Checkin was at 3pm and we showed up only to be told that it would be an hour before ready. After one hour I asked if the room was ready and they said another 20 minutes. Eventually we got our room a little after 4:30. The staff only has 10 rooms to clean. We were on the bottom floor and the noise coming from above was terrible. People walking back and forth all night, moving chairs, etc. we heard everything. Don't book rooms 6-10 unless you want to hear people upstairs all night long. Room had a jacuzzi bath which I thought would be nice after a long day but when I tried to fill the tub, the stopper would not work. For as expensive the room was, it was a very very disappointing experience. read more

Stopped by Mountain Home on a beautiful, clear day for a casual family drink on the patio--hard to beat the setting. Unfortunately, the experience didn't match the view. When we walked in, we were met with what can only be described as complete indifference. Not outright rude, just a noticeable lack of hospitality that set the tone. I was the driver, so I grabbed beers for the group and ordered a Diet Coke for myself. They're pouring soda from a gun, nothing unusual--but when I finished and asked for a refill, I was told there were no free refills. That was surprising, especially given the minimal cost of fountain soda. It wasn't about the money--it was the principle. For the cost of a small refill, they lost a customer and, more importantly, the kind of customer who would otherwise bring friends and recommend the place. Great location, but service and basic customer goodwill need serious improvement. read more

Mountain home inn is definitely a treat to splurge on. My husband took me and the kids here for my birthday and the views are beautiful. Eric made my birthday even more special by having the fireplace burning and some bubbly waiting on ice when we got there. The showers were huge with two shower heads- one on each side. Ultimate luxury. I loved the rustic homey feel they had. There were rolled up blankets everywhere, they had a little game room where we played scrabble and jenga before bed. Breakfast was included and they had two different types of homemade quiche and something from everyone- bagels, yogurt, individual fresh fruit cups, and cookies. We hope to come back again some day! The Mountain Home Inn was a sweet find to stay before the Mt. Tam Wild Boar Half Marathon literally just up the street. The service was outstanding as the manager at the bar/check in was exceedingly welcoming with local recommendations and even coordinated with the next day's morning staff to extend my check out to after my race. The views from their balcony can't be beat - it was enjoyed by hikers in all their gear enjoying beers as well as regular tourists stopping along their Mt. Tam scenic drive. The accommodations were as expected for an older building extended and renovated at different times, with the kitchen/dining area being renovated during our stay. Yes, there were a few cobwebs here and there but the staff and the views were amazing! read more

Good - comfortable, clean room. Amenities good. Some glitches like outlets not working, burnt out light bulbs, clearly a historic building they are renovating but missing some bathroom upgrades and basic maintenance. That's all tolerable when it a beautiful setting and there's cozy communal rooms to enjoy the scenic vistas and fresh air on the mountain. The bad and ugly - the customer service and 'breakfast' included. As one staff member likes to say 'we're not the Marriott' - lol? But maybe try a bit harder so your food is at least better than a Holiday Inn Express continental breakfast. Seriously, the owner seems to not get it that when guests are paying $400 + for a room with 'breakfast included' they need to do better. With only 10 rooms, why not prepare a decent breakfast offering like most quality lodges and B&B's? It's so easy to make basic and necessary improvements, and make guests feel welcome and appreciated. A simple 'welcome in!' Offer to show guests to their room and ask if they need anything. At check out 'how did you enjoy your stay! Is there anything we can do to better accommodate you next time'?' But that only works if the owner actually listens and wants to make guests happy. Sigh. So much potential to be a great place to visit and I so wish I could recommend this place because there's many reasons one might want to return, but too many reason to keep me away. No A/C either there and for that price on a very hot day I can't imagine how any guest would feel they're getting a good value. Windows lack screens too. Likely West Point inn next time for me. Yeah it's rustic but views are better and I'd rather pack in my own food than eat the prepackaged bad food at the Mountain Home Inn.. and yeah, it ain't the Marriott either, but I wasn't expecting that. Heartbreak! Having gone here for fifteen years and enjoying good hot food and wine and dessert- not to mention the gorgeous view, our trip there today was a huge disappointment! Safe to say, unless the kitchen comes back to life we won't be back! The food they have available is far less than what it was- barely existent now! Many customers are not hikers and are looking for a nice meal! What a shame to have lowered the standards to the point that it's no longer a place we want to visit! Walking into the Mountain Home Inn always feels like a treat. Been coming here for years :D The face-lift, while still in progress, is looking great. With the kitchen gone, the prepared ham & brie baguette with a cold Kolsch beer hit just right after some time in the sun on the mountain. The view always makes the Mountain Home Inn such a magical place. Live music with Wolff is a major bonus to the Inn! The staff is always so welcoming and personable. Feels like home. A Mt. Hikers and bikers paradise! If you are looking for a wonderful way to treat yourself after a long hike this place is the spot! Not only is it great to recharge after a day hike, but we stayed overnight in Room 5, and it was spectacular! There are several diverse levels of hiking/biking trails right from the Inn. The front desk and barkeep for both the day and evening were kind and helpful. The room was very clean, the jacuzzi tub worked in our room, and you couldn't beat the views! We did two pretty challenging hikes and did not want to drive down the mountain for dinner and so we Door Dashed it. The fog was rolling in, and we ate dinner with the fire going in the fire place with the doors opening to be huge balcony with a beautiful sunset. The bed was comfy. The continental breakfast the next morning was tasty and filled us up for another morning/afternoon hike. I highly recommend that if you love easy access and to treat yourself instead of camping, this place is worth it! read more

