FRAUD ALERT Boyfriend & I came here on January 31st. We got massages which we paid the gratuity for that very day since we were charged right away. As of yesterday 2/27 I've been charged $86 by "The Inn on First" which I noticed immediately as either a mistake or fraud. I called them & front desk receptionist seemed very confused & even apologetic because of the fact I was there one month ago & not yesterday! I told her I would like to be refunded & she of course had to get the owner involved, understandably. The owner, Celia, calls me & already had a defensive rude tone to her voice which was confusing because of the situation. She claims that I had not been charged for the gratuity from the massages & that they had just now caught it & were charging me now. I told her that I know for a fact we had already paid for the gratuity based on the amount charged to my card which was the total cost of the massages including the gratuity. She argued stating my numbers were not accurate & that they again will be keeping my $86. I told her this is fraud & she knows it. & I will be putting a review on Yelp regarding this. She then changed up & said if I have an issue with the gratuity charge that I'll have to take it up with the massage employees as if they were a separate entity- which they may be but again, my credit card statement shows that it's "The Inn On First" that is charging me this $86 I responded to Celia by reminding her that this is HER BUSINESS & that she should be the one to resolve this! She responded by basically stating it's not her problem. Absolute fraud! We were intending on coming back and to this place soon but they lost our business & I'll be disputing this charge with my credit card company. CELIA YOU NEED BETTER CUSTOMER SERVICE PEOPLE SKILLS. My wife and I stayed here last minute on a recent weekend. The place was great. We stayed in the main house. They couldn't have been nicer or more welcoming. We got champagne at check in along with fantastic cookies. The room was well appointed with a fireplace and private hot tub in room. The shower too was spacious, clean, and powerful. Overall the place checked all the boxes and then some. The breakfast was over and above our expectations. Fresh fruit and a delicious homemade muffin to start. Cold juices and hot coffee. Yogurt and granola. All before the menu comes out with a custom made hot breakfast. My wife got avocado toast and I got an omelette. Both came with house made potatoes and mine had an option for a variety of toasts to choose from. All delicious and a great way to start the day. Really grateful to have found this place and already thinking about when we could go back. Also, perhaps most important, it's walkable to just about everything downtown, including the oxbow market and all the restaurants and shops in between, of which there are many. read more

I cannot say enough great things about The Inn on First. We were greeted as soon as we walked in and provided with info for our stay. We were walked back to our room and grab some freshly baked cookies on the way. The room was so cute and perfect for a romantic getaway. It had a heart shaped soaking tub, a large shower, a comfortable bed and a fireplace that was very powerful. They cook your breakfast fresh every morning and you have a choice between their regular menu items or the special of the day. They also have a yogurt and juice bar. They bring out coffee by the carafe. I ordered the avocado toast each morning because I loved it so much. He ordered the specials each morning and no matter what we ordered, it was delicious. They have free parking in the back and it's easy driving distance to downtown Napa and the Valley wineries. I definitely recommend The Inn on First. read more

This hotel exceeded my expectations and I can't wait to stay here again. I was lucky to get a great last minute deal for one night, Sunday - Monday, over Presidents' Day weekend. We stated in the Veraison king room, which had a fireplace and a large soaking tub. Everything was spotlessly clean. We were greeted with champagne and delicious snickerdoodle cookies with a nice touch of red sprinkles for Valentine's Day. So good! The staff were all very nice and welcoming. Stayed at the inn this past weekend and it was lovely. The owner was sweet in every way and even gave us glasses of sparkling wine when we showed up too early to check-in which was our bad. The room was clean. There was a fireplace and a thermostat. The large tub was a delight. There were even dog bowls and a bed for our dogs. The breakfast is made to order and delicious. The wife and I wanted to escape for the weekend. We booked a room this last Friday and Saturday. Ended up enjoying the place so much we stayed an additional night. The rooms are amazing. Comfortable with large jacuzzi tubs. They had rose pedals on the bed and chocolate waiting for my wifes arrival. The breakfast in the morning alone was worth the stay. Great friendly staff that is there to make sure you get everything you need and are comfortable. We will be going back.... probably soon lol Highly recommend this place. We booked the Noble Vineyard King Honeymoon Suite - Room No.9 on the 2nd floor, and there's only like 10 rooms at this place. This was our first time staying at a bed & breakfast so we were excited to see what it's all about. It was a contactless check-in. I appreciated the multiple communication efforts on their part to make sure that we had instructions on how to access our room, where to park, etc. Check-in was at 330PM (earliest was 2PM-ish w/their blessing). We had lunch