A true classic in San Rafael. I was introduced to this ice cream shop by my boyfriend and we've been here several times since. Here I am finally writing a review. It's easy to find and it's located in a plaza so parking is easy. Service is always friendly and helpful. On this particular day I opted for a single scoop sundae (comes with whipped cream, hot fudge, almonds, sprinkles, & a maraschino cherry) which was the perfect amount for me. You can change any of their toppings if you'd like which I ended up doing. Their ice cream is delicious and I appreciate that it's not too sweet. I drove by a few months ago and noticed a line of people waiting so I took a mental note and decided to come back on a later date. The first time I visited I sampled the old fashioned vanilla, lavender with rose petals and apple strudel. I fell in love with the Apple Strudel and really hope it's available year-round and not seasonal. On my next visit I sampled the cookie batter and it's my second favorite flavor. The shop is small but there are a wide variety of ice cream to choose from. The staff is nice and made me feel welcomed. It's definitely worth the price. read more

You can tell it's a town classic and favorite as the wall was lined with various pictures from way back as well as memorabilia, etc. I opted for the plain cone with what was initially 2 scoops: Lychee and Peach. As I was getting ready to pay, I spotted Matcha on the last case and of course, I had to get it. The combination of flavors went perfectly together. The ice cream was velvety and creamy but not overly sweet. You can taste each distinct flavor on its own. Definitely lots of various combos to choose from the plethora of ice creams and sherbet flavors. There's also ice cream cakes for sale. The ambiance is definitely that small-town feel and always happy to support local shops when I'm traveling. Service was also great. The ice cream is fantastic. I had pecan praline and butterscotch in a waffle cone. It was absolutely amazing. What was not amazing is I brought my service animal inside and they told me he had to have a vest that said he was a service animal. That is not required by federal law and the American disabilities act. When I told the person waiting on me this, he refused it and said it was their policy. I suppose they don't have to follow the policies of the ADA, but I've never seen a business that didn't have to before. It's in a shopping center so there's plenty of parking including charger for electric car. The shop was empty when we got there and we were greeted right away. The person behind the counter offered tastings which was nice. They have some really unique flavors like eggnog, rootbeer vanilla, raspberry chocolate, etc. I ended up getting a scoop of mint cookies and cream and it was yummy. My bf got butter pecan and cherry and our total ended up being $13. They have huge selections including sorbet Def reccomend this place if you're in the area. Silbermann's Ice Cream was the best ice cream I had during my time living in California (2015 to 2019, inclusive). My friend and I stopped as part of a longer adventure. We were looking for some cold treat and this place was not too far off our path, so try it out we did. Parking was easy to navigate and located close to the front. Workers were friendly. I went with a scoop of their Turkish dream flavor and my friend went with a scoop of the marble cake. We each tried our own, thought they were very tasty, and then eagerly tried each other's. Fortunately, we each liked both and loved the one we picked for ourself best. The ice cream was texturally smooth, similar to gelato, and very flavorful. Silberman's boasts on their signage they were "established in 1966" and with a wood paneled ice cream parlor interior covered with sponsored local softball and soccer teams, you won't doubt it. Despite being located in a non-descript 90s strip mall, close to the somewhat sad Northgate Mall, the interior has old school character and plenty of homemade ice cream flavors including banana and Mexican chocolate, all which can be put in a chocolate dipped waffle cone or in a cup. I was a bit shocked that the largest available was a 2 scoop cup with literally 2 regular scoops and not a bit bigger. All for $7. No over serving here. Amazing truly old-time high quality ice cream with a vast variety of flavors, all of which are worth trying (depending on your taste) with absolutely no novelty nonsense. Fun fact: this ice cream shop is the oldest establishment in the shopping center and, apparently, one of the original inhabitants when the center was built (as a Swensen's). My one quibble and it's not a minor one (I chose not to dock a point because the product is so good) is that the young fellas who work here are never friendly and sunny and welcoming. Instead, they are surly, taciturn, and preoccupied. This has been true for as long as I can remember. Going out for an ice cream should be fun and exciting and the workers should help bring out that good cheer with a friendly HELLO and a WHAT CAN I DO YOU FOR!!? They should never bring you down which unfortunately is the case with the young fellas at Silberman's. It's gotten to the point where I send my wife in alone for fear the workers will bring my dapper down. I implore the current Mr. silberman to train his staff to smile at customers from ear to ear and welcome us all in for a sweet old fashioned good time!
