Here's what you need to know about Fairfax Scoop: 1) Street parking can be challenging, especially early evenings and weekends. Be prepared to hunt for a spot and walk. I suggest looking on Bank Street, Mono Ave and Elsie Lane to start with. Go slowly and watch for people and bicycles. 2) It's a tiny shop and there may be a line. It could be long. Remember, one human can only physically scoop so much ice cream in a minute. The process cannot be rushed. Patience will be rewarded... I promise. 3) Have cash. 4) Their waffle cones and cups are handmade, so the crunchiness or chewyness may vary. Some may be more crunchy or or chewy than others. For me, I thought the flavor of the cone was awesome! 5) Study the daily ice cream flavor list as you approach the counter. Smile, ask for a waffle cone or cup. They come in kid or regular size. Specify how many scoops you want per cone/cup. 6) Remember, scooping ice cream for hours at a time isn't easy... and Scoop is very, very popular for a reason. Service was good and efficient. read more

Fun spot for ice cream and fresh waffle cones. My favorite is the mocha chip and I love that the ice cream is flavorful without being overly rich. A single scoop can include two flavors and a bowl can include four. There are no samples and it is cash only. The line is long and slow moving but it is worth the wait! read more

Fairfax Scoop - Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt Near Me - Fairfax, California

Scoops in Fairfax is a treat. This cash only establishment offers tasty organic ice cream with a sustainable twist. First of all, the flavors are seasonal with their lavender honey being a signature of flavor. They make fresh waffle cones or bowls and a gluten free cone too. You can also get cups and spoons that are placed in bins nearby when you're done. Yep, it's all eco-friendly. The flavors rotate but I tell you, the chocolate orange chip is a favorite of mine. Service is always exceptional, kind, and fun. There are no samples. Just make a choice and it will we a good one. There are benches outside and some tables inside. There's usually a line so be patient. It's worth the wait. read more

Amazing ice cream establishment - great flavors and fresh waffle cones! Expect a wait, afternoon weekend took at least 30min. Note: cash-only My favorite is the vanilla honey lavender - not too floral from the lavender and perfect sweetness! I enjoy how the ice cream is not too heavy on creaminess. I also appreciate that single scoops can include 2 flavors! read more

I've had better ice cream with shorter waits. Waited in line one hour in line. One hour.

Fairfax Scoop is a true establishment that has stood the test of time including a pandemic, new ownership, and has always been organic and creative with what's in season and kind hearts. If you see the line out the door, never fear; just brave it (unless it's very close to closing time at 10pm!). The staff are always awesome with making the wait as short as possible. They know what works (no samples, cash only, and the most beautiful scoops of tasty goodness. I appreciate there often being a vegan option because those with dietary restrictions or preferences need yumminess, too. Cow milk concoctions and seasonal sorbet flavors... There are no poor choices! Tip the scoopers and waffle makers, people! I've seen customers walk away with pints and never put a dollar in the jar. This is such a cute place where you can feel good about the ingredients going into your belly and the little ones' also. Fairfax. scoop is a local treasure we want to have as long as all precious gems! read more

Fairfax Scoop - I love this sign. I need a shirt! (Hint. Hint!) - Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt Near Me - Fairfax, California

Cash only, very limited vegan flavors but a fun place. Cone comes included but if you want it in a bowl you will get a ceramic dish with a metal spoon so don't go far as you need to return it. We found the line very very long less because there were so many people and more because the staff was so so slow. read more

Still love this place. Prices have increased but the quality is worth it. Can't go wrong with the Mexican chocolate and coffee mix, or the Mexican chocolate and chai tea mix. Staff are typically friendly, as was the case today. Their cash register has gone digital! But still cash only. read more

All the other reviews will tell you how great the ice cream is, but it's also insanely cheap by modern standards. The single was two scoops in a waffle cup or cone for $4.75. read more

Wow, is this in California? After seeing $5.40/gallon on the sign at the gas station, walking into Scoop felt like I was swiftly transported in another era. The line was beginning to spill out of the shop when we arrived and by the time we left, it was out the door the queue extended further down the street. The retail space on the inside is about the size of a postage stamp. Super small. A couple of tables on the left for seating (although no one was sitting, as I would feel to cramped to sit there while people are right next to you in line). There is a water cooler and then 2 ice cream freezers with their flavors. I understand that they make their ice creams in house, as well as their waffle cones and bowls. These are a couple of unique things about Scoop that I found: - pricing: Kids $2.75; 1 scoop (1-2 flavors) $3.75; 2 scoop (3-4 flavors) $4.75....say what? Where I come from, a kids scoop is about the price of Scoop's 1 and 2 scoop. PLUS, it's cash only, so start looking in the cracks of your couch... - they are a minimal waste shop, meaning, you can either have your ice cream in a real ceramic bowl with metal spoon for dine in, or you have to get your ice cream in a cone, unless you want to lick it from a waffle bowl. They don't have to-go packaging. I'm assuming that the only things are the napkins, the paper water cups for the water cooler (you have to ask for them behind the counter) and the pints for the ice cream (they'll give you a discount if you bring your own container). The line seemed to go pretty quickly, considering only one dude was serving and cashing out. There were other people around but they were helping to replenish the case. The ice cream was very creamy and delicious. I ended up getting the coffee which was delightful. They had some unique flavors like Moroccan mint tea. Wish I could have tried, but with the prices and the line, no samples is a policy. Scoop is down the street from my friend's house and they said that every time the sun comes out, there is a constant line out the door from open to close. Enjoy, Friends, and stop by for a treat if you're in the area! The locals know what's up! read more

