Love this place. Room was clean, service staff was friendly. Location was perfect - right in heart of town with great shops and trails within walking distance. Included breakfast offered lots of options and all fresh. The space was kept clean and the fact that the staff offered to make a cappuccino for me with breakfast really won me over. The wine and cheese offerings in the evening were also really nice too - a good amount of options. Overall this hotel really exceeded my expectations. We didn't want to leave. read more

I believe this is the only hotel in the downtown Mill Valley. We were looking for lodging in downtown because we wanted to do both the Dip Sea hike to Stinson Beach and a show at the Sweetwater Music Hall. Mill Valley Inn checked both boxes for us! We were in unit 11 which is on the 3rd floor. The staircases and the elevators can be a little tricky to navigate when you first get here. Our room was clean and ready for us! The space is a little dated, but we were very comfortable here. The bed is very great for a good night's sleepand we hahot showers. We joined the wine and cheese hour in the afternoon. We joined the breakfast in the morning. Both were great - there were options for everyone here! read more

It's a 3-star hotel with 4+ star prices, so expectations should be metered. Things to know - the quietest rooms are all in the back buildings. If you are staying in the main front building, choose the top floor. Second floor of the main front building is noisy. I'd feel better about the value here if the second floor opening to the parking garage below were closed - that space could be converted into a gym. This would isolate and make the second floor rooms quieter as well. read more

This place is a dump with disgusting rooms, disgusting service and disgusting atmosphere. The hotel is literally falling apart, the furniture is old and worn and disgusting. The carpet is dirty. The front desk staff is incompetent and rude. It's noisy and you can expect mentally ill curses and sex acts screamed at your window all night. I didn't see one tree. Just falling apart doors and filth. I left early it was so gross and loud. I immediately asked for another room and was told to try it for one night because everything booked. It was horrible. left messages and spoke to 3 front desk workers as well as the police. No one cares. Everything booked. Cannot be moved anywhere at all and no refund for a $1200 reservation in a disgusting noisy room. No one here cares at all and they let me know. Then my review posts and all the sudden a very nice clean room is available for one night. I'm desperate for sleep and take it with no other options than drive 8 hours back home with whole family expecting to see our family and have a vacation. I'm hopeful until the incompetent staff calls and wakes the kid and me up an hour after falling asleep and at 9:30 at night to see if we checked in. Wtaf. The incompetent staff cannot serve customer nor communicate with each other so I pay the price with being woken up again by this moronic motel. The hallway of other room is uneven tile and grout and the service cart was super noisy from 6:30-7:30am ruining any chance for morning sleep. Make no mistake-this is not a classy hotel. This is a DUMP MOTEL. All common areas are outside and above the parking garage sharing the same air-including the dining room where the breakfast is. You have to wear a coat everywhere inside and breathe in disgusting car fumes while eating. They try to close it off with a shower curtain. Pathetic cheap dump. read more

There are great things about this inn, but seeing that the bathroom looked like it hadn't been cleaned with hair everywhere and then being treated with an eye roll when asking that it be cleaned again was not cool. Wow what an amazing little gem in Mill Valley! We had a great experience staying overnight. Customer service was superb! They had a whole bunch of complimentary goodies ie snacks for kids, small bottle of Champaign and other beverages in the room when we got there! They offered us everything we needed and were super friendly, wanting to ensure we were enjoying ourselves with our 2 kids and we truly did. Our room was clean and comfortable. Having said that: This is not a quiet retreat in the redwoods. It is a noisy urban motel directly overlooking a very busy and noisy street, with an array of cars, trucks, early morning street sweepers, slamming car doors, and loud bar and restaurant-goers until late at night. We asked for a quieter room but the hotel did not accommodate us. Further, there are no opening windows--only large doors which lead to a balcony overlooking the street. The room was stuffy and we wanted air. The problem was that it was raining. Because there is no awning, the rain would have come into the room if the doors were at all open. read more

