A really cool shop. I ventured in here to visit a friend who was studying. I immediately spotted black bottom cupcakes ... my favorite! I first tried black bottom cupcakes in DC and have never encountered them again except in my kitchen ... where the batch was a total failure. A black bottom cupcake is a chocolate cupcake with some delicious cream cheese concoction that is spooned onto the cupcake and baked in so it seeps to the middle. It is difficult to get the correct proportion of cupcake and cream cheese. I was totally stoked and impressed that Fair Fix had them so I immediately bought one ($2) and ate it. The chocolate cake part was very moist and rich without being cloyingly sweet and the cream cheese part was pretty good. The proportion was very good but the cream cheese wasn't browned enough and hadn't seeped to the middle very well. A couple days later, my friends ordered a Mediterranean salad and an avocado cheese sandwich. The salad was huge and came with delicious kalamata olives. The only downside was that it came with blue cheese. Nevertheless, it was still highly delectable. Fair Fix offers reasonably priced and yummy coffee, bagels, sandwiches, soups, salads and a wide assortment of delicious looking pastries and baked goods. High quality! read more

I get into the movie theater and and they don't sell coffee! Luckily, a block or so away I found fair fix. The cafe mocha was really, really good. I got a turkish coffee for myself. It had a bit more cardamom than I'm used to, but I rather liked it. Also, I rarely find places that serve turkish coffee. Huge plus. read more

Wow! Can't believe this is my first review. I've been coming here pretty steady for a few weeks and it's always good. Service - The guys behind the counter are fast and friendly! Atmosphere - Always clean, good art on the walls and fun music on the radio - never too loud I've had sandwiches, salads and the mezz plate a few years back when I first visited - All yummy and generous. Free wireless - Yes!! #Single-stall restroom - Yes!! read more

My friend and I stopped in here for lunch en route to a meditation retreat at Spirit Rock. We'd just flown in from Seattle and I had tracked down lunch possibilities via Yelp the night before. As we approached Fairfax, we were delighted to encounter an old skool hippie kind of town -- not the Marin either of us had expected. Our delight grew larger when we walked into the Fair Fix and felt a 70's groovy cafe vibe, complete with photos of Buddhist monks on the walls -- perfect for getting in the "meditation retreat" mood . The menu board was resplendent with delicious and healthy vegetarian options. (Can't remember if there was anything with meat.) Lots of sandwiches, soup and Greek fare. We each went Greek, she ordering a massive avocado salad with hummus, and I ordering a hummus plate with falafal. Both were fresh and tasty. I finished off my lunch with a piece of bak lava. Yum! I wish we had stopped here on the flip side for breakfast...the choices looked equally good. Ah well. Next time. read more

I'm torn! I've come here to do some work before and was very please with the accessibility of outlets to plug my laptop into and the limitless wi-fi. I've spoken to one employee who came across as a really cool guy and I like that they offer a very yummy turkish coffee. However, some of the staff is rude. 2 examples: I'm on vacation and while leaving Fair Fix Cafe one evening had my wallet fall out of my purse. The next morning, I was frantically searching for it when a staffer at the place I was staying offered to help me out by calling Fair Fix while I turned my car inside out for the 3rd time. When I came back in, the nice girl who made the call said that unfortunately, the folks at Fair Fix didnt see a wallet. On the abnormally long drive from point reyes to Fairfax with the intention of scowering the streets for my wallet, I got antsy and decided to call Fair Fix myself just in case the wallet had somehow magically appeared since the one and ONLY phone call an hour earlier. The fair fix employee on the other end was rude. When I asked if anyone had seen a wallet he responded with something along the lines of, "you called before and I already told you theres no wallet". I explained that it was someone else that had called and that I thought I would just call again because I didnt know what else to do (really because I was 400 miles from home, it was sunday and I couldnt even fill up my gas tank). Needless to say, he was just a meany! (As a side note, a wonderful guy who worked at the Lotus Cafe found my wallet in the street and returned it to me!!!) Second weird experience: My friend ordered a latte. Employeee: how many shots? Friend: (shrug) however you usually make it. Employee: different people want it done differently. Friend: Just whatever is standard. Employee: how many shots? After a while she just gave up and ordered a coffee. We set up our computers and went to work. After about an hour of work and coffee sipping, we both noticed our eyes felt like someone had just started chopping onions. We've been going to Coffee Roasters since. read more