Terrific place in a laid-back town. Person doing the scooping Thursday 4/16/26 in the early afternoon so personable, helpful, and welcoming. Incredible flavors, superb value, line moves quickly and it's your turn before you know it, don't be put off by the line...it's people that know how great it is! Join them! Pros-the value is excellent relative to the quality of ice cream you are getting. The Mud Pie flavor was very solid. (The Cardamon was lackluster.) Cons-the one way in and one way out systems we see at many of these smaller establishments drives me batty. It's like a traffic jam and ice cream had a baby. I understand sustainability practices are aiming for better for the environment but the cone heavy funnel they get you into creates anxiety. Do I want to eat my ice cream that fast so it doesn't drip all over the place? No I don't. Do I want eating ice cream to feel like it's some sort of race against a ticking clock? No I don't. What about paper bowls that are highly compostable? I must be the only person who hates cones but here we are. read more

Best ice cream in Marin county. I come here often after mountain biking in the nearby hills and the service is always really nice.

Best traditional ice cream in the Bay area. I always stop there when in transit from point reyes. Extremely delicious, environmentally conscious and varying flavors, including always having survey, and at least one other vegan flavor. I only complaints. They have a lot of different kinds of ice cream, but don't always have one and with chips in it. I have told them before their policy should be that they always have at least one flavor with chips. Cant beat this place! read more

This is a perplexing place. Ice cream is a 5, but store operational execution is a 1 - therefore a 3 overall. Owners should visit a Salt and Straw location to see what operational excellence looks like. Salt and Straw is both a 5 re their ice cream and a 5 on store level operational execution. Bummer that they haven't expanded to Marin yet. 1. Take and encourage credit cards - charge us the merchant card fee. 3% more on a $5 scoop is nominal. If you're just trying to avoid taxes, pay your taxes like other small businesses. Charge us the additional cost to cover your taxes. Cash slows down the line. The other option is personal check - the fact that this is even an option in 2026 for $5 ice cream is mind blowing. You can charge more for your ice cream and I'm sure most people in Marin would be willing to pay more to not have to wait in an unnecessarily long line due to poor operational execution 2. Don't sell pints when the store is busy. How on earth does it make sense to have the single scooper scooping 5 pints for a customer when the line is out the door. Why don't you have pre packaged pints again like Salt and Straw if you want to be in the pint business. 3. Don't train new scoopers in the height of rush hour on a Sat night. Putting up a sign to be patient doesn't counteract that it doesn't make logical sense to do this when it's incredibly busy 4. It's a very basic menu - set up ordering kiosks or having a roaming order taker so it speeds up the line. Have people pre pay with credit card on a IPad with the roaming order taker or at the kiosk 5. Have two scoopers looking at an order screen driven by the roaming order taker or kiosks who have already received payment Only good thing other than their incredible ice cream is that they don't give samples. This is very sensible given the lines! Just because it's been around forever and has great ice cream doesn't mean you need to run the business like it's 1960. You'll make more money and have more happy customers if you utilize modern technology and common sense. Your ice cream shop is a business - a for profit entity! Drive more throughput! read more

Simply the best ice cream in America. Highest quality seasonal ingredients. The ice creams are loved by everyone. Their caramel ice cream is truly perfect. I grew up in Fairfax and Woodacre, the scoop has always been a place that I associate with home. People of all ages from Marin county go there for ice cream. This place rocks! I discovered it this afternoon and came back for seconds later this evening. They are clearly popular based on the long lines but it is well worth it. They make everything here and it's a zero-waste facility. So you are not getting plastic spoons, you can get a metal spoon that you can use there and return or you can get the ice cream in a cone to go. I got the toasted sesame (make sure to get some of the top layer which has the sesame) which was heaven and so was the hidden treasure. I got mine in a waffle cone...felt like a kid again. That was worth the wait and the calories. read more

A boutique ice cream shop with a great mix of flavor options (black sesame, honey lavender) and classics (vanilla, chocolate, strawberry). I love their zero waste target and the commitment to locally sourced and fairly sourced ingredients. The prices are not as high as at other boutique ice cream shops, and the quality and care is high. Because of the narrow nature of the shop, indoor seating is more notional than available, and the line always seems long. Stick with it; it goes faster than you think and it's worth it. Cash or personal check only. Benches outside. read more

