pastries I've ever seen. Pancakes and waffles with real maple syrup are also on the menu along with breakfast burritos and huevos rancheros. The lunch hamburgers are hefty with excellent onion rings, and/or french fries. Other sides include salad and coleslaw. I think Le Croissant's coleslaw is the best coleslaw I've ever eaten. I even get it to go sometimes. If you're looking for a more substantial lunch, those are offered too. If you're from the New York area, this is the closest to a diner you'll get out here. read more

It's SO easy to miss this place - tucked into a corner on "the loop" at the Canal in San Rafael, but let me tell you this is THE place you want to be at for breakfast when you're in this area.
