It's clean here, cold on a rainy day but I know perfect in the summer. Didn't know this was Valerie's, it just says taco shop on the outside. We came in while charging next door and it happens to be taco Tuesday! It's only two dollars a taco and they are delicious. My favorite was the other bottle kind of taste like chorizo. A solid offering for Valerie's Taco Shop. I came in for a small, quick bite before my drive back to LA. I ordered two crunchy tacos, (1 chicken, 1 beef). Both tacos were tasty and the shells didn't break on first bite. I also liked how the tacos were not overloaded with lettuce or cheese. The beef seemed to have a little bit more flavor than the chicken, but both were good. The salsa bar has 6 or so varieties and the self-served soda fountain is convenient. My husband and I were on the hunt for some tacos while in Oceanside, and boy, are we glad we stumbled upon Valerie's Taco Shop. This place looks humble from the outside, but inside, it's a pretty inviting, open space, adorned with cute little signs and a big screen showcasing a slideshow of pictures of the various items you can order. It's perfect for a quick and casual meal. I've eaten a lot of Mexican food, but I can confidently say that this place is above average. Everything was flavorful, from the rice and beans to the enchilada and hard shell taco. They even let us swap our cheese enchilada for a chicken one, and let me tell you, that was a decision I do not regret. I'm already looking forward to our next visit!! The food is OK. My favorite thing to get is the shredded beef tostada. Typically it's always a bean and cheese burrito everywhere else I go. However, my biggest complaint is they use pre-shredded cheese so once you get home all the cheese just clumps together. You increased all your prices and it is not reflected in the quality of the food. Unfortunately, I think this may be one of our last visits, which is a bummer because you guys are so close to my house. Probably end up returning to my OG spot Lola's. I rarely write reviews -- especially negative ones -- but I genuinely hope the owner or management sees this and takes it as constructive feedback. I've given this taco shop two chances, and both times were disappointing. The only reason I even considered returning was because I regularly charge my car in the same parking lot. I'd love to have a go-to spot for tacos while I wait, but this place is just not it -- at least not yet. The atmosphere is awkward and uninviting. There's no music, no energy. Just silence and a TV with no vibe. A basic speaker or switching a TV to a music channel could go a long way. Right now, it feels like walking into an abandoned business. The food needs serious improvement. I paid almost $20 for two of the worst tacos I've ever had. The carne asada tasted like bland ground beef. No flavor, no seasoning -- just bad. Tortillas were okay, but the guacamole tasted old. There's so much room for improvement here. Carne asada is supposed to be the star -- treat it like one. Service was just as lifeless. The cashier was polite, but she seemed bored out of her mind, sitting in the corner on her phone. I've walked by this place many times while charging my car and often thought about going in, but it always looked empty -- like it was closed. You can't draw in customers if there's no energy, no presence, and no sign of life. Again, I'm not writing this to bash the business. I want this place to do well. It has potential due to its location, but it needs better food, better ambiance, and better engagement. Stopped by just a bit ago, rudest customer service. I went in to simply grab an agua. The cook looked at me multiple times and did not acknowledge me, then the cashier lady comes out the back and hits me with a "Que quieres". How fu$&ing rude. Yummy tacos!! I've been there a couple of times. And each time was really good. I normally get chicken and shrimp tacos. The tacos are very fresh! The service is good, I believe it's family owned. The employees are pretty friendly and helpful. The only hiccup is, there's not a lot of seating for dinning in. We stumbled across this hidden gem on Taco Tuesday. I must say the tacos were amazing and flavorful. I tried the Asada, Pollo, Adobada, but my all time favorite was the Chicharon. My wife tried the Agua de Sandia and that was also amazing! My kids who are picky eaters were in love with the Asada tacos and the Horchata. The service was friendly and fast. I didn't get anything today but my family member got 2 and they said no $3 always, looks like it was the owner "laughing" saying what he was saying. No trip to SD is complete without tacos. Valerie's was close to our Airbnb, so we gave it a try. Initially, I was a bit put off when the worker said the tacos are "normal size," yet cost $5+ each. But, in fact, they are meatier than most. Usually, I need three to be full; here, two would've been enough. I got the Diablo, which had a great kick; carne asada, which had beans on it (but they worked!); and, of course, fried fish. Each one was hot, fresh, and super delicious. We only have a couple more days here, and plenty more restaurants to try. But Valerie's is worth a repeat visit. read more

If I thought about it before I devoured all the yumminess Valerie's served I would've taken pictures. Carne asada burrito 5 rolled tacos carne asada fries and 2 beef tacos. Of course I didn't eat it so myself, I had help but I did taste a little but of all. Only word to describe the taste and quality of all these tasteries is BOMB! I drive from Murrieta to OSide to get a taste of a plate 80's early 90' southeast taco shop and Valerie's did not disappoint. The inside of this restaurant is really pretty and clean. And it's really spacious, which is great since the cool wind blows in. The lady who took my order was welcoming and complimented my makeup. (^: I believe there is a 4% surcharge for card transactions, so the total with tax was $14.04. This is the biggest burrito I've ever eaten or at least in a long time. The tortilla tastes very fresh, which is one of the reasons I chose this place. Plus, the shrimp was super juicy. A little sad I didn't get any salsas in my taco order, but the burrito was a bit too salty anyway. It might just be my sensitivity to sodium though. Even though the menu did not offer a crispy taco with "carne asada", the cook was nice enough to replace the "shredded beef" with "carne asada" just for me.