Mill Valley, Ca. This is actually a pretty amazing place to eat if you're up on the mountain and hungry. There are no other choices so it is fortuitous that the food is so good. It is pricey, but you can always try your luck down the hill where the price options of Mill Valley are no better. Our server greeted us with alacrity. We even changed tables once to her dismay but she remained happy that we were there (Her Words). The burger here is a candidate for one of those "Best Of" lists. Mixing the ground chuck with lean brisket gives the meat an exceptional flavor, the bun holds up to the juices very capably, and the chef uses lettuce to help accomplish this. The flavor of the bacon on the burger was awesome and the avocado was was a generous portion. The burger was cooked medium but may have went a bit beyond that once removed from the grill. I like it that way but it did cause the patty to shrink down to a half inch. It still had a large diameter, but this would have been a perfect burger if the patty were but a quarter inch more thick, The fish tacos were of a style I wasn't expecting, and they were delicious . I commend the chef for offering this up apart from the traditional. The grilled sea bass inside were a good size and cooked perfectly. The mint drinking water was a nice touch. The fresh spinach salad was oh so good. Sweet potato fries are an option that should be had, they are great. The view made for a great evening dining adventure. read more

Utterly disappointed after 30 years of coming here to eat on the terrace that they have closed their kitchen and now sell prepackaged pre prepared food three bean salad. Sad that this institution went this direction. Their $34 Cheese and charcuterie is a joke and no thanks on the three bean salad. Poor quality, cheap and over priced. The hotel had enough problems without this. End of an era. Who ever made this decision is clueless. Gonna run this place into the ground. Will not be back! read more

On a Friday night, why arent there more customers having drinks (wine and beer) at the amazing Mountain Home Inn? Last night, Marilyn and I drove about 15 minutes from our home inMill Valley tothe Mountain Home Inn located on Mt. Tamalpais. we hadnt been there for years. The Inn has a main dining room, but it's up 3 steps, and bot accessible for those of us using wheelchairs. On the main floor, there's a short bar with maybe 4-6 chairs (no lowered accessible section) and only wine and beer are served. There is an accessible bathroom on 5he main floor and maybe 6-8 small dining tables. We sat at one next to the door to the outside deck and had a wonderful view of the Bay Area! The Inn has a number of guest rooms, including one that is accessible. There is also a lower dining room for overnight guests. Our serving staff, Kelly, (I hope I got that right!) was warm, friendly, and very professional. (Thank you!!!) and the food was wonderful! Marilyn and I each had a 1/2 Ceasar Salad. Although the salad tasted more like it had a pre-made dressing, it was OK, but didn't meet the flavors of a true Ceasar Salad like I would make at the customers's table, that included a coddled egg and smashed anchovies that were then mixed with fresh-squeezed lemon juice and Lee & Perrins Sauce! But, I know that very few restaurants prepare Ceasar Salads fresh at the table, so I won't suggest that the Mountain Home Inn failed with our Ceasar Salad. Just dreaming of what used to be! Marilyn ordered the Calamari starter as her entre, and I ordered th MushroMushroom Ravioli as mine. Both were "on the mark"! The Calamari was an entree size, and clearly deep fried in fresh oil, and not overcooked. My mushroom raviolis, and the sauce, were amazing! And during drinks and dinner, a guitarist provided wonderful accoustic music, and later, sang a few songs. Whats not to like? I would say, the Mountain Home Inn hit a 9 out of 10 last night. Staff even guaranteed us a beautiful sunset over the Bay! We will return! read more

What a nice find in a sunny Wednesday afternoon. Hiked Muir Woods and then headed up to Mt Tam and found this inn/restaurant along the Panoramic highway. Seating outside with a gorgeous panoramic view. Hubby got the brat (the chips were amazing; I may have snagged several). Sea bass tacos were delish--2 tacos with generous amounts of sea bass and avocados, along with a nice side salad. Service was prompt and our waitress was friendly. Parking area was under construction, but that should be resolved shortly. read more

Stopped by today for our usual post hike lunch and were disappointed with the new food and menu (the sandwiches and salad were disappointing and over priced for what we received). We have been regulars over the past decade and have always looked forward to the amazing food and views. Little cheese and the brie was HARD like bro that's sus especially when the signs were boasting how fresh the brie was. Additionally the meat was like 3 pieces and pretty flavorless another miss. Honestly could have found much better version from trader joe's or target. Also $16 brie and ham sandwich BOO. The fig jam was great but the bread was sad and not toasted and the brie was again subpar. Also it was small and plain for the steep price. It's right by a bunch of great trails, and we hiked a ways while waiting for the restaurant to open. Definitely make this a part of your Mt. Tam trip! Totally worth it. Just know that if you're ordering meat, make an offering to the meat bees, so they will leave you alone! It works. read more

