This is quite the inn to stay at while in Napa. We stayed for 3 days and 2 nights while in Napa and our stay here was pleasant. We stayed in the Gables Suite and was at the top floor. It is a historic inn so be prepared for the historic feeling with some creaky floors (which is not too bad). Our suite was quite spacious and had a very homey feeling. Everything was great in our suite but the AC on the last night of our visit kept us up all night. The AC kept creaking and making loud noises as if there was something inside the AC trying to get out. Breakfast was very delicious and offered great options. There is limited parking inside the property but plenty of parking on the street. Our suite came with a mini fridge. Our towels did not get replaced during our stay but we did ask and he did kindly apologize for that. The man who greets you is very welcoming and gives great recommendations. read more

Wonderful stay at Cedar Gables Inn. We had a great room, bed, breakfast and host. Really enjoyed it!

This is a wonderful old inn, designed by the noteworthy British-born architect Ernest Coxhead, in 1892. The "open plan" of the main level room was way ahead of its time in 1892 (way before Frank Lloyd Wright), and the redwood woodwork is exquisite. Some of the rooms are smaller than others, and there are narrow, winding staircases to get to some of them. Make sure your mobility needs are met by checking with the manager first, to make sure you can manage to stairs to your room! The stairs creak as you go up, a charming aspect of an old building. We were greeted by the manager Nichole, who gave us good recommendations about where to walk in town, and also restaurant ideas. This is not the kind of inn where you're served tea and cookies in the afternoon, so don't be expecting that. You get breakfast consisting of coffee, OJ, muesli/oats that had been soaked overnight and served with fruit and whipped cream, then a hot entree that in our case included pancakes or avocado toast with a fried egg on top and a side of salsa. Entrees vary depending on the day. Food was very good and the service from Nichole was very friendly. She has a higher amount of energy than my wife and I combined, and she is obviously enthusiastic about her job. Rooms include towels, soap and hand lotion dispensers, free Wi-Fi (no password needed), and a small Keurig coffee maker in the room, though it was somewhat hard to use. Coffee starts being served at 8:00am in the main room, so maybe just wait for that. There are no robes or slippers in the rooms, so just bring your own. Other B&Bs may have those, but other places are more expensive too, so there's that. This is a wonderful historic inn, with all the quirks and charm of an old building, and as long as you know what to expect, you'll love it. It is located in a historic district of old homes, and is very walkable. From here it is a short walk to downtown via the River Walk, and Fuller Park is also a few blocks away. Don't miss seeing the adjacent Churchill Manor, and the Manasse Mansion. I look forward to spending another night at the Cedar Gables Inn one day. read more

I used their website to make a reservation 3 weeks in advance. I was charged 4 days in advance. When I arrived the day of my check in nobody answered the doorbell. When I called & said I was here to check in, I was told "we are full there aren't anymore check ins for the day" I was confused as I had not checked in and had a confirmation email from the website. The woman arrived and told us they were full for the night despite me having a confirmation email plus my credit card being charged 4 days prior for the night. Long story short, she called the owner John Patel & they over booked their hotel & we did not have a room at their hotel. Their owner was gas lighting and blaming ME for them over booking their hotel. He was "on vacation " and could care less about his guests. DO NOT book this hotel unless you're expecting to show up for you booking (that you paid for) & not having a room for the night. I have traveled to 20+ countries and all over the United States and NEVER have experienced this. Unacceptable. I spoke with the owner John Patel who told me they're going to have to figure "what happened " but he was not helpful what so ever. Be aware of an unethical owner (John) and unfair business practices at this hotel. We were planning a family reunion at this hotel and made several reservations in January 2026, and then 20 days later the hotel unilaterally cancelled the reservations with no reason given in the email notification. When we followed up with the hotel, they (Tim) said they had to cancel our reservations because they switched over to a new system but they are working on a solution to "honor" our reservations. Well, this never happened. The hotel made the rooms available on their website at a higher price (which is price gouging). For the next 8 days, we followed-up with the hotel and they assured us they are still working on a solution. Today I spoke to the owner (John) and he was extremely rude, aggressive and accused us of trying to "cherry pick" the lower price. I told him we just want our original reservations to be honored by the hotel. He told me the new prices reflect "fair market price" and we can go find another hotel if we want. At this point in the conversation, I told him that the confirmed reservations served as a legal contract and canceling it to make the rooms available at a higher price is not only unethical but also a breach in contract. He became very defensive by this remark and said to let the lawyers deal with that. For the room that I reserved, the price difference is only about $200 for the 4 nights, however given the owner's rudeness, aggressive behavior and unwillingness to help, we will not stay at this hotel EVER, unless a new owner takes over. Our recent stay at the Cedar Gables Inn was excellent. We had two rooms that were both so charming. And the inn itself is so beautiful and interesting. Nicole was an amazing host, very personable and helpful. Breakfast was delicious and I had no issues at all arranging for a gluten free option, which was much appreciated. Nicole helped us with directions to the restaurant where we had reservations and it was easily walkable, as is all of downtown Napa. I can't wait to go back. So much more fun than a big box hotel. No offense to the big hotels, they have their strong points, but it would be hard for them to provide the kind of experience that you get at Cedar Gables. read more

