I strongly advise against hosting fundraising events here. Despite our congregation being loyal customers, our partnership was a disaster. After bringing in 50 people for an event, management completely ghosted us after the event. Our calls were never returned, and we never received the promised donation. The staff lacked organization, the food quality was subpar, cleanliness wasn't met at the salsa bar and dinning area, and the experience felt predatory-the owners/management even tried to pressure us into hosting the same fundraiser event being at two places at once at their new cafe before even knowing if the fundraiser would pan out. The meat was tender, crispy on the edges, and freshly carved right in front of us at the taquero window. Great, great, great tacos. I only ordered tacos ($3.75 each) and they were very good. I got a carne asada, adobada, and cabeza taco, which came with guac, onion cilantro, salsa, and protected with double tortillas. Carne asada was the best, then cabeza, and then adobada. These tacos had that smoky flavor you like on street tacos, which is oftentimes missing in brick and mortar taquerias. The carne asada and adobada was marinated and seasoned very well and deeply. There was a depth of flavor that ascended past just salt and fat. The cabeza was super juicy and fatty, more on the salty side if you are into that. Cabeza is more of a softer, rendered meat so don't be alarmed when you order it. Service was good, and it was decently timed. You order at the register, then pickup at a window. After discovering this spot we do not get tacos anywhere else. These food here is so fresh and authentic. There is a wide array of choices, from tacos, burritos, queso tacos, birrias and more! There's also many different Agua Frescas. There are two lines- one to order and one to pick up food. When you get to the front they'll ask you what you'd like on your meals. I feel like this location is a bit underrated because everything from the service to the food quality was top-notch. Plus, it's conveniently located right off the freeway, making it super easy to stop by whether you're local or just passing through. Had friends in from Thousand Oaks and they swore by this restaurant since their daughter had lived down in San Marcos for a minute. However Once you order at the cash register you need to figure out where the line is for the "pick up". Many groups of diners were just hanging out in front of the pick up I asked the cashier where the end of line was and she kinda just pointed and somewhere over there. (Groups of 3-4 people ) not forming a line I held my ticket in view and waited on the outskirts of where the people were haphazardly waiting . Eventually a cook (they make each order fresh) waved me over It didn't take long (10 min) so not a big issue. You give the cook your ticket and advise him how you want your order prepared. I opted for "everything " that comes with it. The cook was super nice and offered me grilled veggies. Onions and jalapeños topped with a few tostada chips. The salsa bar was kept tidy and full. Lime plentiful. The drinks were the most expensive item on my order. Going on Tuesday and Thursday. Tacos are 1.99 each!! My Agua fresco was $6.29. This place. Eating for here. is geared more for the younger crowd. Music was a club vibe. Not my taste but at least it wasn't too loud. Decor funky. Mexican Coke was available for purchase. At the Escondido location in summer the cooks set up outside, which makes ordering and watching them prepare your food even more fun. We used to enjoy the carne asada at Frida's, but the quality has gone downhill. Perhaps the price of meat sent them looking for cheaper options. The carne asada is so too greasy it seeps through the tortillas and the tortillas fall apart. I hope they are able to bring back quality meat. read more

Great place for tacos and burritos. Service is generally good. It was not the case last week. I ordered some adobada fries and a mulita. A new guy was helping me out this time, he was on the trompo cuttingthe meat. Shorter guy, head seemed to be all over the place and not focused, like the OG taquero (expected, and that's ok). After he was done piling the cheese, meat, and crema on the fries he hands me the tray. I asked him to put on some salsa, cilantro and guacamole on it - like they always do. With frustration in his voice he said "go to the salsa bar" I asked him to do it again and again he directed me to the salsa bar in a very dismissive way. For a third time I asked him to add cilantro and onions because they always do when I visit (about 2 times per month. Which he did. But the leva thought it would be funny to give me 2 giant piles of cilantro, overwhelming the entire adobada fries with it. Chale. I had already pulled out some cash to tip him. Had to skip that part & put it back in my pocket after the cilantro and salsa fiasco. On another note, before he started putting my meal together I had asked him to add frijoles to the fries and he said no, they dont do that. The og taquero heard him and told him to add them, which he did. Unfortunately, he was so distracted by juggling the fries in the oil, that he forgot about the meat which he had put on the plancha - turned out dry as cardboard.
