We've visited this restaurant several times over the years and it's always been a great experience. This time my wife and I split a veggie calzone (sorry, no photos). It's long, about a foot, and was steaming hot and crispy with great flavors. I like how it was garnished with fresh arugula. Maybe because we also shared a Bruschetta with our friends, but even two of us couldn't finish it. We also got to sample the pizza our friends ordered. Both were excellent. really wanted to like this place. I love supporting local, family-run businesses, and I came in with genuinely good intentions. Unfortunately, this was one of the worst café experiences I've had. From the moment I arrived, the service felt off. I was greeted, but also noticeably stared at in a way that felt judgmental and unwelcoming--never a great first impression in a hospitality setting. Their Wi-Fi was down, and the area has very poor cell service, which essentially made it impossible to work. While outages happen, there was no acknowledgment or apology, and it's a major issue for a café that appears to position itself as a place to sit and work. Ordering was another problem. I asked for a matcha latte, and no follow-up questions were asked--no hot or iced, no milk preference. I had to track the barista down myself to clarify. The drink itself was honestly terrible: extremely bitter, grassy, and undrinkable. I left most of it untouched. At nearly $10, it was also the most expensive (and worst) matcha I've ever had. The biggest issue, however, was how payment was handled. Their POS system was down, and I was asked to pay in cash. I didn't have cash, which is normal in 2026. Instead of apologizing or offering a solution, I was bluntly told to "sit down" and wait--despite explaining that I had a scheduled meeting and needed to leave. At one point, I was told the only way I could leave was by handing over my credit card information to be written down and kept behind the counter. That is completely inappropriate and unsecured, and I refused. The situation became uncomfortable enough that other customers visibly noticed, and at least one couple left because of how rudely staff were speaking to guests. Eventually, I had to call a friend to bring cash just to resolve a $10 charge, which still took unnecessary time due to confusion between staff. I fully understand that small businesses have bad days. Systems go down. Things happen. But hospitality is about how you handle those moments. There was no apology, no accommodation, and no respect for customers' time or boundaries. I hate leaving negative reviews for local businesses, but I cannot recommend this place in good faith--especially when there are nearby cafés that offer good service, functional systems, Wi-Fi, and basic courtesy. read more

I've enjoyed coming here often on for probably 10 years now. And that says it all - in this time or restaurants come and go, especially with Covid happening, this place has stood the test of time. You order at the counter and pay up front. The menu is full of different options for pizza... with salads, calzones, and some Italian dishes as well. This visit I ordered the pepperoni pizza and a glass of rosé. (I ordered another glass of rosé after sitting, and it was brought to me easily and quickly as well!) Open seating, seat yourself, and I'll bring you the food and drinks there's an outdoor patio with some heat lamps if it's chilly - abundant seating is present. The staff is very family like and friendly. Very personable. The food is delicious. It was a conscious choice to come here on the day I went, and I chose this place over two other places I get pizza regularly in the area. The pizza had a delicious crust, flavorful sauce, the right amount of cheese, and lots of pepperoni. They are open for lunch and dinner, so you can get the food goodness all day long. I tend to gravitate towards places that make me feel comfortable and welcome. Not to mention - good food and drinks! I came here on a Sunday afternoon, and sat outside on the covered patio. Weather was nice. Service was ok, could have been a bit more cordial, but I was looking for pizza. There was a good selection of pies and I landed on the Spoleto, which is a mushroom and sausage pizza. It was very tasty, but next time I'll as them to keep it in the fire for another 5 minutes to get the center a bit more crispy. Overall enjoyed the pie and would recommend coming again. read more

