Hash brown
Terence T.

The place was bustling as we came in, seems to be a local favourite and on a nice warm morning the vibes are great to stop for a bite Hash browns were pretty standard, what more do you want from it? My main was the pork belly salad. Unfortunately this is a pretty small dish to be considered with the other breakfast mains, and for its price tag. This would make side salad at best, ingredients wise there are few, the pork belly either was too small to get a good mouth feel or just lacked flavour. Wolfed this down with the hash browns and was still very hungry, I'd recommend another dish

Mexicali Blue Burger

Just outstanding! Came here after hiking with a few folks and we were able to get a nice table on the patio. The service was excellent, everyone was very friendly. I ordered the Mexicali Blue Burger and it was probably one of the best burgers I've eaten. The meat was perfectly cooked, the cheese sauce was just incredible, and even the bread was the right texture. I got a chance to taste the Smash Patty Melt and it was extremely flavorful, great texture as well. Shoreline Coffee Shop is just a sweet spot in a great location with an incredible vibe. I will absolutely be back.

One of the hidden gems in Marin. This is my must stop breakfast stop whenever I'm in the area. The place is no frills; just pure good vibes and amazing food

Alice's special (subbed toast for english muffin) and no frills French toast
Isabel T.

Ordered: Alice's special with scrambled eggs and subbed the toast for an English muffin, and the no frills French toast. Also got a coffee. Highlights: No wait around 11am on Friday. Servers were nice and quick! Food was straight forward and just what we needed after hiking Muir Woods for a bit. Notes: I'd say it is pricier (about $40 for everything) but overall good. I'd come back if I were ever in the area (seems like a classic local spot)!

Had breakfast here during my stay in Mill Valley and loved the old school diner feel. Got quickly seated in a booth, diner coffee was great and had a classic American breakfast with eggs, hash browns, bacon, toast and a pancake. Service was friendly, food came out hot and fast. The bacon here was exceptional. Will definitely return when back in the area. They also have outdoor seating. Seems like it gets really busy during peak hours, we got lucky and arrived just as a table was leaving. No complaints and really enjoyed it!

Kale Salad
Matt J.

The first thing that strikes you walking through the doors is the exceedingly charming retro diner vibe. That aesthetic alone makes a meal here worthwhile. Luckily, the service and food largely lived up to that initial impression. The servers made me feel like a regular on my first visit and I felt right at home amid the old school diner trappings. My kale salad did almost everything well, but 1) I wish they offered a vegetarian protein add-on; 2) I wish the tomatoes were cut more thoughtfully than what you'd find at a cafeteria; 3) the dressing wasn't spicy as advertised on the menu. Despite those nits, I'd wholeheartedly recommend a trip to Shoreline and look forward to returning.

Man, I love this place. It's my go to breakfast place. The breakfast sandwich and breakfast burrito are amazing. But my fave dish is the meatloaf with softly scrambled eggs plus the jalapeno hash browns. Plus the lattes here are top notch, and the friendliest staff you can imagine.

Sitting outside was nice there was good weather the food came out quickly. I really enjoyed the brioche bread they used for the hamburger and it made a big difference.

Been here a couple times before a hike in the Muir Woods and it's always great. The he made hot table sauce is awesome.

The to go cup we were to be charged for after spending $50 on breakfast

What I received was just meat and cheese, no onions, no cilantro, nothing else. Mistakes happen, so I walked back up to the counter to point it out. Instead of a quick fix, the situation turned into an argument between the front staff and the kitchen about whether the taco had been made correctly. I stepped in to clarify and explained that I had literally just shown the taco to the cashier. At that point, I was essentially told they couldn't verify it because I hadn't physically handed it back to them, while the kitchen insisted it had been made with onions and cilantro. It got awkward fast. Rather than simply remaking the taco, the whole exchange felt like I was being accused of making it up over a $9 order. At that point, I decided to leave. It's not about the taco, it's about how the situation was handled. If there's an issue, just fix it and move on. Turning it into a debate with the customer is not the move. They really need to do better on basic customer service.