plans in Napa Valley and did not want to leave our luggage in the car for a few hours unattended. You might say, but this is Napa. I don't trust leaving anything in my vehicle, unless I'm ok with it getting stolen. So, I'd asked Jim/Jamie via email if we could drop our stuff off in the lobby meanwhile we went to lunch and return at check-in. They said sure. The day of, I let them know we were on our way and would be dropping off our stuff around 11AM. I was happily surprised when they replied and said that nobody had stayed in the room the night prior, so we were welcome to check in as soon as we arrived. We got in just before 11AM. We toured the grounds and they were cute! Looked peaceful for sure. We entered the main house and it was completely dead. I then realized that this is where we would've left our things. I would not have felt comfortable leaving my things there because there was no one to watch it or store it some place. There was a private parking lot behind the place with like 8-9 parking spots? The room's bright yellow color was welcoming and just made the room seem bigger. According to the instructions left in the room, it stated that the fireplace was the only heat source in the room. It was a cold weekend. The fireplace is controlled by the old-timey device on the wall. You slide the marker to your desired temperature. Once your desired temperature is reached, the fireplace shuts off. After about 30 minutes, the fireplace was still going - meaning that the heat was not reaching the entire suite. So our bed area was still cold :( In desperation, I called Jim/Jamie at their after-hours number and explained the situation and asked if there was an alternative heat source (even though the instructions said otherwise). He informed me that I could use the thermostat on the wall. I had tinkered with it prior to calling, but it kept saying "OFf" on the screen and I told him this. He said there was a switch underneath that needed to be toggled on. The switch was hidden so I didn't see it. This would be good info to add on the instructions. After that, we were good to go!!! [BREAKFAST] We could not do breakfast on their outdoor patio because of the weather. However, I'm always down for having breakfast in our room w/ the fireplace lit. I was very impressed with their hot breakfast, felt like we were at a restaurant or something. I liked that the food had labels of what we were eating. [BATHTUB] I inspected the tub prior to filling it up. It "looked" clean. However as we were filling the tub, I noticed some particles forming at the bottom of the tub. They looked like sand and they formed a little trail as they settled to the bottom. My immediate thought was, it might be sediment in the water but the water was fine. I was hesitant to get in but my husband said it'd be fine, since it was just a little bit. The bubbles instruct to do 5-6 pumps. I was disappointed since it didn't do a whole lot, so I added like 11 total. Not a lot of bubbles formed. Perhaps a more concentrated formula would be better. [SINKS] I loved that we each had our own sink, even though I took over both :) [TOWELS] There was no housekeeping during our stay, however my issue was with the quantity of towels provided and the size. We were given 1 "large" towel each to use Friday night, Saturday, and Sunday morning. I think providing 2 of these would've been good. The towel was small for me and I could not fully wrap it around myself. I needed like 2-3 more inches so the ends could meet. Sad. They provided 2 bath robes. I'm not a bath robe person, so it was a little awkward for me to use this but, it did the job. We could hear the room next to us at night - not fun since we were trying to sleep. And they weren't even being obnoxiously loud, they were just having a conversation. that tells me the walls are thin. I had a heartache with the blinds in the room. They are light in color and the material is paper-like. Therefore, allowed the sun to come through prominently, which woke me up early. Not sure if their intention is to have the Napa sun wake you up. I think they could benefit from black out curtains or provide a sleeping eye mask. The bed was comfy for sure and a KING size. The comforter is what I'd expect from a place like this. On our last morning, we saved the complimentary sparkling wine and added it to our orange juice. instant mimosas ;) The complimentary truffle was a nice touch. read more

My fiancé and I stayed here for the second time over this past christmas. The first time we absolutely loved it, after checking in we were greeted with wine and baked goods; as well as with a spotless room and amazing customer service. I am a bay native and it was my fiance's first time in Napa, and it was nothing short of a dream come true. However, a year later, we came back in the midst of our wedding planning and was not particularly fond of, really any aspect of our experience. We were called and asked for our card information for incidentals, and instead, was double charged. Which was ok, accidents happen, but after spending upwards of an half hour trying to get in touch with someone, Celia was extremely unapologetic. I can't remember her verbiage but for how sloppy of a mistake it was there was not one sorry. When we got there, our plans fell through so we made it before check in was over instead of after hours. We got there around 4:45, and was told our room information would be in an envelope, and it wasn't there; and neither was an inn keeper. Also, pretty frustrating. We spent upwards of 25 minutes calling and listening to the phone ring behind the wall before Celia came and let us in our room. No acknowledgment of her double charging and then proceeding to having us wait after hours of traveling to get into our room. No wine or special touches either. We had recommended the Inn on First to our family to stay at for our wedding next year but after our experience, there's better and more consistent stays in Napa for the same price point. The rooms are clean and the christmas tree was beautiful. But we are pretty disappointed. read more

