I visited this spot after receiving a strong recommendation from family, but sadly, it fell short of expectations. The best part of the experience was the great outdoor seating, the friendly staff, and the reasonable prices. Food-wise, the beans were excellent and my cousin liked her chicken taco, but my fish taco was unfortunately very dry. I also tried the mango margarita, but it barely tasted like mango. 100% recommend! Granted, I'm from the PNW so any Mexican food from SoCal is amazing to me, but I'm still really really impressed. The staff were friendly, the ambiance/atmosphere was perfect, and the food was delicious! If it weren't for the humongous portion sizes I would've ordered another burrito! It was also a pretty hot day yesterday, but the entire patio is shaded and nestled against the building, so it creates a pocket of cool air. My only issue with my experience is that I had to wait about twice as long as anyone else in my party to get my meal. BUT, they were pretty slammed and maybe they had to make more fries or grilled veggies or something. I'm not complaining, just pointing out that a little extra wait is still worth it!! Was a little disappointed that the fish wasn't as crispy and flakey as I hoped. Also, the corn tortilla was overcooked and rubbery. I've definitely had better crispy fish tacos. The carne asada burrito was pretty good though. It had a decent amount of meat and had okay flavor. Not the best I've ever had, but not the worst. The food is great and the service is good, but the pricing and the aggressive shuffle for tables in their patio/bar area hold it back from being a spot I'd always recommend. Very delicious Mexican spot located in Downtown Oceanside! It's open daily 9am-9pm Sun-Thursday and 9am-10pm Fri & Sat Menu had a good variety of tacos, burritos, quesadillas, nachos, etc. Prices were reasonable and most dishes were under $20! Inside was a bit small with limited seating but it was nice they had an outdoor patio with plenty of seating, as well as a bar and lots of TVs! Parking was ok since there is nearby parking structures Staff was friendly and welcoming The World Famous Baja Fish Taco ($3.49) was amazing! It came with a huge piece of super crispy Mahi Mahi! It was so fresh and not too deep fried. Loved that it came with 2 tortillas and loved the chipotle sauce and salsa! They have a pretty nice drink selection in the fridges located inside. Along with a self serve sauce/topping area. We typically stay to eat there in the restaurant or the cute outdoor patio seating, but even when we've taken to-go the food held up nice for the drive we make. The prices and the food are the best in the area. The food was so good! I'm definitely coming back. They have a terrific HH also. The service can be challenging since you have to order from a cashier and then wait for your food. Hopefully you find seating in the bar area. The restaurant is as casual as it can be, with an ordering counter in the front room, a patio with seating area in the back, and an outdoor bar on the side that can accommodate 20+ people. We ordered Surf & Turf burrito, plus grilled fish and carnitas tacos. The food arrived in about 15 minutes. The burrito was huge, probably big enough for 2 people. Inside was packed with a heavenly mix of nicely grilled tender steak, succulent shrimps, guacamoles and devilish sauce. The carnitas tacos were tender and nicely complemented with guacamole and sauce. The grilled shrimps were fresh and had a very good texture, and mixed well with veggies and sauce. Side note, if you're ordering from the main menu the tacos are huge and not street taco size. I didn't know so I ordered 3 which ended up to be a lot. They do have Taco Tuesday deals but only your basic flavors. I ordered the spicy surf and turf, carne asada, and grilled fish. Down in Oceanside yesterday and driving towards the pier saw a Mexican restaurant on mission St. It looked crowded which is always a good sign. We were down to spend a few hours at the pier. We decided to try it on our way home. We found it to be a colorful restaurant with a good sized patio with lots of shade. Johnny Manana's is one of those where you order at a counter and they bring you the food. We ordered Birria, four à la cart with consommé, a chicken quesadillas, carnita nachos and rolled tacos. The food was very, very good and flavorful. They didn't comp with the portions which we finished only half of with four of us. The nachos were served in looked like a 10x14 baking tray, piled high with carnitas, cheese refried beans with lettuce, tomato's salsa and guacamole with sour cream. That would have been enough for all of us, but no, we ordered a lot more. The rolled tacos and quesadillas were very good and also came with the lettuce, tomatoes and such. But since we were on vacation in the San Diego area and I've heard that fish tacos are popular there, I needed to get some. And my goodness, I'm so glad that I did. Also, the service was excellent.
