You are welcomed with a small bottle of their local wine (Banshee Pinot Noir) and a personal note to kick off your stay. We appreciate the little details that make our stay enjoyable and special. If you score a ground floor room, the bathroom has heated floors. The water pressure, to note, is excellent. We also really enjoy the wood-burning fireplace for the ambiance and for the cold winter nights. A m e n i t i e s: There is a spa, gym, heated pool, restaurant (Layla), EV-charging, etc. Grounds are well kept. You can find a fire pit and water filling stations throughout the property. FYI - for the dog owners, there is no dog relief area on property. We went around the holidays and had a wonderful time with the festive events and activities offered. That is enough for me to want to come back again. With both Marriott Elite and having booked this via Chase travel, we had several benefits including afternoon cocktails ($20 per person), $60 breakfast credit, and $100 hotel credit. Next time I'll be booking two nights so I can get my $250 credit!

They do wine tastings a few afternoons between 430 and 530 but the pours were minuscule. The room itself was spacious (I think we got upgraded since it was midweek). There was an outdoor sitting area including a big bath tub. There's a nice spa on grounds. You can't easily walk to square but they have a free shuttle in a nice VW van. Coming back we waited less than 10 mins. If you're coming to Sonoma, you should defn consider staying here.

Breakfast every morning was so delicious, not a very large menu but everything was well executed with good healthy options and excellent pastries. Special shout out to Susie who was super sweet, provided wonderful service and made sound recommendations for some activities. The charging station at the premise was so convenient for EV and included. Our room was comfortable, bed was firm (good) but quite high, after mentioning to the front desk, footstools were brought over within 10 minutes... Also enjoyed the nice gardens, especially the fragrance from the sweet olive. This is such a nice treat, we shall return.

Unfortunately, this stay was remarkably disappointing. Our room had an enormous carpet stain. Both TVs repeatedly froze on "Accessing" and reset to the Chromecast screen despite staff trying to fix them. Our in-room dining arrived with soggy fries and brown avocado. Restaurant service was consistently slow, including at Santé, where our waiter disappeared and I eventually had to go looking for someone just to get our check. Our six-year-old was excited about the kids' lounge, but the advertised PlayStation was broken. The restroom across the hall had a toilet full of sewage. We also had parking problems twice. We were told self-parking was $29, but the machine tried to charge us $50 the first time and $53 the second. The front desk later told us we should have received a parking QR code at check-in, but no one had given us one. Finally, a $20 DoorDash delivery disappeared after being delivered to the hotel. No one brought it to our room or contacted us, and the hotel could not locate it the following day. Front-desk lines were substantial virtually every time we needed assistance. A manager did waive our resort fee, which we appreciated. But given the sheer number of problems, that didn't feel proportionate to the experience. We actually considered leaving, but this was my wife's 40th birthday weekend and we had planned the trip around staying here, so we tried to make the best of it. Based on our previous Fairmont stays, we expected considerably better.

Everyone was friendly and checked into our needs from the front desk, kitchen, and cleaning staff. Good to hear that they were able to save their property during the fires because of the sprinkler system. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Especially liked the inside shutters on the windows (which all had screens to keep the bugs out). Breakfast was simple but filling and they give you a sweet and savory course. I've read complaints that it wasn't "fancy" enough but felt creative enough for us and everything was perfectly cooked, so no complaints. They also left a birthday card and chocolates for my husband's birthday which was lovely. Three or four different wines are available in the afternoon, through the evening. There is a public "living room" with a fireplace, games, and lots of brochures of the area. We are sensitive about barking dogs but didn't experience any during our stay. We could hear the guests next door through the bathroom wall on occasion but just closed the door and it was fine. This hotel is within walking distance to the town center (although, no sidewalk) and has a fairly large grocery store and cafes/restaurants. Jack London Park is a must see. There is no staff on site after 9 pm (till 7:30 am) but it wasn't a problem for us. They do leave contact info for guests. I don't see this as a place to get rowdy and we experienced guests being respectful and polite. All in all a very pleasant experience to be in nature but with modern amenities.