My partner and I were sold when we saw that this place offered heart-shaped soaking tubs in some of their rooms! Definitely worth the experience, as it is located a couple of blocks from the downtown scene, where there are plenty of: restaurants, clothing boutiques, wine tastings, convenience stores, and the Culinary Institute of America. Visitors walk through a gate on the left-hand side of the residence and locate their lodging based on their reservation details, as the main entrance is locked at all times. We had a unit in the building behind the main house, which was fairly easy to locate. The room was spacious and had most amenities that you would expect, with the exception that guests would need to go to the main house if they wanted to use a microwave. This most likely wouldn't impact most people, as eating out tends to be the norm when visiting the area. Random fact, you need to re-enter the code to your unit for the door to lock. I spent quite a bit of time trying to figure out why our door wasn't remaining closed. Each morning, complimentary breakfast was served in the main house. The hostess was friendly; she let us know about local recommendations and some highlights of places that we were planning to check out. Another draw to the place was that it stated that it had accessible units, one of which was the one that we were staying at. It was greatly appreciated that their welcome information was loaded up onto an iPad (usable by blind visitors) and that staff offered to rearrange furniture if the layout was inaccessible with mobility equipment. With that said, I am curious to see how a chair user would navigate getting in and out of the tub, as it might be difficult to maneuver around without safety bars for support. read more

This is our second time here. The last time was about 6 years ago, and Jim greeted us like long time friends. LOCATION is great. It's about a 15 minute walk to downtown Napa and the Oxbow Public Market (food hall) and a few minutes drive to the Outlets. By car, the wineries are about 15 to 20 minutes away. KEY POINT: this is their home. Not a hotel. It's not an Airbnb. Those who want either experience is not going to be happy here. There are no television, and there are pets (2 dogs) on property. Breakfast is served at designated times, and you might have to socialize with strangers. FOOD: aside from the anytime cookies and coffee/ tea, a complete breakfast is included. Jim will work around your allergies or food dislikes (I hate runny eggs) but you have to let them know! I noticed Jim likes to spice things up, so if you're a fan of bland food, speak up. Breakfast is usually served outside and you start with a DIY yogurt, cereal, fruit, danish buffet, with coffee and juice is already on the table. Once finished, you'll get served a hot breakfast entree. FOODIE TIP: You'll never get the same breakfast twice, as Jim documents what you had as past guests. Every morning is an adventure. EARTH FRIENDLY: This Bed and Breakfast is going for green! Since our last visit, they're added mini iPads to our room so we can listen to Apple Music. The archaic instructions that was once on laminated cards are replaced with pdf files found on the iPad. In the kitchen are ceramic mugs for coffee or tea, and homemade cookies available anytime (except during breakfast, which is from 8:30-10:30am). There's reusable water bottles to take to your room or on the road. In your Room is a coffee maker with homemade truffles. OUR ROOM: This visit we had room 4, which was much larger, brighter than our original visit, and had 2 sinks. As in all the rooms, we had our "jacuzzi" style tub. The room had shower gel, shampoo and conditioner mounted on the shower wall, so bring a loofah if you like that better than a wash cloth. Free WiFi is available to entertain yourself, since there's no tv. Or there's a community computer and lots of magazines downstairs. Just from the outside this place looks outstanding with it's landscaping. Lots of lavender which I love in the front yard. All the rooms look very well-appointed, especially our room overlooking the gardens. Our bedroom and bathroom were spacious, stylish, clean and quiet. There was both a huge walk-in shower and separate tub, plus individual sinks. We each had an individual outlet on either side of the bed for convenience. They also have body shower/shampoo/conditioner/handsoap dispensers. Waking up to a delicious breakfast served in the courtyard outside with umbrellas and lovely flowers all around was more than I had expected. We had time to talk with one of the owners extensively. He helped schedule our wine tours while there. Honestly, probably in the top two of B & B's I've ever stayed. read more