I've been dining here ever since it first opened and whenever I'm visiting home I try to swing by at least once for a bite to eat! this place has a lot of charm and is very cozy, and best of all you see all sorts of characters (some of which make me think "this is definitely Fairfax") wandering in at all hours with the same mission in mind - to get some good grub. one thing that's great about the place is that to me, the quality of the food has been consistant every time. I do wish the staff would move the bins to buss plates and silverware since the area gets crowded when there are too many people. also it would be awesome if they took card because I think the atm has a pretty high usage fee. the carrot cake and black bottomless cupcakes they sell are absolutely delicious! read more

There has only be 39 reviews?? this place has been around for ages, and a hot spot for years. Never ever empty. This is the perfect cafe. They have a number of great sandwiches, salads and other Mediterranean dishes like couscous platter and falaffels. They make great drinks as well. FAVORITE DISHES: Caprise Sandwich (no where has made a better one). Fairfax Melt (the local high school made a documentary on this sandwich it is so good). Couscous plate. Felafel Plate. Bagel with lox, tomato, onion and avo. ATMOSPHERE: Laid back. Comfortable. Bright and airy. nice art on the walls. Wood floors. Not cramped. Dont come expecting some high class fancy place though, we are not in Sausalito. This is fairfax, hip little laid back fairfax. You come for the food. SERVICE: Quick. Nice staff. PRICE: very good prices. Go for lunch under $10. read more

Best café in Fairfax. If I want to run into a friend, Fairfix is the place to go. Good coffee drinks, great chai, nice food. Best already-made quiche. Most of the staff is awesome -- minus one frustrating person, but maybe they were just having a bad day -- and it's wonderful that they stay open late. I only wish they took debit cards. read more

I've been going to the Fairfix Cafe since it opened maybe 25 years ago. I'm aware of the recent new ownership and changes there and I'm sorry to say they seem pretentious and overpriced. In addition, I've heard that the new owner is disrespectful to the employees, some of whom are Latino. This makes me sad and I won't be going there again. It's a loss. read more

Nothing like a hot Fairfix melt and a spicy chai when it's raining like bloody hell outside. The Fairfix cafe is where we go when we have to get some work done but just can't stay home for another minute. There is a decent Wifi connection and you can usually snag a table next to a wall outlet. The constant flow of folks in and out of the place makes for good people watching, but it may get a little chilly if you're by the door. Their Mediterranean plate is really good, but as another Yelper mentioned, when the staff starts in chopping those onions, it will drive you to tears if you are sensitive to such things. read more

I love this place! I am a digital marketer so I work from cafes a lot. I have to say I am a little picky when it comes to cafes and coffee shops I choose to frequent, and I am not quick to write a 5 star review unless the place deserves it. The coffee here is great and strong, exactly what I look for. There is also a good food selection of salads, soups and sandwiches. I like to eat a healthy balanced diet and the food here is affordable, tasty and healthy to my standards. Not sure what the bad reviews are about, the staff here is friendly and they always remembers my name and what I like to order. I get a good community vibe here and it keeps me coming back. read more

Don't judge a book by its cover. This place isn't fancy or super cozy, but it's products are good. Our group ordered a cappuccino, mocha, and Moroccan tea and sat out on the back patio and our drinks were all very well done. No complaints here! read more

Fairfix. Humble. They do coffe well here. They can make a caffe latte properly AND it is cheaper than their competitors. The food is pretty darned good. Their melt is yummy. They get the food out to you in a hurry as well. The wifi is free--IF you order something. I've seen people whining about that condition, but dude, if you're too cheap to order a cup of coffee to get the wifi, then you're too cheap to complain about the lack of wifi. LOL. Ok, so in summation, food OK to Good. Wifi OK to Good. Coffee drinks Excellent. Other clientele, variable. A good cross section of Fairfax, with some movie-theater crowd thrown in. Window seats are great on a rainy day with split pea soup. Moments I will always remember. Fairplay to Fairfax! read more

