First it feels cozy and elegant at the same time. The kitchen is visible from the dining room. Chef Duilio is masterful at creating delicious dishes. I have gone three times recently and every time there is what feels like a special occasion to try an amazing special or dessert. Do not skip dessert. These are worth it in every way. Our servers were both excellent and attentive in the right way. My favorite dish is the pappardelle. I had the sea bass the last time which is my favorite dish. This is a great place- wonderful atmosphere and delicious pasta. The potato and spinach gnocchi was rich and fluffy and Cavatelli di ricotta was one of the best dishes I have had in recent memory. I would come back just for the cavatelli alone but the rest of the menu that appears to update seasonally looks like it would be great to try. read more

I almost always have a five star experience at Valenti & Co. Duilio is the chef/owner and in the last couple of years he's been expanding his garden to generate fruits and vegetables to add to the menu. Cristiano runs the front of the house, and for the last few years has been the sommelier and wine buyer. Tonight's meal was really special. As usual, I start with a glass of white wine, Arneis. My starter was Butternut Squash VVelouté Soup this time with amaretto crumbs and parmigiano. Ymmmmmmm The main was Egg Fettuccine with butter, parmigiano and shaved fresh white truffles from Alba. It knocked my socks off. My only problem was that I should have asked for a double order. I paired it with a glass of Barbaresco. The dessert was Duillio's new (to me) addition of homemade gelato. This time it was a pumpkin gelato served in an edible bowl that I have to describe has an upscale cone, but a bowl that was thin, crisp and tasty and held the gelato, some whipped cream and what seemed like house made thin slivers of dark chocolate. I am not a usual Saturday customer. The ambience was a good energy, a low to medium level of sound, and a "we didn't come here to be in a hurry" atmosphere. A wonderful experience. If it wasn't the best meal I ever had here, it was darn close. Maybe Cristiano's new glasses created an extra level of class, or maybe it was just that he started to recognize me! read more

Valenti is a perfect neighborhood restaurant. The food is always top notch. Tonight I had the trout and wild shrimp and my wife had the risotto with chanterelles. Both were amazing. We shared a nice goat cheese salad to start and finished with a panna cotta and a semifreddo. The wait staff is uniformly gracious and knowledgeable. The dining room is comfortable and lively. We went last night, and as usual we appreciated the atmosphere and the professional service. It was quite crowded, and a bit noisy for us. I felt that the tables were too close to each other and we could hear our neighbors conversations. I am always looking forward to go to Valenti because the food is good. Last night however the thin spaghetti with clams was not a good dish. The clams were fresh and tasty, but the spaghetti were WAY too salty. I understand that a seafood dish may be slaty, but this was too much and I could not finish my dish. One of us also had the same dish and felt the same way. Outside of that, The parpadelle with Rabbit is always a winner, and the hazelnut semifreddo was the best I 've had. read more

We popped into o this restaurant after spending the day in Point Reyes. We were DEFINITELY casual, pushing too causal, but from the moment we walked in, everyone was so friendly, and nobody seemed to be judgjng. It was about 7:30 when we arrived, and it was definitely busy. Our waiter Christiano, immediately greeted us and let us know he could get us a table in about five minutes and invited us to have some wine at the bar. We shared the Heirloom Tomato Salad with tomatoes from the owner's garden as well as Rabbit Pappardelle and baked black cod with olive crust, sautéed spinach with salt cured capers, and lemon emulsion. It was all delicious, but the cod was AMAZING!!!!!! The service was also great. Cristiano was friendly and knowledgeable, and there were several other people taking care of us as well. It wasn't quick service, so I would let them know if you're in a hurry, but if you have time to just kick back and enjoy your company and meal, it's definitely nice to not be rushed through. When I say it wasn't "quick service," I don't mean it was too slow. It was just relaxed but attentive. I loved this place and highly recommend. Amazing Italian food, good wine selection, and outstanding service. The caprese salad made with heirloom tomatoes and other vegetables from the owner/chef's garden and the white anchovy and arugula salad exceeded our expectations. The home-made pastas were heavenly. The pappardelle with pulled braised rabbit, the Garganelli with seafood bolognese, and the NZ sea bream with lemon emulsion were some of the best food we have had in Marin for the past 20 years. Franco our server was gracious, attentive, and helpful. The rose Prosecco and organic Italian Pinot Noir were also very nice. We will be definitely returning to try the other entrees. Tried to go to Fradelizio's in Fairfax, Debra 's & my go to Italian joint CLOSED on Tues-Wed...boo hoo...so we rolled into San Anselmo, tried here & split all our orders....Inside of the hotel...sat in the backyard area..nearly empty & a long way from the main dining room..heaters there but not needed..Waitguy (a bit stiff) brought us some foccacia with a tiny crock of olive oil & balsamic & warned us the salad we ordered was tiny but we said ok (he was right)..ordered the meatballs...3 of them ( more like tiny sliders than balls) of beef belly & mortadella with stewed beans in a tasty tomato based sauce yummy 8 of 10..then came the tiny salad of greens with truffle salt potato chips & great gorgonzola cheese! ..the chips were crispy but the promise of truffles flavor... hmmmm? minimal...a 6?....then the entrees arrived.. spaghetti with 3 large prawns in a very lite tomato broth..I had thought it would come with a variety of seafood but I was mistaken... that was from another nights offering... too bad, it could of used more sea protein & more flavor it was pretty boring and skimpy given the $32 buck tariff... it was the weakest link in our meal 5...the star was the osso buco with risotto...the veal so tender a tasty & the saffron rice lovely.. a 9..my glass of rosato a nice pour, satisfying..tiramisu quite fine although Deb (who's schooled on this) had had better..a 7.... my espresso (WHAT?) was served in a mug!? that was a first! not hot either & it could have been great had it been served properly 5 ....the osso buco really wowed us (I ate all her veal fat lucky me!)... that maybe made the rating a 3+ or 4- of 5 ...would return ...know though that portions tend to be petite..forgot to take pics... should have.. to show the sizes PS I also forgot to wear shoes got distracted by fire trucks in front of my house & drove off wearing my slippers...that was a 1st too! I have eaten here several times and I have never been disappointed. We found ourselves in San Anselmo on a Saturday evening in August. We followed the music and ran into some friends and hung out a bit before calling Valenti & Co to see if they could accommodate two for dinner. They said yes and we high footed it over there. We ordered the mixta salad $15, wait until you see the picture, the parpadelle, the sea bass, a bottle of white Italian wine and a chocolate tower. All lovely and worth the $. read more