I have stayed at Inn on First a few times over the years most recently in October and December 2021. This place has the best breakfast out of any B&B/Inn I have stayed in wine country, they go above and beyond the usual continental breakfast fare with maybe a fritata thrown in. Their pastries, yogurt and homemade granola, and daily changing hot main course are all restaurant quality and a much better breakfast than you can get even compared to local restaurants. The rooms are well-appointed, and are cozy with nice fireplaces. I like their bath products and how they have switched to dispensers vs. small shampoo/containers which are less wasteful and more sustainable. Location is great and is walking distance to downtown Napa restaurants and tasting rooms. FYI, this place is adults only (a plus in my book) as well as dog-friendly. After booking what would be an amazing wine tasting experience at the Brown Wine Tasting Room (followed by a free spirited late afternoon of some additional wine tasting), my ever so wise wife booked us a room at "The Inn on First" bed & breakfast. At the time, I thought it was an unnecessary expense for a one night stay, and thought we could save some cash by sobering up and hitting the road that same night. However, after a mixture of wine tasting, beer tasting, and consuming hard liquor, I was thankful that my wife chose to book us a room. Since "The Inn on First" is a bed and breakfast (and not a traditional hotel), we were advised to check in no later than 6:30pm (otherwise the owners would not be available to provide us with keys to our room). When we initially arrived, we parked on the street in front of a neighboring home. However, Jim (one of the owners) instructed us that they have guest parking at the rear of the house (apparently the neighbors often complain about guests parking on the street). After my wife checked us in, we parked and met up with our buddies to explore downtown Napa. Around midnight that evening we stumbled into our room and passed out. Not until the next morning were we able to marvel at the coziness of our room, and the quaint beauty of the overall property. The first thing that we noticed was that the room was absent of a television, which we interpreted as a method of promoting guests to disconnect and enjoy the company of their significant other... :). Because we chose to sleep in, we had to quickly make our way to the house for breakfast. When we walked into the house, we were warmly greeted by other guests sitting at the family-style dining table. We were immediately greeted by Jim who had taken the time to memorize our names. Unbeknownst to me, my wife had shared with Jim that I am allergic to strawberries (although I sometimes indulge because they are so delicious!). Therefore, I was ecstatic (and appreciative) to see that Jaime (the cook and co-owner) had created a strawberry-less fruit medley just for me...talk about great customer service! After consuming a delicious, well-proportioned breakfast, my wife and I had shots of Port (available for guests on a small table in the living room), and headed back to our room for a bubble bath in our heart-shaped bathtub. On our way to check out (they're pretty lenient with their check out time) we passed through the beautiful outdoor "commons" area. Sadly we were not able to enjoy the cozy bonfire area. If we didn't have time constraints, we would have loved to share a couple bottles of wine while getting to know some of the other guests. My wife and I plan to make a return visit to "The Inn on First" in the near future (I feel like I always say this!). Next time around we will book a room for a couple of days in order to fully experience everything that they offer. Rumor has it that Jaime and Jim offer an amazing wine tour experience too! Another beautiful stay in this gorgeous home while wine tripping in the Napa Valley. The accommodations are absolute perfection - great huge shower, a lovely sunken tub, cozy room with a fireplace for warmth. Last time we stayed in the main house, but this time in a back unit. Either way - lovely stay. Jamie is a consummate host and his breakfasts continue to amaze and delight. I hate to spoil your visit and won't share all the surprising foodie delights but those scones... heaven on earth. The location is perfect for a quick walk into downtown for dinner, along with easy access to the highway for further adventure. I would give this place 10 stars if I could. My partner and I stayed here for one night and we were shocked by how nice it was for a very fair price. Easy parking, free bottle of champagne, homemade chocolate chip cookies, tea bar, clean room, VERY comfortable beds, nice two person bath, beautiful patio, soft robes and quiet rooms. But our favorite was our breakfast. My partner and I didn't know we were supposed to inform the bed and breakfast about dietary restrictions because we had never stayed in a bnb before. We told the young woman working when we got downstairs that my partner was vegan. They went out of their way to remake his breakfast even though we said it was not necessary and the food was phenomenal. My wife and I love this place. The Inn on First is one of the best places you can find in Napa. Nothing can possibly beat Jim and Jamie's hospitality and kindness. They serve the best gourmet breakfasts and everyone is raving about it - and rightly so! Our breakfast experience: My wife is a pescetarian so Jim prepared a vegan version of a sausage with poached egg and cheese. I wish I could describe in detail what was in it but I was too busy devouring and enjoying every bite. We booked our stay for two nights and we had delightful conversations with Jamie - he made us feel like we were old friends instead of guests. He recommended lots of place for us to visit and try. He's so nice and so knowledgeable. The place has a vibe that feels like you're home and you're family. It's very clean and quiet, and everyone is kind and respectful. We