My wife and I tacked on two nights at Mill Valley Inn on our trip to Sonoma and it was more than worth it. We were celebrating our 30th anniversary and it was the perfect setting. The room was outstanding and very comfortable and the staff was super friendly and helpful. The daily 5:00 wine and cheese was a perfect way to ease into dinner and we met some really nice people there. Great amenities and it was a memorable stay for sure. A lovely Inn amongst the Redwood tree yet centrally located in town, absolutely perfect in all of the ways! My fiancé surprised me with a weekend getaway in Mill Valley and choose this Inn for us to stay at. From the moment we checked in, I knew our stay would be wonderful because they greeted us with a goodie bag filled with treats(including a freshly baked cookie) and a bottle of wine. Once we headed to our room, we noticed the hotel was neatly intertwined with the Redwood trees, despite being centrally located in Mill Valley and being within walking distance from restaurants, art galleries and coffee shops, I still felt like we had our own price oasis in the woods. Each room has its own patio where you can sit and enjoy wine and conversations and if you have a larger group, there is group seating in the garden. The room itself was large and whimsical and the bathroom even had a soaking tub which is great after a day of hiking Mt. Tam or any other hiking spots the North Bay is home to. In addition to they complimentary welcome bag, they have complimentary breakfast which ranged from quiches, smoked salmon with all the fixings, smoothies and customized latte's made by the staff. Large room with a balcony, fireplace. 2 room downsides are the toilets should be ADA height & need Charmin ultra soft TP instead of one ply scratchy TP. Breakfast was sensational, complete with lox, capers, red onion, cream cheeses. Nice local pastries, lots of fresh fruits. 24 hour coffee Wine reception st 5:00 PM, tastefully done. We booked one of the cottages when we were in town for a wedding. The property is absolutely beautiful and the cottage was so quiet and comfortable, although it was slightly on the small side for two adults and two medium size dogs. The parking lot is teeny tiny, so be aware if you have a larger vehicle. The cottage was on the darker side due to being right next to redwood trees, but I didn't mind that at all. The sink in the bathroom was slow to drain which wasn't a big deal, and hopefully it's been fixed after I mentioned it at check out. The breakfast was on the better end of your usual continental breakfast and the staff will make you custom coffee drinks if you don't like the standard drip coffee. Would absolutely stay here again if we find ourselves up in Marin County. read more

The perfect, quaint little inn that feels a million miles away but is walking distance to all the cute shops and good coffee and restaurants in town. It's so lovely to step outside the inn and look up at sometimes snow-topped Mt. Tam. Many (all?) of the rooms have a wood burning stove and they provide a duraflame log, which is such a nice touch and good for people like me who otherwise would not know how to light a fire lol! They also have a tasty complimentary breakfast and relaxing evening reception in a room with floor to ceiling windows overlooking majestic redwoods. Being here reminds me how lucky I am to live in the Bay Area, with all of its natural beauty. read more

We had a wonderful stay at the Mill Valley Inn. Location is perfect, right in the heart of Mill Valley and right by trailheads. The room was really cozy. It was well appointed with a huge and comfy king bed, love seat and chair and ottoman. We had a huge balcony to hang out on. The bathroom was huge and had a soaker tub and a nice rain shower, albeit with disappointing low water pressure. Easy parking on site. The breakfast and happy hour was good, but you needed to get there early or things were picked over and never restocked. We stayed in one of the creek cottages, which was very private and cozy. The furniture and decor are well appointed and tasteful. The fireplace is a nice touch. The location is perfect and very walkable. The staff were all very friendly and professional. Keep in mind this is a smaller property therefore at times there may only be one staff member on site. We did have an issue at checkin but the staff and manager were very responsive; the service recovery was on par with the quality of the property. The included breakfast had a nice variety. They also offer a complimentary evening wine social. There isn't a spa on site however they do have a partnership with a local masseuse who can come to your room for a private massage. Mill Valley Inn makes for a lovely relaxing getaway. Overall we were very happy with our stay and will stay again when next in the area. read more

Some of the rooms have mold/mildew which is masked through cleaning products and air freshener. If you are allergic or have respiratory illness, this is not the place to stay. We had to leave and go elsewhere due to the mold and ended up paying for a room we could not use. Oh my goodness. We stayed at Mill Valley Inn for our destination mini-wedding in May and it was the most beautiful boutique hotel ever. The staff were extremely friendly and accomodating and all the amenities were just lovely. Even more, they offered a discounted rate for registering our stay and our family booked here on the discounted rate as well. The penthouse suite was spacious, beautiful, and just perfect for getting ready with my group of girls on the day of my wedding. The room plus the beautiful space outside with the woods outside provided the best setting for getting ready photos. We were also surprised with a bottle of champagne and dessert compliments of the hotel. I can't say enough good things about Mill Valley Inn, it will always hold a special place in my heart and I already want to come back to visit again! read more

I traveled to this Inn based on a friend's recommendation, w/a reservation I made several months ago. I checked in a few minutes before regular 4pm check in and was given a room. I explained that I was a very light sleeper and need to be in a quiet room. The receptionist explained this was not a very quiet room. I asked to be moved. She felt ill prepared to handle my request, so she phoned in a manager who refused my move request. Now I am in a room under the food service area (imagine heavy foot traffic), windows facing the stairs leading to the eating area and the parking lot. I will NOT return and will advise my friends accordingly. read more