To further respond to your response. The price tag $157 per person for your offering. It was not a fair price. For inedible food. For your information i declined your salmon offering because everything was so bad.... I just didn't have the stomach to take another bite.... I determined that my Rottweiler would prefer the beef . Therefore I decided to just take that wrapped up for the dog. Generally prime rib is a cut that isn't horribly chewy except when it's all gristle like on Christmas Eve. We stayed here for a night and generally didn't feel it was worth the money we spent. We were looking for a hotel that was as close to Mt. Tam as possible. So we bit the bullet and booked a night for $400+. The room needed updating and the bottom floor felt a bit dungeoney. We were charged extra for bringing our dog and needing a rollaway bed, which we weren't told about beforehand. We felt it should have been included at that high nightly rate. The breakfast experience was also continental, and probably should have been full service or nicer at that price. read more

Went for a drink yesterday and was so disappointed. They do not have a liquor license I guess. Beer & wine are the only options. We were told to order at the bar & they would bring things out to the deck ( the view is the only reason to go) we ordered a cheese/charcuterie, plate $35 dollars, it came in a plastic box, with plastic knives, how can you cut hard cheese??? The cheese selection was barely edible, salami's looked very old, crackers were in plastic wrap. They only brought us one plate to share I guess?? The wine glasses $15/$17 a glass, were barely full, and I'm not talking about what's a small pour, like only a 3rd of a glass was filled. For almost $70 it was just very dissatisfying. You know what I hate the most and hate is a strong word? When people take my money without my consent. Thought I would not notice? Came for dinner with friends after the hike on August 19th. Looking over my bank account charges today and I noticed I was charged $6 extra. Doesn't matter if it is 6 cents or $600. It is my money you took without my approval and I don't like when people steal from me. My receipt states $25.13 and not $31.13 as you charged me. Pros. Great location, awesome views, super comfy bedding, bath products Cons: food, tired decor/furniture Ambiance - lovely spot near Mt Tam. Fireplace in room very nice esp for fall and winter stays nice EO products in the bathroom. Offset by carpet and furniture that needs updating. In general the Inn needs an overall refresh but get the cost impact esp during covid times. Staff - very friendly. Everyone following covid protocols. Dining - patio dining esp at night is gorgeous. Food is okay to meh. Burger was very tasty served on ciabatta role with fries. Spinach salad was large and with Sonoma goat cheese but not tossed/dressed just some drizzle on top? Breakfast was very underwhelming. In fact minus stars were around the food. Most B&B's serve fresh, well prepared meals and snacks and this is where Mountain Home falls short both on taste and in presentation. Parking - guests have parking right in front as well as across the street space permitting. Super convenient. Hiking - the hiking trail head is literally just across the street. The trail is easy with a slight grade on the way back to the B&B Value - price was $350 for the room we stayed in so when you consider the minus stars for food and decorthis is where each guest will need to determine their value equation. This where half stars would be great if Yelp can introduce that feature (hint, hint). We get it if you need to manage cost and everything is discounted but if you charge a premium think about the the total experience. read more

Dead hairy fly in my coffee and rude staff. My wife and I drove to Mount Tam and stopped by here on a whim. Advice: do not come here. First I met the owner and politely asked if they were open for coffee and dessert? She replied, "we're open for dinner". That was a off putting response. But we went inside and got seated and ordered coffee and was planning to share the ravioli. But an emergency came up and we needed to leave and cancel the order for ravioli. Mind you, this was just less then 5mins after ordered and I ran inside to let them know. The waitress immediately had an attitude and said she couldn't cancel because the order is in the system. I asked, it's in the system but has the chef begun to cook it yet? After she finally canceled it and brought out our check, she said "just pay and leave". I said it is not necessary to to rude and by the way, there was a dead fly in my coffee. She said, "that's impossible". I showed her the spoon where I fished out the dead hairy fly and said, " I am not asking for a refund or anything but you should know". The most disgusting part is that I had drank some of the coffee before seeing the fly float to the top. Horrifying. You can make your own judgement on where to place your trust, time, and money. But I would not recommend this place. Rude staff and disgusting. There was also an abnormal number of bees flying around the patio as well. read more

I had a spur of the moment lunch today on the way back from a hike. It was absolutely lovely! Kelly warmly greeted me, and continued provided the kindest service. I over heard another table give her major kudos. The crispy skin salmon, along with the accompanying potatoes and asparagus were cooked perfectly. Last but not least, the deck setting is perfect on a beautiful day! To comment on the hotel portion - I didn't stay here at this time, but likely will do a staycation here.