FairFix cafe is incredible! I've tried many meals here and I find this place to be really amazing, fresh tasting, generous portions, and a great business owner. My favorite item on the menu is the chicken sandwich and the chicken pesto salad sandwich. Both are amazing! Their soups are tasty too! read more

I have loved this cafe for a very long time. Studied for my degree here, have often played table games with a warm chai with friends on rainy nights, admired the revolving artwork - it is a warm environment. I do miss the daytime Latino who worked here for years since his personality has not been replaced. Can't believe I've forgotten his name. The food is delicious and full of love. Med plate one of my favorites! My only complaint is cleanliness! The bathroom could use a major deep clean - dusting, painting, that nasty cart that they keep all the toxic cleaning supplies could be converted to a smaller more closed in space. But the worst is the outside patio. It needs some tender love. We certainly appreciate the outdoor space, but maybe a wood container for the stinky garbage and recycling bins. And much appreciation for allowing dogs in the back - but that dog poop needs to be watched out for. Some patrons are obnoxious to allow their dogs to poop back there. And the cafe needs to ensure it is picked up when it does happen. I've seen poop back there too often. Not pleasant. Doesn't make me excited to sit back there. And until Mas Masa came to town - was the only place you could eat outside with a meal right downtown. (Iron Springs and Good Earth much further away and Peris deli and Mana Bowl on other side of SFD also for eating outside) Other than that... a huge fan. Cleanliness next to godliness Fairfix . Thanks for listening! read more

Fair Fix Cafe has been a great haunt for me, my partner and even my adult son at times in the last five years. I love the outdoor patio and the staff has often helped me out. I'm a simple city boy from San Francisco California and I know a great restaurant when I see one. My standards are simple great food and a comfortable environment and trust me when I say that the Fairfax Cafe surpassed them all. This is the most delicious avocado salad that I've ever had! The Pinnacle of avocado to salad ratio, the freshest ingredients, and when others would have contemplated on including cucumbers or olives or peppers the Fairfax Cafe bet the house and included them all! You included a pre-sliced baguette to boot! I was not expecting that so much so I was reluctant to even touch the baguette while consuming this delicious salad for fear of struggling with a stale gigantic piece of bread normally found at weaker establishments. But to my surprise it was fresh and pre-sliced. It's the little things like that that make your restaurant unique and stand out from the rest. Not to mention the convenience of Android pay. After ordering my salad the workers quickly got to work assembling it and to my dismay I realized I left my wallet in the car. How 2017 of you to have a modernized and convenient pay system available for the absent-minded professional! Without missing a beat I whipped out my phone, paid for my order included a 20% tip, and was out the door on my way back to San Francisco without missing a Beat! FairFix Cafe - Avocado salad! All this for just $10! - Sandwiches Near Me - Fairfax, California

Above and beyond service and extremely accommodating. If you're in the fairfax area and need something to eat, definitely stop by!

The OLD Fairfix was comfy, simple, nice casual meeting spot but this NEW Fairfix Cafe....WOW. If it had already attracted the crowds it deserves, I would be tempted to keep it a secret. Dollar oyster happy hour most days, very nice wines and coffees. So far 100% on dishes we've ordered (oysters, lobster Mac n'cheese, a beet duet salad with burrata and carrot cake) and a menu that is definitely tempting us back to try other things. They still have a Mediterranean plate and similar items if you are missing the old Fairfix but now you will get table service. Really nice staff and they were setting up for music later. Oh yes and a lovely back patio where dogs are welcome. read more

Recommend the bagel sandwich with cream cheese, tomato, red onion, and sprouts. Put black pepper on it, like we do. Don't look at the art on the wall. They have a good mediterranean salad too. Their cream cheese is dense and slightly sweet. Cafe au'laits are good too. read more

I've been going to Fairfix for the past decade and the food is always A+. I always order the grilled chicken sandwich on focaccia and I'm never disappointed. However, in recent months when I come in to eat, the woman working the register has been quite rude. I always smile and give a tip, yet she treats me and even my peers like a lesser. Other than that the food is awesome. read more