There is always a nostalgic, a warm, a classic feeling when it comes to these kinds of ice cream shops. The small, local, socially conscious ice cream shops that has not only become a staple in a small community, but located in the heart of a picturesque downtown. Fairfax scoop was it! The line, quite extensive, but that was due to covid precautions. But I think the trait of quality was that the line was filled with locals, not tourists. This, to me, speaks quality, when you have locals lining up for ice cream. The flavors were fresh, vibrant, and uniquely assorted for the season. The service was nice. The ice cream, surprisingly, was soft (which also meant that it melted quite fast--so be prepared). Fairfax Scoop does not offer up any "one-time use" items, including spoons or bowls, so be mindful. Can't miss local ice cream shop :) read more

Probably the best ice cream place I've ever been to. Strawberry is my favorite flavor although it's not there all year. Seasonal. This is an odd thing, but the only thing that gets on my nerves about the place now is the wording of the sign up at the front explaining they no longer do samples. A Yoda quote saying "There is no try, only do." Or similar. Really? Lol. Just say " Sorry, no samples". I honestly don't care if there are samples or not, but don't try and spin it in some self righteous way like everything else today. It's borderline insulting. read more

We came on a Saturday at 8:30, had a 50 minute wait and they ran out of vanilla honey lavender while we were in line. We got vanilla, strawberry, cardamom, and chocolate. I visit every time I take a trip to the area for some wilderness hiking with the puppers. What a great treat to reward yourself after a 6-7 mile hike! Ice cream changes seasonally and made in-house. Something about family owned ice cream shops always seems to tug at my heartstrings. Welp, the Fairfax Scoop is no different. It's adorable, it's delicious, and they've got their scoopage game on POINT! So... how about them flavors?! I'm a sucker for unique ice cream flavors and the Fairfax Scoop has definitely got that! Three words: Vanilla Honey Lavender! IF you see this flavor on the menu, you should DEFINITELY get it because... I said so :). But seriously, this flavor combo is quite orgasmic. Yeah, yeah... I know this is a family show, but still. I just need YOU to know how this incredible ice cream flavor makes me feel. Mm hmm... yup. Like that. But anyways, pretty much all of their flavors are amazing. They've got a mix of lovable classics and some super unique combos that they rotate out regularly on their menu. This is a SUPER tiny place and lots of times that line is out the door, but they truly know how to make it work. The kids at the counter are so sweet! They really work hard to make everyone happy. Their "regular" is actually two scoops and it's only $3.25. Um whaaaa?? Yeah buddy. They be hookin' it UP. Plus... did you peep that scoopage game? A regular size is humongooo! You better come hungry for ice cream or go home. For real! I love that they use real utensils here and are non waste (no plastic spoons and they offer waffle bowls and cones only). They also encourage people to bring their own spoons from home since they don't provide them at this time (I'd just go with a cone if you don't have one when you visit). The only reason why I can't give them 5 stars is because this business is still operating as cash only even during the pandemic. I just feel like at this point, they really need to broaden their horizons and start accepting cards. If anything, it's also more of a cleanliness issue since cash gets passed around waaay more often than someone's personal debit card does. Plus, they have touchless machines now and machines that only require the customer to stick the card in and that's it. But, that's just my two cents about that. In any event, I still really enjoy this adorable little ice cream shop. It's a cute local's favorite that has now become my favorite when I find myself out in Fairfax. read more

One of the best ice creams around. Always fun to see what flavors they have because they change, but I love the coffee and the salted caramel together. And I like their hours they're open till 10. Definitely recommended. read more

We stopped here to get ice cream the other day, and we're very glad we did. The flavors were really excellent, especially the salted caramel, which I think may have only been a temporary flavor. (My girlfriend remarked that it was one of the best ice cream flavors she had ever had.) The prices were quite low, we thought, and the servings very large: A double in a waffle cup was definitely more ice cream than I needed, but I'm not complaining. There are some slight disadvantages of this shop. For example, they won't do normal cups for a single or double scoop, only for a pint or quart, and so you either have to get a waffle cup, which I don't really value, or a metal cup, which means you can't leave. Also, they don't have compostable spoons or anything like that, only offering metal ones, which again means if you're eating from a bowl and don't have your own spoon, you need to stay put. This wasn't the worst thing in the world, because the shop is on a nice town strip with some benches outside, but in a rush it is a bit less convenient than I would like. Also, the store doesn't offer samples, and so you don't really get to try your flavor in advance, but thankfully all the flavors we tried were pretty good. The storefront is also pretty small, and so I can imagine it getting quite busy if a bunch of people go at once, although that wasn't the case for us. All in all, this was a very good ice cream shop, and we definitely recommend it to other people. Try the salted caramel if you can! read more

I heard that the place gets crowded, but we lucked out after lunchtime when there was no line at all. It is small and there aren't much chairs to sit. They don't accept cards and the selections are limited. The two young women working the counter weren't nice but weren't mean either. I got 2 scoops but my friend got 1 scoop of the salted caramel. It was okay but melted really fast on a day that had overcast and wasn't hot at all. read more
