How do you assign negative stars? Ordered the super special 1/3lb Larry's angus burger. Showed up with a nice side of fries. Fries were crispy. Burger was so damn over cooked and void of any flavor or moisture it must have been days old. For it to be on the grill for supposedly that long one would think the cheese would actually melt. It was just as cold and useless as the burger. Brought it up to the counter. Figured they must have just made a mistake. Not like they were busy because they were not. Replacement was just as if not more disgusting. I left that pile of sh$& on the table and left. Doubtful they could actually produce a decent burger. What a damn disgrace. I had a hankering for a patty melt, so I googled it and found that Pit Stop Diner was highly rated for those. They were relatively busy considering the COVID-19 pandemic (a pleasant surprise). So here are my pros and cons: Pros: Friendly service I like the decor--where did they get all of those license plates? (Unlike other reviewers, I would not call this a "hole in the wall"--it's a restaurant.) Cons: The same friendly guy never changed his gloves in the half-hour I was there--he was taking money and packaging the food. He also wasn't wearing a mask (nor was one of the cooks). The patty melt smelled of fish (ick!), had two patties of meat that were wayyy over-cooked, and it had almost zero grilled onions. (I'm puzzled how a grilled sandwich would sell like fish--they didn't put it in the fryer, so?) The fries smelled strongly of fish too. I like fish, but I don't want my food to smell like fish, especially if that's not what I ordered. They need to have a separate fryer. I looked at their menu online before I went in. It says "upgrading" your burger with onion rings, salad, etc costs $1.80. When the man at the register rang up my order, the fries (regular size) were $2.89. I told him what the menu says, and he replied that the online menu is ten years old. So...what? They need to update their menu or be held to the prices represented. I feel for people in the food industry who have lost their jobs, and restaurants that are struggling to stay open, so I hate to give a fairly negative review. But, as I said, Pit Stop had a steady stream of customers and the restaurant should be going out of their way to put out a great product. This is a good time to build your customer base. read more

I am disappointed with the quality and quantity of Pit Stop when ordered through a delivery service lately. I usually order at least 3 times a week sometimes more. Every order of chicken strips that I have ordered contained 3 strips with fries. Today I received 2 orders with 2 small strips and barely any fries (handful) I contacted Pit Stop and was told the order is only 2 strips...... I just ordered the same thing a day ago and twice a week since Feb 2018. 2 strips are in the kids meal. They have lost a regular customer because the attitude and lack of customer service and transparency from the "manager" was not acceptable. I will share this review on every social media platform there is and encourage my friends and business associates to patronize Paul's Place or anywhere else where customer service is a priority. read more

My son loves traffic signs so he was really amazed at all the signs inside this place. As far as the food goes, it's ok. Kinda like an upgraded Denny's. I ordered the steak and eggs and the steak was a little dry, even though I ordered medium. Eggs that were supposed to be over easy were a little overcooked. My kid had a burger and it was a little bland. The omellete my wife ordered was cooked just right though and it tasted good. Would have been nice if there was a little consistency with how our food was cooked. Also had a milkshake and it was very rich and creamy. I probably won't come back for the food but seeing the excitement on my son's face as the traffic lights inside this place change colors is enough to make me return. read more

So much to look at, awesome theming and great for kids if they like cars. Huge menu! Lots of food for a great price, got the steak dinner and it was delicious! Salad was fresh, came with zucchini fries, regular fries, onion rings, and bread. Super busy but they stayed on top of orders while only having 4 people working. Clean environment with workers wiping things down, and I was happy to see that masks were required to order. We visited the area for just a few days and came here twice! First time we had a bunch of food and it was all pretty good typical diner food. The shakes/malts are great. They are definitely reminisce of old fashioned style shakes. The second visit was actually just to get malts. Next time we are in town we will be back for sure. I usually order the grilled chicken salad but have tried the hamburgers, sandwiches, and of course the dessert are amazing. With a huge menu and too hungry to search the entire menu board, I do the first thing anybody with an appetite for anything would do: Ask the employee. I ended up getting the Pit Stop Burger, Fries and a Drink for the price of $7.11. The burger was amazing btw. Two things that immediately make a bomb @$$ burger: Avocado & BACON!! That is, if you aren't allergic! d:D About the Fries -- I wish they were endless. The Drink -- I did a mixture between Strawberry Fanta and Lemonade. Here's a tip 1/16 Fanta, the rest Lemonade. It's the good stuff. You get a little fizz to go with that lemon. Now after finishing my meal, I couldn't just stop with my $7.11 meal. I had to add an extra 2-3 something and get a Strawberry Sundae on a Sunday. Three mouth-(freezing) scoops of deliciousness topped with cherries. What more could you ask for? American food, burgers, sandwiches, hotdogs, etc. My favorite is the junkyard dog it has jalapeños, onions, bell peppers, mustard, relish, cheese I get this when I go minus a few toppings which I tell the person taking my order. The French fries are good not too salty or greasy. The drink station is cool with different flavors to add to your soda, they also have lemons and ketchup, napkins etc. The prices are reasonable. The decor is fun lots of license plates, rims and other car related items. While your waiting in line they have traffic lights posted up front flashing red, yellow and green as if you were on the road, adds a nice touch to the whole vibe here. read more