Dear Abby, I was on the hunt for the Falafel Hut. I drove on down 4th street after extreme and stupid 101 traffic. I had not eaten since breakfast Abby, and it was 1:30. I could did not find the Falafel Hut. The suggestion of fried falafel wrapped securely in a toasted lofty pita with tahini sauce and fresh cucumber, well it had me salivating. I drove onward, in hopes of finding something, somewhere, anywhere to fill my hunger. I ended up in Crazy Fairfax. There's not much here for eats. Not much, but the little they have has so far seemed good. What's this on my left? I spied a cafe with hummus on the menu! It was touting Mediterranean Platters! Here! Here! I stepped in and went for the counter. Falafel Sandwich with hummus please! Cardamom Cinnamon Tea to drink. This is where it gets weird Abby. I went out to the "back patio" which was small, but there were tables & chairs, trees and shrubs. Not bad. Except for the strange man there. Why was he going in the shed over in the corner? Is that a plastic coffee mug that he's storing in there? o k a y.... Does this man live back here? Am I infringing on his bedroom? Living room? Suddenly very self-conscious that I was back there while he was putting things in, taking things out, preparing a backpack, I poured over the menu. Looked really tasty, I was excited for my sandwich. Strange Man exited, My pitas arrived. By way of another Strange Man. The waiter asked me was I new here, so I said yes. This was comforting and scary at the same time. Seems they know their clientele, a plus. I am a Paranoia Princess, so when he started asking me about where I live and saying he hoped I'd come back, I was flattered and wanted to run a little. But I had on cowboy boots Abby, and those are cumbersome to tear down the road in. Plus, I was hungry. You know? So, sandwich. Sadly pita not toasted. Falafels not crispy and needed a little more flavor all-round. But I happily ate my meal, and the hummus was creamy, lemony and nice. The tea stole the show. Spicy, crisp and flavorful. I drank to the last drop. Then Abby, it gets odd again. I went to the restroom, washed my hands and then to make my exit. I walked toward the door and noticed the guy from the counter standing there and he went to leave as I did. ? Uhh, thanks for the sandwich, was tasty. Good, I hope you'll be back. I am just catching the bus to San Rafael he told me like 7 times. Dude wanted a ride! Not uh! Ain't no kinda way Sir. So, you understand why I won't be back Abby. But, could you frequent it from time to time and let me know if they ever add some flavor to their falafel? Also, see if that Guy's still out back. Sincerely, Sonoma Scaredy read more

Since the Roastery was closed for renovations, the cycling gals stopped in here for our caffeine fix before proceeding up to Alpine Dam. It's an average coffee cafe. It's a little grungy, but I expected more Fairfax *character*, and Fair Fix really didn't seem to have it. They do have free wi-fi, but we weren't there to surf. Coffee seemed fine. Wonderful food, wonderful service. Right in the middle of Fairfax. A classic Fairfax spot to go eat, drink coffee, and hang out.

I love Fair Fix for lunch. The cabrese salad is delish, and I know people who have traveled miles for their jambalaya. I understand that they have fabulous pesto tuna melts as well. The little surprising twist to Fair Fix is that it is a lunch place masquerading as a coffee shop. That's the tricky part though; the tiled tables, the free wi-fi, the local artist displays, and couches laden with slouching teens; it's all just a cover. And this, at times, can leave people confused and a little wounded. I am sure that many people walk in and think, "Hey, cozy interior, angst-ridden young people: I'll bet this place does some good pastries and coffee." They are wrong though. The coffee will be served to from a thermos and will be tepid and bland. The pastry will be store bought and have the spongy, partially-hydrogenated feel of a Twinkie. Too many times I have seen the frowns of newcomers as they scowl in annoyance at the teens for having mislead them into believing that this was a place that served coffee. Was it all a brilliant marketing scheme? Were the teens employed to roll languidly off the furniture just to lure customers into the false delusion that this is a choice coffee local? No, the teens know what;s up. You can get coffee anywhere: at the Fair Fix, you get a light and tasty meal. read more

Had the fairfix melt, which sounded better than it was - pesto, tomato, mushroom, cheese, on wheat bread. Might have been better on focaccia, but wasn't given that option. Service, wait time, and attitude were bad. Mocha was great, though. GF wasn't too excited by her meal, either. I would stop here if I was refueling after a ride on Mt.