had to leave very early on Sunday as we were headed to Seattle. Jim prepared a to-go breakfast for us, which we picked up on our way out. What other inn or hotel would do this for a guest??!? After working during the pandemic and being parents with distant learning these parents needed a mini vacation. This was our first bnb and we are so in love! We can't wait to come back! Jaime and Jim were amazing! We loved how breakfast was brought to our room everyday at 9 am. We were able to check-in contactless but were able to say hi to Jim and Jaime! Our room was in the mansion so it was beautiful to get to see the inside. Our room was so cute! Comfy soft bed and had a tub for us to soak in after a day of wine tasting. No TVs which we loved. We enjoyed our breakfast every morning sitting near the window and just relaxing. No rush and just relaxing! There is an iPad in the room which was so informative! What really won us over was the breakfast. My husband and I loved the breakfast served. Not your typical continental breakfast. Perfect portions and Jim's creations was top notch. This Bed and Breakfast is INCREDIBLE! If you are looking for a beautiful inn that is actually CLEAN and that makes an amazing breakfast, this is it! I'm usually grossed out to sleep in hotel beds and they make sure to let you know they wash every single piece of bedding before each new guest, I genuinely appreciate that. They give you a small complementary bottle of champagne which is amazing because you can get orange juice in the morning for mimosas to enjoy with breakfast. We had an adorable private patio to relax on, and the chairs in front of the fireplace are great to just wind down while watching the fire and chatting. What a fabulous bed and breakfast. My husband and I stayed here for three nights, along with another couple. The inn was easy to find and parking in the rear lot was easily accessible. We were given some great recommendations on restaurants and wineries that were off the beaten path. Breakfast every morning was a wonderful treat. It's not easy to plan a romantic weekend wine tasting getaway during a pandemic, but The Inn on First made it easy to forget all about it. I spotted it on a review site and decided it looked like it would fit the bill...unique, upscale, and comfortable. I booked room #4 ("The Angel's Share") along with the Lover's Package (heart shaped rose petals on the bed, and a bottle of champagne.) Arrival at the inn was easy. The secluded parking lot in the back has a beautifully landscaped path to the mansion. The grounds are quite enticing, and only built the anticipation in us. Once inside, our room key was easy to obtain. The mansion is beautifully appointed and, if not for covid, it would have been the perfect place to meet and mingle with other guests. All I can say is that the main floor exudes "class." Once in the room, my lady was left speechless by the appearance. Room 4 is spacious, and tastefully decorated with a well planned mix of modern and antique features befitting of a historic mansion. The rose petals on the bed were absolutely amazing and filled the room with a luscious scent. I have roses at home, but none have such amazing petals such as these were! All I can say is that it was over the top! Champagne was at the ready, along with amazing homemade chocolate chip cookies and truffles. Absolute heaven! On top of that, the iPad in the room had romantic music playing, which was a very thoughtful way to set the mood. Very well done! After seeing the room, I completely understand why Jim and Jaime ask the no candles be brought to the inn. So I brought a handful of led votive lights from the dollar store, and that was a perfect substitute! Morning breakfast was absolutely amazing! Ours was a "pop tart" filled with chipotle ricotta topped with an over-medium egg and a berry sauce on the side. Oh my goodness, it was unbelievably delicious! We are already planning a return visit and will book the private wine tour as well. What a perfect escape from the pandemic! It will be hard to imagine how the Inn on First can be better without covid restrictions, but something tells me it is!! read more

Stayed here for 3 nights to celebrate an anniversary and I'm so glad I chose this bed and breakfast. I was recommended to come here years ago from a friend and only just got the time to make it out. The hosts were wonderful and very communicative so before we arrived we had info on parking, how to check in late, and info about the area. It was our first time in Napa so we had no idea what we were doing but Jim and Jamie gave us some great recommendations for wineries, breweries, and places to eat. We stayed in room 2: Crush and it was very cozy. The jacuzzi tub was very welcome to end our long days of hard work going wine tasting. Upon arrival we were greeted with cookies, port in the living room, and a split of Mumm sparkling wine. We ended up getting to the inn early and ran into one of the hosts on their way out to dinner but our room was ready so we settled in and went to find dinner in downtown. This place is in the perfect location because it's in walking distance of so many restaurants and tasting rooms but far enough away from the downtown noise. Breakfast. Yes, the food here is amazing. Everything is very creatively put together and beautifully plated. You start off with fruit salad and yogurt and a baked good of the day then you sit outside and a hot entree is brought to you. They have outdoor heaters for the chillier mornings. Coffee and orange juice is at every table. I really liked the seating style