Nothing fancy here but sometimes simple is the best. My first time here. I got the garden burger with mushrooms and cheese. The combo comes with fries and a drink. The burger was so tasty. I will definitely be back to try their fried mushrooms. Everything on the menu looks so good. It's very casual but when you looks around everyone is having a good time. There is outdoor seating so perfect for the furry one. This place is located inside a plaza and since I am not familiar with Oceanside I got lost. After turning into the plaza you will see Petco. Turn R and head towards the Library and the police station. Past that and keep going all the way to the end; on the right corner. Plenty of parking in the plaza. I absolutely love this place - their chicken tender wrap, fries, and made in-house ranch are to die for. I dare you to try it!

THE PASTRAMI HERE IS AMAZING: It has a lighter texture and spicier flavor than the usual heavy, soggy, bland pastrami I'm used to eating. You have to try JIMBO'S SWISS MELT, which is a pastrami melt with swiss, mustard, pickles... SO UNIQUE AND DELICIOUS!!! I also got an OREO MALT SHAKE which was perfect-- not too watery, not an overdose on the malt-flavor... For dessert, I tried their vanilla CUPCAKES. They told me they bake them in-house. I could tell they baked them from scratch-- I can taste boxed cake mix from a mile away. They also only cost $1.50, which given its size and quality is ridiculously amazing. For example, the bakery Mrs. Beasley's charges at least $3 for a cupcake that size, and those taste stale and bland. Lastly, the cupcake was frosted pink and sprinkled like a birthday cake, so it's fun treat for kids and adults alike. I also noticed they have fresh CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES (.75 cents each) and various fresh MUFFINS (looked like blueberry and banana nut). read more

My Pit Stop go to faves are the fried mushrooms, zucchini fries and the chicken strip wrap. That was the case until the other day. I put in a phone order and the person on the other line was not exactly friendly and customer service wasn't exactly his priority at the time. When I picked it up at the counter, the order was wrong and both the zucchini fries and fried mushrooms were soggy looking. They usually pack to go orders in a box but that time, they threw it in paper bags and plastic bags so it looked even more gross and messy. Since my phone order did not match what was originally in the bag, the employee did not adjust the price difference and I had to pay more until he gave me the difference in change. This whole experience was frustrating and disappointing of all the times I've been here. I have also decided that this will be the last time I will go here and I am willing to drive further to hit up the Vista location instead. As a suggestion for those who want to phone order, don't do it! Going through this experience totally defeated the purpose of phone ordering as it took 4x as long and apparently more complicated. read more

So was in downtown Oceanside with one of my kids, and had a hankering for a good burger. We stopped in at Ty's Burger House, but it was almost 9:00PM and they were getting ready to close. Oh my god!!! What are we gonna do??? Well, my kid, Dave, says to me..."Dad, I think there's a place up the street just past El Camino Real. I ate in there once." So I say..."Let's go". Pit Stop Diner is located just east of El Camino Real on Mission Road (Hwy 76) in the same plaza where the Oceanside Police Department is. The place was well lit, had a couple huge tables that looked like they could accommodate about twenty people or so. Also had a couple smaller tables seating maybe eight people or so, and then a bunch of tables accommodating maybe three or four folks each. The décor is more for the motorhead in ya with black and white tile border around the walls, tons of license plates on the walls and stuff, some traffic signs and even a couple traffic lights. They even have a vintage car right in the middle of the dining area. There was another room off the main dining area that was labeled "Joe's Garage". It was closed, but I think it was like a party room or something. They have a pretty good menu to choose from including burgers and chicken. Burgers ya can get as a single, 2X2, 3X3, and I even think a 4X4. They come with lettuce, tomato and onion, but you can order without too. They got other sandwiches on the menu too, but I just didn't pay any attention. They got sides like fries and onion rings. There are two soda fountains available plus bottled drinks and milk shakes and malts. The place is no frills. Ya order your food at the counter, and they bring it to your table. Food is served in a paper lined plastic baskets with plastic utensils. The price was cheap for what you get, you'd probably pay more at McDonalds. The food was cooked just right and imagine this...it was pretty tasty too. Overall a very nice dining experience. Gonna have to come back sometime soon and try one of their shakes. read more

