It has been a while since the crew gathered here for lunch, and the patio was a great place to be. We gathered at about 12:30, and it was oddly not busy. I know times are not easy money-wise, and I hope that this place can hang in there, all things considered. Their prices are still reasonable and rather competitive to other San Rafael cafes we go to, and the food quality and service are excellent. We were welcomed immediately, and placed drink orders while waiting for a straggler - there's always one! Being regulars over the years - or decades, more accurately - we all knew what we wanted. Our server, Luci, has been here seemingly forever, and quickly took our order. We had the Grilled MAC (mushroom, avocado, and cheese) with Swiss on Rye, and a side salad; a hamburger with fries; a Club sandwich, and another hamburger, this one with a side salad! The food came quickly and was very fresh. The fries were really good (I had to collect a "french fry tax" from another's plate) and were crispy yet not greasy. The side salads here are always different from other places, with lettuce, plus fresh and blanched vegetables like tomatoes (okay, a fruit!), carrots, cauliflower, bell peppers, kidney beans, red onion, broccoli, and I think zucchini. I may have missed one! Too much goodness, and delicous all together. The Grilled MAC is tasty, and the hamburgers disappeared quickly, while the Club was beautifully made. Nice no frills place for some standard breakfast/brunch fare. We got to pick our inside table by a window and took our time looking over their menu. Definitely ordered our coffees first and got a serving of whipped cream along with them. Fancy! Breakfast was standard and good. We ordered the Mexican omelette & the low carb plate. The omelette had a little too many pickled jalapenos, but was flavorful. The hashbrowns could use more browning/crisping, but were good. The low carb plate was actually just perfect for me. We had a lovely server, all smiles, and very gracious. If in the area again we'd like to try other items as well. read more

Must be racist day again because just after I changed the review I wrote previously, I open the bacon and the container looks like it was dragged across the floor prior to them placing my bacon in it. I also ordered a menu item with the price of $18.99. By the time she finished ringing up "sides" it came to $27. I won't be back. I can't stand inconsistent service or food and I can do without dirty containers and rude treatment. If someone sitting at the counter is in the way of the staff, then perhaps remove the chair. We just enjoyed a perfect brunch. The service, food quality and presentation, and patio seating were all perfection. I had a breakfast burrito and my friend had the fruit and yogurt. I've recently had the Cobb Salad, and also the Salmon Salad. The Cobb had generous amounts of bacon and avocado, which really appealed to me. The Salmon was a very large piece and perfectly prepared with a moist center. Loved both dishes! Also the service is great - really nice people have been there forever. Highly recommended! read more

What amazing people and they truly earned their name. We walked in shortly after they had taken the almond croissants from the oven. So incredible highly recommend perfect for a cheap day like Christmas Eve morning. We ordered the California omelette with the fruit side cup the fruit, the veggies everything was so incredibly fresh and wonderful. Can't recommend this place enough. I've been going to this restaurant for years. Same great food, same great staff, except for one new server today. I handed her a $100 bill and asked if they were OK with a large bill, and she said 'yes'. My meal was ~$32 (I don't remember the change) and she came back with ~$18. I told her she was short by $50 and she said she had given me the full amount. She then said the owner would review the video tape (?) and call me back, she took the tip I left her, and that was it. I never got a phone call. I will call the owner tomorrow and dispute it again, but watch out. This was a VERY strange experience. Beware and I'd suggest only paying by credit card. Good diner type food for breakfast, brunch or lunch. They are not open for dinner. I like the low-key no frills atmosphere and location here, as well as the outside dining area in the front. I was in the neighborhood and decided to stop here for breakfast. They had a nice patio area to sit in, that was covered and cool. I had the egg white scramble with chicken breast, spinach and tomatoes, black beans and tortillas. The eggs were served quickly and it was a healthy and tasty meal, which is what I was looking for. The beans were great, and the tortillas fresh. The scramble had fresh tomatoes chopped on top of a good sized scramble with chicken breast and spinach. Delicious! My family and I stopped in here for a late breakfast/early lunch before heading to the Muir Woods. It was a fairly close to out Airbnb and easy to find. We found a parking spot right outside on the street but there is a small lot as well. This place isn't that big, so my large party decided to sit outside and enjoy the beautiful Nor Cal weather. Customer service was super friendly and accommodating to some of our pickier eaters. I was expecting more classic breakfast and pastries items, but they also had some Creole and Mexican dishes as well. As good as the breakfast items looked, the waitress said one of her favorites was the crispy chicken sandwich. I don't know if I was hungry or what, but that sandwich was outstanding. It was seasoned perfectly, crispy as advertised and delicious. The pepper jack cheese gave it a nice little kick and the fresh veggies balanced everything out. There is a covered outdoor patio, inside tables and counter seating. Greeting was friendly and warm, service the same. Ordered a breakfast sandwich with eggs over hard on wheat and a latte. I like that the latte comes in a little coffee pot to keep it warm and give you two cups worth. Sandwich was fresh and hot, eggs done right and two slices of cheese. Nothing fancy, just good plain food. They have healthy options like oatmeal and fruit besides the classic eggs, pancakes, etc. Pretty regular lunch menu. Great friendly vibe, pretty easy street parking out front for pickup or to grab a coffee and pastries. Cash only or there is an ATM. No WiFi. Large, clean bathroom. This breakfast/lunch place that takes cash only is an iconic San Rafael restaurant. It's been in San Rafael longer than I have, which is to say, more than 35 years. You won't get a bad meal here, whether it's for breakfast or lunch. Plus, during COVID, the owners added nice outdoor seating while preserving parking in the back. You can get eggs prepared lots of different ways with lots of different sides, including bacon, corned beef and some of the the largest pastries I've ever seen. Pancakes and waffles with real maple syrup are also on the menu along with breakfast burritos and huevos rancheros. The lunch hamburgers are hefty with excellent onion rings, and/or french fries. Other sides include salad and coleslaw. I think Le Croissant's coleslaw is the best coleslaw I've ever eaten. I even get it to go sometimes. If you're looking for a more substantial lunch, those are offered too. If you're from the New York area, this is the closest to a diner you'll get out here. read more

It's SO easy to miss this place - tucked into a corner on "the loop" at the Canal in San Rafael, but let me tell you this is THE place you want to be at for breakfast when you're in this area.
