This place has a very geometrical structure which really adds to the flow of their delicious tea. My husband and I went here for breakfast. He ordered a croissant breakfast sandwich. I ordered waffles. The egg in the croissant sandwich had grey areas and was rubbery. The sausage was not very good, the actual croissant was decent. Over all, not the best sandwich as they cook the eggs in the microwave. My waffles we dark brown and crispy. Not quite burnt, but definitely overcooked. The fruit you could tell was old as the strawberries were soggy, off color and breaking down. I had ordered bacon, but they forgot them. Even the fresh ashtray right below my nose, getting stronger with every waft of wind, can't destroy my on point chicken sandwich high. Fair Fix is adorable. Open till 11:00 and serving up a pretty standard, but at the same time, high quality food in a warm, cozy, well lit cafe. The woman helping me behind the counter was friendly and patient, despite the kitchen closing up. They seem to have revised some policies, where formerly free wifi is now at cost, and there is a persistent grime around the place, which may be from the food being cooked. We visited Fairfix Cafe on a holiday recently and enjoyed the outdoor seating which apparently was created due to the Covid restrictions on indoor dining. Very quaint and cute cafe. We shared their Mediterranean Platter, it was utterly delicious, and each had a bowl of soup, my wife their vegan green split pea, and myself, a wholly satisfying bowl of chicken soup that was served with bread and at my request, extra virgin olive oil for dipping. We have found a very reasonably priced go to restaurant that will bring us back to Fairfix again in the near future. I am dreaming of that delicious bowl of chicken soup as I write this review. FairFix Cafe has a primo location and the potential to be a great casual spot. Unfortunately, it's pretty sub-par. My husband and I stopped in for a quick salad, because Mas Masa was closed. The tables outside weren't bussed, (after waiting a few minutes, I bussed one myself) the employees inside seemed harried and put-out. The salads were mediocre. And they were out of knives? When I asked around, I heard the owner is never there. This is too bad. There is just too much foot traffic in Fairfax for an uninspired uninterested owner. Check out Creekside in San Anselmo. I think this place is really really great! I've been coming for years and it never disappoints! I love the grilled chicken sandwich and the avocado salad. They have a delicious chai frappe, way better than the coffee roasters down the street. They have a quaint outside patio and the food is served with a side of greens with peperancinis. The only thing is that the food is never really consistent.. The grilled chicken sandwich is my favorite! But I have gotten it many times and it's always different. Last time there was only one small tomato and one piece of lettuce on a half of the sandwich!! (See photo). Please add more to the sandwich if you charge about $9.00 for it. So, there's no way I'd let all these folks not honor my favorite place to eat - HANDS DOWN! First of all, Fair Fix cafe is a slammin' coffee cafe/eatery. Yes, it's a small time business run establishment, which means that they might put heart and time into your food, which means you'll have to wait a little bit longer. And, it's not a place that caters to the "I have money so I expect to be served" place. You order at the counter, you sit, they let you know when your order is ready and you take your food, silverware and all to the table of your choice. If you feel like a full service dining experience, this is not the place. And, yes, if you want something a little extra (like the extra tomatoes on my salad I always ask for) you have to ask nicely. Whether or not you pay for the extra tomatoes has more to do with whether or not you've befriended the wonderful people behind the counters. I must admit, I'm biased, yes. I grew up in Fairfax and Fair Fix cafe was the place where we'd go sit and chill after we were already baked. It's where we used to go and play backgammon and talk all night. In a place like Fairfax, it's one of the only places where teens can hang out safely without their parents and not get into too much trouble. And, it's the place I still go to today for the best home made soups (my favorite is corn cilantro and chunky vegetable) and excellent salads. Very vegetarian and vegan friendly. I also really like the grilled chicken sandwich with sweet chili sauce on Bordenave's french bread. Admittedly, the staff gets the orders wrong every once in a while but, I've bene going there for over 10 years and it's only happened a handful of times, and it's usually just them forgetting to put the cheese on the sandwich like my boyfriend asked for. Nothing major and they always fix it. As for having "character", Fair Fix cafe has plenty of character. The people of Fairfax are what gives Fair Fix cafe its character. Yes, there've been new businesses that have popped up, but, Fairfax has still retained it's small-town charm, which I might add, cares nothing for catering to the mere passerbys. Fair Fix reflects the people of Fairfax, who as a population are probably more likely than other people to give you their last dollar if you were broke and stranded on the side of the road. They would probably give you a ride to the nearest gas station, or maybe even invite you into their home instead of just lending you their cell phone to call the local tow company. So what if you can't find a newspaper that isn't all neatly folded into squares and rectagles? If you haven't noticed, Fair Fix is one of those places where tree huggers, and hippis and bare feet (take that you germaphobes!) can still be welcome without judgment. This place is terrible. The woman behind the counter is unbelievable. I ordered a Thai salad and a large bowl of soup ($5.50) and neglected to look inside the bag when I paid for it. When I got to my car, I glanced down and assumed they must have given me a small container of soup. I walked back in with it and the woman's attitude pretty much sucked. Safe to say, customer service is not her niche: Me: "I think you gave me a small container instead of the large." Woman: "Nope, that's our large. (blank stare) What do you want me to do about it?" Me: "I'm feeling a little ripped off with this tiny size and the price I paid for it." Woman: "Look, I just sell stuff here. The owner sets the prices, and if you want to complain, you'll need to call him directly." She tries to hand me the phone so that I can call in the middle of his restaurant and complain in front of the other customers (brilliant). Me: "No. I'll call him from home, give me his name and number." This is the unbelievable part....SHE DID! I walked out with his name and cell number. When I got home, I measured out the soup and it was exactly 1 ¼ cup of soup. She told me it was so expensive due to the amount of chicken in it. Nope...not enough chicken to justify this - tons of rice, celery and carrots though. I will never go back to this place due to the lack of customer service. Simply adding a small container of soup would have at least made me feel better and I would have left happy instead of ticked off (or ripped off). Relaxed "off campus college" feel with full bulletin board of local biz cards, good coffee and teas, healthy sandwiches and salads (good falafels!), sweets too lol! I found it looking for a place to catch a cup of coffee and check emails in the morning between appointments, and now it's kind of a regular spot to meet friends around a hike or bike ride too. Fairfix café is one of those spots you just want to come back to again and again. There are multiple coffee shops in the half block radius, however, I seem drawn to this place instead. Dude!!! It's called a "vent fan" it's for venting the constant smell of onions and burnt toast that fills this place! Please get one! Also, while you're at it, put some acoustical tiles in there. When the place is crowded it is SO noisy. These are the places that make me so appreciative of Yelp. I brought my (huge) family here as we were passing through, and they all wanted to know how I found it. There was something on the menu for everyone. We all sampled everyone's orders and there wasn't a single thing (out of ten different plates) that wasn't completely amazing. My Mediterranean Plate was better than Mediterranean Plates I have had IN the Mediterranean. Other favorites from our group were the Goat Cheese (seriously, I could eat it with a spoon) and a Caprese Sandwich. I wish I lived here so I could eat here every other day. So maybe the service isn't amazing, but... the food is so worth it, who cares?! If you've been to the Mediterranean... that's kind of standard anyway. Great food, straight-to-the-point service.