My go to dish is the vegetarian calzone, it is generously sized and full of a variety of seasonal veggies. Came in for the first time on Sunday evening with my sister and brother in law. Greeted and seated by the window. Ordered two pizzas -one Caesar salad -two glasses of red wine -and a red velvet cake for dessert. Truly one of the best pizzas we have ever had. Fantastic chewy crust. Do not understand one of the reviews saying you have to order at the counter lest you look entitled? we intended to order at the counter but before we could, we were very graciously waited on and served. Maybe that has changed since that review . It wasn't that busy so maybe that was why? Anyway, it was a great experience, great dinner, and enjoyed our time there very much. First time visiting after seeing it mentioned someplace on ND. Too cold to sit outside but I'm fully vaccinated so I felt comfortable sitting in their sheltered patio. I ordered a caprese salad, the eggplant parm and a glass of Prosecco. The portions of food were very large. Enough for another meal for take home! The tomatoes definitely looked heirloom and the fresh mozzarella was so smooth. Eggplant was tasty with lots of sauce and basil. Fresh parm was also left on the table. Bread was offered, but I declined. It was not inexpensive. But I'm looking at it from the point of two meals vs one. While it is counter ordering, the owner works the tables as service. Don't get the Daddy Special. His fault for taking advantage of me or my fault for showing such desperation and letting him? $5 for a tiny 10oz bottled orange juice that wasn't even fresh squeezed? Am I at Disneyland? After a tiring hour at the playground, I walked my kids over to the cafe out of convenience to get myself a Latte and pick something up for the kids to drink. 1 Latte + 2 orange juices totaled $15 even! How convenient that the price was exactly $15, almost like he made up the prices on the spot. I expect to pay a mark up at a retail store, but this was crazy. Worse than a movie theater. A 64oz would cost $2.86 at Walmart. Maybe I should've driven there and gotten myself 6.4 bottles for half the price of 1 baby bottle here. Ridiculous. In hindsight, I should've just left the Latte at the counter and walked out. Just the principle of this was gross, but I guess I blame myself for not walking out when I should have. Generally, when I have a choice, I pick the independently owned place to support, but next time it'll Starbucks where they won't charge me an arm and a leg. Just sad that I was trying to do the right thing in times like this to support the mom and pops and the owner ends up taking advantage of me. I was dying for some chicken so I ordered the risotto con pollo. It arrived in about 45 minutes and I tipped the driver well - grateful for the spontaneity of ordering on Valentines eve and getting food so promptly. As far as the cuisine went -- the chicken was cooked well, moist and tasty. But the risotto... the risotto.. it was a veritable salt mine explosion (and I was the canary). So much salt!! I was up all night hydrating to offset and counter the saline buzz. They say any chef who over-salts food is either trying to compensate for lack of culinary skills or is just in a hurry to be done and get home - and I'm guessing I was the last late caller. Cute little outdoorish place. Open wall to the street gives it an outdoor feel. Looks to be family run. Menu is good for all meals and just a snack. Hours are 8am to 9pm everyday of the week. Egg wraps and sandwiches for breakfast, great coffee, also. Nice fresh salads with homemade dressings. Sandwiches, burritos, pizzas (that look pretty good and I did ask and they will do thin crust) and pannis for lunch or dinner. There were three soup options when we were there for lunch. I did spy an ice cream cooler, so must have that essential item, also. Sliders are an entre item. Beer and wine served. A number of beers on tap. They seem to have the bases covered. Tables inside and outside. Location is adjacent to a park where we have taken our grandchildren for some sport events. The cafe is very convenient. Cute place, nothing fancy, it is clean and the people who work there really make the effort, successfully, to be friendly and accommodating. Prices are OK. read more

For delivery it is less expensive than other places but next time I am in the mood for delivery pizza I will splurge and go somewhere else. This is one of my favorite Marin cafes to meet up/catch up with friends. Charming, cozy, friendly, bohemian, European, unpretentious... those are just some of the many adjectives that come to mind when I think of Cafe Verde. This is one of the few cafes in Marin that serves Illy coffee (my favorite). Sitting in their outdoor patio with an espresso macchiato, a pastry (or cookie), and watching suburban life go by with Mt. Tam in the background - that's pretty much as good as it gets. In the four years I've been coming here, I still haven't tried their pizza or other menu offerings (which all looks de-lish). But I'm sure I'll rectify that in good time. read more

I'm writing this review for the ambience. I stopped in while waiting for a meeting and came for a cup of hot cocoa. Of course they offer it with soy milk which was good. And since I only had hot cocoa - which was decent it wasn't Burdicks hot cocoa which is the standard I measure everything to - it was OK. The ambience is very nice they have seating at a bar near the pizza oven where you can watch sports on the big TV. Hopefully some World Cup! They also have indoor seating that is vented so you feel like you're outdoors and can sit here during all kinds of weather. The outdoor seating is excellent they have plenty of tables with umbrellas and the parking is easy next to a shopping center. The staff is very friendly and the place is quite clean. They also serve wine, gelato, pastries and breakfast items, as well as pizza and other items. As a place to work they have Wi-Fi and plenty of seating during a weekday morning. So this is an excellent place to bring your laptop as they have music playing lately in the background, lots of fresh air and overall relaxing atmosphere. I plan to come back to try the food sometime. read more

I've been disappointed in this restaurant since the benissimo's original owners retired. Used to love their calzones and salads. Both the service and the food are very mediocre now. Tried it a couple of times since the change hoping it would improve but at the this point, I'll step aside for other restaurants for awhile. Hope they improve as the setting is great for causal eating and it is well set up for pandemic seating. read more

I did note the kind of "indifferent" character of server, Antonios, I believe owner/manager of Cafe Verde this last time I picked up a take out, not having left me with a "kind" kind of feeling, as if my purchase wasn't quite appreciated... This is not very helpful in rating Cafe Verde in their customer service.... I understand that may be he hadn't had quite a good day, but, friendliness to customers is always noted and not easily forgotten, in turn creating a high chance for that customer to return.... I had also noticed a month or so earlier that this server wasn't very friendly to one of his staff, shown right in front of his customers! myself at the time... very unprofessional, I may add..