Because of that, my experience may be influenced by expecting a bit higher quality, especially given the other food options in the area The Cantina in Mill Valley is a pretty standard Mexican spot with a Tex-Mex lean. I usually enjoy this style of food; I was a big fan of places like El Torito in SoCal, but this one didn't quite land for me. We ordered two burritos. The portions were generous, but the flavors were very mild. I love bold, spicy food, and these were lacking seasoning in my opinion. I ended up taking half home and adding avocado, lemon, and salsa from my own kitchen to give it the punch it was missing. We also tried the queso fundido, which was interesting. I hadn't had it prepared quite like that before, and it definitely leaned more Tex-Mex. It wasn't bad, just different from what I expected. Unfortunately, the service was a letdown as well. I had to find menus myself, and the only ones available at the bar were happy hour menus. Later, the server told us that happy hour isn't honored on holidays, which was disappointing. If that's the case, those menus shouldn't be out at all--it sets expectations that weren't met. Overall, if you're looking for a basic Tex-Mex spot and aren't big on spice, this might work for you. For me, between the bland food and the service issues, it's not a place I'd rush back to.

After a long hike in Mt. Tam, we stopped by the popular Sol Food in Mill Valley for the first time!…read moreAnd I don't know if it was because of the 8-mile hike I just finished or what, but the food absolutely hit the spot! First of all, we came during an off-hour, around 3:30pm, and there was still a line to order at the counter. They provided complementary ice water from a dispenser outside with cups, which was really nice. Once we placed our orders, we stood outside with everyone else as the indoor area is pretty small with only limited counter seating at the window. We waited about 5 minutes to order and another 10-15 for our food. Most people set up camp on the tailgates of their cars in the parking lot, so we did the same. Pro tip: some people brought camping chairs and coolers to make it into a real tailgate, which I thought was really cool. - Pollo al horno: ordered the Large plate which came with generous portion of chicken, white rice, choice of fried garlic plantain or sweet plantain (or one of each), side of beans (choice of black or pink), and a side salad. Chicken was marinated very nicely and wasn't too dry. - Bistec encebollado: ordered the Large plate also which came with the same as above. Steak was cooked well and surprisingly tender enough to cut easily. Both plantains were good but I really liked the garlic one because it was different than the sweet plantains I'm used to. The Large plate portion sizes were huge! Although the price did reflect this, I think it was still worth for the amount of food given.

I came around 4:30pm, and the restaurant was empty, so we were seated immediately. Service was quick and efficient. I did hear a lot of the loud conversation between the two girls at the register about Instagram and TikTok.... I ordered the super burrito, which was nicely toasted, but overall it was just okay. It wasn't bad, but it didn't stand out either. There was no real spice or bold flavor, and I couldn't quite figure out what it was missing. The horchata was pretty basic. It tasted more like plain milk with cinnamon sprinkled on top rather than the richer, more flavorful horchata you'd expect. I also tried the Baja fish tacos, which were disappointing. The fish wasn't crispy enough and lacked flavor. The tortilla was easily breaking apart. It's like they took the tortilla straight out of the bag because it was cold and didn't look cooked. It came with tortilla chips that were over-fried and borderline burnt, though I wasn't sure if that was intentional. Another reason this ended up being a lower rating for me is the owner's response to feedback. As you can see in other reviews, Tommy tends to get very defensive when customers leave criticism, which I found pretty unprofessional. After I posted my review, he actually messaged me directly (see screenshot), which was honestly off-putting. Yelp is meant to be a space for customers to share their honest experiences, whether positive or negative, and responding in that way doesn't reflect well on the business. I also live in San Francisco, where there's no shortage of authentic and high-quality Mexican food, so I stand by my opinion. Being told my palate isn't "on point" felt dismissive rather than constructive. If anything, I'd just caution others that if you leave feedback here, be prepared for a defensive response from ownership, which may impact your overall experience beyond just the food. Overall, I was surprised given the strong reviews. The meal felt pretty bland across the board, and unfortunately it didn't live up to the hype. Also the owner's attitude doesn't deserve any business. After the owners negative and defensive responses, I know I won't come back.
