Great stay at Cedar Gables Inn! Stayed for 1 night. Nice and quiet with a beautiful neighborhood to walk around in. Easy check-in and check-out process!

Such an amazing stay! Wonderful staff who are extremely helpful! Gave recommendations for the area and made us feel at home the entire time! The breakfast was an outstanding 2 course meal with coffee and juice. Super close to downtown. Cute outside, with multiple sitting/hangout areas. The most perfect stay and would recommend to anyone!!!

This is a wonderful old inn, designed by the noteworthy British-born architect Ernest Coxhead, in 1892. The "open plan" of the main level room was way ahead of its time in 1892 (way before Frank Lloyd Wright), and the redwood woodwork is exquisite. Some of the rooms are smaller than others, and there are narrow, winding staircases to get to some of them. Make sure your mobility needs are met by checking with the manager first, to make sure you can manage to stairs to your room! The stairs creak as you go up, a charming aspect of an old building. We were greeted by the manager Nichole, who gave us good recommendations about where to walk in town, and also restaurant ideas. This is not the kind of inn where you're served tea and cookies in the afternoon, so don't be expecting that. You get breakfast consisting of coffee, OJ, muesli/oats that had been soaked overnight and served with fruit and whipped cream, then a hot entree that in our case included pancakes or avocado toast with a fried egg on top and a side of salsa. Entrees vary depending on the day. Food was very good and the service from Nichole was very friendly. She has a higher amount of energy than my wife and I combined, and she is obviously enthusiastic about her job. Rooms include towels, soap and hand lotion dispensers, free Wi-Fi (no password needed), and a small Keurig coffee maker in the room, though it was somewhat hard to use. Coffee starts being served at 8:00am in the main room, so maybe just wait for that. There are no robes or slippers in the rooms, so just bring your own. Other B&Bs may have those, but other places are more expensive too, so there's that. This is a wonderful historic inn, with all the quirks and charm of an old building, and as long as you know what to expect, you'll love it. It is located in a historic district of old homes, and is very walkable. From here it is a short walk to downtown via the River Walk, and Fuller Park is also a few blocks away. Don't miss seeing the adjacent Churchill Manor, and the Manasse Mansion. I look forward to spending another night at the Cedar Gables Inn one day.

I used their website to make a reservation 3 weeks in advance. I was charged 4 days in advance. When I arrived the day of my check in nobody answered the doorbell. When I called & said I was here to check in, I was told "we are full there aren't anymore check ins for the day" I was confused as I had not checked in and had a confirmation email from the website. The woman arrived and told us they were full for the night despite me having a confirmation email plus my credit card being charged 4 days prior for the night. Long story short, she called the owner John Patel & they over booked their hotel & we did not have a room at their hotel. Their owner was gas lighting and blaming ME for them over booking their hotel. He was "on vacation " and could care less about his guests. DO NOT book this hotel unless you're expecting to show up for you booking (that you paid for) & not having a room for the night. I have traveled to 20+ countries and all over the United States and NEVER have experienced this. Unacceptable. I spoke with the owner John Patel who told me they're going to have to figure "what happened " but he was not helpful what so ever. We had a room booked at this hotel, that was paid for & they over booked their hotel. He also told me he would have me removed from his hotel premises (despite proof of booking)

My stay was lovely and the hospitality was great. This is a charming B&B experience. Welcoming staff, clean accommodation, tasty meals. Well done!

Overall, average stay here in Count Bonzi's suite. More details below. Highlights: -Great location within walking distance to downtown, at a good price. -Very safe area (so is all of Napa) -Historic inn with a rich history. No ghosts as far as I could tell. -Easy, free parking -Good quality cold breakfast and juice -Two times for breakfast - 8:30 am and 9:15 am -Nice furniture, decor, bedding, and mattress -Nice staff Disappointments: -Poor quality hot breakfast. Eggs Benedict had an overdone, gross tasting egg with terrible hollandaise sauce if you can call it that. Two bites and could not eat any more. -Coffee with breakfast is also terrible. Hint of dishwasher water at the finish -Keurig in room was a cheap model, difficult to use -No late night cookies or snacks (we've been to many bed and breakfasts with cookies or tea in the afternoon or evening) -Pillows too soft. Had to stack them to avoid a sore neck -Mirror in bathroom was too tall for me. The makeup mirror was a nice substitute though, but had to hunch down a bit to use it. -Hard to regulate temperature in the room. Was often too cold even with the fireplace space heater (but this is a historic inn, so not much they can do) -Same with water temperature. Hard to regulate and keep it consistent throughout shower. Again, historic inn with plumbing to match -Floors got my bare feet dirty when walking around -No slippers or robes -Strange closet that made hanging up clothes and organizing difficult