because you get a chance to meet and chat the other guests. A few times Jim would come by to talk to the guests and check in on our day plans. He made some great recommendations for us based on what wines we wanted to try. The backyard is lovely with lots of plants and a mini waterfall. The dining room has tea, hot chocolate, and cookies around at all times-including for late night snacking. There's a private parking lot behind the bed and breakfast but you'll get all of the info via email. My room didn't have tv or a mini fridge. I actually really liked taking a break from screen time since it gave us more time to talk and reconnect. I do wish we had a mini fridge though since I tend to eat only portions of food when I go out to eat. It looks like a lot of the other rooms have these amenities though so I'd recommend looking into the rooms before booking if this is important to you. Otherwise, our room had everything we needed-wine glasses with wine opener, a backpack with everything needed for a picnic, robes, and an in room iPad for music and white noise. We'll definitely be back in the future for a weekend getaway. read more

I should have all of my Yelp badges revoked! We stayed here four nights and I never checked in. We are back in Hayward and Yelp won't allow me to make an official check in. No matter. We stayed here; the stay was wonderful. We stayed in room 9, the Noble Vineyard. Everything about it was exquisite. Comfy leather chairs, King bed, MP3 player WITH stocked iPod, hot tub (maybe that's not what it's really called)... how about whirlpool? His and his sinks, a huge shower, coffee in the room, a cute balcony with table for two and nice quiet view. The grounds are gorgeous with lush greenery and lots of outdoor seating. The common rooms in the mansion are beautifully decorated. Complimentary port is a very nice touch. Breakfast is a standout. Jim creates delicious baked goods and creative hot breakfasts. Nearly everything is homemade. We were half tempted to go out for breakfast, but that would have been silly. The best breakfast in town is right here. The town of Napa is within easy walking distance. We planned our stay around a concert at Uptown Theater, which is very close. The location, besides being gorgeous, is also extremely convenient. I should add that for our last day we had no plans. Jim jumped in, asking what we'd like to do. My goal was to take some great photographs. With that in mind, Jim mapped out an entire day's tour. He also suggested a place to pick up lunch and a winery for a picnic to eat said lunch. The places we visited were beautiful and fantastic photo ops. Lunch was delicious and the picnic was perfect. None of this would have been possible without the thoughtful and knowledgeable recommendations of our hosts. Our whole stay was very special. read more

I gave this beautiful B&B 4 stars instead of 5 for 2 reasons. One because the cancellation policy is just too difficult for us and the only reason that we probably won't stay here again, no matter how you look at it or how far in advance you cancel you're going to take a $$ hit for it! I wish the had a wait list for people who would probably love to come last minute so to cover for those that need to cancel. I ended up getting sick several days before our trip but we just couldn't accept the financial loss so we came anyway and had a lovely time overall. Pros: The grounds were absolutely beautiful. Our outside room "#7 Encampment" was spotless, comfortable, large, with a refrigerator, coffee pot, fireplace, jacuzzi tub, shower & private patio. The lobby area was beautiful. The dining room area was a bit of a tight fit when being enjoyed by everyone but definitely still comfortable and relaxing. Wonderful Tea choices available for anytime. The outside 'shared' patio area was lovely with a firepit to use whenever you like. Free parking available in the back. The owners/hosts Jamie and Jim were both very nice. Checking in and out was easy Cons: The cancellation policy was the biggest problem. While the breakfasts were unique and quite tasty there is no choice in what you get. Each breakfast had only one egg for protein and was heavily bread laden with thick cornmeal one morning, thick toast for grilled cheese another and very thick focaccia bread yet another morning. Although they were all tasty I prefer to have less bread carbs, more veggies. We came to the lobby only one evening (New Year's Eve) around 11:30pm for the free Port but the bottle was empty. Our patio light was out 2 of 3 nights before it was repaired and so we never got to use it in the evening. There is no TV in the rooms or anywhere else. I'm not sure why because if it's for quiet they didn't really hit the mark because although overal the environment was quiet we could here the loud spa jets of other rooms in the late evening as well as dogs barking. OVERALL: The only reason I probably won't be back is just the cancellation policy. read more

