The flavor of the food was good however it was very hard to eat. I got the half chicken gyro and a side of soup. The gyro was very awkward and hard to form into a wrap. I would like to come back to try something else. As of right now this was just okay for me.

Garcia Sandwich 5. Jerry Garcia Sandwich 5 My new favorite!

I had the jerry Garcia sandwich with chicken, bacon, avocado and onion. The bread fresh and crunchy, full of fresh ingredients and very filling. Definitely my new favorite sandwich of Fairfax! Service very nice and fast, ambiance beautiful and fresh. Definitely coming more often!

After tackling a fairly ambitious hike (at least for me) at Tomales Point (22,000+ FitBit steps...impressive no?), I was driving back on Sir Francis Drake Blvd feeling quite famished. I really had no destination in mind, but I noticed Fairfax had a lot of options in one concentrated area. Besides, there was a convenient parking lot which I could enter and exit quite easily. It didn't take me long to decide on this casual Mediterranean cafe. As I look at their website now, it appears they've done some renovation work, expanded their menu, and changed their name to Lord Fairfix Cafe & Tap. I noticed they still offered what I had, the $17.95 Mediterranean Plate though mine was two dollars cheaper. It was a mighty full plate with all the standard components - falafel balls, hummus, tabouli, dolmas, feta cheese, tzatziki, toasted pita wedges as well as a small salad of romaine, tomato slices, peperoncini and red onions. I had no complaints about the quantity, and I found it pretty fresh (photo: https://bit.ly/3D6V6d2). I just thought the service was pretty curt and selective. The owner appeared to favor regulars, but the speaking for the rest of us, I felt like I was in a chow line at state prison. Not that I know that feeling firsthand. Maybe I smelled of tule elk poo from the hike. Oh well, maybe I'll try Lord Fairfix if I pass by town again. Hopefully I'll feel more welcome then. FOOD - 4 stars...pretty full plate of expected delectables AMBIANCE - 3 stars...pretty bare bones when I was there SERVICE - 2.5 stars...not feeling the love TOTAL - 3 stars...a middling experience even though the food was good enough RELATED - Exploring north of San Francisco? My friend and I wanted to go out for breakfast somewhere with a nice indoor-outdoor setup. We settled on the beautiful and very dry back patio of Fairfix! What a lovely spot. The falafel wrap was loaded and very tasty. My cappuccino was high quality. There are so many items on this menu which look incredible! Will definitely come back to use the wifi and eat soon. The staff was great! Really friendly and welcoming.

Love. One of the best cafes in Marin. My favorite is the grilled chicken sandwich on focaccia bread. Also love the avocado salad.

Everything feels authentic and made with care. But what really sets this place apart is the people. The team is warm, welcoming, and genuinely makes you feel at home every time. Whatever we lacked in Korean or Ethiopian fare we made up for with an abundance of restaurants specializing in food from France and Italy. Amelie Cafe and Wine Bar continues the tradition and I'm not mad about it. With outposts in both San Francisco and New York City, Amelie sports a nice pedigree. The Fairfax location is dialed down a bit - perfect for the neighborhood it serves - and makes for a comfortable place to enjoy any meal however you might happen to appear that day. It's a simple cafe and, though not inexpensive, certainly less so than a trip to Paris. Two of us recently dined here, late afternoon on a weekend, sharing a burger ($23; comes with fries and a salad), a lager ($8; they have no IPA), and boquerones, the latter of which I fully regretted having to share. Whenever I see boquerones ($12) on a menu I cannot look away and in Marin, finding such an offering is a unicorn. Delicious; I might sneak back over solo just to enjoy them again. The burger and fries were also good, with a profile a bit different than what one would get at a non-French-centric spot. Amelie is a good place to drop in before or after a movie or a show in Fairfax and equally wonderful to pop into for a morning coffee drink or an afternoon glass of wine. It's a casual and a perfect fit for Fairfax.