Highlights: -Great location within walking distance to downtown, at a good price. -Very safe area (so is all of Napa) -Historic inn with a rich history. No ghosts as far as I could tell. -Easy, free parking -Good quality cold breakfast and juice -Two times for breakfast - 8:30 am and 9:15 am -Nice furniture, decor, bedding, and mattress -Nice staff Disappointments: -Poor quality hot breakfast. Eggs Benedict had an overdone, gross tasting egg with terrible hollandaise sauce if you can call it that. Two bites and could not eat any more. -Coffee with breakfast is also terrible. Hint of dishwasher water at the finish -Keurig in room was a cheap model, difficult to use -No late night cookies or snacks (we've been to many bed and breakfasts with cookies or tea in the afternoon or evening) -Pillows too soft. Had to stack them to avoid a sore neck -Mirror in bathroom was too tall for me. The makeup mirror was a nice substitute though, but had to hunch down a bit to use it. -Hard to regulate temperature in the room. I had a wonderful time here. For a historic inn it felt very clean and well kept. The flowers outside alone are stunning. I do wish we had gotten a tour because we didnt utilize the back or side outdoor seating at all. Parking is a small lot in front but tons of free and easy street parking as well. We never had an issue. I enjoyed the breakfast they offered, although I wish they offered options for their entrees. I liked their eggs benedict! It tasted fresh and I loved the peppers it was a great, unexpected touch! The only issue we really had was our room was on the stairs so we could hear people going up and down. We booked room Gable Suite. When we arrived we found out this room has very steep narrow stairs, which are not save for seniors (my husband 75 with bad knees). We decided to find different place. We asked for refund, but we been told only owner can make this decision , but he not in town. I was convinced to splurge (relatively) on a quirky room at Cedar Gables to spend time with my SO and two of her friends (I'm not a typical wine country person). When I've stayed in BnBs before, I've been wowed by the hospitality--the interactions with the staff, the local recommendations, the food, the extra perks ("take some pastries for lunch!"). With that in mind Cedar Gables fell short. This wasn't all too different from staying in a clean motel that happened to be run out of a historic building (and had a narrow check-in window, between 3-6pm sharp). The staff is super hands-off. We did get a pleasant greeting with instructions on our arrival, but that was it. The breakfast was tasty but unmemorable: a small "oats, yogurt, fruit" dish and a breakfast burrito. VERY strangely, the woman who served it to us did not speak to us other than to confirm my SO's dietary restrictions (which, kudos to them, they followed). No hello, no good morning, no nothing. The vibe was eerie and she was only present to serve us, then she immediately retreated to the kitchen. Even the staff at Best Western in Sonoma were more friendly in the morning than the staff here. The room we stayed in was comfortable and clean, but sparse. (It was the disability accessible room, which we didn't need but was available). No dresser or table for placing items. Good location in Napa, and too bad it was raining so we couldn't hang out on the patio. However there was a truck with a flat tire, full of junk in the yard? Maybe it was there temporarily? 3 stars - OK - sums up exactly how I feel. Sounds like there may be new ownership. Perhaps as they settle into managing the place, they'll warm up to their guests. I absolutely love this Inn. I have now stayed at Cedar Gables twice and will most definitely be back again. It's always such a pleasure to visit this beautiful, historic and well run inn. The beds are soft, the rooms are very well done and the Owners John and Maria are amazing. They truly are the nicest people who care about their guests. Their breakfasts they provide are out of this world. If you're visiting Napa, do yourself a favor and skip the big hotels. I wish there was a way that Yelp would allow me to give half a star, b:c my rating is not a 3star, it's a 3 and a half star review (almost a full 4 but not quite) I wanted to love this place as my husband booked this place as a surprise in celebration of our 15yr wedding anniversary. Staying at a B&B has always been on our list of things to do and my gosh my husband had spent a great deal of time researching many places but something clearly locked him in here. When we arrived, I was impressed..the street is quiet, nice weather to go along with it and the grounds were immaculate. I can feel the history being on property. We were greeted pleasantly at the door.. you can smell the "old" of the property (which wasn't bothersome to me) We were in the Gables Suite, which was really pretty. I wish we had bathrobes for our use, since we had a hot tub in our room. Also, the jets were not working, so it became a "soaking tub". The windows in the room were faux stained glass. Other than that, I loved the space in the Suite. We were not impressed with breakfast in the morning. Wish there were more options. I think a breakfast burrito can be picked up anywhere. However, it was nice to be fed in the morning. **This was advertised as a 3-course meal Wish we had more of a Welcoming upon arrival. My husband wrote some extra notes at the time of booking as to why we were coming. It would have been a pleasant surprise to have a Welcome Note in our room with fresh flowers picked from the garden. We booked a hotel for a birthday weekend. It was husband, wife and toddler. They charged our account. When we got there they refused to accommodate us because of the toddler. They printed off the website and just would not let us stay. They stated they would give us a refund. We left. After reading the reviews we learned that they do not give people refunds. This hotel was the exact pampering I needed. I was in town for an event. I made arrangements with the Inn to checkin ahead of schedule and was on my way. The bed and sheets were soft and comfy. My soaking tub was relaxing. I didn't hear one single noise all night. In the morning, I had pancakes made from scratch with fresh fruit. Kinda wish I could've stayed another night. Starting with the positives... Great location! We walked to Silo's for an amazing concert. My mom also loved the pancake breakfast and talking to the other visitors in the morning. But here's the rest... The room was tiny, spartan sparse with super thin blankets, and up THREE flights of carpeted stairs that my 76 year old mom had a lot of trouble going up and down (pics included). When we asked if there was another room no solution (which is possible if booked) or even apologies for not having specified LOTS OF STAIRS where I made the online booking (hotels.com). Nor did the check in young woman offer any assistance as we struggled holding hands to steady her as I also carried the luggage. When we came back down, we asked for an extra blanket, the young girl quickly responded, "No, what was there is what we provide." I said, "Really? But we're cold." Use the heater... but we still would like two blankets. She said she had to ask the manager...we did get another micro thin blanket before the evening. Also, neither of us are obese but we barely fit in the closet-sized bathroom. We kept hitting our elbows just to get up and down. We didn't even attempt the teensy standup shower. In my opinion, the common areas were more shabby than quaint and the outside was the nicest part. Decided to stay in Napa one more night and was able to get a room here with no notice. This place is a mix of rustic and newer. I think built around 1890. There is time period wooden furniture and built-ins along with newer amenities like a double wide whirlpool bath tub, hair dryer, makeup mirror, fridge. Thinking they didn't have those in 1900. The bed was very comfortable. We stayed in room 1, the Count Bonzi room. There was a separate seating area, fireplace and cool chandeliers. Breakfast is included we had fruit, oats and one of the best breakfast burritos I have had in a long time. With all the creaky floors, period furniture and newer amenities it is very romantic. The price was 107 for a Sunday night. A Friday or Saturday night is low 300's. For that price we will prolly stay elsewhere. Great place for the price on a Sunday. read more