I went here based on a friends recommendation. This is good American Italian. I just don't know why cooks here can't reproduce authentic Italian food. If you've never been to Italy, this is good Italian food. If you've been, a fair attempt but found lacking. In Italy, Pasta is light and not filling; here heavy and not as fresh ingredients. Very good service though. I will probably go back with tempered expectations. Oh well, need to go back to Italy where everything is bonissimo. read more

Yesterday night I came for dinner with a friend of mine. I had high expectations about this restaurant because of the good reviews, but I think the value of this place is less for many reasons. First, they knew I was Italian and no one shown up to to say Hi. The waiter said the chef is Italian, but he didn't came even though I told to the waiter that my Pizzoccheri were salty. Second, the amount of food was very little compared to the prices. We ordered the carpaccio first to share and then pizzoccheri e garganelli. Carpaccio was good, but the slices were just five (at least they brought the focaccia as complimentary). Then the Pizzoccheri...I know here you can't have bitto e casera, but at least mantain the same shape of the pasta (and also there were salty). I think garganelli we're better, but I wasn't very satisfied about the food. The wine was good though (for sure it was an Amarone). read more

While visiting this city, we ate here with friends who recommended it. I enjoyed my glass of wine very much. But the Costoletta Milanese was definitely not worth the price and the Veal Osso Buco was uninspiring. I'm wishing now I had ordered the duck to see what it was like, and I know my husband wishes he had ordered a different entree. I moved to San Anselmo almost a year ago. After the moving truck left I wanted to have some wine, I had a bottle but no cork screw. I walked down the street a few blocks and came across the Valenti Restaurant. It was June 2024 and someone was out setting up tables. I asked if they knew where I could buy a cork screw. They took me inside the restaurant and gave me one and said, welcome to the neighborhood. For months know I keep walking by and thinking, I really want to go eat here. Tonight, April 2025 I was walking around town with some friends and they said lets find a place to eat. We went in and luckily they had a table. Finally!!!! I made it inside. First of all the waiter, Franco, was so welcoming and friendly we immediately felt at home. We ordered many items, from appetizers, main, wine and desert and everything was so delicious we almost licked the plates....we actually did on the dessert. We chose Valenti for our anniversary dinner, having passed by many times. It was a cold rainy night so the Osso Bucco was our main. We added a pear and radicchio salad and a mushroom risotto. Both sides paired well with the shank. Valenti has a great wine list and we selected a 1/2 bottle of Brunello. Desert was a home-made coffee chocolate chip gelato. We really like the quiet intimate dining room which is in the lower floor of a country inn. Our waiter was very attentive and on top of things. We will be back! read more

Given there are well-known stores such as "Tiffany & Co.", you'd think Valenti & Co. would be held with very high regard and standards as well. I must say they did not disappoint. I simply adored virtually all of the dishes we had the opportunity to try. I also loved the romantic and elegant ambience the restaurant presents. We started off with the anchovies, mussels, and cauliflower soup. Next, we sampled the risotto, garganelli, and Liberty duck breast. Finally, we finished off the night with tiramisu, vanilla bean panna cotta, and pear tartelette. I am looking forward to my second visit (this was our first time here!!) I think the only not as good thing to mention is the risotto...I think it's just our palates but we felt it was too salty for us to truly appreciate the risotto. read more

