Pies and cakes at Jane's Bakery in Tiburon
    Rachel H.

Twice as nice, Jane at the Cove has taken over and expanded the original Sweet Things space, leaving some favorite treats, increasing its bakery offerings and doubling its store footprint. You'll still find a lot of their "old school" Sweet Things original baked goods, alongside new breads and treats. Jane's is relatively close to the freeway, so worth a venture if your sweet tooth is calling. Today I needed a cafe with internet access but with actually good desserts (no thanks Starbucks) and solid tea and espresso drinks, so I came to Jane's and grabbed a lemon blueberry slice, an oat milk chai, and got some work done. I found my cake chilled and needing time to sit out and soften, but although not the perfect temperature, it was moist, sweet and flavorful. The new remodel at Jane's bakery has modernized the original space, but left some of the qualities and desserts that made the former Sweet Things sweet and nostalgic.

This is one of those bakeries you cannot pass up! In the parking lot by Nugget Market, but skip Nugget and come here for delightful sweet things. The variety of cakes, pastries cookies, and more will make your mouth water eyeing the beautifully made things in the counter displays. Just plain YUM! I got an assortment of cookies, boxed exquisitely, to take to a friend for an after lunch treat and they were absolutely delicious. Do not miss this small piece of bakery heaven!

They taste delicious, this pic doesn't do it justice.

Thank you Sweet Things for saving the day, as I wanted something special for my daughter's big day graduating Class of 2020 Bowdoin with a Neuroscience degree. We were all devastated not being there due to Covid, and to witness her walk on stage and celebrate with her friends, faculty, and people who inspired her the last 4 memorable years of college life. With such a huge accomplishment, she deserved only the best aka special treats from an exceptional place that knows customized/specialty baked goods. They've been in business for many decades, and I grew up seeing "Sweet Things" pastries everywhere from SF to Marin to the entire Bay Area. I figured this will definitely cheer her up. I took a picture of the cookies, didn't have time to take the cupcakes when her siblings bit into them like it was their special day - SMH. She was ecstatic for a quick second, then back to being sad, then happy again due to a roller coaster of emotions. I totally feel her pain, it's a huge milestone, yet we couldn't be on campus to celebrate in Maine with endless lobsters. Go figure, a Cali kid who went to Maine for college, and loved it. In many ways, it resembles the beauty of Marin and the stunning coastal landscape. Thanks again for making the delicious cookies & cupcakes unforgettable, and staying open during this crisis. I love supporting local businesses and always will. 'Til we meet again ~ happy baking & see you on Yelp (SYOY)!

While a few of the dishes we had heard about were gone from the menu (Mina specialties) they had a solid listing of staples and I understand they're working on formally relaunching the restaurant with a bunch of new dishes. The vibe is great (5Star) - good seating with each table having something fun to look at, be it the bar or the ocean, and the music was groovy for lack of a better word. Food was 4 stars but the steak, tipped me back into 5 star category. We had the spicy tuna roll which appeased our sushi desire, the Caesar salad for some greens, and the Delmonico Ribeye with carrots. The steak was phenomenal and I paired it with a Vesper Martini which was mixed expertly. Looking forward to coming back and seeing what the new owners do on the relaunch.

Roasted half chicken is trying to be expensive fusion Hainan chicken but the rice is not good and the chicken is salty. Uni squid ink pasta was also extremely salty.

The view from the cafe and their outdoor patio is beautiful. We ordered a peach scone, an oat milk latte, and a chamomile tea. It was nice to see that the chamomile tea came with a teapot and made about 3 1/2 cups of tea. The latte was served in a nice glass and paired really nicely with the peach scone, which also wasn't too sweet. I loved the interior seating and lighting; it's nice that they seem to have musical events going on, too. The service is friendly, albeit a little slow when it gets busy, which is to be expected. And of course the best coffee drinks that come to mind. Mom decided on a piece of quiche and poppy seed lemon cake while I chose the breakfast burrito and the peanut butter and chocolate bar. We both found our choices to be uniquely delicious and filling. And it turned out my brother had purchased earlier in the week the specialty desserts as surprise treats for us to enjoy later. They did microwave the quiche for me... surprised they didn't have some for of oven. Honestly, none of it was good and after picking at it I threw most of the $22 order in the trash. An expensive waste of money. Additionally, they were calling someone a "puta" (a vulgar insult for a b*** or wh***) directly in front of me. The shop is pretty tiny, located next to a donut shop near the netrance of a medium sized open plan shopping center. Came in there and the worker offered us whatever samples we wanted and we immediately noticed the really interesting but unusual flavors that they had. Of the classic type flavors, we really liked the brown sugar vanilla and the breakfast cereal one. The cherry special drink and the grapfruit one also tasted quite nice. But the ones that stood out the most were the thom ka and the chaat masala ones. while the chaat masala didnt end up having that distinct tanginess you might expect, the thom ka ice cream was mind blowing. It tasted exactly like having the soup but in a cool and refreshingly creamy dessert form. My mind couldn't really process it other than the fact that it was delicious. We ended up opting to pair the thom ka and the brown sugar vanilla to have a "normal" flavor to offset the unusualness of having a thai soup ice cream. We honestly could not get enough of it - it easily was one of the best ice cream scoops we had ever had and it being a plant based ice cream was insanely impressive. Frankie & Jo's will definitely be a place we will be returning to especially as the new seasonal flavors roll out so we can see what other concoctions they might be able to try and conquer.
