Outdoor light next to small window with thin blind - too much light flooding into room at night!
    Patrick L.

Open for two days, I may be the first guest in room 114. Thankfully the A/C is working because it's HOT outside (96 degrees at 4PM). Room is modern and clean. Nespresso machine in-room. Super friendly front desk guy. Bed seems comfortable, pillows feel like inflatables, lol. No hangers or hanging space, that blows. I won't mention what I'm paying because it's ridiculously cheap (thanks Kayak $100!) Parking in front of the room, maybe a motel? This place has potential... *Update One window has a black-out curtain, other small window has a thin blind with a spotlight on the ceiling outside next to it - like sleeping with a light on! Housekeeping talking loudly and banging around empty room next door on Sunday morning - shh, please. Oh, and the auto-on bathroom light is no fun at 4AM (it's code, so I get it.) Overall, decent place and it's new. I hope it ages well... 4 stars - motel, not hotel.

Clean, friendly, with great design. No unnecessary crap to raise the rate. We were pleasantly surprised and would send our friends here.

The rooms were clean however there is no sound proofing. You could hear the people in the next room like you were in the same room.

I was surprised by how high the price was for an ordinary room with 2 doubles (with tax and fees, $329!), and we were put off by an additional fee of $15 per day in an unsecured parking lot! Here's what we liked about it: Beds were comfortable Small patio with chairs Pretty quiet from about 8pm to 6am Nice well tended courtyard Conveniently located Clean Here's what made it worth less than half what we paid: Absolutely no information in the room about anything at the hotel except the escape route from our room. Nothing about food, TV service, location of ice makers, etc. Incidentally with three floors they only had ice makers on the first floor The one lounge chair was wedged in between the bed and the patio door, but if you wanted to have your coffee there in the morning, no where to put down your cup. The in room coffee maker had enough to cartridges to make 3 cups of coffee in a room that has capacity for 4 people Only paper cups for the coffee Limited channels available, and if you wanted to access Prime or Netflix, you had to sign into your own account or pay a fee Only enough towels for 3 people Terrible lighting throughout, with the least strong lighting specially reserved for over the one sink in the anteroom to the bathroom, the only place available to do your makeup. Only grab and go food with long common tables if you wanted to eat in the lobby area. I paid over $20 for one medium sized coffee, a small blueberry scone and a one serving size of yogurt. Considering the price benefit, We will definitely not stay again.

Ambivalance by Marriott…read more Good price in an interesting beautiful area. Shoddy and chintzy reflects the price. Hotel room has thin walls so you hear your neighbors. Towels are low bid. Apathetic staff with no security of any kind. Read that; none and hold that thought or you'll wish you did. Room robbery common as are car smash and grab break-ins. The area and parking lots are notorious for smash n grabs and car trunks jimmied open. Good chance you're next. One room robbery occurred on our stay and tragic for the couple that lost their valuables. Locals say hotel staff is in on the crimes. Not prosecuted in California and Marriott will deny and distance themselves for any liability or any compensation in any situation. They are rehearsed with canned reactions if any. Close to food options and things to do. Not pet friendly. Lots and lots of strict rules. No futons no roll-aways no nothing. Breakfast not as good as Hamptons. Easy walking distance from Ionna and the horrible ChargePoint EV charging.

This small hotel is classified as a two-star property on Google, but I'm giving it five stars…read morebecause it truly exceeded my expectations for what it is. If you understand what a two-star hotel should offer, you honestly can't go wrong here. When I first arrived, the small lobby had a strong smell of chicken curry, and no one was at the front desk. I rang the bell... and instead of a receptionist, a tiny Chihuahua came out and stared me down. It was unexpected, to say the least. After about five minutes, the manager (Naveem) arrived and checked me in. He was accommodating and granted my request for an upstairs room. He even sells small bottles of water!! I was able to grab two for $1, which was convenient. The room itself was clean and fully equipped ....no bells and whistles, but it had everything you need: mini fridge, microwave, ironing board, hair dryer, central heat and AC. There were a few cosmetic issues (some wall scuffs and a door knob dent in the bathroom wall), but nothing that affected the functionality of the stay. My TV initially wasn't working, but Naveem sent a technician within a couple of hours who quickly fixed it. That responsiveness mattered. For two nights, my total was around $250 during Valentine's Day and Presidents' Day weekend...which is honestly not bad at all. You also get free self-parking and easy freeway access, making the location very convenient. There's even a Burger King about two blocks away if you need a late-night bite! Overall, for a quick 2-3 night stay in the San Rafael area, this place does the job and then some. Simple, affordable, and surprisingly reliable for its category.

My wife had made the reservation on one of the booking websites, so I didn't know what to expect. Nevertheless, I was exhausted and needed to sleep. At first glance, the room didn't look like much. On second glance, everything we needed was there, including a microwave and a mini fridge. The room is spacious and comfortable. The road noise was tolerable. The shades provided privacy with minimal light-leak. The climate control unit was efficient and remarkably quiet. The bed was oh, so comfy. I got the best night's sleep in weeks. I would gladly stay here again!

:This Motel Has BEDBUGS:::::…read more I stayed at North Bay Inn in San Rafael following surgery and had an extremely concerning experience. Within days of checking in, I began experiencing repeated insect bites and ultimately documented multiple bugs in the room with photo and video evidence. This created an unsafe and very distressing environment, especially while recovering from two surgeries and having limited mobility. I reported the issue to management expecting a reasonable and responsible response. Instead, I was met with denial and blame. I was offered only a minimal partial refund for unused nights if I agreed to sign a waiver, which was not a reasonable solution given the circumstances. I also requested to be moved to another room due to the conditions, but a workable accommodation was not provided. The situation was not handled with the level of care or responsibility that should be expected when a guest raises a health and safety concern. Due to the seriousness of the issue and lack of proper resolution, this matter has been escalated through appropriate channels. I strongly encourage anyone considering staying here to take this into account. No guest, especially one recovering from surgery, should have to deal with these conditions or this type of response.

The building was falling apart, old & not well maintained. I honestly don't want to go inside. The "office" was filthy and the receptionist ANITA had no customer service etiquette whatsoever. As soon as we opened the door to our room it was so stuffy & smelled like mildew + dust. The top blanket looks old, not washed & had stains on it. The pillow case had mascara stain and some hair strands.. When i turned on the AC unit dust came flying on my face (you can see on the pictures just how dusty and dirty the AC unit is). If they did clean the room it was definitely more than a half-ass job. We couldn't stand it we decided to check-out immediately and they refused to give us a refund even if we were only there for 10mins. The magnitude of this place's filthiness is beyond me. I should've checked the reviews first. So much for being so frugal. Never again! THIS BUSINESS NEEDS TO BE CLOSED.
