I don't know why I don't come here more often because every time I do, I leave wondering why I waited so long! Piatti is one of those places that's easy to forget about, but it absolutely deserves to be on your regular rotation. The Spinach & Ricotta Tortellini with lemon cream, sage, citrus gremolata, and pecorino was incredible. It was rich without being too heavy, perfectly balanced, and honestly something I'm still craving days later. We also shared the chopped salad, and the portion size was generous--perfect for sharing--and just as delicious. The cocktails were equally impressive and paired perfectly with the meal. One of my favorite parts is the outdoor porch seating. It's such a beautiful, relaxing place to enjoy dinner, especially on a nice evening. If you have kids, this is a great family-friendly option. They have a kids' menu, and we noticed several families dining there, which made it feel comfortable and welcoming without taking away from the ambiance. Great food, delicious drinks, generous portions, and a wonderful atmosphere--it's everything you want in a neighborhood Italian restaurant. The best part of this meal and I would have this again. Pizza Diavola: 3.5/5. Average crust. Decent toppings. Not great, but a solid pizza. Crostata al Cioccolato: 2.5/5. Not bad, but not that good. I recently visited this restaurant and had a disappointing experience, mainly due to the management. The manager (name sounded like "An-Gloria," based on what I was told) came across as unprofessional and visibly overwhelmed. Instead of supporting her staff during a busy time, she was speaking to them in a harsh and dismissive way, which created an uncomfortable atmosphere for both employees and guests. It's never a good sign when staff look stressed and unsupported. On top of that, when I asked for a wine refill, her response felt rushed and came with unnecessary attitude. I understand that restaurants get busy, but how you handle pressure is what defines good management--and this wasn't it. The food and setting were fine, but the service experience, particularly from management, really took away from the visit. I hope this is addressed because it impacts both the staff environment and customer experience. read more

Wonderful place for dinner with friends, family or colleagues! Our party of ten had a lovely experience with excellent service and a welcoming ambiance. The food was delicious--I tried the arugula salad and the white bean kale soup. The table also enjoyed the generous bread baskets with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Piatti has been in Mill Valley for a long time and delivers consistent Italian food. It's not especially memorable, but it is authentic and the portions are solid. The pizza is yummy--thin crust with just a little sauce--and the salads are reliably good. The location is convenient, right off the freeway in Mill Valley, which makes it an easy stop. That said, it does feel overpriced for what you get. You have to pay extra for bread, and there's a noticeable push for bottled water. They have an upstairs for private parties and each time I've gone to a party, it's been nice. Overall, dependable but not standout. read more

One of my favorite Italian restaurants is Piatti. I don't think I've ever been here without ordering their calamari and pizza -- those two are always a must! Everything else on the menu has been consistently delicious too; you really can't go wrong here. We recently tried their brunch, and it was outstanding. The steak and eggs were perfectly cooked and full of flavor, and the blueberry ricotta pancakes were light, fluffy, and absolutely amazing. Reading available one star reviews about lousy service, mediocre food, and canned excuses provided by management almost convinced me that I wrote them about my recent experience there. Dear management, I'd like to share my bad experience from dining there tonight. The reason I gave 5 stars is because I don't want to hurt business owner from tiny mistake. I usually go there for happy hour for few years now. This is first time I went on Friday evening. I asked my server what kind of beer for Pondfarm since the brewery does couple deference type of beers. He told me he new and doesn't know. I asked if he could ask bartender. He responded if you don't like it I'll drink it. It was a joke but I dont want to waste it or return. I asked him again and he keep saying if you dont like it I won't charge you. Then I asked again No, I want to know what type of beer and finally he asked bartender for a taste. From this, then I ordered a glass of happy hour Chianti. He said there is no Chianti for happy hour but I showed him it is in the menu. He show me his handheld and both of us try to find a match name on the icon in Toast. Name match, price match $11 . Minutes later, other server dropped both drinks for me which is a beer and a glass of white wine. I refused on white wine and told her I ordered Chianti. She apologized and told me in ticket says that white wine. Then few minutes later, another server dropped that mistake white wine again and I refused. Now I realized maybe my server sent a wrong wine. I tried to look for him since food was served and No check back on me. I asked another server who waiting to pick up his drinks at the bar to call my server since I am still waiting for a Chianti. He seemed to say he is busy but will let my server know. Now, the bartender told that person that she got it. I saw she about to open a new bottle of Chianti and my server went there to be informed that customer ordered Chianti. When I finished my meal and asked for the bill. He use his handheld and show me to the tip selection page. I asked him can I see the details first. He said " I can not go back you need to choose ( Tips) first and print receipt". I showed him how to go back and saw that I was charged at regular price of Chianti $22 instead of $11 in the happy hour menu. I made sure to ordered before 6pm one time to prevent wrong charges. I explained to server that price is wrong. He tried to say his co-worker who is bartender charged it. I knew that it was over his authority to fix the wrong charge them I asked him for manager. Since he is new and mistakes happens. He called his co-worker bartender for me instead. I asked are you a manager and she said yes. She argued that you ordered Chianti then you need to pay for Chianti. I asked the bartender lady who represented as manager to bring me a happy hour menu and point out. "Do we know that Chianti is red wine?" She said yes. Then I didn't ordered white wine that servers tried to deliver to me. She forced me to pay what I ordered even though I pointed out in menu has Chianti as happy hour price. I finally walked to another server and asked if that lady is manager? The person said no and called real manager for me. He approached quickly and fixed problems and done less in a minute. I overheard the bartender said to him as an excused that ohh, it was a happy hour price. The problem had handled professionally he fixed the price and I am happy to pay for it. Sadly, this place became our favorite happy hour place since couple of breweries in San Rafael closed down. This mistake was a very easy fix and doesn't need to become an issue at all if services handled it professionally instead of forcing customer to pay for mistakes. It is only $11 in the difference and you lost customers. We usually go on Tuesday and service at the bar was great with no attitude. I just did a mistake to go to your happy hour time but bought home with frustration. It is not about $11 it is about how did you deal with mistake and attitude on something that wrong. read more

