I needed a quiet solid place to study for a while so i decided to go in Fairfix and hang for a bit. I ordered the tofu burger, which is pretty good and some iced coffee, decent. Warning: if you decide to go mid afternoonish on a weekday, you might get the flock of highschoolers just getting out of school which tends to get a bit loud but overall a good spot. Cheap, folksy and honest. It's easy to see why this is a local hang-out all day every day. At the height of activity it's a busy little lunch spot. What one doesn't expect is that it that stays open late and also serves the night crowd. Good selection of sandwiches and drinks and decent service too. I always order the Mediterranean plate (not salad) as I've ordered a few other items and have been disappointed. I always get it to go, why; maybe the previous reviewer is on to something with the vent issue. It is a little funky inside, I don't know if it's the patrons or the lack of a kitchen fan, but it is a little funky. So, as you can see by my other reviews im becoming more and more keen on Marin eats and treats. But this place is just rad! lets see, they are right in the main drag of one the most incredible little community oriented spots in the bay area, their coffee is delicious, but that's not all. They make homemade soups that will knock your socks off daily, if you're looking for a light breakfast treat their bagel set ups are awesome! Thick slices of creams cheese, and whatever sides you order come on the side and are always super fresh and tasty. the guys who work there are really friendly, and again seem to know everyone. My favorite place to grab a bit to eat in Fairfax. I jump between the Mediterranean plate, the Falafel plate and the Hummus plate - all fairly similar. I LOVE their hummus....mmmmm...I'm getting hungry. The free wi-fi is an extra plus. I often head over there late at night for some tea, and time to check my email. The staff is nice, the food is good, the people who eat there are eclectic, down to earth, friendly people. I love this little place; it's become a part of what I consider home :) read more

I love Fairfix. I used to hang out there all the time and they had really good food. It's only due to food allergies I've developed that I don't eat there anymore. Fairfix has great tasty and healthy food, friendly staff, and is comfortable. It used to be like a second living room to my friends and I albeit one that serves good food and where you are sure to, if you live in the area, run into friends or see them strolling about downtown through the large windows. Love, love, love the white hot chocolate (so sweet and delicious - always makes me feel wonderful), the orange carrot ginger fresh juice (not too much ginger). This place is great for a good drink in fairfax, I like their chai. The food can be a bit dicey, anything with hummus is great, but some of their sandwiches can be a bit dry. All in all though a great spot - and on a nice day - being in the back outdoor sitting area can't be beat. read more

VENTILATION.....they NEED it. nice people, free wifi, decent enough food menu, crappy coffee (but no big deal, and common outside of the cities these days). open til 11pm, it's an okay place to hang out at and great for Marin. but the air quality is TERRIBLE. i've never once been there when people weren't complaining about it. many i know don't go there for this reason. it's a shame because otherwise it's the only non-bar option in Marin with wifi open kinda late. it's not just the onion and burnt toast smell that most people notice. it's the recooked grease in the air that really gets to me. just get some ventilation....pretty please read more

I am absolutely obsessed with their Cesar salad. Any chance I get, I'm there. However, sadly, I have noticed the last three times I have gone there something has gone wrong... a bug in my salad, a piece of who-knows-what stuck in my ice cube in my fresh squeezed lemonade. Worker handling bread with bare hands that just handled money. Unsanitary! Isn't that against some health code? Barely civil workers. Ironically, nice to other rude people only. Weird. Obviously first time there, I asked if they had wifi. They said "yes." Didn't bother to give me the password. Had to find out there was one after I ordered, waited for my food, sat, opened my computer. I live across the street from this usually wonderful little cafe hangout. I don't usually hang out there but I had a big test and its a great place for a study group to go. So four days in a row me and a couple people are in there studying. Pushed two tables together. I alone dropped at least $20 a day on food and drinks. So one night I go up to order some tea. The employee tells me that there is a minimum purchase for internet use . I dont have a computer or a phone that uses internet so I smile and say I dont need the internet. He then says that I always push the tables together and they are super busy and we are staying there too long using tables. I look around at the 6 or so empty tables and smile sweetly and say that I wont do it anymore. I'm a clean cut college student, quiet, considerate etc. Ordering their food all day and yet they were looking for every excuse for me to leave. I don't get it. read more

Labeled as a Mediterranean restaurant. When I ordered the gyro, I should have been suspicious when I was asked if I wanted it in a tortilla! Someone with me got a grilled cheese--yes, a cheese sandwich as a Med rest. When I first looked at it, I was disappointed that it didn't have cucumbers, a hallmark of the dish. Food is good but the people that work there just have a crappy attitude and are not friendly! Sometimes I go just to have the falafel plate but I cringe when I think of having to face those workers at the counter. Cash only but there's a pricey ATM right there in by the register. read more

This place does have good food, but I always wish it was more than it is. There is just something missing in the atmosphere of this cafe. I just wish there was a cool, funky cafe that reflected Fairfax. Maybe it's the staff that lacks funk, or the grungy film on everything. read more

i found this place more of a coffee house, than a cafe. when i came in for lunch, i noticed that newspapers and other reading materials were all scattered in one corner of the cafe by the window and it's quite messy. a posting board can be found at the back towards the bathroom with tons of things for sale, missing pets, tutorials, & etc. a couch and a coffee table (with more newspapers on it) is comfortably situated in the middle of the cafe. we kind of waited long for our food, for there was only one person fixing /preparing the foods. i had their mediterranean salad with generous portion of romaine lettuce, tabouleh, feta cheese, tomatoes, onions and olives, while my friend had a roast beef sandwich. both foods were quite tasty and satisying. read more

I have mixed feelings about this venue. Some of the counter help is sometimes very unprofessional, rude and play music that keeps the morning customers out, it's loud and not the sort of thing the customers appreciate. Food ranges from good to, meh. The pastries aren't very good. I've been coming here off and on since they opened and, quite frankly the new owner needs to get the staff in line or restaff somewhat and do something to the menu and the atmosphere to "gussy it up". read more

I used to go there regularly, but not so much any more. Food ranges  from mediocre, to very good standard cafe fare. The prices are really good. Portions have been reduced on the med plate and a few other items.  Some of the counter help is nice but others tend  to be smarmy and disrespectful towards some of their customers, especially disabled and financially challenged customers. It is never polite to talk about someone in a language they don't understand and laugh. Sometimes the music's too loud sometimes and always seems to be what the workers want and not nec challenged. Food was average. My wife and I split the mediterranean plate and the mediterranean pizza. The plate comes with the usual suspects: pita, hummus, tabouleh, dolmas, feta cheese, salad and falafel. The pita tasted store bought and wasn't anything to write home about and the hummus that we dipped it in was bland. We can get better pita and hummus at trader joes. Falafel was a bit tasteless and dry to boot. All else on the plate was okay. The pizza was actually a little better. Toppings included feta cheese, tomatoe, onion. The bread it came on was warm at least. Prices were very reasonable for the amount of food we got. But something needs to be said for taste. Service was perfectly fine. From other reviews, it sounds like the beverages are a safe bet, but we didn't have any. And it seemed like other patrons drinking their coffees and wired into their laptops were happy enough. Don't think this place is going to get a second chance from us for food. But we could stop in here for a cup of joe or smoothie next time around. Or not. read more