They actually gave us an upgrade and we ended up with a small little apartment - living area, bedroom with king bed, and a gorgeous modern bathroom. Everything was spanking clean, and they were definitely observing COVID precautions. The breakfasts were really delicious. The first day we had a muesli/fruit salad dish and breakfast burritos. I'm torn on this bed and breakfast. The house is beautiful but old. It needs some paint and upkeep but it's overall clean and inviting. My husband and I stayed for 4 nights in the Churchill Room. The room was clean upon check in and the bed was comfortable. Housekeeping was not good. Our bed was made very messily and our coffee bar was never restocked or tidied. We had dirty coffee mugs and utensils the entire week we stayed. Not impressed. I thought breakfast was good but the variety was poor. Unfortunately my husband disliked the breakfast burrito and it was served twice during the 4 days we stayed. Also it seemed that breakfasts were vegetarian to accommodate some other guests that were staying. It would have been nice to have an option for those of us that enjoy some bacon or sausage as protein during breakfast. What is the most disappointing is security. After we checked out I realized that I forgot a very expensive item in the bathroom vanity of our room. I called the Inn (about 5 hours after we checked out) to let them know so I could get my item shipped to me. Unfortunately my item was gone from the room. I was told that no other guests has access to the room since I checked out so someone was dishonest. I know I forgot to pack it and I know exactly where I left it and it was gone. So either the Inn is dishonest, housekeeping is dishonest, or another guest accessed our room as the check out procedure is very insecure. The Inn asks you to just leave your room keys in an unattended bowl on a desk in a common area of the Inn. I had to file a police report and I've not heard back from the Inn so I guess that's that. If I travel to wine country again I would not stay here. I'd rather pay a little more for a nicer place that is more secure. read more

Didn't have a very good stay here at all. Very disappointed that the check in wasn't what we expected. We would hear toilets flushing in the drain in our bathroom. The coffee machine service in our room wasn't working and the container for the sugar and creamer cups were stored in a cheap plastic container you could buy at the Dollar Store. The food selection in the morning was very good either. They used to have a couple of items that you could choose from and the food was great then. There isn't even wine/cheese or crackers in the evening either. We remember when we stayed here years ago that it was a great place to stay. The ambiance of the place was what it used to be. He makes breakfast for you, either a savory crepe or pancakes. There is not much variety to the breakfast but it is quite tasty and he takes care of any dietary restrictions you might have. My husband and I love the Cedar Gables. I believe this is our fifth or sixth visit. This time it was for our 20th wedding anniversary. Judy, the hostess, left flowers and a note in our room.