We were first time visitors celebrating a special occasion and decided to sit out on the patio. Our waiter was not the best, once he sat us, he did not check on us at all. Once the food arrived, our pasta (from the kids menu) tasted very bland. We had to wave our waiter down to ask him for salt. Apparently our waiter said he would get it but never arrived so our son never ate his food. No water refills, no asking how the food was, Nothing! Finally we just told another server we were ready for the check. and moments later, our waiter came in and took our card. We got into Piatti's patio immediately, with a big umbrella shading us and fantastic service and food. Great Italian fare, ample parking, reasonable prices, no wait list. I'm moving it up to the top of my list! Funghi pizza was amazing and we ordered different salads - each of which was large and interesting. Definitely planning our return visit. Thought the food was excellent, and were picky eaters. Ambience is great as well; right on the water. The one bummer about our experience was the service. We came in right before 8pm (they close at 9) and sat in the bar area. The bartender and waitress working the area were way more concerned with prematurely closing down the bar and getting off of work than serving patrons. It was tough to flag them down to get another round of drinks, and the waitress was standoffiish (maybe she was just having a hard day). I was there a couple of weeks ago with my son. I ordered the butternut squash soup, which was tasty but my mistake because it wasn't terribly creamy as I had hoped, but I augmented it with the whipped ricotta cheese that came with bread. We both ordered the pesto pappardalle which was good, but my taste buds might have been off because as I really enjoyed it the first time I had it last year I didn't love it as much this time - not the kitchen's fault. My son ordered the pizza diavola, which he enjoyed ; we brought most of it home and then my sister and my brother-in-law enjoyed the rest. The restaurant wasn't terribly full- server was fine. Nice atmosphere, with a good view of the water. Our server was knowledgeable on wines and gave us a good recommendation for our party of 6. The fritto misto appetizer was way overcooked and the bread had no flavor. We all split Caesar salads, which we told the server. The lettuce leaves were uncut, so we not only had to split up the salads ourselves, we had to use knives to cut up the romaine to eat. In all fairness, the menu states the leaves would be whole, but it doesn't make for a good dining experience. Although my lemon tortelloni was delicious, we're from out of town, and the locals we went with were pretty disappointed in their meals, so I have to consider in the review. Exactly 10yrs ago, my husband and I had our wedding reception here at Piatti. Today, 10yrs later we decided to come back to celebrate our wedding anniversary with our daughter. I see that they remodeled a little bit and it looks more modern but still has a cozy feel. I made a reservation on OpenTable and selected that we were celebrating our anniversary - I think that's why they sat us by the window. I would give Zero Stars but Yelp doesn't allow that. My girlfriend and I have gone to Piatti in Mill Valley for months. We always sit at the bar in the same place and never have they (a man and woman bar tender pair, are they a couple?) asked us for our name nor ever said, "So nice to see you again"... it is almost like they're doing us a favor to wait on us.... I have saved 20 receipts and NEVER given less than a 20% tip but tonight (6/8/26) I was treated so badly. We got our wine right away but when we wanted appetizers it took three minutes to order. Then when the wine glasses ran dry there was no "would you like some more?" it was as if we were invisible. Finally we got a second glass of wine and how dare we ask for water. Then we wanted to share a last glass of water and I couldn't catch their attention for 5 minutes so I finally whistled and that was my mistake! When I wanted to pay to leave I held my credit card up; elbow on the bar and after 5 minutes my girlfriend said, "Put it down" (They won't see it I thought if it is laying on the bar) another 2 minutes pass and they finally took the card and I pointed out that the job of the "Bar Tender" is to "tend the bar!" We stopped in after a long day at Muir National Monument. Our boys were sat at one take and then parents in two separate tables. Unfortunately our server seemed quite annoyed at the situation and after introducing herself, we then had to wait for long periods of time before she would come back and once our food was delivered, we never saw her again. We were not able to get refills, she never checked in to see how our food was, and when it came time to leave, we had to ask someone else for the check. We've usually come here just for drinks and appetizers on the sun-drenched patio that looks out onto the lagoon. But yesterday we stayed for an early dinner. Results were mixed. As ever, the bread basket and dipping oil were terrific, as was our daughter's soup. But my pinsa-style Diavola pizza was nothing more than ordinary, featuring a forgettable tomato sauce with only the oregano standing out. Same with my wife's Spaghetti Pomodoro, which reminded me of the inoffensive Chef Boy-R-Dee spaghetti that my mom used to serve us growing up. Nostalgic value, yes, but definitely not worth restaurant prices. By the time we left, though, the place was unaccountably packed, possibly due to guests from the nearby Acqua Hotel. Or possibly because of the dearth of decent Italian food here in Marin. Whatever. I remember Piatti's being better before its menu and decor renovations. read more

This is my favorite go to restaurant for lunch when I'm in Mill Valley close to the 101. They have an Italian fare with pizza, pasta and paninis...we had the panini version burger with a delicious Caesar salad with chicken protein. We finished with the warm donuts and a macchiato. This was a visit primarily for cocktails with friends, although there were some appetizers involved. Since I can't really rate the food what I can do is tell you about the lovely experience we all had at a corner of the bar overlooking the bay. Cesar, our bartender, was a delight - recommended some new and different cocktails for each of us, and we were are very pleased with the result. I like the huge ice cube they use instead of traditional cubes - I think it keeps the beverage colder and lasts longer that smaller cubes.