Happy Fathers Day and what a treat to spend it here. San anselmo recently closed down the downtown area post- covid(ish) so people can drink out and about and eat in the streets. My friend and I gladly ended up here. Sadly for everybody who is on the other side of the block and this restaurant it was more on the empty side clearly due to the location. I knew better knowing an old Italian friend of mine would occasionally eat here and I trust her. So the service amazing, nice outdoor seating but I could care less about that even though it definitely only added to the experience. The food! We order polenta fries which I loved and carpaccio appetizer with arugula and freshly grated cheese that I tried and my friend loved. The pastas all homemade, he got gnocchi which were perfectly smooth in your mouth without most that usually have a rubber chewy bite. These practically melted. My dish! Uhhhh it had fresh rabbit with mushrooms and rosemary. I was scared for my dish to end, terrified with every bite it would be the last. I recommend fully. read more

This has got to be possibly the worst experience ever. I got there and I had ordered the Salmon last week, and it was the absolute worst. It smelled absolutely horrible and was undercooked to boot. I have no idea why the chef undercooked the fish but essentially, the baked salmon came back VERY raw and cru in the middle. Furthermore, the dry white wine I ordered (A Pino) was actually very sweet. It turns out they brought a Reisling instead. OK so I got raw fish, under cooked, and a dessert wine. Honestly at that point I almost decided to walk out but just barely got through it. I don't understand why people would put their hard earned money here when the fish is raw, wine incorrect and service almost intolerable. Not going again. Next time if I want sushi, I'll go to a Japanese restaurant. read more

We ordered two of the most difficult dishes to make well: gnocchi and risotto. And we finished it off with one of the most difficult deserts to make well: panna cotta. The gnocchi were pillow soft. The softest most satisfying gnocchi I have had in an Italian restaurant in the United States. The creamy goat cheese sauce was delicious and not overly gamey as goat can sometimes be. The risotto was perfectly made with each grain of rice separated and al dente as it should be and so rarely is. The flavors were delicious, with pecorino Romano coating every grain and yet not seeming too sharp or excessive. Pana cotta had the melt in your mouth quality that is always desired and rarely delivered. There was no trace of stiffness or excessive gelatin, and the vanilla flavor was excellent. I can't really describe how impressed I am with this restaurant, especially having started with low expectations on a weekend trip from San Francisco. I have no idea what they are doing in San Anselmo but if you happen to be here for dinner, really, don't miss it. read more

For a lifetime now I've seemingly been immune to the allure of a quiet upscale restaurant in the suburbs. Simply put, I prefer the buzz that accompanies a busy, happening spot in the City. So it was with a bit of reticence that I made weeknight dinner reservations for 3 at Valenti & Co., a place well reviewed on yelp but about which I'd otherwise heard not a peep. You can chalk it up to getting older, slowing down, being too tired to drive into SF mid-week but here's what I'm chalking it up to: In the calm, quiet of the Ross Valley, Valenti & Co. is serving up some fabulous food that might cause anyone to toss aside their biases. In a quiet, mildly upscale place with a slightly casual look and feel Valenti first wowed me with their starters, almost all priced at $12 or under. These are City starters served up at non-City prices. From the Shaved Artichoke Salad to the Zucchini alla Parmigiana to the Mondeghili Milanese Meat Balls (made with slow braised grass-fed beef belly) each starter was better than the one which preceded it until I found one which I don't think can be topped. The Marinated "White" Anchovies with Arugula, Blood Orange, and Spring Onion was a site to behold; a stunning presentation which delivered equally in flavor. The "Pasta Fatta in Casa" portion of the menu (average price $18-$21; small plates available for less) delivered equal rewards. Potato Gnocchi with Veal Ragu and Herbs and Garganelli Seafood "Bolognese" were winning but my personal choice and favorite was the Pappardelle de Duilio al Coniglio with braised rabbit sauce & rosemary. Between the starters and the pasta I never even made it to the "Secondi" portion of the menu. A bottle of Barolo, brought from the home wine cellar was uncorked at a cost of $20 (corkage on bottle #2 runs $30). A delicious side of Cauliflower with Pancetta ($7) was perfection. As if the food and service hadn't already won us over, Valenti & Co. took an extra step to ensure satisfaction. After we kindly declined to order dessert despite celebrating a birthday at our table, the waiter came out bearing an artful, candle-lit dessert for the three of us to share. Like everything else that arrived at our table, it was stellar. The allure of excellent food in a quiet suburban environment might still mostly escape me but the offerings at Valenti & Co. do not. I'd gladly skip the drive to San Francisco for another meal here. read more