There is really no way for me to describe just how much I enjoyed my stay at the Inn On First. To begin, the inn itself is lovely. The place belongs in Home & Garden Magazine. Our room could not have been any cleaner. I would have gladly eaten off the bathroom floor. The bed was comfortable and the sheets were as soft as silk. The in-room hot tub, fireplace and personal balcony didn't hurt either. However, what makes the inn really special are the innkeepers. Jamie and Jim are two of the kindest, most welcoming individuals I have ever come across. They truly go out of their way to make sure their guests feel as welcome as possible. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Jamie, and if I could i'd move into their inn permanently. Siting and chatting with Jamie was one of the highlights of this trip for me, and leaving the inn made me quite sad. From what i've gathered, Jim is a retired chef. He puts his brilliant skills to work by preparing breakfast daily. His creations and talent are worthy of their own cookbook. If one is ever published I'll be sure to buy it (immediately). Not only were his dishes beautiful, they were also ridiculously delicious. It was difficult to believe we were eating at a B&B and not a five star gourmet restaurant. While we were there Jim also set out fabulous homemade cookies, scones, chocolate truffles and churros. The churros were the best i've ever had, and i'm from Miami so that says something. Jim even makes their bread from scratch! From the moment we were greeted by Mercedes, each of our needs, both actual and potential were addressed immediately. From food allergies to dinner reservations. When a mix-up become evident concerning our reservation, both Mercedes and Jamie bent over backwards to accomodate us to the best of their ability. The attention to detail at the inn is beyond anything one could ever hope for or imagine, from the picnic bags in each room to the filtered water at each faucet, the daily snacks placed in the rooms, the umbrellas made available to guests, the stainless steal water bottles (the inn is green), the free wifi and the iMac in the living room complete with a printer for guests. These folks even have port wine available in the living room next to the fire place around the clock! My stay at the inn was my first experience at a b&b, and i've been officially converted. I doubt that any other inn could come close to the standard set by the Inn On First. Our stay was truly perfect. I could literally go on and on about this place and still could not do it justice. I will absolutely be back and trust that these folks will be around for a very very very long time. They know and love what they're doing! read more

I'm a super fan of this amazing place. Jamie and Jim are the nicest people you will ever meet. They make you feel right at home and you will never want to leave. The attention to detail to make sure they exceed your expectations. The place is so clean and romantic. The fresh and most amazing cookies always out for you. The five star breakfast. And this is not your normal hotel waffles and cereal. Just take a look at the pictures I listed here. And the one thing I do not understand is the low rates. Local hotels are almost double. And the stay here was far better then any hotel I have ever stayed in. You will not be disappointed. Just think this place now has 380 five star reviews and no negative reviews. I bet you can't find any other place to stay in Napa with these rates and pricing. I'm glad I trusted these reviews and stayed here for a few days. read more

My boyfriend and I stayed in room number 2 (if I remember correctly) for 2 nights last month. Shortly after making your reservations, Jim and Jamie will contact you about your dietary restrictions if any and let you know the address to the parking lot. You're greeted with homemade truffles and a small bottle of sparkling wine. Our room had a fireplace (YES!!!) and a hot tub in the corner and the most comfortable bed we slept on throughout our entire trip (according to the bf - but I do agree). They also provide a cute picnic backpack if you are looking to have a picnic at one of the wineries during your stay. Unfortunately we didn't get the chance to use it..next time maybe! There is also no television in the rooms or fridges just so you are aware. But you really don't need it. And they express that you are more than welcome to use the mini fridge in the living room common area if you need anything refrigerated - Just be sure to label with your room number! During breakfast on both mornings, Jim took the time to talk to us about our day's itinerary and give suggestions on wineries we should visit. LOCATION: The location is also great, as downtown Napa is a short 10-15 minute walk away if you don't feel like driving. Oxbow and the Outlets are also a short drive away. FOOD: They have the BEST chocolate chip cookies ever! And Jim leaves it out for you to help yourself to. I had one both nights for my midnight snack. I could only imagine what it tasted like fresh and hot out of the oven. I debated buying his cookbook just so I could have his recipe for the cookies. They also have their own coffee blend that they serve at breakfast that's pretty good. Our whole trip, that was the only coffee my bf deemed as good, as opposed to just ok LOL. They also have a wide assortment of tea leaves if you're more of a tea drinker. I've heard and read that Jim takes note of what he served you for breakfast on your visits so you never have a repeat meal which is a very nice touch. However because you don't have a choice as to what you are being served for breakfast (there's usually cereal, yogurt, fresh fruits - with berries!, a small side thing such as mini cinnamon knot or a scone, along with your main entree), if you're a picky eater you may not enjoy breakfast. They do ask you about your dietary restrictions so you don't need to worry about not being able to eat what they are serving. Both mornings we had interesting breakfast entrees with no meat haha...we're both meat-lovers so that was a little disappointing but it was still good and at least it wasn't a continental breakfast. Overall, great place to stay. I would however recommend Inn