We happened upon Mill Valley Inn by complete accident (or fate!). My wonderful boyfriend (now fiance) planned a weekend getaway for my bday. We picked Mill Valley because it wasn't too much of a drive, but enough of one to feel like a getaway. We actually made reservations and even checked in at another Jois de Vive hotel in Mill Valley...name is escaping me right now. But upon arrival, it was far from the romantic feel we were going for. Felt more like a business hotel. So after talking to the front desk to figure a way out of staying there, my bf found out that the company owned another hotel that would have more of the feel we were looking for. Not only that, but they were going to give us a nice discount since we had to 'move' to the new location and since we weren't happy with the first hotel. And here we were worrying about trying to get out of staying at the first place without a financial penalty (which is close to impossible at most hotels w/o a 24-hour cancellation notice). We were SO grateful for their flexibility and generosity! So off we went - to the Mill Valley Inn. It's right downtown Mill Valley. Parking can be a bit of a challenge, but luckily, we were able to find a spot in their small lot. And from the street view, you would never guess what beauty lies beyond the front of the hotel. We checked in - the front desk person was super friendly - and made our way back to our cottage. Gorgeous!!! To get there, we followed a wooden walkway and found our cottage at the end of the path, amongst redwood trees. The cottage had such charm!! I was in heaven - love at first sight, for sure. And upon entering our cottage, we found a bottle of complimentary wine and welcome note! Wow. I was impressed. They went above and beyond their call of duty for us. Anything they could do, they did and then some. We were staying 2 nights, but at first, we were only going to be able to have one night in the cottage. Somehow, one of the staff figured out a way to rearrange other guests so we wouldn't have to relocate rooms. Gotta love that! Then there was the breakfasts. I love breakfasts, but really, the atmosphere, views, and setting of the breakfast 'room' was what did it for me. The breakfast spread was beautifully presented, and the food was good. But whoever designed the hotel sure knew what they were doing when they put in floor to ceiling windows looking out onto the lush gardenesque hillside. Such a relaxing atmosphere. And they have a 'patio' (more like a balcony, but a big one, since it's on the 2nd or 3rd floor) right outside the breakfast room, where it's just as lovely to sit and sip coffee, or just stand and take in the views. Anywho, I can't say enough good things about this place. Yes, it's pricey, but it's a treat that's well worth it. Oh, and since it is downtown, you can walk to everything! We stayed at the Mill Valley Inn for a fun night out of the city and we enjoyed all that downtown Mill Valley has to offer! The Inn is centrally located, so it was easy to walk a few blocks for dinner at Small Shed Flatbreads and only a few more blocks to have dessert at the ice cream shop on Blithedale. Our room at the Inn was clean and decent sized with a great bathtub and comfortable mattress. We had our dog with us and he settled right into the peaceful setting. For Happy Hour they provided wine and snacks in their upstairs cocktail room which was a fun way to kick off our night out of town. Their staff was welcoming and kind and even walked us to our room when we checked in. I was also impressed with their pet policy. Some places restrict dogs over a certain size, but Mill Valley Inn knows that regardless of size some dogs can be obnoxious. To prevent disrupting other guests you are not allowed to leave you dog unattended in the room and if your dog disrupts the night of those around you then you must pay for their bill. Needless to say we kept an extra careful eye on our pup who was mostly well behaved and happily slept in the car when we walked to dinner. I highly recommend this place for a romantic getaway or just a fun night out of the city! read more

Mill Valley Inn is a gem in Mill Valley. It is a boutique inn in the main area in Mill Valley. Walking distance to all of the local restaurants and shops. I always book there when I am in town on business, not only because of the convenience, but for the incredible service and cozy/clean rooms. Service here has and is always top notch, every time I visit. The staff is always extremely accommodating and friendly. They reflect the friendliness of the town and the vibe of relaxation in this area. The rooms are very comfortable and cozy. Some of them even have fireplaces you can burn a wood fire in while you are there, adding to the experience. Also some of the rooms have balconies too which allows for fresh air in your room - gives you a natural pine tree/forest scent. Beds are very comfortable and the room shave been clean every time I have visited. Every evening they have wine in the dining area with great views of the woods. Also in the morning they have a fantastic continental breakfast. Probably one of the best ones I have had since my travels to Europe. I travel a lot and stay at a lot of different hotels and this one is a must if you are visiting Mill Valley. read more

We spent our 32nd wedding anniversary at the Inn, and we could not be happier with our choice. Stella at the desk provided us with information about everything we could hope to do in our time at the Inn; she's wonderful. We stayed in the first cottage, and it is beautiful--extremely comfortable bed, and the rooms are beautifully appointed. It was hard to leave the cottage to enjoy the town. The redwoods outside the door are awe-inspiring, so they finally drew us outside to walk just a few short blocks to Old Mill Park (unbelievable!!!) and the base of Mt. Tam, then happily wander the streets of Mill Valley. The staff at the Inn were so friendly and nice, they made our anniversary truly special. The breakfast is very nice, with lots to choose from. We missed the wine & cheese in the early evening, and we didn't give the available-for-use Trex mountain bikes a whirl this trip, but we will absolutely return to this amazing Inn. The room was pretty. Soaking tub was awesome. Their body wash and other toiletries products smelled like Lysol/409 cleaning products. Due to COVID, they sent breakfast up to our room every morning, it was continental. Instead of the wine and cheese, they gave us a small wine bottle inside the hotel and some pre-packaged snacks like peanuts. We got the King room with the mostly-private balcony that looked over a creek and tall trees. It was such a nice place to come back to every night. The bed was the best part, super comfy.