The diner is right on the corner or El Camino Real and Mission and shares a parking lot with the Oceanside Police department. When you walk into the front door it feels like you've stepped into a hugh garage or airplane hangar. The place was wide open with cement floors. The walls were covered in diner décor of vintage coca cola signs, Elvis Presley and tons of old license plates. The restaurant center piece was a 1960's Chysler New Yorker . It was a beauty. Not too often you get to dine next to such a cool car. They had a good selection of shakes, melts, burgers and fried sides. The food was meh. I got the chicken strips wrap. The chicken strips inside weren't fried well so the breading was pretty mushy. The wrap had the chicken, ranch, cheese, lettuce and tomato. Was a good combo of ingredients and would have been pretty decent if the checking was all mushy. The friend mushrooms were superb and the ranch was on point. My date ordered the ruben and the pastrami was a little dry but still decent. Another member of my part ordered the avocado burger. It looked pretty good but the patty was pretty thin. Like a 1/4 lb or so. This made the meat to bun ratio look a little off. read more

You can never go wrong with a visit to Pit Spot! Better then any close by Denny's or IHOP, period! I came here for breakfast and I ate as if I had a set of twins in me. First was the pancake combo which included two eggs ( however you want them), sausage and toast; just your standard breakfast items but I swear they sprinkle extra love on the plates to make the pancakes soft and fluffy and runny yolk from egg was pure sex in my mouth! Next up, the pastrami, egg and bacon sa which on Rye bread. Oh my God, this sandwich did not need cheese cause everything about it was down right sinfully succulent!! The pastrami was one of the best I've tried, just get it and believe! There's always parking and you will never get robbed because it's located right next to Oceanside Police station. The staff is nice and quick with dishing plates out for he customers. Also, this place has some cool decor inside. A classic car theme look with a classic car in the middle of the restaurant, baller! If you are from here or visiting, Pit Stop should be your first stop in filling up with some good food. read more

I like this location better than the money pit. Although, I love the drive thru at the money pit. I'm torn. The decoration is worlds apart from the drab that is the money pit. However, owned by the same individual, the menu here is exactly the same as the money pit. But for some reason, this place seems more opened, better lit and inviting. A group of us shared several appetizer items, a sampler of sorts. It was actually pretty decent in terms of size as we all left full. I wasn't too crazy about the deep fried mushrooms as each bite contained a burst of oil. Sad. Contrary to my earlier objections with the Money Pit's style of zucchini fries, they seem to rectify the oversized zuchini slice with much smaller bite sized portions. Overall, this was a solid place and I digged the theme. Too bad its located in such an odd intersection and a police station that looks like a former kmart/walmart. I think my friends counted 25 lights. I wouldn't go out of my way to drive over here but if my friends ever came here again, I'd tag along. read more

Not to mention it says they are open until 11 and when you call they won't answer! Such a cool Diner with very reasonable prices. One of our favorite things about them was that they stayed open until 11 and had great service. Please don't start to fail now! You can bring a family of four and spend about $30. Great salads, wraps and their ice cream sundaes are off the charts! 3 scoops of homemade ice cream with toppings huge for under $5. Serve breakfast lunch and dinner. Inside and outside seating. AFFORDABLE. FAST. CHEAP. We arrived here by accident one late evening. It was past 10 and we need ANYTHING to eat at that point. We see this place is open and pull in. I had never heard of it, even being a local. To our surprise there was a huge menu and friendly people. We ordered a double burger and a patty melt. We went outside because we figured it would take forever. To our surprise someone brought our order to the parking lot. Hot and fresh! Who would usually bother to find the customer? These guys! To top it off the prices were lower than I have ever seen. The employees were happy to be there. There was nobody on their phones texting with only 20 minutes to go until close. It was a breath of fresh air. I was very impressed at the visit, but what happens if I go back the next morning? (insert fast forward here) So the next morning we are driving by. I was determined to catch them off guard. We ordered an affordable 2 egg breakfast, and an omelet. Once again, VERY AFFORDABLE. We went to go outside to talk and YET again someone was bringing our order to the parking lot. Great service on multiple shifts means that there is a good management system in place. I've been around the block a few times and it is rare to find different shifts that care that much. Even if the food was bad, I would be impressed with the service. The problem is that the food was spot on. I have 5 years experience of eating DENNYS day in and day out and this is FAR better. The atmosphere hasn't changed bit almost everything else has. They switched from Coca-Cola products to Pepsi. The menu has really been switched up. The prices used to ensure my family came here as their favorite spot, but the price increases are really up there. Some ofy favorites like the junkyard dog is gone.