on First more for couples than groups of friends basing on the other guests I encountered on my stay and the set up of the rooms (all rooms have hot tubs in the room and 1 bed - Queen, King, or California King depending on the room). Trust the ratings! Our stay here with Jim and Jaime was so pleasant, comfortable, and enjoyable. We checked in early (thanks, Jaime!) because no one had stayed in our room the night before and left for a day of wine tasting. The Inn on First feels like you're staying with relatives for the holidays -- things are special, there's always delicious food out for you to much on, and the fridge is always full. THE COMMON AREA They greet you with a small bottle of Mumm champagne in the fridge downstairs just for your room and some Prager Port out at all times for guests to enjoy. There's a stellar tea and coffee bar in the corner of the living room with amazing steeping cups and every flavor of tea you could hope for. If that's not your thing, there's also coffee, hot coco, etc. You name it. They provide water canteens for the rooms as well as for guests to take to wineries for the day with them -- and recommend 1 bottle per winery tasting. Very thoughtful and very smart. There's a grand piano and a fireplace in the common area, as well as a nice window to read the morning paper by. THE ROOMS Each room is beautiful and cozy, with a fireplace-heater that warms the rooms up very efficiently. We booked the smallest room at the Inn and it was still very good sized. We had a desk and the fireplace connected the bedroom to the bathroom. Specifically - we got to sit in the couples-sided hot tub with the heater-fire going, looking out onto the fall leaves. THE NAPA B&B experience! There's also a huge shower and a nice bathroom in each room. They provide an insulated, wine carrier backpack for each room to borrow, in case you want to picnic rather than go wine tasting. They also have an iPad, which serves as the guestbook, with tips, recommendations, and lovely music to greet you as you enter the room. THE FOOD The food was amazing! I can see why Chef Jaime is so popular and famous! Our breakfast was a Matzo-ball in a vegetable broth with homemade bread. I swear, I would not have known it was vegetarian if I hadn't been told; it was so savory and amazing. They leave the most amazing chocolate truffles in a small baggie in your room -- I had mine on my drive back to the bay area and just about melted and died. These are divine. There's also fresh-baked cookies out at all times, and a yoghurt/granola/berries bar at breakfast. There's fresh pastries and other "cold" breakfast items available, with your hot entree coming out when you sit at their beautiful communal table. Coffee was hot, and OJ was fresh squeezed. THE SERVICE Jim and Jaime were kind, thoughtful, and so professional throughout our stay. They recommended SolBar, Vincent Arroyo Winery, and Market to us, and were eager to share their favorite details about the area. The rest of the staff was friendly and very professional. OVERALL I would happily stay here again and recommend it to anyone who wants to have a weekend getaway, romantic rendezvous, girls trip, or Napa experience. read more

Wow! My boyfriend wanted to take me here for the weekend. The place is beautiful outside and it has a homey feeling. The place inside is freakin gorgeous. The living room was super comfortable and fire place was so cozy. The have a tea bar , so many to pick from. This place has the most amazing cookies I have ever had in my life. The cookies alone are going to make me return. Our room was amazing! Definitely a honeymoon suite. The tub was the most relaxing with a fire place. Pretty amazing I must say. The shower was also very nice. The breakfast in the morning was very good and chef quality for sure. I'm not sure what pricing was but we will definitely be returning. Finally made it back here after five years... this time we brought my folks along. We were greeted by Jim when we checked-in on Sunday afternoon. He made us feel like we're back at home again. So sweet!!! Jim recommended and made the reservation for us at Celadon for dinner. Then he showed us to our two rooms in the garden suites downstairs. My husband and I stayed in room 8 Heritage Estate (twin sinks in the bath area), which is more spacious than room 7 Incantment that my folks stayed in. These two rooms were right next to each other. Both rooms are lovely... with heart-shaped whirlpool tubs, nice furnitures and elegant and lovely decor. We enjoyed every bit of our stay. After dinner, we came back to the inn to hang out in the main mansion's living room. We enjoyed playing a game of chess, playing on the baby grand piano, while sipping on some red wine, complimentary of the Inn. Oh, and Jim's home-baked cookies were amazing! The next morning, we enjoyed the wonderful breakfast that Jim prepared for us -- thinly sliced potatoes and caramelized onion topped with sunny side up egg on a homemade flatbread, and it came with a sauce which we were told was simmered for over 4 hours. I don't think I'm doing any justice describing this dish... luckily I took a picture. Jamie came to join us toward the end of our breakfast and we were in awe listening to his amazing stories -- how they lived through the Sonoma fire in the fall of 2017... housing the fire fighters at the inn and doing all their laundries etc. They are truly amazing people. My folks enjoyed their stay so much that even before we checked-out, they've called their friends and bragged about this lovely home. We will for sure to come back again soon.