Returning to the BnB after a night of fine dining

I was convinced to splurge (relatively) on a quirky room at Cedar Gables to spend time with my SO and two of her friends (I'm not a typical wine country person). When I've stayed in BnBs before, I've been wowed by the hospitality--the interactions with the staff, the local recommendations, the food, the extra perks ("take some pastries for lunch!"). With that in mind Cedar Gables fell short. This wasn't all too different from staying in a clean motel that happened to be run out of a historic building (and had a narrow check-in window, between 3-6pm sharp). The staff is super hands-off. We did get a pleasant greeting with instructions on our arrival, but that was it. The breakfast was tasty but unmemorable: a small "oats, yogurt, fruit" dish and a breakfast burrito. VERY strangely, the woman who served it to us did not speak to us other than to confirm my SO's dietary restrictions (which, kudos to them, they followed). No hello, no good morning, no nothing. The vibe was eerie and she was only present to serve us, then she immediately retreated to the kitchen. Even the staff at Best Western in Sonoma were more friendly in the morning than the staff here. The room we stayed in was comfortable and clean, but sparse. (It was the disability accessible room, which we didn't need but was available). No dresser or table for placing items. Good location in Napa, and too bad it was raining so we couldn't hang out on the patio. However there was a truck with a flat tire, full of junk in the yard? Maybe it was there temporarily? 3 stars - OK - sums up exactly how I feel. Sounds like there may be new ownership. Perhaps as they settle into managing the place, they'll warm up to their guests. Because warmth is for sure the standard that wine country has set for itself at this point.

FRAUD ALERT…read more Boyfriend & I came here on January 31st. We got massages which we paid the gratuity for that very day since we were charged right away. As of yesterday 2/27 I've been charged $86 by "The Inn on First" which I noticed immediately as either a mistake or fraud. I called them & front desk receptionist seemed very confused & even apologetic because of the fact I was there one month ago & not yesterday! I told her I would like to be refunded & she of course had to get the owner involved, understandably. The owner, Celia, calls me & already had a defensive rude tone to her voice which was confusing because of the situation. She claims that I had not been charged for the gratuity from the massages & that they had just now caught it & were charging me now. I told her that I know for a fact we had already paid for the gratuity based on the amount charged to my card which was the total cost of the massages including the gratuity. She argued stating my numbers were not accurate & that they again will be keeping my $86. I told her this is fraud & she knows it. & I will be putting a review on Yelp regarding this. She then changed up & said if I have an issue with the gratuity charge that I'll have to take it up with the massage employees as if they were a separate entity- which they may be but again, my credit card statement shows that it's "The Inn On First" that is charging me this $86 I responded to Celia by reminding her that this is HER BUSINESS & that she should be the one to resolve this! She responded by basically stating it's not her problem. Absolute fraud! We were intending on coming back and to this place soon but they lost our business & I'll be disputing this charge with my credit card company. CELIA YOU NEED BETTER CUSTOMER SERVICE PEOPLE SKILLS. Interestingly enough this apparently happens to people every so often here which leads me to believe we were targeted by her!

Yogurt and granola. All before the menu comes out with a custom made hot breakfast. My wife got avocado toast and I got an omelette. I ended my night with a shower and after waiting about 10 minutes the water never got hot. It fluctuated from cold to lukewarm at best. The water pressure is also absolutely horrible. It kept going from a light stream to drips at times. I had to keep turning the water on and off to increase pressure. Additionally, the shower head would not stay upright. I tried everything and it kept going lower and lower. I would actually avoid the shower altogether if you can help it. It took AGES to wash my hair. You're better off with the sink since it has much better pressure. I would have been a little less upset about the shower and issues I experienced with everything else if there was someone on site to ask for help or assist me. To be fair, I didn't reach out with my issues so it is possible that they would have been very responsive and fixed the shower issue quickly. I would stay here again for the aesthetic and proximity, but everything else kind of put me off.

It was more than a dream, such a wonderful little B&B. The modern look and design felt as if we were standing right in a pottery barn catalog. We stayed in the Laurel cottage, which I highly HIGHLY recommend! It's still attached to another cottage but was extremely secluded as the property was a little further out away from the main house and main patio area. We even had our own little garden to the side with a table & chairs! The cottage itself was absolutely wonderful. Extremely spacious with a cal king bed, which by the way, was too die for. The sheets were amazingly comfortable and made it tremendously hard to get out of bed in the mornings, but a dream to come back to after a long day of shenanigans. The bathroom floor, get this, has heated floors! The bathtub was incredibly spacious, big enough to fit two people. The fireplace was also a great addition and made our stay wonderfully cozy. Breakfast is served at 8:30 and 9:15! You have to tell them which time you prefer. All food is gluten free and they are very accommodating, always asking if you have any food allergies, etc. The breakfast was delicious and they always have these wonderful treats at the tea/coffee station in the main house. The staff were incredibly nice and welcoming! I highly recommend this place for any couple looking for a sweet romantic getaway. The location is great as it's only about half a mile from downtown, close to a bunch of food eats & wine bars! Make sure to book early as there are only limited rooms/cottages.

We had a great weekend stay at this cute, quiet spot. It's in a great location--close to downtown…read moreNapa but still peaceful and secluded. They did have EV chargers and both types - Tesla charger and a regular EV charger, which was really convenient. A small suggestion: I think pump bottles for soap would be a nice touch, just to make things a bit more practical. The place had such a cozy, quaint vibe, it felt like we had the whole place to ourselves since it was so quiet. We did venture to the main space and it was empty with some tables - it could use a bit more warmth, maybe with some snacks or little touches to make it feel more like home. Breakfast was delivered to our room and it was healthy and delicious. Overall, a very relaxing and enjoyable stay! Definitely recommend it if you're looking for a peaceful getaway.