Just paid another visit to the Olea Hotel for my husband's birthday. Still love this place but it's…read morestarting to lose some of the charm it once had. But first, the good: their accommodations remain fabulous. We stayed in the Upper Poolside Cottage (Room 10) and it's just wonderful. The Comphy sheets are just heaven. Their bath towels are also plush and luxurious. Two thumbs up for in-room linens! Heated floors in the bathroom and 2-sided fireplace provide nice warmth and comfort. Complimentary snacks and fizzy water in the mini fridge are a nice bonus, too. The poolside cottages are the cat's meow, and just a short hop to the pool and hot tub. But there are several things that I noted during our last visit that made me feel like maybe this may have been our last visit to the Olea. First, there was a goodly amount of trash strewn about the property. At the hot tub, there was a wine bottle cap on the bench (I know, wine country, to be expected, right?), but what truly grossed me out was the wad of used athletic wrap right next to the hot tub. Blech! As I grabbed both of these items and took them to the trash (all of five or six steps from where they had been scattered), I noticed even more bits of trash in the corner area near the planters. Like more trash than would be expected by just one party being messy. (Also, the planter area was weedy and just seemed neglected.) I dismissed it as just not getting some needed attention, until I returned to our cottage and noticed several more pieces of trash right by our front door that I had missed earlier. And apparently so did housekeeping and management. Plus broken tree limbs atop the roof of the main building. And a huge rip in one of the pool lounge chair pads. And a very large hole (~3") in a pool towel. Just signs of general neglect and subpar for this place, especially at their price point. Second and perhaps even more disappointing is how much the included breakfast service has changed. It's gone from a 2-course, made-in-house gourmet affair to a continental style DYI breakfast, apparently now even on the weekends. The only thing made to order is the avocado toast (for obvious reasons). For those guests who hadn't enjoyed the previous offerings, perhaps it doesn't seem too bad. Nice spread. But I sorely miss the delectable morning meals and the awesome homemade chai along with the service for breakfast. I'd give this an updated 3.5 stars but will round up to 4 because I still really want to love this place. Also, Star provided friendly and welcoming service at the front desk, which was appreciated.

The chef provides a tasty breakfast each day, with the menu slightly changing. There is coffee, tea, and hot/cool water available all day. It can get a little crowded at breakfast, so if you are in a large group, go either very early or very late. The afternoon happy hour is pretty relaxed with some offerings of cheese, crackers, and wine. Be sure to ask for gluten-free options, as they have them available. They also prepared nice chocolates for my parents (anniversary) and a cookie for my nephew (birthday), which was a lovely touch. The rooms are fine, some are a little darker and/more dated, but that didn't bother us. The one thing that I would've done differently, is to bring an eye mask and ear plugs. Depending on where your room is located, you could be facing the main street. The doors in certain buildings would slam pretty loudly, so if you had neighbors returning late at night, you would definitely hear them. I am a little fussy with beds, and I found the Vitners King (seemed more like a Cali King?) bed to be a little firm and transferred movement easily. We would consider splurging for the updated rooms next time. Bonus that they have cruiser bikes to borrow. It was very nice to go for a quick ride one of the mornings. The location is fantastic, it's within walking distance to downtown. There are so many great restaurants to visit. In addition, wineries and parks are also a close drive away. It's still not cheap, but comparatively such a good value. The property is very pretty, it's lush with trees, plants, and flowers, making it feel like you're in a quiet garden versus a hotel courtyard. Some of the rooms come with chairs outside the doors, but they also have some benches throughout so it's easy for anyone to enjoy the grounds. The rooms are fairly updated. I stayed here 6 years apart and both times they were clean, comfortable, and didn't feel dated. If anything the showers are a little dated, but it adds some character. A breakfast buffet is included, and while it isn't the most robust breakfast, it is extremely appreciated by someone who needs to eat some carbs before or after a day of wine tastings. We were also very pleased to see gluten free muffins for my friend. The hotel is about a mile from the town center, so it is walkable and I've done it, but it's also a quick drive or fairly inexpensive uber away.

Luckily we didn't spend too much time on the property but way too overpriced for what it provides.

I'm going to admit that I've never stayed in "a cottage" and only at a B&B many, many years ago…read more(and I didn't pay). I'm also kind of a City-guy. So, I'm a bit apprehensive when people tell me they won't be there to let me in - that I can just follow the instructions! Yet, it was as easy as they explained. So, thank you Gayle for answering my repetitive questions! We saw a living social getaway and decided to jump on the opportunity. I' glad we did. The cottages themselves were charming, spacious, and clean. They came with a number of games and books. Even though they don't have anyone on site, getting in and out was really easy. The size of the cottages would actually facilitate a family really well. Unfortunately, we couldn't figure out how to work the tv, but weren't there to watch it anyways, so no worries there. The deal came with a bike rental and percentage off on one item in the store. While in theory it's great to bike around Sonoma, I would note that Napa Street is a pretty major thoroughfare into town (one of those that say the speed limit is 25 but everyone drives 40). It might not have been a big deal had the bikes we got been road bikes instead of mountain bikes and were in better shape! I'd also recommend getting some new locks that don't stick and teaching the staff in front to be a little more helpful. Alas, we did take advantage on the first day to bike around town. Definitely a good way to get around, even if getting back is a bit harry! Overall, a good experience. I'd definitely consider it again on our next trip to Sonoma.
